    Leaving at night.

I hate to say this, as I was in from out of town, but I cannot recommend this cinema. Even though I was fascinated by the history and design of it (it truly is a neat building), it is not very ADA compliant but WORST OF ALL it needs bug remediation! Went to a screening in cinema #2 and when the house lights came up, I saw not one but two cockroaches scurry (one on the back of a seat just two or so rows in front of me and the other on the ground a few more rows in front of that). I made sure to get close enough to check it out and...sure enough, they were roaches. The screen in cinema 2 seemed to have a black dot or impact mark (from something hitting it and leaving an indentation or mark). It was obnoxious to me. The concessions were pretty low par. We ordered pretzels and there was only one left so we watched two get microwaved and sprayed with butter (so it could be salted) by an employee that kept putting her mask down on her chin then back up. She had gloves on but was also handling ticket sales (probably money, too). She was nice and this happens so much these days, I'm woefully desensitized to it. There was no unoccupied place to sit and eat, as loiterers were all just sitting around waiting for their something?! Anyway, cockroaches. That is really the big and single "not again" gripe I have.

The food was amazing and so was the drink. (yes i stole my friend drink.) The theater was pretty clean and the service was amazing. My friend literally didnt pay for the ticket on accident. So when we went to order the food, the lady was like "wheres ur seat?" And of course my friend didnt have a "x" on the seat but she didnt charge any extra fees or anything for my friend. Instead she was so polite and gave us our food, not even questioning the fact my friend didnt pay for the seat‍. In addition to that, i was nervous since it was my first time going to the movies without a adult there with me. So i was nervous and accidentally gave her more money than intended. Instead of stealing my money, she just gave it back and told me the correct way to do it. I really appreciated her great service plus i feel like more workers are needed like her. Anywho i dont understand the stars this place have. I feel like it deserves around 4-4.5 stars.

I opted for the former, and called it my cardio for the day ;) Very modern and clean interior, friendly enough staff. I did have a bit of a wait for service at the bar, as the server was MIA for a few minutes. You can order your concessions at the bar, or in the theater by scanning the QR code at your seat, and someone will bring them to you. Seats were plush and comfy, pricing was typical, and I enjoyed the movie. I would definitely return. 8/10

A staff person gives an introduction before the movie and both times we have been there recently there was a raffle for a coffee gift card. The cinema itself is large and you sit in seats with fold up seats. It is part of an art school There are no concessions, but it appears you can bring your own snacks and drinks. They only show films on the weekend, but they usually show a good variety over a three day period. You can pick up a paper schedule or check the schedule online. There is paid parking in a garage close by or you could look for street parking. If you love old movies this is the place for you. Another plus is the theatre is close to Little Italy. You can pick up a cannoli before or after the show. This is always a bonus for us. My only complaint is I wish The Cinematheque was located closer to my home. It is a great venue!

I love the art of film, and attending films here is one of my favorite things to do in Cleveland. From documentaries, to classic films, to new films or world cinema, they do it all. However, COVID has changed the world of film. Like so many of my favorite film spots, the Cinematheque has transitioned to a virtual screening room...and I love it. They are doing a beautiful job still curating excellent films available for home viewing. With such limited new films coming out, this is important! They are keeping the art of film alive! Please donate to the Cinematheque if you can or rent a film from their virtual screening room. So what's next in my queue? They have an awesome documentary on Cleveland's own Agnes Gund, which I'm renting this weekend! Support local!
