Their restaurant sucked, I had fish chowder with almost no fish in it, my niece ordered fish and chips, the fish was so old we could smell that it was bad when it arrived at the table. My tea biscuit was old as well. So disappointing. Order fresh fish for your customers, for god sake. read more

We had a nice one night stay. The personnel were very friendly and very helpful. The room was nice. The fitness room is limited . It has several treadmills but a stationary bicycle or two and a rowing machine (Concept 2). I only got a cup of coffee at the hotel restaurant m. The restaurant staff was helpful. The hall carpet seemed a bit beat up but that didn't bother me. We liked the place. read more

We booked the hotel a long time ago. Travelling as a team for a big competition. 22 rooms. As it was our championship competition, we needed rooms that were quiet and where athletes could relax in between events. Unfortunately the hotel decided to do construction all day long. The noise in our room was 80 dB's measured on our phone microphones. We were not notified of the construction while booking. We were not notified of the construction when checking in. We were told "too bad there is nothing they could do" and we had to endure this noise for hours. read more

Best hotel stay we've had. Dog friendly! No extra charge. Our king size room was so spacious and comfortable. We loved staying here! The staff were very nice and helpful. Fantastic location as it's like 15 minutes away from downtown. Right across from the commons where you can play with your dog or often during the day, something is going on there (yoga, games, etc). Definitely try cafe taiyaki for dessert... 15min walk but sooooo gooooood. read more

We just spent two nights at the Atlantica Hotel while on vacation in Nova Scotia. Can't help to say that we were disappointed. When we checked in to our room my wife said it smelled musty like old socks (she has super acute sense of smell). There were a couple of hairs on the floor of the bathroom and the bottom of the bathroom door was peeling. All it all the room felt a bit dingy. The carpet in the hallway on our floor was loose and wrinkled up causing a tripping hazard and there was a spot where it looked like someone spilled some bleach. The breakfast was nothing to rave about very mediocre. The staff were the highlight. Very pleasant and professional. When I asked to have housekeeping come and mop the bathroom floor to rid it of the hairs the front desk clerk was clearly embarrassed and had the matter rectified by the time we got back to our room. I guess we selected the hotel based on price. That being said we got what we paid for. read more

Really, it's more like 2.5 stars and maybe a borderline 3 star. We stayed here for free on points as this was one of the few hotels that was left in my points range. After a long several days of traveling and camping around Cape Breton, this was our "luxury" night before heading back home. Overall, a nice hotel with helpful staff. I'd be willing to stay here again if needed, but would rather stay elsewhere. Clean rooms and sheets, but a slightly older and less "kept up" appearance to the hotel makes it a bit grittier than the Marriott down the road (The room seemed a bit musty when we arrived). However, our guest room seemed quieter here than the latter place. The best features of this hotel? (1) It's iconic landmark feature as others have pointed out - I can always orient myself correctly to find my way back! (2) The great location to coffees, restaurants and groceries on Quinpool and just below the Citadel, and (3) Super convenient location to the Commons, the Public Gardens and the surrounding cute west Halifax area. Staying here has the above advantanges, but if you prefer something more posh, try the Westin or the Marriott instead. It just depends on what you're used to in a hotel. It'll do in a pinch and it served out purposes for the one night. ***** Forgot to mention that they have free *wired* internet for guests with an included cable in the room. No free WiFi, tho. And parking is about $15 CDN/night. It's below the hotel and cramped...also seems like the guy who designed the through traffic into the parking garage was British or something with driving on the left hand side of things down below. ;-) read more

I don't know where they get the idea that this is a 4 star hotel.. Maybe a long long time ago but definitely not anymore. One can clearly see that the owners/management have long since given up on maintaining and/or improving the property and are just doing the bare minimum to keep the place afloat. Everything is old and dated in the hotel. The elevators are super slow, the amenities are fraying at the seams and it just seems like it has seem better days. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating though which made up for a lot. read more

This is a great Hotel to stay at if you're looking for a more complete picture of Halifax. Most of the Hotels in the city are located downtown, but Atlantica is in the West end and offers easy access to the restaurants on Quinpool Road and the beautiful Halifax Common. The hotel itself is nice enough. It was formerly a Holiday Inn, so if you've spent any time in one of these chains you know what to expect from the rooms. They are comfy, clean and some have a great view of the Common, but it's not going to blow your mind. If you're looking to see a different and often ignored side of Halifax as a tourist, definitely spend a few nights in the Hotel Atlantica and take it from there. read more

