This was one of the nicest hotels I have ever experienced. From the moment our car pulled up, the service was attentive and welcome. There were people immediately to take care of our luggage, and to wave us away when they said they would take care of the parking and any other logistics. Check-in was easy, and I was delighted to discover I had been given an upgraded room without making any request or having any particular status. The room was twice as large as most hotel rooms I've stayed at, with delightful views, a large and very comfortable bed, a couch and desk, and a style that was elegant without being stuffy. My fellow travelers had a room that was even more phenomenal because of the view it had over the water and the cruise ships that were coming and going. Hotel staff were always helpful with suggestions for places to go or neighborhoods where we'd find a selection of restaurants to eat at. In the evenings there is a small and comfortable area to order drinks and to listen to the guitarist or to simply sit and watch the fireplace. Although it is a high priced hotel, I would absolutely return. Its location is perfect. Walkable throughout the old town area and to the port. And its comfort and sense of quiet unpretentious luxury cannot be beat. read more

It was in researching hotels in Quebec that I found this one and also noticed that with the Amex platinum card you get the free breakfast and room upgrade etc. So I actually decided to get the Amex platinum just for this hotel. It did not disappoint. We got a room upgrade to a lovely view of the castle and it even had a balcony. The breakfast at Chez Muffy was exceptional...the first morning it was so good I deemed it the best breakfast of my life (over a 1/2 century of living too). The only minor complaint we had was that we arrived late and the bar was closed. We were a little hungry so the front desk receptionist offered us some snacks from the mini bar. We should have realized these snacks would be mini bar pricing even though he handed them to us from the reception desk. $26 of chips and pretzels showed up on the bill! Our mistake. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again though. The bed was comfortable. The shower great too. And the service was very friendly. read more

Great hotel in Quebec City. In the heart of the Old Quebec City and footsteps from all the the "touristy" shops and restaurants (a good thing). Wonderful restaurant (Chez Muffy) and bar (Artifact) connected to the restaurant. Breakfast was included with our booking and it was truly one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. We had a nice room facing the St. Lawrence river. The rooms were spacious and clean with a small fridge. We traveled with an 8 month old and they set us up with a sturdy crib and even a diaper genie. The staff was friendly and courteous. What really impressed us was that they were able to lend us an AC adapter compatible with my wife's breast pump (forgot to bring) that's not even sold in Canada. This saved us a trip to Canadian Tire / Best Buy. If I ever find myself in Quebec City again, I will definitely book a room at Auberge St. Antoine. read more

Here's a refined version: We arrived at the bar around 9:30 p.m., only to be informed that they'd be closing soon and wouldn't be serving shaken drinks. Given the restriction, I ordered a beer instead. Then, precisely at 10:24, I noticed the bartender preparing a shaken cocktail. When I glanced over, he was clearly using a shaker. What an elegant, cozy, magical place. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay right around Christmas, this is it. Fireplaces in the lobby and inside little nooks to relax in, delicious, abundant breakfasts every day till 1030am with tons of cheeses, French toast, croissants, eggs, bacons, and the best quiche ever. Decadent massages and such good steak, hot chcoolate, butternut squash soup and signature gin and tonics at Artefact. Every night, we'd lounge by the fireplace in our pajamas and play games. In the mornings, we head to breakfast in our pjs to the restaurant with it's stone walls and wide wood plank floors and water views. The location is quiet, off the path of the touristy area. Recommend walking by the icy water at night. The concierge recommendations (go to Rioux and Pettigrew for din!) were right on. Sad to leave, honestly, so you know it's 5 stars!!!! read more

