My son went there and…read morewas told he had like 10 minutes of phone time a day not like screen time I mean time allowed on a damn landline to talk to his family and wasn't allowed to talk to his friends outside. And when he got back from it he just continued doing his same old shit this place is just like any other money grabbing corporation and don't really care about the kids. Who btw have absolutely NO privacy there is even someone that checks in on them when they SLEEP like every 10 minutes or something and they can't leave the line of sight of the counselors who are actually the ONLY positive thing about our experience and I was told that there are like only 3 good counselors. I think ones name was John, anothers name was I believe amber , and the last good ones I know were destiny and drew. Also they need to FIRE a staff named Ariel or something she made fun of an autistic kid and frequently yelled for communication and showed someone getting jumped on her work laptop to my kid and get this they can't even have blankets the only time they get them is at bed and that's it my kid is super clingy and gets homesick so easily to the point where the first day he was puking his guts out and WASNT allowed to call me for support instead was told to "use a skill" about a thousand times it seems like that is the only thing they recommend. My son's GPA was affected negatively as well as they only give like an hour a day for school work, are you kidding my son has 6 classes including a language and an AP class which he ended up failing because he could only work on it for an HOUR a day. My son went there for nonviolent depression and had to be mixed in with people who were doing Fentanyl, trying to kill themselves, had violent tendencies and someone who thought they were a fucking animal. Continuing on one of the sessions he told me about was they had watched a TED talk on HOW TO WRITE AN EMAIL?!?! Another one was how to pick out healthy groceries. Like what? These are kids who are struggling with life. They also have basically 0 access to the outside world as well. One time he got so scared because he felt so alone and he almost had a panic attack and tried to call my wife and was punished and told to "Use a skill" I met with I think her name was Tamara she was a fat ugly dumb bitch and didn't answer any of my questions. They also said that the average stay time is 30-45 days and my child stayed for over 60 and I'm sure they did it just to make more money my child also informed me that there was a kid there that was there for like 80 days and also said that most kids stayed around 55-60 days. That concludes my rant about this absolutely HORRENDOUS organization. DO NOT SEND YOUR KID HERE

I figured talking to someone couldn't hurt, and I wasn't forced to go back if I didn't like it. I saw Kristin for the first time about two years ago, and I really appreciate her non-judgmental, careful way of getting you to open up. I'm not someone who talks about much, really, but this turned out to be the best investment I've made in myself. While it's expensive, it's worth it. Even just going for "maintenance" sessions is helpful. I started off every other week, but that wasn't enough, so I went once, sometimes twice a week for a couple of months. After that, I was able to use the tools she gave me in the real world, and the benefits really stick. You matter to people in this world, so you have to matter to yourself too.

I reached out to Coastal Counseling after reading the great reviews. It took days before hearing back from anyone and then after giving my information to the receptionist (?) they said they would reach out to the therapists to see who would want to take us on. Weeks go by and so I follow up and then the person asks me all the same questions again and then says the same exact thing...they'll reach out to the therapists. Another week goes by and then I get a text message asking if we could do an apt 2 hours before I told them my husband gets home from work. Which is not doable for us. I'm the family scapegoat, purpose of family therapy - address elephant in the room. Why rules which applied to everyone else, did not apply to me. My (narcissist/golden child) sister insisted on meeting with her first, before we met together, the 3 of us. Unaware of what was said in that first meeting, was still hopeful Dr. Hill could help to bring awareness to my family about this toxic family dynamic, so that we could move on harmoniously, as a family. While family scapegoating abuse (FSA) is increasingly more common & gaining awareness, it's not fully understood by mainstream therapists. In this situation, counseling can do more harm than good. Especially for the person who's been systemically abused since childhood, not only by the mentally ill/narcissist parent who targeted her, but rest of the family who learned (consciously/subsconsciously) to treat her as the family trash can. That said, during our FIRST session, Dr. Hill said to me, "you DO know you are an alcoholic, right?" I was shocked. I am NOT an alcoholic. Not even CLOSE! And who the hell is SHE to tell ME I am an alcoholic? She didn't even KNOW me. I LITERALLY just met her. No words to describe how offensive this was. Even my sister agreed how bizarre and completely inappropriate this "diagnosis" was. It was just WRONG. I'll be filing a complaint with CA Board of Psychology. This person should NOT have a license. Talk about "doing more harm than good." FYI - not a wonder her therapist license was revoked (aka "voluntarily surrendered") for "unprofessional conduct" in 2007. So how is she still practicing? A loophole law, aka starting a "non-profit" as "ordained minister" several years later. Just exposing the obvious, so that others can make an informed decision. Proceed with caution. *IMPORTANT & RELEVANT- Maria M.'s review - posted only MINUTES after mine? Previously only 33 reviews. Ever posted. IMMEDIATELY after I post mine, Maria M. decides to post her review? What a strange "coincidence?" Again, encouraging everyone to decide for themselves what's going on here. But ... what are the odds?
