I strongly recommend Atlas Doghouse. My bulldog Nigel has been going to daycare and walked by their walkers for about 9 months now. Having caretakers who really love dogs (and love my dog) is very important to me. Nearly every person I've interacted with has effusively loved the dogs. Nigel LOVES going to daycare here. He sprints out of the car and down the street. The owners and managers, Danny and Josh, are very responsive and organized. I've had a great experience with them, and I know Nigel has, too! I had an excellent experience with Danny and Atlas Doghouse. I recently returned to the H Street area after living in a different part of town and saw that this place had popped up. My 3 y/o corgi thinks he's bigger than he really is and I needed some help in correcting his leash aggression/reactivity issues. After a 15 minute educational phone conversation with Danny (one of the owners), we were able to agree on a very fair price and time to meet up. After yesterday's 2 hour training session that included an educational sit down on reactive dogs, how to correct these issues, and a long walk where we practiced these techniques, I could not be more pleased with the progress I saw in such a small period of time. read more

Josh has been taking care of my two dogs for a year now and they both love hanging out with him. They have never been excited to be boarded or go to daycare but both pups love going to Atlas. I never pick them up stressed or anxious and they always come home tired, happy and ready for a nap. The new building allows dogs to play but also rest and have alone time in separate spaces with beds and blankets. A staff member is on location 24/7 and are knowledgeable about how to care for the fur babies. I highly recommend Atlas for any dog services. read more

Danny and Josh have been taking care of my (extra large) poodle, Beau, for over four years--daily walks and overnight visits, and I could not have done it without them. They have had complete access to my home and pup for over four years and are spectacular at their jobs. Beau gets "on the walk" training every single day, and Josh always makes him extra special dinners when he has overnight visits. I never worry about Beau when I am out of town. This is an update to my 8/31 review (and 9/1 update). My initial experience with Atlas was horrible (as described in the prior review), but I was really impressed with the way that Danny took responsibility for the failings. After talking through everything with him, I was willing to give the company another shot, but wanted to meet the dog walker Danny suggested for my pup to see if he would be a good fit and someone I would be comfortable having in my home (I did not have a chance to meet the first dog walker). Adrian very kindly came to my home on a holiday (his day off) to meet me and my dog, and to chat a bit about how he works with dogs. I liked him immediately and felt like I could trust him, so I decided to stick with Atlas for a while to see how things go. Adrian has been taking my pup out for daily walks for over a month now, and it has been really great. There have been NO repeats of the issues that I experienced with the previous Atlas dog walker. I have a high-energy boy, so I really appreciate that Adrian takes him out for more than the 30 minute session each day (usually much longer). When I'm out walking my pup myself, and we cross paths with Adrian in the neighborhood, my boy seems genuinely happy to see him, which is really sweet. My pup also comes with some challenges: (1) really serious food allergies vs. (2) a tendency to chew up and swallow anything (seriously - plastic, rubber, thorny nuts from trees). That has led to various problems, vet visits, etc. Danny and Adrian have both been great about taking in all of that information, and I have confidence that Adrian keeps an eye out for my boy to keep him as safe as possible while out and about with the pack. Adrian keeps me posted through daily notes, and once even left me a really nice note about how my boy is progressing in terms of attentiveness and interaction with other dogs in the pack (he's only 1 and still learning the ropes). Extra efforts like that make me feel like he is not just taking care of my pup because it's his job, but because he really likes him, and wants him to do well and be happy. My boy is a rescue pup who spent the first 10 months of his life tied to an outdoor pole and has marks of mistreatment, so the fact that he spends part of each day with another person who really cares about him is heartwarming. In terms of administrative stuff, Danny has been great in handling my account. In addition to working full-time, I am a caregiver to aging parents with medical issues, and that results in a lot of schedule shifting. Danny has been really great about early morning cancelations and responds almost immediately to my messages. I know how busy he is, so that's pretty impressive. I'm really happy to be able to write this update and recommend Atlas, at least insofar as you get to work with Danny and Adrian. It just goes to show that a business can redeem itself if an owner takes positive steps to make failings right. read more

