A letdown in CDMX after a lovely experience in Paris I first tried Au Pied de Cochon in Paris and absolutely loved it, so when planning our trip to Mexico City, I was excited to discover they had a location here as well. My husband and I were really looking forward to dining there and creating another special memory in a different country. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to what I had hoped. The food wasn't quite to my liking--I had the foie gras, Chamorro, and a small salmon tasting, and none of the dishes really stood out. The chamorro, in particular, was underwhelming. The location and ambiance didn't quite resonate with me either. It wasn't a terrible experience by any means, but it also wasn't as memorable as I had hoped. read more

I had the privilege to live in the heart of Paris for nearly a year, and during that time I ate at "Au Pied de Cochon" ("the foot of the pig") as often as I could afford it. It is a beautiful old restaurant which looks far more elegant and stuffy than it really is. "Au Pied de Cochon" offers a traditional old style French Restaurant Menu, most famous for serving the 19th century favorite of a crispy meaty deep fried Pigs Foot (or Trotter as it's called in Britain). I had this dish only once, and it was delicious (although a bit dryer than a braised pig's foot in gravy, which I prefer). But during each visit here I tried to order something new and different. Once when I was taken out here we ordered the 'Grand Seafood Tower', which consisted of nearly an 'All-Raw' 3 story high platter of fresh seafood. There were Oysters, Clams, chilled steamed Mussels & Shrimp, Sea-Snails, small steamed Periwinkle Snails, and both a cold cooked Crab and a half of a chilled cooked North Atlantic Lobster. On another occasion I ordered the large Alsacian Choucroute for two (it is basically a mountain of sauerkraut piled high with sausages, cured meats, and liver dumplings): YUM! And another time I had blood-rare steak (blue) coated in green peppercorn sauce. I had other delicious meals here as well, but these three really stood out. The best thing about eating here was just being here. The service was impeccable, the decor was like stepping back in time, and all of the meals I ordered came to the table slowly as a multi-course feast, with Escargot to start, followed by Pate or a rich Bisques, then the mains - and finally a cheese plate followed by desert & coffee. Plus there was alcohol served constantly, from Pernod or Campari as my aperitif, followed by many bottles of wine, and ending with a cognac or a sweet liqueur. So as you can imagine, I either had to be taken here by someone else, or I had to save up for two months to come here. But EVERY PENNY SPENT and EVERY CALORIE CONSUMED was Well Worth It. read more

The location of this restaurant is right at the heart of the Polanco area. It's inside Intercontinental Presidente Mexico City. All of the visiting presidents from various countries have visited this hotel and the restaurant. Service is top notch as expected in the Mexico City. Food is great, busy with many locals as well as foreigners. Prices are not expensive at all. Everything we ordered was amazing. They goofed up one order but corrected without any issues. read more

We stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel and decided to dine in the hotel for Valentine's Day. We very rarely dine out on that night due to common issues people experience given the crowds. However, the food was delicious, the service very attentive but not intrusive, and they had a violinist playing music, amplified and a tad loud for the occasion, but it was fine as it added character tot he evening and pushed my rating up 1 star. Otherwise, too expensive a venue (more than NY/SF prices), even if most are that way in that area. But, I admit, it made for a memorable occasion read more

WARNING! I have to say that my experience was terrible, I ended up spending more on expenses at the hospital than on food. The food made me sick with Cholera. The oysters were not of good quality, they had Vibrio cholerae-- I went on Sunday afternoon, felt terrible by night, and during the early morning, I had fever, vomiting, and diarrhea (every 15 minutes). In the morning, the doctor had to come over because I couldn't move. He said it was a bacterial infection. He requested blood tests and a gastrointestinal panel. I went to get the tests done. With the results, the doctor informed me it was Vibrio cholerae due to bad oysters, checked for skin lesions/spots, and prescribed me two types of antibiotics. The service is excellent, and so is the ambiance. However, the food doesn't meet quality standards. Today, after 5 days of intestinal pain, dehydration, yellow skin, diarrhea, fever, chills, headache, and insomnia, I have to say that I'm disappointed that a restaurant with such prestige doesn't maintain its food quality standards, especially being in a hotel with so much international tourism. read more

