Jason was an awesome and highly knowledgeable tour guide! This was a great tour and allowed us to see a lot of the city that we would never be able to otherwise. He gave us a very interesting history and background of Austin that really kept our attention! The bus was very comfortable and they were very flexible and allowed us to bring lunch on board. Took the Best of Austin aka Real Austin aka Bucket List tour. It is 2 hours that brings you all around Austin for an overview that includes getting off the van at a few spots like the congress, hope outdoor and the Austin postcard mural. This is a nice low key 2-2.5 hour tour! We saw the capital building and got to go inside and learn some history. We stopped at a park with a great skyline also. We also saw the famous postcard wall art! We even got to stop for gelato! Our tour guide Jax was really really great. The tour was relatively simple, to the Salt Lick Barbecue and two wineries, The wines were better than I expected (who knows about Texas wines????) . I recently traveled to Austin for a short weekend trip. Austin Detours offers a variety of tours for whatever you might be looking for. I wanted to make the best out of the little time I had there, so I decided to go on the The Real Austin Tour. This was a bang for the buck (only $35) and I got to see plenty of my to-do items in just a couple hours! First off, the tour guide, Ike was fantastic! He was full of knowledge, energy and made the tour lots of fun. He encouraged conversation amongst everyone so we could make friends along the way. Ten of us loaded the Mercedes van and headed out on the town. We got a brief tour of the beautiful capital, local art spots and even a sweet treat at the end. My favorite part about this tour was that we weren't just sitting in the van the whole time. Although we saw many things as we drove, we still got the opportunity to get out, walk around and take pictures. Custom tour of breweries and food trucks. Tour guide was Jason. Exemplary business with extremely nice employees. Everyone on our ten person private tour commented on how unusual it was to have such a convenient and easy way to tour breweries and food trucks - and we are locals to begin with! One employee (MJ) traveled ahead of group just to order food and block tables. This was worth the price of admission by itself. The sprinter van was very well kept and new. Jason was a great guide! A Mercedes van, Steven as our guide and a total of 8 (my party was 4) and we were off and running. Steven, tour guide by day and apparently a comedian by night knew his Austin history and lore. We stopped first at the Capitol where I have been before. It was a good stop and Steven knew his stuff. We then wound our way to an artist graffiti place that was intriguing. We then drove our way off the beaten path to a few interesting neighborhoods and stopped on SoCo for delicious cupcakes. My family and I joined the live music crawl with Chris Gonzales. We visited the famous Continental Club for jazz, White Horse for country music, and ended at the Skylark Lounge to hear a soulful former Voice contestant. The selection of music venues and genres was refreshingly diverse. Artists were talented and passionate in their craft. We enjoyed drinks at all venues and tacos at the White Horse, where we also had the opportunity to practice two-stepping. As a local resident and artist, Chris was knowledgeable and had a clear love for Austin and its musicians, offering us a meaningful narrative during our bus ride that included important inflections in Austin's music history. Overall throughout the evening, I felt more like a friend visiting from out-of-town than a drop-in tourist. As a usual tour skeptic, I would highly recommend Austin Detours and Chris! read more

Visited Austin for the first time with my husband to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. Decided to do a city tour and found Austin Detours online. Our experience with Jax, Ruben and Evan was great. They all know so much (interesting things) about Austin and their enthusiasm left me wanting to stay longer to learn more about this great "weird" city that I've grown to love. We rode around for two hours with 2 other couples in a van and it was perfect. The time flew by. I didn't want it to end. I would've loved hanging out with Jax, Ruben and Evan all day. Loved the Music Crawl. My friend and I wanted to experience the music scene but had no idea where to start so we opted for this tour and had a great time. #1 Sunny is great guide. Informative, enthusiastic, you could really see his love for music. Our three stops were: White Horse: traditional honkey tonk. I am not a country music fan, but this place was so fun. Great band and it was so entertaining watching people dance. Some just dance, others do serious two stepping. ABGBs. Beer garden with music. Tomar and the FCs were awesome. Great R&B/Soul Music. The only downside of the tour is you are on a time limit, so we were sad to leave this one. We didn't eat, but this stop gave tour mates time to order a pizza. Saxon Pub - final stop - Monte Montgomery - singer/songwriter guitarist. Cool, small pub for watching music. While we drove from venue to venue Sunny also gave us some insight into Austin, the neighborhoods we drove through, and of course the music! read more

Really fun tour! Our guide, Chris, drove our group out into the Hill Country. The vehicle was spotless and kept cold (because 105F is really like 105F!!). On the way out he gave us the history of BBQ. Being a Texan I thought I knew a fair amount about the subject, but I was wrong! :) After a fabulous lunch at Salt Lick, we went on to 2 different wineries. Great tastings in the most beautiful settings. Chris gave us a full tour and explained the whole winemaking process. It was the highlight of our trip to Austin. Our group ran the gauntlet: we had a bachelorette party (they seemed to have a great time), us (2 average-aged women), and an older couple (they moved at a slower pace than the rest of us). We've been living in Austin for the past five years or so and had relatives in town from Tennessee come to visit. We took the tour with them to keep them company thinking we'd seen all the places, done all the things but boy were we wrong! Steven, our tour guide, was a blast. He had a ton of great little tidbits of information about places we'd been a dozen times that made us see them in a new light. It helps he is an Austin native and was able to tell us all about neighborhoods and locales we'd only heard about in passing. Lots of fun photo stops with the famous murals we've all seen but never visited. We'll probably do it again next time we have guests in town! Other Pluses included that the tour takes place in a smaller van, only eleven seats total which makes for a great small group atmosphere. No problems hearing or feeling like you're being corralled like you would in a larger group. read more

I am in Austin for a conference and brought my mother so that she could sightsee while I was working. She signed up for the two hour city tour and was the only one booked on a Monday. Lucky her because she had a private tour with Steven and it was the highlight of her week in Texas!!! He drove her to all of the sights and knew all of the historical and entertaining facts. She enjoyed the state capital, Governors Mansion, local neighborhoods and tales. The next day I had arranged a trip and tour of San Antonio for her but she returned disappointed that nothing there was as good as the tour she had with Steven!