The perfect location for a cozy and romantic getaway in Quebec City. Being inside old Quebec, you are just a step away from cobble stone streets and picturesque town that reminds me of being in Paris. The bed was comfortable and our room is stylish with lovely French windows. I wish I had more time here in Quebec City. It was truly magical! We felt the most comfortable staying here during our trip to Quebec City and Montreal. I did felt the service was a little lacking as we had to ask someone to help us with the luggages when we got here late around 9pm but being a 4+ star hotel, that is a little unfortunate. Excellent hotel. Immaculate rooms with excellent details. Nespresso machines, bottled water, robes, wonderful showers. The staff was also very well trained and friendly. One note the hotel does recommend taxis and we do not. If you can you should Uber. They can be as much as half the price. With Uber you know exactly how much the charge will be. With taxis the run the meter and if they take you on a circuitous route which dod happen you can double your rate. Also on the drive to the airport the taxis will try to run without the meter and they will over charge you a flat rate. Again take an Uber. read more

This is an experience of a lifetime and the perfect example of what happens when everything goes right in a business. The ambience, kindest staff and rooms with amenities that made you feel like the fanciest person alive, all made it an amazing trip. Even if we never left the room, the trip would have been awesome. A charming hotel, this was a splurge for us. We do stay in nice hotels but typically not something at this high of a price bracket. For one night and a check in for our daughter's eleventh birthday, it was a memorable experience. We would opt to stay here again if visiting the city. I was fascinated with the history of the property with stone walls from the old warehouse in the rooms and artifacts throughout (in the desk and outside each room) as other reviewers have noted. Our king room was spacious and had a view of the river. The street this hotel is on is quite busy so ironically would probably avoid a view room next time since couldn't open the balcony with the noise. I loved the little attention to detail.. from a cake waiting in our room for our daughter's birthday celebration, to little red teddy bears for the children left during turndown service, to the ironing board built into the armoire. We continued our day of splurging by eating at Chez Muffy--yet another memorable experience--so convenient to head for dinner without leaving the hotel. Really a wonderful visit! read more

Outstanding hotel, restaurant and service. We stayed in a terrace room with views of Quebec's fortifications and city sights. Everything in the room was well done and so comfortable. As a note, we chose the Auberge over the Hotel Frontenac because when we visited it we saw that the Frontenac is a sightseeing/heavy tourist hotel where non-guests roaming the public areas of the hotel outnumber the hotel guests. The Frontenac is more for the mass of tourists that come to Quebec, and the prices are higher as a result, while the Auberge is subtle, sophisticated and much more private. The Auberge was an easy choice for us. read more