What a delight! I have been visiting the Atlantica since I could walk and there is nothing I love more than their lunch buffet at the '360' windows over looking the commons. However, tonight was a bit different and we decided to go to dinner and enjoy a nice dinner. I ordered he roasted chicken and it was so flavourful. The veggies were delightful, the garlic mashed was warm without too much garlic, and the meal as a whole was delicious. My partner got the salmon and he enjoyed it thoroughly. The rice was great and the veggies were grilled nicely. For dessert, we enjoyed sorbet, pineapple, raspberry and pear with English cream and garnish. It was perfectly sour paired with enough sweet to not have one or the other overpower. The price range was not at all bad for what we enjoyed (I promise there was more food than how it was presented!) Our server Terri was amazing, she was so polite and very attentive. We never had to wait long and we were never without drinks. One of my favourite experiences with the serving staff. The restaurant was clean with delicate decorations on the table. Absolutely worth 5 stars. Everything was professional from booking the reservation to the end of our delicious meal. Can't wait to go back. read more

When we arrived we purchased parking for $20 and expected to be able to park underground on the premises. After going out for about an hour, we returned to a full parking garage and were told to go to the "overflow" parking down the street about 1km at a Hospital. They got guests to go to the overflow parking, but people who weren't staying at the hotel and were visiting for an event got preferential parking. When we went up to our room, there were beer and radler cans littering the hallway, and the carpets were all bunched up and looked unkempt. During the night we called several times to complain about people making noise, but the security didn't resolve the issue. They stayed up partying, telling, laughing until well over 5:30am. When I asked for a refund because of the noise I was told to call priceline, but after speaking with priceline they said the refund is up to the hotel and that they refused to offer one despite me not being able to sleep in my room. Couple this with the terrible beds and the fact that I had to walk, with my luggage down a busy street (with a sore back from their terrible beds) to a hospital where my car was parked on the 3rd floor after getting no sleep, and it's a recipe for disaster. Stay away from this poorly run dump, and their low integrity staff at all costs. Unless you enjoy not sleeping, having your parking spot given away and being told politely to go &@#( yourself for expecting a refund when the hotel doesn't meet their end of the bargain. I wanted a quiet place to sleep, they didn't provide it, they don't care either. Not to mention the rooms paint is peeling, the tub was dirty, and the hallways were disgusting. For my "Getaway", the only thing I wanted to "Getaway" from was this disaster of a poorly managed hotel and their terrible staff. I'm sure at one point in time this may have been a lovely place to stay, I can certainly attest to the fact it no longer is. read more

It's pretty dirty. I dropped my mother&sister in law off and went to the room with them, stains were on the pillow and bed set, dust was everywhere and the sheets had hair and wrinkles all over them. Atlantica Hotel offers a nice Halifax stay, and may be just a little less of an obvious spot to book your accommodations. Just a pinch farther from the downtown vicinity, folks may be quick on the Delta, Westin or Radisson train in hopes of central locale. However, Atlantica is in a great spot of its own-- just minutes away from all that jazz. Situated along the lovely Quinpool area, visitors can enjoy the lovely Halifax Commons, some of the city's best restaurants (Eg- Jane's, Mezza, Heartwood), and the overall sweet vibe of the area. What I'm saying is that you can have your cake and eat it too. Reasonable rates, adequate interiors and, perhaps, more authentic locale of Halifax. North, South and downtown areas are all a quick cab ride away-- Atlantica peaks for its high caliber city spot. read more

We went into the lounge at the Atlantica to listen to a friend play in his band (duo?) We sat at the bar, and ordered a drink - both of us freshly off work, and a little hungry, decided to order an appetizer as well. The bar menu was fairly small, but had some great options. We couldn't decide between their nachos or the chicken and waffles dish. We decided to go with the nachos. After ordering we checked-in on Yelp and were offered a great deal - buy one get one appetizers (with beverage purchase) Awesome! We showed this to our (super friendly, personable, server/Bartender Amanda) and she quickly rang through our other option without even double checking with us! Smart lady! These were the absolutely best restaurant bar-food dishes I've ever had. The chicken and waffle dish comes with 'bacon gravy' - seriously BACON! GRAVY! The chicken wings themselves were very well done, not burnt, but super crispy. The nachos were small, not big enough to share if you're hungry, but very, very good - I really liked their feta sour cream. The presentation was great as well! Overall with the entertainment, the flowing bar conversation, the food and the atmosphere, we'll be back! read more

