The hotel at first glance is beautiful. The restaurant and the desk staff are nice. However, I have to express a few concerns about the rooms. First and foremost, its important to note that they allow dogs here and our room upon entry smelled like dog. The second concern was the wimpering of a neighbor's dog when we came home later one night. The biggest concern were the beds. There is no back support. I did ask for another room upon check-in and was told all the beds were the same and there were no other rooms. Thankfully my partner had the bright idea to use the comforter to fill in the gap and I was able to sleep with minimal back problems. We purchased this hotel through a package deal with Travelocity. Once we arrived from the airport, the front desk staff was super friendly. The check-in process was effortless and they provided suggestions on tours and restaurants. There were brochures available at the front desk as well. Originally, before we arrived, I exchanged many emails with two of the staff through the Travelocity app; they were very thorough and prompt when responding. The daytime staff were more knowledgeable about the area and tours; unfortunately, the night staff, not so much. Julie helped us book the two bus tours and she ensured it was charged correctly. The room itself was spacious and just amazing. There was a CD player that was play some sorta music when we first walked in. The kitchen/bar area included pots/pans, a coffeemaker, stove and microwave, etc. This definitely made it easier for us to stock up on pastries and heat them. The fridge was too cold and turned the water to ice though. The bed was comfortable and sheets were clean. The TV only had a few English channel, so we we watched TLC every night. The bathroom had some sort of awful moldy/mildew smell. I couldn't figure out if it was the shower curtain or the cloth they use for cleaning. Another thing I noticed was there were a lot of randomly placed lights, but there wasn't enough central lighting. The hotel is located very close to the water. There are many restaurants and cafes near the hotel. It was easy to just wander around the area and not get lost. The VIA rail station was within walking distance, as was the tour bus pickup stop. The only think I did not like was having to be in a separate building that did not have the restaurant onsite or the concierge, it was across the street but in the rain it's not the best. The room was very nice, large modern bathroom, spacious studio room which fridge, two burner stove, microwave and utensils. The towels were a bit hard that was the only disappointment. You have to let them know if you want housekeeping services as they do not come daily. I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area. read more

I thought this place was great! Everything was updated and clean. The staff was very nice. I also could not hear a peep from the rooms beside mine so the sound insulation is great. The only positive about this hotel is the location. Our room looked over a gas station with vagrants hanging out front. The room looked like a 1990s corporate housing offering for a company you wouldn't want to work for. The bed springs literally poking me in the back all night. The bathroom was less than clean. The entire place has a creepy vibe down to the front desk staff whom act like they know they are selling you a bad used car. The valet guy was very nice but was giving us the look from the move 'Get Out.' We literally checked out after our first night and found an amazing hotel down the street with full amenities, updated accommodations and clean room for less the price. My recommendation is do not stay here. read more

We visited Quebec City in May and primarily chose this hotel for it's proximity to the historic areas/shopping/tourism/Chateau etc. The final selling point was the parking. We wanted somewhere we could just park the car (without it being miles away in a 3rd party car park) and walk everywhere for our 3 day visit. Job done. The parking out front is valet (and they do move the cars around if they need to) but you can still get to your vehicle if you've left something in it (guilty as charged). The hotel was perfect. Check in was friendly and quick. Daniel (the valet) helped us get all our bags on the luggage cart and brought it up for us. The room was lovely, bright, clean and modern. It was a bit oddly shaped, but guessing that was just them trying to fit everything in an old building and didn't detract from the amenities or the size of the main bedroom at all. We had a small kitchenette with a fridge, microwave and stove-top (no regular oven). There was a kettle, a Keurig coffee maker and the cutlery and crockery you'd need to make small meals. You might bring some pods of your own if you have a preference and want more than one cup each day. The pods are generic and they only left us a couple. I was a bit worried when we first got to the room as our room was literally wrapped around the lift shaft and I thought we might a) hear the lift coming up and down all day/night, and/or b) hear everyone going and coming in/out of the lift all day/night. We actually heard neither. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Overall I was very satisfied with this hotel. It's very close to the main tourist area of "Old Quebec" and the rooms are very nicely appointed. It's obvious they have been renovated not long ago. Speakers in the ceilings were pumping out classical music when we entered our room. There's a nice kitchen area, and the queen size bed and sofa bed worked well for our family, though the bathroom was somewhat small, though all the appliances and decorations in the room appeared new. The view was great from our room and was facing a nearby statue and fountain, and the main square nearby was nice. The sound is kept to a minimum in the room thanks to very thick walls, and double-paned windows. The staff was superb and incredibly helpful. Our friends stayed in a room down the hall, which was a little smaller, and didn't have the nice views and stereo system, so I highly recommend asking for the view toward the main square if you can get it. I would have probably rated this place a 4.5 stars if possible, but for the cost, which was reasonable, the location, and the friendly staff, 5 stars seemed more fitting than 4. I would stay here again when I'm back in Quebec. read more