There are a couple restaurants inside the hotel. We are at one of them. The concierge desk was super helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations for other nearby places as well. I am perplexed by the consecutive 5-star reviews for this hotel. This is aside from the unique circumstances during our stay. Perhaps take this review with a grain of salt, as we did spend a night at the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac prior to our stay here at the Auberge. The first 5 minutes of our 2-day stay involved a rude staff member that denied me and my wife entry to the lounge to get a cup of hot chocolate while our room was still getting ready, insisting that the dining area consisting of 6 patrons was fully reserved. This pretty much teed off two days of disappointment and frustration. During our stay the power was limited to non-existent. This was quite the surprise as we had just checked out from the Fairmont and experienced absolutely no disruption. Initially when we checked in some amenities were partially functional. A few hours later - no hot water, no hot showers, no heater, no working outlets to charge our phones, no working elevators, pitch black in our room, pitch black walking down a long flight of stairs to once again confront the front desk when we could not sleep due to alarms going off in our room past midnight. "I don't hear anything" she said, as if to gaslight us into thinking we're the odd ones for making a complaint, right on cue with the constant redirection and unapologetic response we received from staff every time we asked for an update. The next day, we intentionally stayed out as long as we could to avoid the lousy experience we were having at the hotel. We called in early evening to get a status update and the power was still not back and we were advised not to come back. When we returned to the hotel later that night, it was eerily quiet. As we were passing by the front desk I facetiously made a comment that all the hotel guests must've been fed up and left. Apparently, the hotel was indeed empty - the hotel began evacuating guests to the Fairmont earlier in the afternoon. Awesome, but why were we the last ones to find out? Why were we not notified earlier? What if I had not stopped by the front desk? We were transferred to the Fairmont hotel so late that all we could do was take a long overdue hot shower and head to bed early for an early flight the next morning. When we checked out the next day, we assumed we would not have to pay given that we had already paid for two nights at the Auberge. To our surprise, we ended up having to pay. I called the Auberge to ask for clarification, and while they did clarify there would be a reimbursement, that call ended up with someone hanging up on me. As someone who has had many experiences in retail and customer service, I try my best to be patient and understanding knowing that it's not easy in the service industry, particularly in difficult circumstances. However, what disappoints me the most is the poor response and attitude from staff and the lack of communication. The responses would always be so vague and unapologetic. We never knew what was going on. We were always kept in the dark, metaphorically and literally. Their response to power being out was free hot chocolate and coffee in the lobby. At some point I even felt guilty about asking if the power was back on. I know we were not alone in our sentiment, as we had sympathized with several neighbors/guests during our stay there who had experienced just the same, including one party just checking in that crashed their car in the parking garage due to low visibility and no attendants. After multiple conversations with American Express and the hotel management, we did receive a refund for one night of our two-night stay. It would've been nice if hotel management had transferred us earlier to the Fairmont so that we could actually enjoy what we paid for. My experience here has shown me that there is a clear difference between a 4-star and 5-star hotel; given that this hotel is similar in price to the Fairmont, I don't see why you wouldn't just stay there. Room and location aside, this in my opinion feels more like a 3-star hotel. Experience aside, I do like the rooms itself, particularly the modern and clean look, along with the hardwood floors. The lobby of the hotel leaves much to be desired, particularly when you compare it to the Fairmont, but the restaurant attached is beautifully cozy. The orange juice was quite memorable. I suppose that was the favorite part of my stay here, the orange juice. To the staff member that drove us to the hotel - thank you for all your hard work, for being so real and kind to us during the transition. If everyone else treated us with the same honesty and respect in light of the circumstance the rating would not be this low. TLDR: No electricity for two days, no hot water/showers, alarms going off, lack of communication from the hotel, poor response from staff. Stay at the Fairmont, your experience in whole will be so much more enjoyable and memorable. read more

It is difficult to agree with the rating of Auberge. My standards for a five star hotel are quite high. Let's start with fact there is a very limited room service. Definitely not 24 hour. Our first room, yes we had to change, was very dark and dreary. The walls are painted a dark blue that made the room even smaller. The bathroom was very small. We did get moved to a jr suite the next night and it was delightful. Using a platinum Amex card is supposed to get you and upgrade upon arrival along with some welcome gift. Neither were offered. The view from our second room was amazing. Looking up at the Chateau. We were traveling with another couple celebrating their anniversary and the hotel failed to acknowledge it. We had just spent 4 days at the Ritz in Montreal where we were treated like royalty. Chocolates and champagne were waiting to enjoy with our friends fir the special day. Breakfast was very nice. It was average with a modest selection of pastries. The cold buffet had chopped up fruit no berries. Cold meats and cheese. There was granola and yogurt as well. The selections from the menu were quite good. The only complaint here was the service. It was very sporadic. Most of the time we were waiting for coffee or water. I enjoyed the gym and sauna area. There is no steam or pool. The location of Auberge is very good. Many restaurants close by and a short walk to the old city. Fir all these reasons I think the hotel is average. If you get the Jr suite you will not be disappointed. One last thing was the fireplace in our room did not work so we were unable to enjoy that. Here at Auberge Saint-Antoine for a 4 night stay whilst exploring Quebec City. The hotel is very comfortable and charming, the staff all very helpful and the amenities first class. The is an excellent restaurant and lobby bar. The hotel is located in historic Old Quebec City and is in walking distance of many wonderful historic buildings, restaurants, craft stores, art galleries and antique stores. Valet parking is quick and easy if you travelled by car. Although once here I didn't need the car for local use. It is a pleasure to walk around the city, or use Uber. Really enjoyed my stay at this place. I booked it through the Fine Hotel Collection through my Amex Platinum card (if you have the card -- use it because it comes with a lot of benefits you can use at the hotel). Hotel is conveniently located in Vieux Quebec -- short walk from the Funiculaire and Quartier Petit Champlain. All the staff were extremely helpful. The concierge was an added perk that I would definitely recommend taking advantage of. I was able to text with them the week leading up to and during the trip to arrange spa / dinner reservations and even getting a COVID test to travel right in the hotel room. The hotel has Bar Artefact which is a nice little cocktail bar and an attached restaurant (Chez Muffy) that was also good. The room itself was beautiful and I loved the bed sheets. My only complaint is I wish they had a hot tub / pool on site. Otherwise really enjoyed it and would easily stay here again in the future. read more

