I ended up here because my chain based "go-to" joint failed me when they didn't have what I needed. My visit was in June, before the Halloween season kicked off, so I'm not sure what it's like around that time, but the other reviews say they have a lot of that kinda stuff. When I was there, it seemed as if most of their costumes were renaissance festival/pirate/medieval themed. It's not a very large shop, but they really do have a lot of stuff to choose from. The costumes aren't cheap throwaway costumes like you get at the chain costume places. They're REAL quality clothes that you could wear again and again for years. In fact, there was a lady in there planning out costumes for her wedding party - it was going to be renaissance themed. If she was at this place looking for apparel and accessories for her wedding, you KNOW it has to be good stuff. Lots of jewelry and accessories to choose from as well. The dude running the store that day was very helpful and even suggested a couple of accessories for my costume. It's located in a large strip center, so parking is no problem at all. read more

This store is terrifically crazy and weird, like a mix of a fun house and a costume shop and an art gallery. The first thing that hits you upon entering Atlantis Discovered is the smell: pure, unadulterated incense, baby. Then your eyes gradually become accustomed to the dark lit store and attempt to make sense of their surroundings. Mine took in authentic looking angel wings, silver jewelry, belly dancing scarves and hanging kimonos all in one swoop. Whoa. That's a lot of stuff. I slowly walked in, looking at the various costumes and trinkets by the entrance. Someone said hello from somewhere behind hanging fairy wings and a costumed mannequin. I ventured a hello back, wondering if I would get lost in this place, just as surely as the unidentified man had. I wandered back through incense and candles and jewelry, through clothing racks to what I assumed was the end of the store. But I was wrong... it just kept on going, art work splayed across metal furniture, room after little room, ending with a fountain and twinkle lights. Also, part of the crazy appeal of this place was the funhouse meets French music playing in the background. The store owner eventually found me and said hello. He was very friendly and helpful. Being in this little store just made me want to kick back amid all the interesting trinkets and odd costumes, maybe by the oddly lit fountain on one of the soft Persian rugs, and veg. Atlantis Discovered is a discrete store located in a Hobby Lobby strip mall that looks a bit unassuming outside. However, once you walk in, you will be treated to shelves of jewels, broaches, novelty items, and costumes. Whether for Halloween, cosplay, or some other occasion, you will definitely be able to find something here. However, the prices can get pretty high. It's also a bit worrying because I spent about $40-50 on a cloak, then another $30+ on a (very nice) costume hat. These items are definintely built to last so you do get what you pay for. In comparison to a cheap cloak I bought on Amazon, the cloak I got from Atlantis Discovered has a beautiful velvet finish with a satin-looking lining. Most of the original pricetags and labels are cut off of some of the tags so you will not be able to compare some of the items to online prices. However, I'm always a fan of supporting local businesses, and Atlantis definitely seems like a treasure trove of the bizarre and unique. Customer service is pretty great, and the personnel who checked me out was beyond kind and willing to provide some decor suggestions. He advised me to replace the button on the cloak to increase its longevity. I also kept my eye out for a flashy broach to complete my outfit, but the clerk didn't pressure me to buy one in the counter window. Probably not a store to visit all the time but great for theme parties, Halloween, and costume parties. read more

I just visited this store, and had the worst experience!! I wasn't in the store for five minutes and the owner or manager accused me of going into the dressing room and taking something!! I had never been to the store and was walking around and looked into a mirror and walked away, and he came up to me and accused me of going in!! And started telling me to take off my jacket I did because I had nothing to hide and was showing him I literally had nothing on me and he still continued to tell me things!! Stopped in to Atlantis Discovered on a whim looking for a costume for my wife for the Comic Con this weekend. She had no idea what she wanted, other than it had to be cute and not 'cheap' looking (i.e. no bag costumes). Luckily we found this place before we went to Party City because she was treated to first class service and offered several different options of hand-made clothing until she left happy and excited for the event with a unique Steampunk themed Victorian outfit. It was a little cold, so she switched from stockings to tights at the last minute, but she still had heads turning all the way down Caesar Chavez Blvd on the way to the event from the car. She had a lot of photo ops, and at one point I'm sure Freddy Kruger was demanding to know where she got her outfit. read more

I found this store online and did not see hours listed. So I decided to use common sense and go to the store at a business friendly day and time. It was a Tuesday and it was about 2pm. Upon opening the door, a male staff immediately told me that were closed in a rude tone. They did not have business hours listed on the door and he didn't tell me when to come back. He just said "we're closed, come back Friday." I asked him what time he opens and he scoffed and said, again rudely, "11." He answered the question like he didn't know what time he opened and just threw out a time. Needless to say, I never returned with that attitude. read more