I've had the pleasure of coming to this fine restaurant several times, across two trips to CDMX. The first time was last fall, whilst travelling to this great city with my partner at the time. The spur of the moment trip led us to this great restaurant, located in the first floor of Hotel Presidente Intercontinental. They are open 24 hours, which is great. My first meal here was at 3AM, when we got in town and settled into our room. I ordered am omelet plate, which was exquisite. Later that day, I ordered a grilled salmon plate with brown rice. The wait time to get my food was reasonable, and the food was cooked the perfection. It was both tasty and healthy, which is a win in my book. On my second trip to CDMX, I stayed in the same hotel, and received the same great service from this restaurant. I ordered the same omelet plate via room service, and the food did not disappoint. My friend ordered a beef bowl, which had juicy steak over a bed of rice and veggies. We shared a fruit plate, and had lemonade with club soda and cappuccinos to drink. Overall, this restaurant is amazing. Whether you chose to dine in their finely decorated restaurant, or order through room service, Au Pied de Cochon does not disappoint. read more

When you're hungry at anytime (24 hours, 365 days a year) Au Pied de Cochon is available to serve you. An upscale experience and truly a 5 star meal. My colleague and I were quickly seated and we began looking over the menu. We inquired about a wine list and a sommelier brought an iPad by with over 2200 wine varieties! We opted by the glass and they still offered over 200 vinos to choose from. My colleague chose a local red and I went with the Vino Blanco Gustave Lorentz Gewürztraminer Reserve, a delicious white. As we looked over the menu, the waiter brought by a complimentary plate of Pâté and an assorted bread basket with butter. My colleague ordered the Bavette skirt steak and I chose the 200 gram Filet Mignon accompanied with a bordelaise sauce, baked potato and bone marrow. The filet was very succulent and cooked medium to perfection. We both agreed we didn't have room for dessert but the waiter still brought a complimentary plate of goodies along with the check. After finishing work, I went back to my hotel where Au Pied de Cochon is located. My local colleague told me it's a nice restaurant. So I decided to give it a try before going home the next day. The menu is expansive. It took me a while to decide what to have. I ordered a salad with greens, raspberry and goat cheese. I told the waiter o didn't want cheese, but the salad came with goat cheese. To my surprise, the goat cheese was actually very nice! I ordered their speciality, pig foot with French fries. The dish was huge and it was hard to cut the foot. A waiter saw me struggle with cutting and volunteered to help me. He cut off some part of skin and meat for me. The rest of foot was placed in a small plate. The dish was good. I did like the taste of the pig foot with the sauce they served, but I was quite full with the goat cheese salad. I stopped eating and there was plenty of leftovers in the plate. Although I was full, I still ordered the Bonne Maman Apple tart with vanilla ice cream. I cleaned that dessert! Two bottles of water were a bit expensive, almost US$5. The total bill came under US$50, not bad for a high-end restaurant in Intercontinental Hotel. Servers were nice and attentive. Very chic restaurant! Ambiance is beautiful and it appears to be a 5 star restaurant. However, we had reservations at 10 am, weren't acknowledged by the hostess till at least 15 after 10. We were eventually seated. We sat at the table for over 10 minutes before a waiter came ask what beverages we wanted. We were never given a menu, had to ask for one. I ordered the eggs Benedict, when they arrived; the eggs were fully cooked. Because of the language barrier, I didn't say anything about the overly cooked eggs. I will say the juice is very fresh, I would recommend the papaya juice. read more

Open 24/7! What does that tell you? We stayed in the Intercontinental and were so spoiled to have this restaurant just downstairs! The first meal we had with a large group and I feel like I tasted everything on the menu. The ceviche, the tartare, the oysters, the risotto-everything was very good. We returned twice and were not disappointed. The restaurant is beautiful with an old-world Parisian feel. It's high energy and the wait staff is very attentive. If you want an intimate dinner for two or four, there are two booths by the entrance that are more quiet. They bring a petite plate of sweets at the end of your meal, including the petite pink pig meringue. Go, you'll enjoy it! read more