The hotel is upscale yet not preppy! The service is world class and the staff truly attempts to help you with your every request! The bar is cool and laid back with a good selection of music and fun atmosphere! They also have two cozy rooms next to a fire pit facing a huge window overlooking the snow falling outside! The restaurant is AMAZING! The atmosphere is fancy but not snobby and the food is absolutely incredible!!! Worth the price!! Service is, again, their specialty! Towards the end of our stay, we decided to stay a couple of extra days and the staff stated "Since you've enjoyed staying with us so much, we are going to upgrade you to the river view room and king size bed for the last two nights!" ... Yep, I'll gladly add my 5 star review to the chorus. I mean this is elegant, intelligent, classy, and friendly en plus. From the moment you walk in its all fireplace and calm, smiling faces. The halls and rooms are decorated with archaeological treasures from a Quebec of many hundreds of years ago, accented with modern art and furniture - but like, comfortable modern, not try-hard modern. (Ok, except for the leopard print lamp on the tables in the bar. Cheap looking and literally blocking my view of a collection of 300 year old perfume bottles. Whoever put that lamp there should be banned from putting lamps places.) But the bar is otherwise beautiful with an excellent collection of whiskeys and scotch, knowledgeable and dapper staff, huge comfortable chairs, fire flickering in corners tucked behind huge sweeping red velvet curtains. My room is expansively spacious with a big desk, sitting chair, huge window, big bed with comfy backboard, coffee area... I could go on. But let's talk about the bathroom. Huge immaculate deep square bathtub that fills up fast and hot, with a rain spout and hand held shower head all separately controlled - none of this business with 6 jets suddenly shooting you in the face and pummeling your torso. Beautiful products and robes, brand new slippers but you don't really need them because heated floors!! Need I say more? read more