Nice rebranding of this classic Halifax hotel. This is purely commentary on the F&B department which I've had for several catered events as well as dining in for Holiday brunches / having a drink in the lounge. Staff friendly, decor cozy- but understand they're doing design renos in the new year- so should be interesting. Important to note: this is one of the only places really on Quinpool to go for a classy drink / go at all without having to order food (Quinpool Rd. weird zoning laws). read more

Another stay at the Atlantica and while I will still wave a four star flag, I must advise... When possible, splurge. Staying only but a night, I opted for the $109 option, and was disappointed with what I got. A room on the second floor with 1/2 the window space, right across from a banquet hall, with no robe. Will I do that again? Nope. I obviously lead a baller life (smirk). From here on in, it's Halifax, $149 Executive King suites WITH a robe. That's champagne in my books! read more

Our room smells like a smelly gym bag. The bathroom was dirty upon check-in and we asked for it to be cleaned while we went out. Some of it was cleaned. At least they swept up the hair off the floor. It's an old property in need of huge Reno. The staff are friendly but because of the deferred maintenance I would suggest you look at other properties. The carpet in the hallways need stretching, or replacement. Chipped paint and dirty grout are just some little items they really should address. More outlets are needed, there is one available under the desk and one on the desk and one on far wall near window but nothing near bed. read more

After having stayed at some of the best hotels in the world, I'm probably a little spoiled. As the other reviewers have said, for it's class and price, the Atlantica is relatively clean and spacious, but there is nothing special about it (except perhaps the location close to Quinpool Road). The rooms seem dark, worn, and a little outdated but it could be a lot worse. Another frustrating thing: the parking garage and driveway is not well-organized such that it is frequently blocked. For example, one evening when returning home, we waited 10-15 minutes for other guests to move their cars before we were able to enter the garage. Argh. I would probably not choose to stay in this hotel again unless I was looking for a budget hotel. C'mon -- as Dan C's photo confirms-- no self-respecting classy hotel would advertise "Quality Adult Programming" to its guests. read more

In September 2011 my husband and I got married at the Atlantica. I have to say - we were impressed! The staff were kind and attentive; our room was lovely (and newly upgraded), and well stocked with the necessities; and all our guests enjoyed their stay. The renovations they've done in the main ballroom really update the venue and we loved the seating area and gentleman playing the piano in the lobby on Saturday evening. But the food - oh.my.god. THE FOOD! It was FANTASTIC. Seriously, the wedding food was some of the best presented, best tasting, best variety of food I have ever experienced at a wedding. We still have guests that rave about the food! Overall, a great experience with the Atlantica and we will definitely return. read more

I've been staying at the Atlantica Hotel for several years now, all the way back to before the Atlantica bought out the original Holiday Inn. The leisure centre is small and often crowded with poorly behaved children and teenagers. I've had men sexually proposition me and the front desk do nothing when contacted about it. The common areas are poorly cared for with floor boards popping out in the sauna and foamy water in the hot tub. The rooms are cramped and the beds are not comfortable. The view is always excellent, overlooking the commons or the busy central area. The rooms are always very clean but the bathrooms are in need of work. There was actually some mold in between the tiles in several rooms. There is always complimentary Higgins & Burke tea, some coffee, and Aveda samples available in the rooms along with an independent heater/air conditioner so that the room can be at the temperature you prefer. read more

What a difference a few floors make. Originally, I booked an economy room at the Atlantica because I figured, what the heck, it's just a place to crash while attending a conference in Halifax. When we got there, I was disappointed - while the room was clean, the bed was comfy, and there were Aveda products in the bathroom, everything seemed a little worn around the edges. There was a view of a vacant lot from the window, plus the hotel was a little farther from downtown than I anticipated. Don't even get me started on the hotel pool area, with its slippery deck and tiny, tired-looking change rooms, sauna and hot tub. But whatever, I told myself ... this is what you get for a bargain price sometimes, resigning myself to a two-star mistake. On the second night of our stay, Saturday, we started noticing a lot of noise in the hallway. Chicks cackling loudly. Guys stomping up and down. Doors slamming and marathon ice machine sessions. OK, fine, probably just people having a pre-party before going out. Halifax is a party town! So we went out for dinner. We came back. The hallway party still seems to be going on, ice machine and all. The hotel security guard has his hands full with trying to keep the peace, but it was looking like a noisy night. So we headed down to the front desk to see if we could switch to a room in a less lively hallway, even just for the night. Well, the front desk staff apologized for the craziness - a real Down East wedding going on, apparently - then immediately switched us up, and how! Executive room. No extra charge. Now we're talking: 14th floor spiffiness with all the little perks. Bathrobes. Mini fridge. View of the skyline. Even breakfast buffet privileges. So the lesson is, don't be a cheap idiot like me. If you pay a little extra here, you get a much nicer room, and it's still a better value than most hotels in Halifax.The Atlantica is a farther walk from downtown and the waterfront, but as many have mentioned, it's easy to find because it's such a landmark. This time, the wonderful staff saved me from myself, but next time I travel to Halifax, it'll be Executive style, all the way. read more