For us, this was not so great. The staff was polite. The French Onion soup was too salty. I was tired and it was our last evening in Mexico City. We do not speak Spanish, so I thought it might be nice to go somewhere where we could relax and avoid struggling so much linguistically. My husband and I had been talking about learning Spanish and this may have sealed the deal. I lived in Paris for a summer and have been to several French restaurants, and this ties with the worst French restaurant where I have ever eaten. Lesson for us: learn Spanish or the language of whatever country you're visiting and don't choose a restaurant based on just a few ratings and the fact that they speak your native language. Very okay. We had the French onion soup, fois gras, duck entrée, and the pied de cochon entree. Fois gras was good and everything else was okay. Atmosphere is kind of like an expensive Denny's. If there were zero stars, I'd have given it. One sentence: don't go! We ordered a bottle of wine, a half bottle ... for $100usd. It was so cold that 20 minutes later when our food started to arrive , the wine was too cold do drink. The sommelier agreed and took it away, the manager argued we should have said something when the sommelier opened it as opposed to him not noticing the frost on the bottle and taking it away. When the oysters came they looked good, we looked forward to steak tartare, ceviche and chocolate soufflé but never made it because the manager thought we should pay for the wine because we didn't say anything when the sommelier opened it. I ate at Au Pied de Cochon on Christmas Eve morning with a group of 8.  We were staying at the Intercontinental Presidente, and it's located on their main floor/lobby.  The service, as well as the food was outstanding.  They offer menus in English upon request.  The waiter started us off by serving a wide variety of pastry on the table.  My sister-in-law and I each ordered the French toast (pictured), which was outstanding.  The portions were very large and neither of us could finish our meal.  My husband ordered fruit along with eggs.  I ended up snagging some of his fruit because it was so fresh - you could view the chefs cutting it up behind the tables.  I'd certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area, especially if you're already staying in the hotel. read more

This place charges a cover for sitting down similar to going to a club where there's a DJ who plays music, but there's no DJ here and no dance music either. Other than that little surprise gift, the food was decent but generally oversalted. I had the seared foie gras to start and the red snapper as the main course. Both were good but nothing extraordinary. For dessert, we got the lemon sorbet (not great), the grand mariner soufflé (too foamy - I was probably expecting too much out of this place), and the creme brûlée (good). The good thing is that this place is opened on January 1st, when non-hotel restaurants are closed. read more

Service was excellent, bread was great so was the butter. It all stopped there. My salad, an endive and blue cheese salad with poached pears was not only overdressed but the pear was so sweet it seemed canned, overall making it difficult to eat. I also ordered a large shrimp cocktail, and received, small possibly previously frozen, cooked days before rubber shrimp that were not edible. Although they have an extensive wine list and conveniently located, there are so many other restaurants out there to try in Mexico City. I will say the staff graciously took off the cost of the shrimp and a glass of wine which was much appreciated. I think considering this restaurant is open 24 hours a more careful look at the quality of the food needs to be addressed. read more

No need to go to Paris. The Mexico City outpost of this famous restaurant is absolutely outstanding! It's located inside the Intercontinental Hotel in Polanco. I had the escargot, duck confit and chocolate mousse with a glass of wine and a cup of coffee...all for around $50USD. Service was very good - one or two tiny missteps, but overall very attentive and unobtrusive. I can't wait to return one day soon. read more

Beautiful, Pricey, Elegant! "The Pig's Foot" would be a competitive top-end restaurant in any city. Located in the hotel district of Polanco, this is a great stop after a concert at the Auditorio Nacional. The extensive wine collection makes the wine list is more like a wine book. read more

Not a great experience. I asked for filtered water (and my wife actually asked twice) and was brought bottled water - of course this costs more without a good reason. The heat in the area was so bad I was feeling sick, so I accepted the bottled water with ice since it was a very long wait just to get that. The prices were on the high side and I thought the food was mediocre. The onion soup was salty and the Lubina fish was okay but nothing special. I liked the mashed potatoes that came with the fish better than the fish itself. Something I highly disagreed with is being charged for "cubiertos" - or silverware. This is not standard practice in Mexico and what makes this worse is that they actually do offer you "free" bookmarks (promotional of course) and "free" small treats at the end. It's not free though, of course you already paid for it in the "cubiertos" charge. My wife and I were left with the impression that we were treated a bit snobbishly since we were dressed casually (in a so-called fancy restaurant). And my wife and I were actually staying in the high-priced hotel, which this restaurant is located within, so we expected better than this. read more