If you're looking for a hotel experience that surpasses nearly anything else this beautiful city has to offer, book a room or three at Auberge St-Antoine. I stayed at the hotel for a week and I switched rooms twice due to extenuating circumstances, but every day this place continued to impress me. Staff here even accommodated my embarrassing attempts to communicate in French by slowly speaking to me without seeming patronizing in the least. Every room has a Nespresso machine, which tops any hotel coffee I've had. I stayed in two of the theme rooms as well as a standard room, which turned out to be my favorite. Luxury isn't vulgarly thrown in your face here, it's subtly worked into the details. One of my favorite parts of staying here was returning to my room after a turn down; they leave classical music playing for you. The artifacts used throughout the building are really fascinating - little personal touches of history that help illustrate the rich cultural heritage of this part of the city. The gym and amenities here are also really beautiful. Everything is spotless yet inviting. There is a rustic theme throughout the hotel that feels refined yet inviting. This review is for the outstanding service Mary Lu and I received during our pre-wedding meet-and-greet held in Hall Explore of Auberge Saint-Antoine. A meet-and-greet you say? And not a rehearsal dinner? The way we saw it, friends of ours from all across the United States would be decending upon Québec for our wedding. To hold a rehearsal dinner for the wedding party at the exclusion of other guests would have been thoughtless. And holding a true party just the day prior to the wedding might prove foolhardy, since we know how these events oftentimes play out. So we held our event the Thursday prior to the wedding, where guests could meet, greet, fight, and ... romance with ample time for hangovers and swelling (from any sordid cause) to go away. Hall Explore, located in the front of Auberge Saint-Antoine, was the ideal venue for our 30 odd guests (Take that any way you wish!) but could comfortably handle up to maybe 50. Lots of room to roam, with plenty of lounge seating and direct access to an outdoor patio. I have uploaded 3 photos of the space. Working with Chloé Demers was an absolute delight as she made everything, from the planning paperwork to the service to the billing go seamlessly. An extensive selection of top shelf beer, wine, and spirits was available to stock the bar, and the bar service itself was most attentive. (The bartender even went on the hunt for a specific bourbon upon receiving a request for it.) The selection of hors-d'oeuvre to choose from was staggering and it was difficult to narrow it down to some certain crowd pleasers, but we selected the following: Beef Tartar with Mustard and Parmesan Button Mushroom with Foie Gras Duxelle Blue Cheese and Pear Tatin Tart Mini Quiche with Bacon, Leek and Cheddar Duck Confit Doughnut (The biggest hit of the night!) Smoked Salmon with Horseradish and Dill Cream served in Buckwheat Blinis Foie Gras Torchon on Homemade Brioche Bun Maple Lacquered Beef Tataki Beef Sliders with Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato and Ile-aux-Grues Cheddar Cheese Seasonal Fruit Crème Brûlée Mini Macarons What's not to like? And when some (very) late arrivals showed up after the food was gone, the Auberge sprang into action and provided our guests with their selections from the bar menu. Very thoughtful! The pricing for the hors-d'oeuvre was reasonable given the quality, at about $3 a pop. The bar pricing was on the high side of what I'm used to, but the offerings were of the highest calibre so no complaints there. Of all the hotels I've stayed in the world, from the Four Seasons in Manhattan to a government-run hotel in Noginsk, Russia (as bad as it sounds), Auberge Saint-Antoine is now my favorite. It's an amazing hotel, but what I like most about it is how unique it is. It's built around its history, literally on top of it, but the old stone city walls run through the lobby, bar and into the exercise room. Each guest room tells a story and has artifacts uncovered during the building of the hotel. The service is the best I've ever encountered in a hotel, from multi-lingual service, remembering our names and greeting us each time we passed through the lobby, their excellent knowledge of the local area and its history, and the chocolates and classical music in our room each night. We stayed here for our honeymoon and two different nights, they left little gifts to say congratulations. It's in a great location in the lower town, it doesn't offer you the expansive views that the Frontenac does, but it's not nearly so opulent, either. It's much more personal. I would stay here again if I ever came to Quebec City. The only downside is if you're staying here for a few days (like we did), and you're walking around town, it does get annoying walking up and down those hills constantly. But you can always get a taxi. read more

