There was no sign that smoked meat had been used to season them, and they tasted more like they came straight from a can. My parents are from the South, so I grew up around soul food, and this just wasn't the kind of flavor I'm used to. I know taste is personal and maybe others enjoy it, but for me it didn't bring back that nostalgic, home-cooked soul food experience I was hoping for.
