We based out of Beverly, Salem and Revere. This year we decided to try something closer to Boston. We found Crystal Cove after hearing from friends about the great management and fantastic improvements to the facilities. We called and spoke with Greg and made an appointment to view the marina. The location is absolutely fantastic. It's a sheltered harbor. The drive in is through a wonderful old town style oceanfront community. There were plenty of Restaurants and stores within walking distance, and a few places actually will deliver to your boat in the slip. The marina sports a large parking area which in the winter is used for boat storage. They have a full service repair shop right by the docks. The docks themselves are in very good repair and a keycard is required for access. There is a full service gas dock with very reasonable prices and even ice bags available for coolers. The restrooms have been completely rebuilt and remodeled , are absolutely gorgeous, and include gigantic showers with plenty of room to bring your clothes and change. The only thing I saw potentially missing - and I'd love to see -would be wi-fi availability from on the docks. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even to their most new customers like me who they all hadn't even met yet. The biggest shock came when we had an engine issue with the outboard on our boat. I was expecting to have to haul the boat and go through tons of hassles to get an unscheduled in season repair done quickly. Nope, the staff at Crystal Cove Marina saved the day and took the worry completely away. They pulled the motor from the boat right at the slip, had it right into the shop, and got it repaired and reinstalled on the boat without any issues at all. They return phone calls, and are excellent at email communications as well. They have discounts for full payment of slips early in the season with rates that are too good to be true this close to Boston at such a great Marina. These folks will work with you to make sure you're a happy customer. They're now even offering discounts on things like Sea Tow memberships. I highly recommend Crystal Cove Marina for your boating needs. Ray I

Winthrop is an awesome little seaside town. There's only two ways in and two ways out which makes…read moreit extremely safe. Want to venture into Winthrop if you head all the way to the end you'll reach Deer Island. It has a feeling of being on Cape Cod Martha's Vineyard Nantucket etc. Winthrop has a few different beaches the main beach being Winthrop beach reservation. This is a somewhat rocky terrain there are sandy spots and you have multiple jetties to walk out during low tide and fish. When the surf is up you can even find people surfing down at the end near the water tank. My favorite of all the beaches is Yirrel Beach. This is a fantastic sandy beach with an abundance of sea life medium size waves which makes it fun and very safe for children. Everyone assumes it's a private beach because it's always empty. The only way to reach this beach is to get one of the 20 spots down at the beginning or know someone in the neighborhood where to park and it's reachable by bus and boat, there is usually never any parking at all whatsoever so make a friend down Point Shirley to enjoy Yirrel. And if you want amazing views and a nice walking path or biking path Deer Island will definitely be a pleasure. As for the rest of the town the sidewalks basically roll up at 9 o'clock unless you're a local yolkal and invited to stay for drinks once everything is closed down. There's also multiple marinas and yacht clubs so if you're a boater Winthrop is Paradise. The schools are A1 housing Believe it or not is affordable for being so close to the shore and it's only a 15 minute commute to Boston via MBTA bus lines. You can find some great cuisine here many good restaurants some are actually byob. Also if you're a beach bum this is paradise! All in all a fabulous little town. I give Winthrop a Solid 5 Stars.

(Review of the marina's houseboat rentals, not the marina or boat repair service.) For houseboat…read morerentals, Boston Bay Marina turned out to be an awesome alternative to a hotel. We rented 2 of their houseboats, Andromeda and Lyra, for a college graduation weekend. (There's also at least one much bigger houseboat and others of similar size.) Each sleeps six: two in a stateroom, two in the loft over the stateroom ceiling (uh, deck I think it's called), two on a pull-out sofa. Two decks outside, upper and lower, with a great view of Boston's working harbor (Chelsea River, Mystic River Bridge). The staff was friendly and fixed a couple minor issues quickly (BBQ grill wouldn't light initially). Our houseboats had one bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) but there are also marina showers for transient boaters who also use the marina. There's electric heat and a pair of air conditioners, TV, iPod dock/speakers, and a refrigerator-sink-electric stove galley (kitchen). East Boston is a rapidly gentrifying part of Boston with condo and townhouse construction coming. You can get to Boston by walking a block, taking the bus 10 minutes to the T (subway) station, and then it's quickly into Boston. The rental includes free water taxi shuttle into Boston a couple times a day plus you can reserve a time slot in advance. The marina also rents pier space to boat owners, transient boats, and has a couple long-term tenants, all giving it a nice charming flavor. You'd expect to hear "Margaritaville" break out at any moment. Our review rating is 4.5 stars rounded up. The boats are clean and work well but you see a couple signs of wear, as you'd expect of boats not maintained by dot-com millionaires. You'll hear some road noise from the McArdle bridge grating. Wifi is free but would benefit from one more repeater. Some renters may (may not will) wish they were renting on fancier Rowe's Wharf but it's likely you'd be paying twice as much. The marina is behind an auto body shop but a) this is the cleanest auto body shop you'll ever see (no wrecks in sight) and b) that also means secure, free parking. Here can you get up early on a Sunday morning to see a glass-smooth harbor and two tugs threading a giant ocean-going ship through Boston Harbor. That was an awesome way to have the day's first cup of coffee. Basically, you're getting a hotel harborside suite with kitchen for half the price of the bricks-and-mortar kind of hotel. Great bang for the buck.

We booked a room at Boston Yacht Haven Inn and were thrilled from the moment we arrived. The room was beautifully decorated, but the real standout was the spectacular balcony view. The staff surprised us with a complimentary bottle of prosecco, and the fresh baked cookies available in the hallway were a great touch. We had everyone meet us at the inn before dinner and spent time together in the Captains Room, which is BYOB, then took a short walk to Hanover Street for an amazing meal followed by after-dinner drinks and desserts. The best part was ending the night back at BYHI&M, relaxing together again in the Captains Room. The next morning, the included breakfast delivered right to our room was the perfect finishing touch. Great food, great views, great experience. We will definitely be returning.

The staff will go home around 6:00ish. So if you arrive after the hour, there is the way to come in. Only one person stay for the security purpose all night long. (I think) But not staying at the front desk. They do have a complimentary breakfast. They do have an incredible view! And feel little isolated in a great way because this inn on the edge of the bay, but not really isolated physically. I will be staying here if the room is available every time I will come to Boston. I am hesitated to announce this jewel. I almost want to hide. But if you have chance enjoy staying here. If you need attention all the time from the staff, this may not be your place. When the staff is around, they are such a friendly kind staff. I love them.
