Came here for a quick lunch before our steamboat tour. A great place to people watch or even to enjoy the scenery of Lake Wakatipu while dining. I had the baked sole and it was pretty delicious ( a little too oily but flavors were good). With a wide range of beer selection, dont forget to order yourself a pint ;)

We got a recommendation from a local San Diegan (?) now living in New Zealand. She said that if she had to choose a last meal in Queenstown, she would have the steak here! So we walked into this cozy little bar with room for maybe 15 people and ordered the steak and 2 appetizers. The steak was delicious paired with the Tui (local Kiwi beer) we ordered. The steak came with fries, a salad, and a delicious slab of blue cheese on top of the perfectly cooked medium steak. This was indeed our favorite part of the meal! We also ordered the mushroom ragout, which included mushrooms and blue cheese, over polenta on a bed of sweet sauce (chutney?). The mushrooms were tasty, but we could have done without the bed of sweet sauce. This dish paired well with the steak. We ordered the duck curry with rolled poppadum chips. The duck was tasty and not so greasy. A good appetizer, but I feel a bit tunnel vision with the steak. Get the Steak! Get the Steak! It's a cozy bar, not so loud, with delicious bar type fusion food. Yum!

I was beginning to like Atlas's coffee and service but until I went there this morning. Both my wife and I had coffees from Atlas but the kids wanted to have stuff from Fergbaker. So we were sitting outside having coffee while my food was on the way and kids were having their donuts from Fergbaker until the waiteress came to serve food to people sitting next to us and loudly said that we couldn't have food from outside. It was embarrassing and very pathetic customer service. This girl with the glasses probably needs to learn how to talk to customers. The bearded Barista was quite friendly and engaged better. Plus he makes great coffee! On the contrary, the steak sandwich was great along with their coffees... Great location as well with seating available outdoors...

My husband and I were recommend this place by one of the locals. The beer selection is great. The food is delicious and the views at sunset are wonderful. The wait for the food was a little long, however it was a Friday night. We would definitely visit again!

Thoroughly enjoyed a few pints while overlooking the majesty of Lake Wakatipu. Beer selection was great! My partner and I appreciated the friendly staff and laid back ambiance, slightly tucked away off the beaten track... Will definitely return for a few more!

My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

For some reason, this beer bar and the last made a big deal about having Sculpin on tap. And little did they know, these San Diegan's cared not! Plenty of fresh hops selections were eyed instead, brews from Garage Project and Behemoth the MUCH better selections. The beer bar is huge with plenty of places to post up. Despite it's location in touristy QTN, Smith's keeps it laidback with its rougher environs that are not overdone or cringey like some of the places in QTN. Didn't have a food, but it looked to be of good value in expensive QTN, that is, if you aren't tired of pub food.

My fiancé made the smart decision of looking at areas outside of downtown and found this restaurant. It's a little on the outskirts of downtown but not too far (via car). Our reservation was for 9 but we got there almost an hour earlier yet managed to get a table. The owner/manager (?) welcomed us and sat us himself. As for tables for dining, this place is pretty small so it makes sense to make a reservation for dinner during the busy seasons. This is definitely a local place and the service shows that. We ordered the tomato and basil bruschetta to share and a glass of Riesling, we enjoyed both. Like most places in NZ I've been to, they have one vegetarian option in their mains so I went with it: house-made gnocchi with tomato, chili, basil, olive & caper sauce with ricotta and Parmesan cheese. It was absolutely delicious, after having Italian at several places in NZ, this dish felt the most authentic and was hands down the best. I've enjoyed every part of the dish and wanted more. The fiancé ordered the Fiordland wild venison, seared on mushroom risotto and steamed green beans and liked it a lot. The service was pretty good, I've learned to lower my expectations regarding service when outside the US but our waitress was sweet and personable. The owner/manager also checked on us several times throughout the meal. We had a little issue with some items being wrong on the check itself and getting the check (but I assume they simply didn't want to rush us) but all in all, I truly enjoyed this place and it was probably the best meal we had on our trip.

We ordered a Mediterranean pizza and garlic bread. Although it wasn't 100% authentic Italian it was the best pizza we ate while in New Zealand. In a previous town, I had a taster of Speights Old 5 Dark Mild Ale-enjoying the mild roasty creamy blend, but didn't have time for a full pour- so I was delighted, when walking through Queenstown, to discover Speights Alehouse, realizing this was my opportunity for a full pour. We dined during the lunch hour, in which we were able to choose from a lunch hour $15 plate special; ordering a fish & chips- and an off-special regular menu lamb shank w.mashed potatoes & peas \ Inside, the building has a quaint historic feeling, like going back in time to the local 1876 pub. We sat in front of a woodburning fireplace, enjoying the warmth and ambiance..along with our full pours Our dishes were hearty; food for the belly and soul- the meats melted in our mouths, everything tasted like home cooking (like we were visiting a friend cooking NZ specialties for us, versus more takeaway). Well-seasoned, large portions. Would recommend a lunch-time visit.
