I have been staying at Hiltons for almost 20 years and have status with Hilton. The reason I say this is to show that I have experience with Hilton, and this might be the worst Hilton I have experienced in many years. The staff seemed uncaring about everything. For example, I told a front desk staff member that the shower tub was not draining, and the person said, "Okay". Then we stared at each other for several uncomfortable seconds until I said, "Can someone fix it?" Her response was "okay" again. More uncomfortable staring and I said, "Would you like my room number?" Her response was, "That would be great". I also had another interaction with the desk people and same thing happened. Also, when you walk in and out of a Hilton, there is nearly always some acknowledgement and greeting, but this never happened in my 3 days of coming and going at this Hilton. I am not normally a picky person, but this level of staff indifference (in terms of problems in the room and greetings) is not what I expect to experience at a Hilton that I am paying over $450 a night. A couple other things with noting about this Hilton: Both headboards of the beds were disgusting and clearly needed to be replaced (see pictures). The bathroom has some short curly hair (you know what hair I'm talking about) in the corners of the bathroom. My key stopped working (which is totally normal) and went to the front desk and ask them to reprogram it. They did, BUT they never asked for confirmation of who I was!!! I could have been anyone, which is super scary if I was not a 300lb and 6' 5" man. For for my wife or kids, being on the receiving end of an unwanted guest who scammed a key card would be 100% unacceptable and unsafe. Lastly the "secure" car garage that you pay $25 a night for is not secure. They say you need your need your room key to open up the door but you don't. The lock on the door is broken so anyone can walk in and out. I did mention to the front desk and they said they were "aware". For these reasons, I will not be staying at this Hilton again. read more

We planned a trip to Halifax and were absolutely not predicting we would be arriving around the same time as hurricane Dorian. I believe this was a deciding factor in the negative aspect of our experience, however there were things that still could have been improved. When we arrived, the lobby was packed with people trying to get reservations. It was disorganized and the desk staff seemed completely frazzled. Once we got to the front, we told them we had already checked in online on the Hilton app and had picked and reserved our room. We were told that they had no record of this and furthermore couldn't give us that room which was our first big frustration. Once to the room, we immediately noticed some things that we didn't particularly like including a very moldy shower, and furniture that was chipped, scuffed, and looked like it needed to be replaced. We hoped for the best, and gave it a try anyway. In the morning our backs were so sore, we knew we needed to make a change. We called down to the front desk and they told us there was nothing they could do to help us. After lunch we went back in person, and they sent housekeeping up with some extra blankets (??) to make the bed better? They said if that didn't help there was nothing else they could do. We gave it a try and it did nothing. In the morning we packed up and told them we would not be able to sleep there another night, and needed to check out and go elsewhere. The front desk guy didn't ask any questions, didn't make any effort to understand or help, and just printed out our statement and that was it. Definitely not the Hilton brand experience we were prepared for, and we absolutely would not return here in the future if we return to Halifax. read more

This is a very good hotel in a good location in downtown Halifax. We were able to walk to the harbourfront in a matter of minutes and the Citadel was just up the street. The conference center and hockey stadium were also just a couple of blocks away. There were several dining options within an easy walk. The staff were efficient, helpful and approachable. We were checked in and out rather quickly and we were able to get local information without difficulty. Our room was spacious and modern. The bed was comfortable and the environs were fairly quiet facilitating good sleep. The bathroom was sufficiently roomy to allow maneuverability. The WiFi was free and worked well during our stay. The large screen TV was more than adequate and their service provided a decent array of programming. The morning breakfast was up to Hampton standards, which was to say that it was reasonably good. There were hot food choices along with the typical variety of yogurts, fruit, breads, cereals and juices. The breakfast area offered more seating than the average Hampton and the modern feel of the lobby area created a pleasant atmosphere in which to enjoy a meal. The room rate was certainly fair. Our average rate was $179 CAD. I thought this was a decent value considering the quality of the product. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel if you need a place to stay in downtown Halifax. The location is great and the facilities are quite nice. The morning breakfast works well enough and the room rates are decent. The staff are helpful and efficient. For what you pay, it's pretty good. read more

