We enjoyed the multiple decks both fore and aft and the upper deck. The cruse is very leisurely so there is minimal wake and you have plenty of time to view the sights. The narration is also presented both inside and outside on all decks so you can hear the narration even when you are outside. Their price is excellent compared to some other cruises, likely because the other tour companies have newer boats.

Every single thing we ate was absolutely delicious, highlighting fresh, high-quality ingredients. The service is highly efficient: you order at the counter, choose your seat, and they bring the food straight to your table. The staff was consistently friendly, helpful, and quick. Both days there was plenty of room in the gastropub and we did not have to wait for a seat. We also got to experience both seating areas. The outdoor patio offers a lovely view while keeping you totally comfortable, heated, and protected from the elements. Our second night, we sat inside, which has a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. The rooms are quite small, but the beds were comfortable with plenty of pillows. Our shower room however only had scalding hot water. During a very hot summer, this was very problematic. The wash sink had appropriate-temperature water. There was basically no air movement even with the windows wide open. The place is fairly far out from the main Flam attractions -- about half-a-mile or so. Breakfast was included and decent. Fairly typical Norwegian fare of fish, caviar, bread, hard-boiled eggs, etc. I can't compare prices, as all other available hotels were unavailable by time we had booked.

Peaceful water and mountains. I cannot believe how still the water is. Slopes with houses dotted here and there, and birch trees... Standing in awe... Rooms at Brakanes are charming, it is quiet here. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Small gift shop on a first floor offers all your regular souvenirs. Some cute clothing, too! Their restaurant is nothing but outstanding. Every course is a masterpiece. I can honestly say, venison here is the best you would find anywhere, it just melt-in-your-mouth perfection. What's around: There are many hike trails and runs in Ulvik, the ones you will remember forever. Run around the fjord in early morning hours is particularly peaceful. If you visiting in Spring, there are cherry trees in bloom! Small cafes along the water are delightful for quick bite of to sit and relax.

Food: Enjoyed buffet dinner and breakfast at restaurant. Wide selection and buffet items refilled often, clean plates/glasses. Most items were tasty. Water pitchers refilled often, used cutlery swapped, and used plates bussed quickly. No complaints. Rooms: Cosy and clean. Majestic views of Hardanger fjord from private balcony. Bathroom had good water temperature/pressure. Wake-up call provided as promised. Bottom Line: Picturesque views alone warrant 5 stars. Combined with the availability of vouchers, cosy rooms, and good food this place is a solid 5.

I suspect people have radically different experiences here based on whether they are staying in the…read morehostel/cabins vs. the campsite. The hostel/cabins book months in advance, so don't come here expecting to find a room the same day. We made that mistake and were directed to the campsite instead. I have to admit, paying 225 krone (about $30) per night to pitch our tent on a random patch of grass was a disappointment, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper in Flam, which is a major tourist destination. This place is in a solid location too, as it is about a 5-minute walk from the bus station. As far as campsites go, this one is very basic. There are water spouts, bathrooms with coin-op showers, a small communal kitchen, a playground for the kidlets, and coin-op laundry. Food options are a mini-store at the info desk and a food truck that comes at night. There are some broken wooden picnic tables to eat your food at, some covered by the pavilion and others uncovered. Bathrooms are clean enough. If I were to return to Flam, I would book a cabin way in advance, since it seemed to be an overall much nicer experience.