Atlantis Discovered has a lot of unique stuff if you can find it... It's in a strip mall and the signage blends in with the rest of the strip. The actual store can actually be overwhelming at first, but I had a pretty narrowed focus. Thats probably the only thing that turned me off, so much stuff, so little space. Luckily, my girlfriend and I went to the store for a specific item, some masks for a company Masquerade themed party. They have a large assortment of masks covering up the back wall for maybe 30+ feet. While the masks are all laid out neatly on the wall, the drawback is if there is a large crowd it may take some time to find a mask because an employee has to get the masks down for you. This only delayed us for maybe 5 minutes, so no big deal. The prices here are middle of the road in value, I felt like I got a decent product at a decent price. It's also nice because you can try on masks and costumes there which can be difficult to do online. Also, if you have a large enough party or company, you can get a discount but you have to talk to the store owner beforehand and let your coworkers/friends know to mention it. The owner and the staff were increadibly helpful and quite friendly. I'm not sure what the experience the other reviewer had but my customer service experience was top notch! Overall, if you need something for a costume or something weird and you have no idea where to go...try Atlantis Discovered. read more

This place is awesome. I discovered it around Halloween, which was good and bad. Good because of the insane amount of cool costumes and accessories they had. Bad because of it being around Halloween and the stores coolness factor, it was nearly shoulder to shoulder in there. Even with the volume of people, the staff made sure I found what I was looking for and were very engaging and helpful. They told us to make sure to come back during the Christmas season and told us of the decorating plans they had for the shop. I was intrigued. I have been back a few times since then - to say that they have an interesting selection of eclectic items is a gross understatement. I usually do two circles through the store each trip, because I will always see something I missed during the first go round. Highlights: The Venetian/Masquerade Masks - HUGE selection, they're just beautiful The Incense - they have stuff I haven't seen elsewhere Various Costumes/Clothing - from belly dancing attire to velvet capes to kimonos to sarongs, lots of stuff here year round In addition to this, the two gentlemen that run the place are a delight. They remembered us from our initial visit and if the store is not busy, we always chat. I don't know what happened the day Tammy M chose to visit; I have never had this kind of experience at Atlantis. The sprinkles on top is that you would expect this place to be outrageously priced. I didn't find the owners rude, as a previous reviewer found. And their hours are distinctly listed on their website so I didn't have a problem with that. It's just two guys, and I'm not sure they have other hired help, so I think you do kind of get a sense that you are being scrutinized a little bit when you walk in. Maybe they are just trying to get a sense of whether you are a respectful person or might steal. Which I can understand having worked in retail, and small business owners are very protective of their stores. I wasn't greeted when I came in but I could feel them watching me. I didn't mind too much. This store is very unique. A lot of rhinestone jewelry and miscellaneous trinkets and decor. Lots of masquerade masks and belly dancing attire. Also, some nice Egyptian decor. They do boast on their website that their inventory changes a lot, so I'm not sure how much of their inventory carries over month to month or year to year, considering this was my first time in. After my friend and I ventured through the store (which is whimsical and quite fun to explore), one of the gentlemen asked if we were doing okay. I said we were enjoying his store and he said he was glad we liked it. We took our time, and upon leaving thanked them as we walked out and he thanked us for coming in. I am so glad i finally found this place! I'm not sure how I missed it. Apparently it's a secret of the locals or something. The selection here is amazing. They do have a large amount of the packaged costumes you typically find at other stores BUT WHAT SETS THIS STORE APART are the many options for higher grade costume apparel as well as the owner's and workers' passion for costuming and crafting. They are full of endless ideas and options to customize looks. For someone looking for more authentic looking attire or for Cosplay items and clothing don't pass this place up. The prices are reasonable and you can probably find everything you need here as they sell so much in the way of jewelry, crowns, tights, hats... you name the accessory they probably have it and if not they will probably be able to point you in the right direction. I was referred to this store but upon arrival I was met with smug, unfriendly staff. I stayed and browsed disregarding the hostility I felt however, after looking around I left. The merchandise seemed very cheap to me. I also witnessed a man behind the counter being very rude to a sweet lady that was trying to obtain a refund she was promised. There was no reason to treat that lady or any other customer badly. I later thought how they must think that this won't hurt their business not to mention their karma. First time visiting today. First thought when walking in was that there were some less common items sold there. I did not get to venture far before the male behind the counter yelled at my friend and I to not touch the cloaks because they were $200 (I saw no visible sign saying not to touch, by the way). They did not look anywhere close to that price (quality wise) but when I asked what someone was to do if the cloaks were to long, he asked if I was looking into buying. I repeatedly asked about the length issues multiple times before be begrudgingly said that they could take it out for alterations. Personally, I would like to know if an article of clothing would need alterations (thus needing further investment) before purchase. He said that he knew people and we/they were not to play in the store but did not realize that he lost a potential (possibly repeat, you never know) customer by yelling at my friend and I.