My husband and I had a good stay at the Hampton Inn in Halifax recently. The rooms were modern and clean and the breakfast buffet was good. The location is up the hill near the Citadel which is pretty close to the waterfront, Spring Garden Road and downtown. The rooms were nice, nothing extraordinary, but no complaints from me. The breakfast buffet was good. The don't have a waffle maker, but they do serve pre-made waffles. They had regular waffles (similar to Eggo Waffles) and also Belgian waffles. Both were good. They had whipped cream, sweetened mixed berries and syrup for the waffles. They had eggs which were sometimes scrambled and sometimes in omelette form. When scrambled they were seasoned and had bits of green and red peppers in them, so tastier than plain scrambled eggs. Omelettes were plain or with cheddar cheese. They also had sausage, one day in regular form (you know, like a cylinder) and one day in the flat round form (like in Sausage McMuffins). They had oatmeal. The only toppings though were brown sugar, raisins and shredded coconut. They also had yogurt and a variety of cereals. Other than the free breakfast buffet, there is no restaurant in the hotel, but you are so close to restaurants so it's not a big deal. Staff were friendly, especially Donna the housekeeper. When I stay in hotels, I usually write a little thank you note on the notepad and leave my tip on top. Most housekeeping staff just take the tip and remove the note, but Donna wrote me a sweet note back thanking me for the tip. How nice is that? :) I would stay here again. read more

We arrived on Sat Aug 18, for a late check in. We were the only ones checking in at that time. We were given a room on upper floor facing the back of the property. Breakfast was included in the dining area from 6-10am, I noticed that housekeeping did a poor job of cleaning our room. Hairs from prior guest on washroom floor and in tub. The carpet had bits of thread and garment tag holders that someone pulled off garments purchased. The next day after a day out on the town were returned around 5pm and our room wasn't cleaned/made up. We called front desk and they said someone would come by soon.We also reported that the coffee machine in the room did not function. The second day when we returned to the room after a long day out the room wasn't clean/made up. I decided to go down and speak to the manger. I asked a worker at the front desk to speak to the manger. She advised she was the manger but didn't say what her name was. She give poor excuse that she had left a message for housekeeping and not gotten a reply as to why the room was not cleaned for 2 days. It didn't make sense that "the so called manger" could not get answers from housekeeping as to why the room wasn't cleaned. I implored that it was unacceptable that this is happening and she had no answers to give me. After the third day we noticed that the bed linens were not changed, so we called front desk and again the same.. oh someone will be up to change the sheets. Observations: Housekeeping seems to be above the manger's grasp. The so called manger doesn't seem to know what's going on. She was very unprofessional in the handling of the matter. She's lazy and couldn't be bothered with the inconvenience caused to the guest. The property is located in the downtown area, close walking distance to the harbour front/board walk and other sites. Breakfast was the standard, eggs, bacon, mini hot cakes, pastries, breads, cereal, coffee, tea juices, fruit salad. Coffee, variety of teas, hot chocolate and fruits are available throughout the day for guests in the dining area. read more

I stayed here two weeks ago with my family who drove down to come visit me on the East coast. We stayed for four days and three nights, and I would be back. My greeting was less than warm and welcome, which is unfortunate especially since I was welcomed by the Front Desk Manager. Considering the location, you are smack in the middle of corporate downtown, not too far from all the hustle of the waterfront and bar scene. Parking is $20 a day.. not worth it. The room smelled extremely new, and was clean and well kept, as it should be for a hotel as new as this one. We had a fine view of the harbor from our room, although the gloomy weekend didn't leave much to see because of the fog. We did not have a mini fridge in our room, which was disappointing because we had leftovers from all the seafood restaurants we'd explored over the weekend. Free wi-fi was appreciated, as well as the complimentary hot breakfast served downstairs every morning. The seating in the area for breakfast is limited, considering the amount of guests that stay in the hotel. It's a decent breakfast if you just want something that's fast, free, and easy to take on the run if you're visiting or have a schedule to attend to. This is a nice, new Hilton location in downtown Halifax. This was my first time in Halifax. The immediate area the hotel is located in seems to be under a lot of construction, but you are a short walk from a lot of bars and restaurants. This is definitely a part of town for college aged people looking to get drunk. The hotel itself is nice. The parking is a little pricey, but you are downtown. I wish they had a bar or restaurant inside the hotel. However, the woman at the front desk was very helpful and told us where to go for food nearby. I would stay here again. read more