Although the Atlantica is not a waterfront hotel, I envy it's location looking over the commons. The view from inside many of the room and the downstairs bar is to die for, and it's part of what I love about staying at the Atlantica. Since the renovations, this place really has improved in it's overall look and feel, and the staff do a good job on keeping things running smoothly. The parking garage is a tight (and limited squeeze) but I guess that's typical of underground parking garages. Overall, I like staying here, and it's a top choice in Halifax. read more

This is a local business that gets it. I go to Atlantica at least once a month for meetings and/or other events. To be blunt they are the best at what they do. Their service is great and the waiter at the Bistro bar does remember your name! :) The food is excellent also. The Chef works with you to arrange anything you might need as far as food goes for any meeting or gathering and also is very aware of food allergies. No request is too big or small for this group. They go the distance to make things happen. My kind of folks to deal with! The meeting planning folks are also great and will accommodate any request or budget you have. Oh if you are fan of jazz or other late night music entertainment they have a great selection of local musicians that play at their wine bar most weekends - relaxing! So if you haven't had a chance to check this place out lately or need a place to host a meeting give them a try. I am sure you will be back! read more

The Hotel Atlantica (nee Holiday Inn) has been in my life a long time. When I was little my parents used to take me to see the WWF when it came to town and we would stay in this location, as would the wrestlers. Meeting "The Macho Man" Randy Savage was probably the highlight of my young life at one point and it all took place in the front lobby! As time has gone on I have recommended this hotel to most friends who are popping into the city from out of town. The rooms are spacious, well prepared and well priced and the staff are polite and happy to help. If you're lucky enough to get a room with a view overlooking the Common then you are in for a real treat. It's one of the nicest views in the city. The fact that Hotel Atlantica is centrally located is a nice feature. 15 minutes from downtown, 15 minutes from The Shopping Centre, 10 minutes from the Hydrostone. It's a great location to get a feel for everything Halifax can offer. If you're planning a trip to our fair city, this would be a great hotel to stay in. read more

Hotel Atlantica, to some of us know as The Holiday Inn, has been on Quinpool Rd for years. It is very centrally located for people, close enough to walk to downtown, but close enough to cruise up Quinpool into the west-end as well. I sort of look at this place for the family budget. The rooms are clean and spacious. You can get a break with your CAA membership, every bit counts these days. I have attended functions here and the staff were great. read more

Having only stayed at the Atlantica a few times over the last four years. And being it is the only hotel I have ever stayed at while in Halifax. I really have nothing to compare it with in the area. But I can say it is a very nice hotel with a great location. I can make the walk to the ferry terminal in about 20min. And if you want to go see a mosehead game during your stay it is about a 10-15min walk to the hockey rink. Needless to say I always found plenty to do while staying at this hotel. The rooms are pretty standard for what your paying.. There is free plug in internet available in all the rooms. I believe there is a wifi hot spot in the lobby for those that need that. Besides that I really have nothing to share with you that makes this Hotel a true stand out. If you want to stay in Halifax give it a shot. read more

The basics first - The staff and service was fantastic. The room was very clean and nice, especially for the price. The food the restaurant was delicious. All the standard amenities. We were there to care for a seriously ill relative in the nearby hospital. The hotel staff was incredibly accommodating and kind during our stay. They took wonderful care of my family and especially my elderly father. There was a real spirit of hospitality there. It made a difficult time a little bit easier for all of us. Suggestion - Cluster people on the hospital rate on certain floors to avoid having them next to cheer teams and such. A little extra peace and quiet is a big deal when dealing with illness in the family at a level people are flying in. It would be easy to do. That said, when notified, the staff did well keeping the noise down. read more