The table was filled with important people but most importantly, our glasses were filled with wine and our tummies filled with food. I chose the seared steak carpaccio with mini mushrooms and radishes as the apetizer, followed by a creamy soup, a deliciously cooked duck breast and finally a raspberry-themed dessert. Funnily enough, I learned that me and Tom have the same apetite and ordered exactly the same dishes. This hotel is so awesome. I love how this hotel is focused on customer service. They are all very helpful. It isn't a huge hotel but it has everything it needs. It has some artifacts in every room which is different for all rooms. The heated floor in the bathroom is very nice and the showers were excellent. I really enjoyed having the nespresso machine and a kettle in the room so I could get my coffee and tea fix. The location in my opinion was actually very good. I was able to visit all the must see tourist attractions by walking. I would stay at this hotel anytime I come back to Quebec City. The concierge was great and recommended me many good places to eat. It is easy to recommend the Auberge Saint-Antoine. It is a comfortable, quiet, upscale inn that delivers what you expect for the price. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and comfortable. I was worried the bed was too soft, but we slept very well. The bathroom is enormous and offers a walk-in shower, bathtub and separate water closet for the toilet. The front desk, concierge desk, and restaurants are staffed with professional and helpful people. The location is quite nice, if you want to stay in a location that is close to but not in the midst of the Old Quebec tourist areas. The hotel is a couple of blocks away from Place Royale and the Quartier Petit Champlain in Old Quebec. This neighborhood is nestled at the base of the cliff below the Hotel Frontenac and offers plenty of cafes, bistros, and shops in charming centuries-old buildings. This area is a bit quieter than the Old Quebec neighborhood at the top of the cliff, which is teaming with tourists. From the hotel, you can walk five or six blocks to get to Quebec funiculaire (a diagonal elevator that will take you to the top for C$3) or you can climb the steps to the top, if you're hardy. You will also find the busier Rue du Petit-Champlain the same distance away, offering shopping, street performers, and food options without needing to visit the upper city. The hotel is new but respects the history of the area. It is built atop the city's 18th-Century port, and throughout the hotel, you will find small portions of history on display. Each room number in the hallways has a tiny fragment of this history, such as a portion of a centuries-old plate, a piece of flatware, or a portion of pipe. In fact, they even brought this into the rooms--our room had a tiny fragment of an 18th-Century bathtub encased in glass embedded into our desk. The hotel is exceptionally clean. Each room has a Nespresso machine. And the honor bar in rooms is more reasonably priced than many other upscale hotels in which I've stayed. If your bellhop offers to give you a tour of the room, you may want to take it. It took us some time to figure out the temperature control in our shower. (One minor complaint about the hotel is that it took minutes for hot water to arrive at our shower, so my advice to you is to NOT adjust the temperature until you've let the shower run for two minutes. Chances are, the prior guest has the temperature set where you'd like it, and there's no need for you to adjust the temperature, which involves pulling out a knob, twisting it, and squeezing a trigger. Long awaited review and a perfect Escape for the winter or summer. Undeniably five star service, provided by all the staff and especially the concierge. Extremely knowledgeable concierge directed us too some of the most lovely restaurants in the city better than what you could find on Yelp (sorry yelp.. but i yelped them after! And put them on the map). Theres one secret spot.. may have to keep them a secret because they were so delightful ughhhhh.. Also, They painstakingly run out to get you at your car in the snow or rain with an Umbrella, and help you in. The ambiance of the lobby sets the stage for the beautiful rooms above and the amazing views they have to offer. I would highly suggest you get select a room with a terrace and view. Definitely pay the little extra dollars for this room... it is well worth it especially when you can have a view of the St. Lawrence River. Downstairs there is a wine reception in the evenings and it's absolutely lovely. They have everything from beef tartare, Specialty cheeses, charcuterie and a variety of wines to quote unquote taste! I cannot wait to return to the Auberge.. The location is a little bit off the beaten path looking at the Saint Lawrence. Beautifully terraced below the Chateau Frontenac. read more

Best hotel we've stayed at and there is not a close second. My wife and I are big Atlanta United supporters and we asked the staff about a bar we could possibly find the match at but they said they would be happy to allow us to watch it in their movie theatre. They definitely went above and beyond for us and seemed happy to do so. The location and room were fantastic as well. read more

Probably the finest hotel that I have ever stayed in. Excellent from top to bottom. Staff was super friendly and incredibly helpful, from the doormen to the front desk, to Chez Muffy, to the concierge. They helped with directions and advice. There's even a 90-person movie theatre where they will put a movie on for you and your family to watch! Beds were comfortable, bathrooms terrific with lots of towels, separate shower and tub, heated floors, and heated towel racks. We were very pleased. Prices were even reasonable (compared to NYC or Boston). We'll be back. read more

Beautiful Hotel! The best hotel I have ever stayed at. Comfy bed, huge tub, shower was so nice, heated tiles, nice storage for luggage, etc. The staff made us feel like VIPs. So helpful, professional and friendly. Do yourself a favor and stay here when you are in the area. Also checkout their restaurant, Panache. We had breakfast there twice. Soooooo GOOD! read more
