I was referred for PT while pregnant with my third child for some pregnancy related discomfort. I worked with Naomi from about 28 weeks up until delivery and not only was my discomfort relieved but I have never felt more prepared for labor. It ended up being my best childbirth experience and easiest recovery. I continued to see Naomi once postpartum to help rebuild my core and manage diastasis recti/back discomfort. I am so grateful for her expertise, ability to make me feel comfortable, and sense of humor. Great physical therapy, particularly for pelvic floor support. I came to Atlantic Physical Therapy after trying another rehab, and the treatment I received here was remarkably better! The second time I went there I was not impressed. I was there for a year and nothing changed. I didn't feel like they were focused enough on the patient and tailoring the program to what fit their needs or changing the exercises. It seemed like they were to busy being a day care center. I then decided to go to a different PT spot and what do you know after 4 visits and my shoulder was back to 100%. When I tore my ACL, of course I used Yelp as one of my resources to find a physical therapist. I needed PT both pre and post-surgery and initially I was going to try to do it with Novacare at the same location as the Rothman doctor I was seeing in their complex by the stadiums in South Philly . However, they said it would take over a week before I could even get an appointment for an evaluation and time was ticking for me to get my knee in better shape prior to surgery. Atlantic was more flexible and was able to get me in the next day for an eval and my first session. Also, they were much more conveniently located right off of East Passyunk Ave. I had some trouble getting pre-approved for PT through my insurance. Luckily, the receptionist Erica went to bat for me and stayed on my insurance company until I was approved. She's always been great to work with; helpful with making appointments and flexible in how and when I pay my co-pays. (Since you're going so often, PT co-pays add up!) The office is basically brand new; only about 2 years old. It's nice, well lit and modern inside. It's important for a PT office to be nice because you end up spending a lot of time there. From the beginning I worked with Michelle as well as with one of her students, Jackie. They are both attentive and professional; focused on your goals and guiding you through structured exercises to reach them. What I didn't expect about PT is how social it can be at times. Ultimately you end up spending up to an hour with the therapist multiple days a week. And sometimes you end up running into the same people who are also receiving therapy over and over. You end up becoming friendly with some people and it actually makes for a really nice atmosphere. But, in the end, I think this happens because Michelle is such a nice person. At the same time she is focused on your goals she is also calm, pleasant and easy to approach and ask questions. When Michelle was away for vacation, another therapist Dave filled in and he was equally professional. He was really good at getting your techniques down perfectly to maximize the benefit you got for your exercises. Overall, highly recommended. read more

Dr. Michelle Friedman is fabulous. I came with urinary frequency and issues of pain with intercourse. After a short treatment period - maybe two months - the urinary frequency has significantly improved (a decade-long complaint that even urologists were not able to help me with) and I am able to have pain-free intercourse. Most importantly, Dr. Michelle took every concern I had seriously. I felt cared for, respected, taken seriously, and heard, all with a wonderful warmth and sense of humor. It was always fun to go there and I will miss the biweekly visits! Dr. Michelle Friedman and her staff provided exceptional care, guidance, and education in helping me recover from lower back and neck pain. I previously went to a multi-office (chain) PT practice in center city that actually worsened my pain due to their inability to correctly assess my condition and give proper treatment. Liz and Michelle are great therapists and Erica at the front desk took care of all the scheduling and insurance paperwork! I worked with Liz for 8 weeks to recover from a hamstring injury and I'm almost back to normal now. Liz was very patient with me and showed me how to do strengthening and stretching exercises properly. I started feeling better after the first session and continued to improve every week. I also took my 87-year old father in just now for an evaluation and he worked with Michelle and greatly enjoyed the session. I had a very good experience at APT. I was in a car accident in November and had neck and upper back pain. I was in PT for about 3.5 months, sometimes going as many as three times a week. I worked with both Michelle and Liz, and felt that I received a lot of support from them. They also were very personable; I actually looked forward to going to PT to chat with them. I feel 100% myself again and am able to do everything I was able to before the accident. So here's the thing. I injured my hip 2 years ago, and it's limited my level of activity ever since. Running, Mountain Biking, playing football were all part of my usual repertoire, but since my