We stayed here during our recent trip to beautiful Nova Scotia. It was a convenient location to walk everywhere downtown and to the Harbour or parks. Clean, comfortable, well kept, with the trademark great beds, this was a quintessential Hampton Inn. Its breakfast area was very clean and the food offerings were typical of a Hampton, designed to appeal to a wide variety of guests. I personally prefer local coffeeshops, but you can put together a varied plate and have a mug or two of coffee at the convivial high dining table. I would recommend it as a no non-sense, affordable option in Halifax. read more

Stayed there for one night with two rooms. First of all, I'd like to say that we had no issue with the rooms which were nice and it's location, but we had an issue with their charges and how they had responded to our issue. Our reservation / confirmation was through Bookings.com. At check in time, we were tired and didn't notice that the front desk overcharged us and did not give us the rate we were promised. However, we did notice this before we checked out the next day and the front desk, realizing their mistake, apologized and proceeded to credit our credit card for the amount. Since we had two rooms, two separate credits were applied and everything looked like it was in order when we departed. Upon returning home and receiving our credit card statement, it turned out that Hampton Inn made a mistake and gave us a credit for the error for one room, and charged us the same amount for the second. i.e.. The credit and debit cancelled out and they still ended up overcharging us for the two rooms. Long story short, even with several email exchanges with Hampton Inn with supporting Visa statements to show their mistake, Hampton Inn had great difficulty in figuring out their mistake. Only through the intervention of Hilton HQ, were they able to figure it out and we were finally promised a credit back to our account. Unfortunately, even after a month after this 'resolution', this still hasn't happened. Bottomline: Make sure when you check to be vigilant that they charge you the rate that you had booked it for. read more

We had taken an overnight ferry from Portland ME. To Nova Scotia. When we got to the hotel they had given our reservation away. The reservations were for 4 days but they cancelled them on the first day. There were no hotels available because of a conference in the area. We had booked the reservations months in advance, we had no place to stay. The nearest place was over 40 miles away. What stood out the most was the staff at the hotel. I was amazed at the wonderful service we received during our stay. Have you ever booked a hotel that did not say "based on double occupancy"? My husband and I stayed at the Hampton Inn Halifax-Downtown this past weekend and when my husband booked he was quoted a price of $129.00, being the provincial government rate. When we checked out the receipt said $149.00, plus tax, plus the parking. I went back to the front desk and inquired about it and was told that the government rate was $139.00 per night and that there was an extra $10.00 per night for having my husband in the room. I have never heard of such a thing when there are only two persons in total. In my mind, this was not right. They let you believe you are getting some kind of a deal by working for the government and then they add on for a second person. We will not return there. read more

this hotel is an absolute scam!!!! they charged me over $200 because they "suspected" i smoked in the room!!! i am not even a smoker!! if i was, i would've paid $50 for a smoking room! no proof of me smoking in the room yet they still stole my money!!! absolute fraud!!!! i've heard this happening to other guests too!!! guaranteed if you stay here, they'll find a way to gut you too. i wouldn't risk it. when i called to ask about the charge they were very passive aggressive and hung up on me and never called back!! signs of pure guilt!!!! fuck this shitty hotel! your rooms aren't even that great! the maids didn't clean our room properly during our stay (beds were half made, didn't get fresh towels, etc) and yet they still had the nerve to charge me for extra cleaning!!!! what a joke!!! i would never recommend anyone staying in this evil fucking hotel! fuck you hampton inn!!! read more
