If you try to visit them on the web, CoalfieldStationAntiques.com now looks to be an Asian gambling site. Really??? Anyway, it's nothing like it used to be. Now it's overly-cluttered with far too much craft and bric-a-brak and way fewer antiques. Besides the congenial former owner, quality antiques are what I miss the most. Antique stores should be selling antiques - not yard sale stuff. Prices are certainly no bargain.

The gentleman there was courteous and knowledgeable about the inventory giving me brief histories of the pieces I was interested in. I loved the many colorful and ruugs and lamps highlighted in the store. The only downfall is they don't take credit, so I had to zip on down to the bank around the corner to withdraw some cash. The shop is in a historic house where every room is filled with treasures. As you make your way up the narrow steps, the upstairs has all kinds of nooks and crannies and tiny alcoves filled with vintage pieces. I love the heavy wooden plank floors that creak beneath your feet. The four poster bed with the crocheted canopy is a sight to be seen. The fireplaces are decorated with beautiful candlesticks, garlands, pictures and mirrors. There are dozens of rush, cane, ladder-back, embroidered and weaved chairs. Several areas are stocked with shelves of bygone dish patterns and vintage pottery. Almost every railing is draped with gorgeous quilts and blankets. The walls along the stairs are filled with game boards including Parcheesi, checkers and chess, Chinese checkers, backgammon and carrom. I have several of these in my home and I love them! The Glass cloches are quite a find and there is a section of garden décor as well! I love the looms and spindles and other antique machines and tools. Some of the prices are high, but others are reasonable for the age of the wares. The owners are quite nice and knowledgeable.