Not just for dogs! Danny and co. have done a wonderful job keeping an eye on my cat when I need to travel ever since I moved to DC. They will come to your apartment, so no need to stress your fluffy friends with boarding if you don't need to. My cat was recently diagnosed with some long term health issues and needs daily medications. Danny was very kind and is available to administer medications. Not always easy to find a good cat sitter, but Atlas Doghouse has been amazing! read more

When I first got my sweet baby, it had been ten years since I had a dog, and I was a little rough around the edges in puppy 101. A friend recommended Atlas Dog House. I don't know what I would have done without them. I was living in Capitol Hill, and they were ready to help me with anything and everything. They would pick up and drop off Penny on days that I was running late to work. If she had an appointment for grooming, they would take her and days that she didn't come in; they would come to my home and walk her. It was the best customer service experience, especially for a new mom of a puppy, a full-time teacher, and in school. When I first got Penny, she was anxious and scared of everyone and everything. Taking her to Atlas helped her work through her fears by socializing with other dogs and the loving staff. They even throw a birthday party for the dogs. They took care of her as though Penny was their own. Penny would drag me by the leash to get into the door. Kate, one of the owners, is and will always be Penny's daycare mom. Whenever I say, her name or mention daycare Penny stands next to the door ready to go. I moved to Takoma Park almost a year ago, and the hardest part was Penny wouldn't be able to go to her second home. Atlas worked with me to figure out a way to make sure Penny could still come in. One of the staff members happens to live near me and picks her up sometimes. They even had helped me out when I first moved in and was a justing to my new work schedule and couldn't get home in time to wl Penny. Atlas Dog House is not just a business; it is a Family. We recently got a rescue puppy who was barking and lunging at every dog she saw, and sometimes even humans! She'd bark in the house, have separation anxiety She wasn't a bad dog at all, she was incredibly sweet but was just full of nerves and we didn't know what to do. We booked one personal training with Danny and nearly all of it went away - we were taught more than our dog Ellie was taught about hierarchy, etiquette, and so much more. Danny and his team are the best. I did my research and even tried other dog services in the city, but Atlas Doghouse is the best. I cannot say enough about how much they care about your fur baby. Each team members knows the individual dog, his or her personality, and takes serious consideration for their safety at all times. When my little one and I moved to the city, she had a hard time adjusting. I called several places to inquire about training. Danny called me personally and was the only trainer to ask me specific questions about my fur baby to be able to provide me the best advice for what she needs. During our initial consultation, Danny wanted to reduce the stress of my dog and scheduled an "emergency" training session with us, meaning he saw us in a couple of days instead of making us wait for two weeks like the other companies. He wanted to ensure my dog could enjoy her new home. During the training, we walked through the local community. We were stopped several times by dog walkers asking for his expertise and his other clients who sang his praises. Danny even followed up with me after our training to make sure my little one was progressing. It is evident Danny and his team have made a positive impact on the community for many people and most importantly, our fur babies. I just went through training with Danny, the owner of Atlas Dog House, and this is the best couple hundred dollars that I've spent on my 2.5 year old Bourbon, a large giant mixed breed, since I adopted him. Danny is a behavioral specialist, and I learned so much about dog psychology first--just as pivotal in understanding where Bourbon is coming from when we're on the leash, as the actual practical/operational training part was. Danny was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, aware, and his passion for animals, as well as experience with dogs of all shapes, sizes and various behaviors, was evident. We also use Atlas for dog walks, and Danny is extremely responsive to any of my questions via text or phone. Overall, I highly recommend Danny for any kind of behavioral issue/challenge you might need training with. I brought Danny a 16-year-old grump of a country dog who had never managed to get along with other dogs in her life and was finding city life super stressful. When she was younger I went to multiple professional trainers and taught myself everything I could about positive reinforcement training, but we could never cross that barrier to help her relax around other dogs. Within an hour, Danny had her nose to nose with another dog, and while I was out of town for a couple of days she made her first friend ever! If you're a die-hard clicker trainer like myself, you might be skeptical about Danny's methods, but my dog is pretty frail and Danny is incredibly gentle with her while he helps her figure out how to be social. I can't recommend the Atlas team highly enough-- I know I won't have too much longer to enjoy life with my pup, and Danny is helping make her golden years comfortable and happy :) read more