Spent two night here in July of 18. The rooms are small as to be expected in a old town historic area. The floors have steps in them so if you are tying to move your luggage from the elevator to your room it can be difficult. We saw a family really struggling with the luggage cart. Our room was reasonably clean and had a nice little kitchen area. The bad stuff was that the door to the bathroom wouldn't close all the way. I guess the building had shifted so the door simply could never close, so at best there was an inch or two open at a minimum. The Wifi was really bad too. It would drop out frequently and when there was a signal it was super slow. The hotel is billed as a 4 star and I would give it 3 stars on a good day. I get it that it's in a historic area but they need to do some simple upkeep and the hotel could be a 3.5 or maybe 4 star. read more

I will start with the positives. The hotel was in a great location. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were a very nice size albeit a bit tired. The restaurant attached is not run by the hotel but has very good food and reasonable drink prices. Really my only negative comment would be the about the people they have cleaning the rooms. The day we checked in we went to reception before we took off for the afternoon to tell them our bathroom was not very clean. They apologized and said they would have it taken care of while we were gone. When we returned they had cleaned the toothpaste off the sink and counter but had not cleaned the floors which were of our biggest concern. We were there 3 nights and the floors were never cleaned. I will give this hotel a 2 star review as they are not an inexpensive what they claim to be 4 star hotel. A great location with friendly staff but the cleanliness and bordering on tired interior was not worth the price. To the hotel staff, this is room 105. It needs a serious cleaning! read more

Work booked me here. The location was really great. It was very close (a block) from where I was working and was at the bottom of the cliff below Vieux Quebec. The room was comfortable and clean which is always the main criteria. The room had a fridge and a microwave. The staff was very helpful. I was going to have to stay an extra night because something at work got messed up. I needed to book an extra night, but they were full. The woman at the front desk gave me several numbers of hotels in the area and let me use the computer to email some various people and look for hotels (as everything in the area was booked). While I was calling around, they had a cancellation for a suite that was 199 for the night. The suite was HUGE and had a full kitchen, a giant dining area, a living room with 2 couches, a king bed and a big bathroom. I thought that was a really good deal. In the end, I didn't have to stay an extra night and they didn't charge me at all for the 4 hours my suitcase enjoyed the suite. I figured they would have charged me something so that was cool. read more

When my partner and I were looking for a romantic getaway to celebrate our fifth anniversary we stumbled across the Hôtel Port-Royal located in Québec Lower Town (Basse-ville) it was definitely the right choice. Exposed brick or stone walls everywhere; they've done a great job at conserving a historical authentic feel to the place while providing modern hospitality. The service is great and very efficient and the staff fully bilingual which is great for my partner who speak only English. Heart-shaped dove made of towels were placed on the bed alongside rose petals, a box of chocolates and a handwritten note; they also had the radio on playing soothing classical music which provided a very romantic and magical experience. The large walking shower and heated floors in the bathroom are also a nice luxury/modern touch while keeping that ancestral feeling to the place. Its location makes it a perfect spot for strolling around Old-Quebec, everything is walking distance. We're definitely looking at visiting it again in the near future and who knows, maybe making it a yearly tradition. read more

