Pictures do not do justice to the beauty that we had experienced. Our meeting point was at Flam quay after a numerous train and bus ride. But first, upon arrival at Flam go straight to where line starts to enter the boat as line can get really long especially that there are a lot of tour groups as well. Better to get in first to get a good spot and reserve tables and chairs. We did our "Norway in a nutshell tour" on our own so we booked all our trains and bus ride separately as you can save about $200 per person doing it on your own rather than booking with a travel website. The vessel began its journey sailing through what they call idyllic Aurlandsfjord, before the boat continues through the narrow Naeroyfjord before arriving Gudvangen at the inner end. The trip takes around 2 hours one way. The Naeroyfjord (a West Norwegian Fjords) has been enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage list along with Geirangerfjord since 2005. Food & Beverages: onboard the ship is a cafe that serves hot and cold drinks, a variety of pastries, sandwiches, hotdogs, chips as well as selection of wines & beers and a whole lot more if you get hungry. And you will get hungry as the ride was about 2 hours long. Tables and chairs are available inside the boat. We stayed half of our time inside and half outside as it was super cold in October. For cold weather be prepared to bundle up with heavy jackets, gloves, scarves and beanies because it goes a long way and it's very beautiful to stay outside of the ship just savoring the beauty of nature. The modern and very comfortable boat cruised us from Flam to Gudvangen. We were able to witness a lot of waterfalls, colorful Norwegian houses. The Norwegian nature all around was pretty impressive and again pictures nor videos do not do justice to the beauty of this place at all. This is one experience you cannot miss when in Norway. There were large windows so one could take in the spectacular views. I encourage going outside to get unforgettable photos though it can get packed quickly. The views of the mountainsides with the waterfalls and the various villages with colorful Scandinavian houses are breathtaking. But be forwarned, the fjord winds blows over the ferry and can get pretty cold. Since this was an almost 2 hour tour, we got hungry and indulged in more Norwegian pølse (hotdog) with traditional toppings. Price was fair, not expensive and the decent coffees were self-service. The staff was helpful, courteous and well organized to assist the patrons. The multi-level seating options were comfortable and allowed passengers to either get ones with a table or relax with the group in cushioned sectionals. This was a very nice ship and the fjord was perfect plus we were blessed with great weather. This cruise from Flam to Gudvangen (or vice versa) crossing the fjord with an electric ferry departs from either harbor. Because it uses electricity, there's almost no distinctive engine sound.

The check-in was a breeze and the rooms were modern and well maintained with modern bath and comfortable bedding. Our refrigerator was not working properly and they replaced it efficiently. The breakfast buffet is large and plentiful, but note it gets crowded, so best to go early and/or get a reservation. The onsite brewery/restaurant is quite good but you should also book a reservation there for dinner during busy season.

The views outside were limited but promising for what we'd see on the decent down the mountain. Seating on the Flåm portion of the train trip was open so as soon as the train pulled in people were already lining up before the train was emptied of the original passengers. The ride down to Flåm had a little more sites to see from the left side. Not much else to do in Myrdal though I saw some people walking on the other side of the track. Not sure where the entry point was from the station.

I suspect people have radically different experiences here based on whether they are staying in the…read morehostel/cabins vs. the campsite. The hostel/cabins book months in advance, so don't come here expecting to find a room the same day. We made that mistake and were directed to the campsite instead. I have to admit, paying 225 krone (about $30) per night to pitch our tent on a random patch of grass was a disappointment, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper in Flam, which is a major tourist destination. This place is in a solid location too, as it is about a 5-minute walk from the bus station. As far as campsites go, this one is very basic. There are water spouts, bathrooms with coin-op showers, a small communal kitchen, a playground for the kidlets, and coin-op laundry. Food options are a mini-store at the info desk and a food truck that comes at night. There are some broken wooden picnic tables to eat your food at, some covered by the pavilion and others uncovered. Bathrooms are clean enough. If I were to return to Flam, I would book a cabin way in advance, since it seemed to be an overall much nicer experience.

Wifi is not reliable, but this is a remote area, and be aware of that. Since it is usually not very warm, there is no air conditioning. In the summer for a few weeks, they also have pesky non-biting flies, so you cannot open your windows too wide. Staff was very cheerful, and helpful. Location is right next door to the train station, so you should not have any problems walking with your luggage to the hotel. Be aware there are a few steps to get into the lobby, and your room may be down a flight of stairs. I do not believe they have an elevator. Overall, a little rustic, but a stunning setting, and a wonderful place!

It was a very convenient spot to take some tours and day trips from. My biggest recommendation is to book everything in advance. Hotel reservation, restaurant reservations, tours, and transportation. Since Flåm gets cruise ships almost daily things book up. There aren't many options for restaurants open after 6pm in flam so it was nice to have one available in the hotel. The hotel was a little dated but the amenities were clean and comfortable. The room was fairly spacious and quiet. We enjoyed our balcony as the view is breathtaking! The shower/ tub is a big step to get into so be aware before booking if you have troubles with large steps. Breakfast was a tasty inclusion and served buffet style. I would definitely book here again!

The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room on the fourth floor in the newer section was small as was the bathroom. The window was unique since it was more of a glass greenhouse which gave an interesting perspective of the fjord. The bed was super mushy. And at this price point no refrigerator / mini bar... The public spaces were clean and up to date. We had both dinner and breakfast included in our package which for two people was about 200 NOK. Both buffets were expansive especially the dinner buffet - the selection was huge! Everything was tasty. Since we don't leave until later in the day they stored our luggage for us. Overall a nice stay but even if this was 50% less it was a rip off.

On our first visit, we shared a delightful goat cheese salad, followed by a lamb dish and a deer stew. The service is highly efficient: you order at the counter, choose your seat, and they bring the food straight to your table. The staff was consistently friendly, helpful, and quick. Both days there was plenty of room in the gastropub and we did not have to wait for a seat. We also got to experience both seating areas. The outdoor patio offers a lovely view while keeping you totally comfortable, heated, and protected from the elements. Our second night, we sat inside, which has a wonderfully cozy atmosphere.