So, my wife and I had to stay here in a pinch while we were having some work done in our apartment. We had two kids with us, we were very tired, and we wanted a peaceful night's sleep. If you've ever stayed in a single hotel room with two children who go to bed at 8pm you'll understand why we coughed up the extra loot for the suite. It was certainly pricier (at $270)... but we desperately needed the rest and felt that was worth the cost. We happened to have ventured in on the same weekend as the HFX Pop Explosion and the place was B-U-S-Y with musicians, festival drivers, punters, and media types.... but despite all this hoopla the staff at Atlantica were cool and collected and still gave us service that felt personal and attentive. Check in was a bit frantic because of all the crowds, but out desk clerk was funny and friendly. We required a crib and extra bedding and it was brought to our room promptly. The room was clean and well appointed and we had a great view of the South End. The suite was actually two rooms, one with a massive, comfy, king size and the other with just a pull-out couch and dining area by the window. Everything was very sleek and modern. The next morning we had the breakfast buffet at Seasons (very reasonably priced), and dined by the window watching Sunday morning traffic on Quinpool. As a long time resident in Halifax, whenever we have folks come to visit we usually point them downtown to either the Delta or the Marriott - no more! Atlantica was great: fantastic staff, clean rooms, and close enough to dowtown for tourists. Definitely on our list of recommendations from now on! read more

I stayed at the Atlantica for two days last week. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating! The rooms were alright. They're dated but clean. The bed was pretty comfortable and there was limited street noise (however, I also wear ear plugs haha). There is a pool, sauna and gym. I checked it out but didn't use any of them. I was too tired when k arrived and too busy the next two days. One thing to note is that the hotel IS located at a busy intersection. It is also about a 25 minute walk to downtown. It's a beautiful walk, but if you're looking to be on the waterfront, this hotel is not located there. There is an amazing restaurant within the hotel and some interesting restaurants down the street (Quinpool). There is also a mini mall down the road. A beautiful park is across the street and the Citadel is also close by. (And the CBC - Halifax being the home to "This hour has 22 mins" - this I didn't know. The hotel was also quite affordable and a cheap can ride to downtown for dinner (around $8). I'd recommend for sure. The best part of this hotel is the staff. They were all wonderful! Not sure if they still accept CAA/AMA, but I didn't hear anything about it until after my stay and wasn't asked- so make sure and inquire! read more

Rude! We paid for their parking garage basement for 10 nights. One night We come home late from work with our big pick up dodge ram. Being its late and our 6th night here, there wont be much parking left for our dodge. So we parked it up front along the side and would hand over our keys to the man up front. They would then ticket our keys and we would pick up our keys the next morning. The man then tells us if theres no parking down stairs then park it down the street. There are other trucks along the side. Wtf we are paying daily for your parking and you tell us to park it down the street? We are staying here 10 nights x 2 and this is the service we get. read more

The hotel was okay not the best but the front desk ladies were very nice. Our truck did not fit in the underground parking but fortunately we got to the hotel early so we got one of the 6 oversized parking spots but other than that our stay wasn't great. The power was out for 4 hours and it got very hot... the maid service came around 3 times before checkout time starting at 7am waking us up as well as at 8am and then again at 9am, definitely not impressed! Only other good thing about the hotel is that the restaurant is fairly affordable and the food was pretty good! read more

If all you are looking for is a cleanish place to stay, this place will fit the bill. If you are looking for any amenities at all, don't stay here. The concierges are not helpful for anything other that hailing cabs or carrying luggage - they sent us to the wrong place twice, resulting in long walks both times. They don't seem to know the city very well. The restaurant is barely tolerable, and you can do a lot better downtown for the same money. We had to ask every day for towels, and we never received clean water glasses. Tissues ran out (there was only 1 in the box) and the in-room coffee is horrible, although that is not uncommon for all hotels. If room service screws up, don't expect a quick resolution. Other things point to this not being a 4 star hotel. The black out curtains were torn with holes in them and their pull wands broken off. The bathroom tub spout was well detached from the tub. There seems to be a very limited staff as everything goes through the front desk. The location is not ideal either, unless you like riding the bus. We had our little ones with us so it worked okay for us to use the bus to get around, but there is *nothing* near the hotel - the neighborhood is a bit depressed. All in all, we made the best of our experience, but I wouldn't stay here again. read more

Halifax is beautiful but this hotel is definitely NOT. The front desk personnel were pleasant, but the rooms were unacceptable. Stayed at this hotel unfortunately for a week and didn't sleep properly the entire time. Beds are made with a cotton ball top (extremely soft), and the tubs, sinks, shower curtains, drapes, doors, pretty much everything was run down. Cleaning staff never cleaned our room properly. Didn't replace towels or just never game us enough towels. There was always a vacuum visible in the hallway but never used. Air conditioning in the rooms didn't work. Please seek other hotels in Halifax. Beautiful city but unfortunately this hotel needs updating. read more
