Highly encourage all parents to read this review prior to visiting Dr. Mark Raab at Atlantic Coast Dentistry for Children. On Thursday, 9/16/21 I took my 6 year old son to this practice. He was experiencing severe tooth/gum pain along with some minor ear ache. I explained how he wasn't sleeping well and that we needed an X-ray and a treatment plan. The medical staff, Marie, was extremely cold and off-putting. As with any new experience (especially the dentist), my son was very nervous. He expressed anxiety and fear - and wanted me to be with him during the x-Ray. She threatened my son saying "I'll make mom leave and go sit in the waiting room" multiple times before asking me to step out. When I asked to stay with him for the X-ray I was told "No" and asked to wait outside. After not getting an X-Ray, the staff took my minor son back to the exam room where he was examined by Dr. Raab. Less than five minutes later Dr. Raab met me in the waiting room and told me the tooth needed to be extracted. That the alternative would be a root canal but in my sons anxious state, that was not a good option. Dr. Raab extracted a permanent six year molar from his mouth after his staff member Marie refused to allow me to calm my child to obtain a necessary diagnostic test to make an informed medical decision. He did not give me any type of informed consent and just basically guilted me into thinking the extraction was my only option. I should be able to trust medical advice from a doctor and his staff. The experience was nothing but bullying and medical negligence to get me out the door and collect a payment. When I got home with my son and he finally calmed down from the traumatic experience, he informed me that Dr. Raab put his hand over my son's mouth and held him down. Almost to the point where he couldn't breathe. He will be reported to the Board of Medical Examiners; his practice will be reported to the Better Business Bureau; and I've contacted a medical negligence attorney. This place is perfect for kids. I for one hate going to the dentist but my kid looks forward to coming here. They have a small arcade in the front and kids movies and shows while they are treated. The staff is very friendly, professional and the place is super clean. They are very good with kids. Highly recommend it! read more

Got me over my Dental Phobia as a child... When I was a child, I was high anxiety with a dental phobia, and my previous pediatric dentist had wanted to "strap me down" to work on me. So, my parents took me to whom I knew as "Dr. Rob" (didn't know the spelling till later on in life) and it changed my life when it came to dentistry. Now I show no fear as an adult, still with severe anxiety. The cleanings that my children received were adequate and Dr. Raab was fairly friendly toward the children, but there were so many other issues that caused us to switch to a different dental practice. The negative experience began at the front desk where we were met with rude demeanors from a number of different office staff across multiple dates. On a date in which my 5 year old daughter required her first cavity filling, there was no communication from anyone in the office as to what to expect. I was instructed to sit on a bench and she was taken to a back room that was out of my field of view. After a few minutes of her not returning, I asked staff member if I was going to be allowed back to sit with her for the procedure. I was told at that time that office policy did not allow parents to accompany children during the procedure. When I questioned what the procedure entailed, as far an anesthesia, I was again met with a rude, dismissive response. Had I known this information prior to the visit, I would have better prepared my daughter for being alone throughout the procedure. I was very upset by the total experience and, after 2 years of being dissatisfied with the service of this practice, we decided to look elsewhere. read more
