This is like an airport except it's in Auburn and stuff. Municipal like. It has a runway. Planes…read moretake off here. Land here too....get out, right? Sometimes they circle. In circles. Some of 'em are runnin flowmasters dual thrush or something maybe rolling coal with straight stacks (but that would be kinda heavy, not very aerodynamic - or simply dynamic because the aero is implied - friendly and counterintuitive to the generally accepted principals of lift but since this is my review and it's in Auburn I'm including it for just the possibilities which if one thinks about it are really overwhelming. Helicopters fly here but they don't use the runway so remember to look both ways up and down as they sorta just plop vs extended and graceful show off floating just above the surly bonds. Of Auburn. But first the helicopters do their jump-float-plop thing over the greens because poor people are always doing, you know, nasty poor people things like living. Plus they don't complain like Mrs. Betty Bowers at Winchester Country Club Estates Phase II so don't make her illegal cleaning chick late with any of your ICE raids. It's the annual Junior League Baptists with Bullets fundraiser and her patio furniture better be dusted proper. Got it at Costco but the driver sullied it so chop chop hella cop don't spoil it. All in all a cool airport. Planes land there. Man, what next...people in tubes zipping around like your drivers license and two non-functional pens at the bank drive thru?? What a world. Is there one beyond Auburn? Best not find out it could be an abyss. With poor people.

The security line was super short and we got through in 5 minutes. You no longer have to take your shoes off when you go through security which is really nice! If you're wearing a sweatshirt, and have shirt on underneath they will ask if you're comfortable removing it. After making it through I was very surprised to see all of the food choices have changed and 100% for the better! I grabbed a coffee at temple which I thought would eat some spare time but the whole process was surprisingly quick. You order and pay at the kiosks up front which helps the like go quickly. Then once your order is ready your name is called out. I think I only waited a total of 10 minutes! The one thing I will say is that sometimes they don't call names out very loudly so you have to stand close.

With that being said, they are making changes to the airport to expand it and hopefully improve it even more, but there are fears that with growth there will be some hurdles and drawbacks. For now, they have made some fun changes including many local businesses being featured in Terminals A and B. I love that they're sharing local flavors with the people passing through our airport and highlighting some of the cool places in our city. From our trips the airport is easy to arrive to, pick others up from, check into flights and navigate, they offer some decent food and drink options, and have a good amount of seating for those waiting on their flights. They also fly to a good amount of places with non-stop or connecting flights. Security is typically very efficient and we always arrive early for our flights and find ourselves with plenty of time ahead of takeoff to visit the restroom, pick up some bites or sips, and walk around. Baggage claim is also pretty straight forward and we've never had a problem picking up luggage after a trip and getting picked up or requesting a ride from Uber/Lyft. This airport is one of the more comfortable and easy to navigate airports that we've been through.

Landing was a bit tricky since the the common use runway (19) has a 18 degree uphill slope. Once on the ground, I found the parking had plenty of tie down chains for aircraft. The grounds, taxiway and runway also seemed to be very well maintained and manicured. Thank you Dave Sheppard for that. The airport doesn't have a FBO per-say but, there is an indoor business center that host a flight school, clean restrooms, a sitting area and a decent soda machine. Fuel prices on Sunday were $5.30 a gallon for 100LL which was great. There's also a nice grass area with three large picnic tables just outside the business centers doors which can easily accommodate 30 persons. If your ever in the mood for some really good pizza. I recommend flying into Westover and ordering from a place called Pizza Plus which is located about two miles away in Sutter Creek (http://www.yelp.com/biz/pizza-plus-sutter-creek). They will deliver to the airport at no extra charge and the pizza is amazingly good. Thanks Noel (Pizza Plus Manager) for taking the time to accommodate our group. If you plan on visiting the airport and having pizza for lunch at Pizza Plus, I'd suggest (if you have a bluetooth headset) calling in your order about 20 NM before you land. Good pizza takes a minute but, great pizza, especially if it's delivered takes forever.

My son has flown in here and in taking off and landing with him flying I did sort of question the location a bit. Unfortunately the landing strip is very near a main road and I've noticed several times coming down that road in cars when a plane is landing can be something of a harrowing experience. Aside from that, and though it has very few amenities, it has many fans here in Amador County, and I guess I'm one although I'd like to see it in a different location, not surrounded by the largest stores in the county.