I had the best vacation, and Hotel Port-Royal was a big part of that. The rooms are adorable and stocked with everything you would need. The temperature was perfect they have heaters for the cold and air condition for those who run warm. So clean! They have hard wood floors,so you cannot hide the dirt and there was none. Water pressure was perfect with nice hot water, and a nice deep bathtub for bathers. Staff- helpful and friendly; cannot ask for more. Loved it! Loved Quebec! Book your trip soon! read more

The place is interesting, close to the old part of Quebec, and clean. The bar was nice and the food in the restaurant was tasty. Why only a 3-star? The noise. Our room, 103, is directly above the entrance, near the elevator and directly across from the room the maid items are stored in. We've had people yelling in the halls, kids screaming and running around until almost midnight, the maids banging early in the morning, and now something is wrong with the main front door so any time it's used it bangs hard, which we can hear and feel in our room. The room is a great room which would have gotten a 5 except for the noise. read more

It was great! Modern decor with old world charm! The location is FABULOUS! The cruise port is directly across the street! Within walking distance to the train station too! We didn't need a care when staying there, we walked EVERYWHERE! The room was super roomy, the bed comfy, the bathroom was large....it was GREAT! My only issue was the hallways from reception to the rooms! They were weird! Walking along the hallway, suddenly there's a mini ramp and you can't tell it's there with the grey stripey carpet! Luckily, as we were going up the elevator another guest warned me about it, so you have to be super careful! Otherwise it was a great stay! read more

Great location even though outside 'the wall'. In upper end area with great restaurants all around and a 5 min uphill stroll through great streets to the middle of the tourist area. Staff were very good. We had two minor problems which were immediately fixed with extras given to compensate. Stayed here for Easter weekend. The hotel is lovely, is near the edge of old Quebec and is walking distance to old Quebec. Our room was in the corner near the the gas station and was really quiet except for one or two cars that drive by revving their engine at night. Curtains blocked out the lights at night which is terrific. Our queen (?) size bed was really comfortable. There was also a sofabed. My husband and I have a king size bed at home and the bed here was alot bigger than our bed. There was a kitchenette and a mini fridge in our room with a Keurig coffee maker. The bathroom was a nice size. It was very clean and my husband loved it because of the heated floor. We would definitely book this hotel again when we come to visit. Parking is $25 per day and pets are welcome for $25 per pet per night. The only con is everything closes before 11pm so if you want a midnight snack, you have to get delivery from a pizza place. read more

This is a lovely spot and very convenient to the waterfront where our daughter was on a ship during Rendezvous 2017. The room was an interesting combination of old (brick and rock) and modern - comfy (and large) bed as well as pull out sofa, work desk, breakfast table and a little kitchenette. I had booked a reservation for a Deluxe Premier suite for the evening of Friday, Feb. 12. The hotel did not have my reservation on file when I checked in. I had to pull up my confirmation and email it to the front desk attendant. He told me the hotel was completely sold out and that they would have to find my friend and I different accommodations. This was Valentine's Day weekend and most hotels were already sold out and the temperature out side was a balmy -12 Degrees Fahrenheit. It was a stressful situation since it was already going on 9:00p by the time the attendant found us different accommodations. When we arrived at the second hotel, it turned out that there was a miscommunication and they only had one queen size bed for my friend and I to share which was not alright with my friend, and since I originally booked for a 2 bed room suite. Since we were now going on 10:00p and I figured it was more important at this point to get a good night's sleep, we asked to be moved to a different hotel that could accommodate us properly. By the time we reached our hotel that we stayed at, it was going on 10:30p and too late to go out for dinner and experience the city at night. Our check out the next day was at 12p, so basically our 1 night in Quebec City (a life long bucket list item of mine) was a complete wash. I would recommend that anyone booking with this hotel double/triple check that they have the reservation on file, especially if you plan to visit during winter, so that you are not potentially stranded in a blizzard. read more