injury, I wasn't able to do those activities without pain and without a fear in the back of my mind that I would worsen my injury. I was in an accident in July and released from the rehab hospital in October. I wanted to find a therapist that was close by so I could eventually walk there because I can't drive. Atlantic picked me up with Lyft, and I was able to ride up the staircase to the therapy room. It's bright, clean and pleasant, and administrator GeorgeAnn is very nice. Michele and her PTs worked well with me to improve my condition quickly. My doctor was surprised at how much progress I made in one month, and it looks like I have avoided ACL and PCL surgery. Next month if my progress continues, he'll see if I can avoid getting meniscus surgery too. He said that the small places with personal service are the best, and now I can see why. Michelle and Liz are great, they really helped me rehab my ankle when an old injury started acting up. They give each patient a lot of individual attention, which you don't often get at larger physical therapy offices. I've been seeing Liz for a while for pelvic issues after having my son. She was patient, always asked how I felt and modified our stretching and exercises to tackle the issues that flared up as I recovered. I can happily report that I am back in alignment and I can do many workouts that I wasn't able to do without pain after my baby. I can't say enough GREAT things about my experience working with Dr. Michelle Friedman at APT. I was experience tremendous pain in my lower back that was exacerbated whenever I walked. I can't say enough about the incredible care i have received at APT. I am recovering from a complicated and painful Achilles tendon full rupture. For 4 months I have seen Liz two times a week and she has demonstrated how truly talented she is. I am a very nervous patient and I am used to a really active lifestyle so 5 mos on crutches was not ideal. I had been to the other Atlantic location last summer (which was great(, but chose the South Philly location when I needed some booster sessions for my back because of their convenient location. Michelle and her attentive staff have been amazing. They make me feel comfortable, and it feels like they are truly listening to me when I describe what is going on with my pain. I always look forward to going to PT, and I will be sad when I no longer need to go! When I do stop, I will have a lot of good exercises to continue at home to make sure the pain stays away. I came to Dr. Michelle for a neck sprain after a car accident and chronic plantar fascitiis in my foot. My first impression of the office was great. Its clean and modern. Street parking was easy to find. The administrative staff was friendly and helpful figuring out all of my insurance coverage. But best of all, was Dr. Michelle. She did a full exam the first day and began treatment. I would say I felt at least 50% better after I left that day. In a few sessions, my pain was gone! I couldn't believe it because I've been struggling with the foot problem for a while now. I would recommend Atlantic Physical Therapy to anyone with pain. Injury: Torn left ACL and meniscus I went to several other places prior to finally finding Atlantic Physical Therapy and wow, I am so grateful. I didn't want a therapist who churned out patients but someone who I could make a connection with and make going to PT the highlight of my day. I also wanted to return to playing sports (hockey, softball, etc.) at a highly competitive level and Michelle greatly helped me get back to where I was before the injury. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient and yet pushed me to get better every day. I highly recommend APT. It is close to the Broad Street line (Tasker Stop) and plenty of bus routes as well. Her hours are flexible which greatly helped as well. When I first starting going, I was two months out from surgery with most movement restrictions from the doctor and was somewhat depressed from the ordeal. Because of my many Orthopedic problems and surgeries in the past, I've been to many therapy places over the last 17 years. I usually just stopped going because I found no improvements. I recently had a knee replacement and as a result of falling a few weeks later, I had to have a right shoulder rotator cuff repair, which had major tearing. Because of location, I decided to go to Atlantic Physical Therapy. The progress with my knee was incredible. Range of motion increased wonderfully. Now I go for my knee, which is almost 100%, along with my shoulder. The shoulder has progressed beyond expectation. I just returned from a follow up visit with my shoulder surgeon who was amazed at the progress and has written a new prescription for advanced strengthening for my shoulder. The staff at APT are great and caring therapist. They know each patient immediately as they come in. This is the first place I've ever been to that I would recommend to anyone needing therapy. read more

The best physical therapist and therapy in south philadelphia. Michelle is wonderful! I came in there barely able to walk and in terrible shape and I was so worried I would not be able to walk again. Michelle said she would have me walking in 2 weeks she wasn't kidding. I'm 2 weeks in the pain is almost gone the numbness and the stiffness is gone amazing.
