The owner is so generous and loving and you can tell that this is a genuine passion of hers. Whether you preorder, go in and sit or take away you will have a great experience. I recently learned that if you put in a pre-order and the shop closes early, you can still pick your pre-order up at the candy store ( BouNom Emporium) across the way. First off, it's definitely one of those small, tucked-away spots you could easily miss if you didn't know it was there, but once you walk in, the decor is so cute. Think cozy, shabby chic vibes that make it feel warm and welcoming right away. The standout for me? The dinner roll. Honestly, one of the best I've ever had. It was dense, rich, and satisfying, not your typical light, airy Kaiser roll. It reminded me more of a Jamaican hard dough bread in texture and weight, which I personally loved. Super flavorful and filling. I was also really happy about their buy three, get one free promotion. It made it easy to try a few different things without feeling like I was overdoing it. As for the pastries, I tried the cinnamon roll and carrot cake. I didn't finish either, but the carrot cake definitely gave true homemade vibes. It had coconut mixed in, wasn't overly sweet, and felt more traditional than indulgent. If you like a less sugary, more classic-style carrot cake, you'll probably appreciate it. Overall, this bakery is worth a stop, especially if you're exploring the pastry trail. Not everything wowed me, but there were definitely some highlights that made it a good visit.

"They're twisting in New York In old Chicago town…read moreIn Hartford and Frisco They all go round and round" (Chubby Checker) This is my third Hartford Baking review, having previously reviewed their South Windsor and West Harford locations. You'll find it on that horrendous bottlenecked stretch of Route 4 in Farmington- just look for the bright red umbrellas. It seemed a little smaller than the other locations, but there is a staircase to a separate dining room on the second floor above the sales counter and showroom. You'll find all the high-quality products that HBC is famous for - breads, loaves, rolls, dozens of pastries and sweet treats, plus sandwiches. It's quite a nice menu and you can out together an excellent varied meal for dining in or take-out. We went the takeout route and picked up two gorgeous sandwiches -a prosciutto de parma (Thinly sliced Prosciutto Di Parma, provolone cheese, and arugula on a homemade croissant) and a Caprese (loaded with slabs of Fresh mozzarella, sliced tomato, and fresh basil on ciabatta drizzled with vinegar). Their sandwiches are excellent and a pretty decent value at under ten dollars. PRO TIP Don't even dare thinking about parking on busy Route 4, there is none, but go around the corner on High Street and you'll find plenty of parking in a lot behind the building.

That includes no drink or anything else! By the way, for what they charge me, they didn't even give me a napkin, and they don't even cut the sandwich in half! The sandwich itself was fine if it was a normal cost it would've been OK to go, but definitely not worth that cost.

"My grandma and your grandma Were sittin' by the fire…read moreMy grandma told your grandma "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" (Dr. John) Abuela, Bubbe, Grand-mère, Oma, Avó, Obā-chan, Nǎi Nai, or Ammamma are terms of endearment to say "Grandma" around the globe. In Italy, the word is "Nonnie" which just happens to be the name of an amazing Italian bakery we visited today. To be honest, calling Nonni's a "bakery" really shortchanges Grandma, because it is SO much more than that. Yes, of course they sell an incredible variety of beautifully crafted cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cannolis, but you can also buy breakfast sandwiches, pizza, stromboli, arancino, stuffed breads, grinders, chicken cutlets and more. Their store is awesome, and you'll find yourself staring at their showcases and refrigerated cases. Service is top notch, with plenty of helpful and smiling folks helping you. We picked up an eclectic group of odds and ends - croissants, donuts, danishes, and a big arancini stuffed with meat and vegetables. We attacked that first as an appetizer with dinner, and it was terrific. I can't wait to sample the rest of their wares. PRO TIP Their Italian cookies look amazing, and we will definitely be back to supply our Thanksgiving dessert table with their Rainbow and Birthday Cake cookie cubes.

This place is obscure and a little bit hard to find unless you have navigation!…read more But once you find the front door and walk through, you are greeted warmly with many smiles from the workers, and the smell of fresh baked goods I came specifically for the sourdough bread and there it was sitting in the showcase ready to rock! Think people are hating this place because they are comparing the food to Stop & Shop. The taste is pretty different. Sour Dough from NY, Vermont that was "baked today" but feels half frozen is $7 at Whole Foods ... so complaining about $10 for a local one is kind of wild. Yesterday I had a baguette from the West Hartford location. Ate it on the way home. It was so good. Finally tried a sandwich. I had their Turkey Sandwich today. Shit was life changing. Haven't had an experience like that since having a steak at J Gilberts for the first time. It is like wow this is what real food taste like and what our parents & grand parents would eat before everything was mass produced. Everything was local and delicious. Price wise it was $2 more than a regular sized Jersey Mikes Turkey Bacon sandwich. The coffee and the other baked goods I thought were just ok but their bread, cookies and sandwiches are incredible.
