Avoid at all cost!! Totally a rip off joint. I went in late at night feeling horrible Covid symptoms. They gave me the same covid test I had used at home that I had acquired for free. The said I was negative, did NOTHING, sent me home and charged me $400. The would not take my Medicare Insurance! I came to Austin emergency center- south because my nephew had been here and their service has been nothing but amazing so friendly and caring! She is the example of what all doctors should be. The team at this location was kind and collaborative. From the moment I walked in until I left (feeling better and with good news), I was truly seen and reassured. Dr. Ely acted quickly, was honest and encouraging, and he confidence and kindness put me at ease. Carlos was the most attentive, present nurse I have ever had. The rest of the crew was fabulous as well - Linda, DeAnna, Alex, and Dana (who came from another site to perform a needed procedure). Total scam. Took my S.O. here because she had some chest pain. Anyways, they ran some tests, didn't find any problems. She went to the urgent care the next day and they resolved it. She had had an allergic reaction. A month later, she gets a bill for $8,000 dollars from this place. I had twisted me ankle and got an X-ray done here. I was crying in pain before they have gave me tramadol, which did nothing. Whenever I started crying in pain they FINALLY gave me Narcos... and the doctor begin to say "I actually believe you are in pain" like I was lying. Whenever I tried to get the meds they had ALL the WRONG information. So when I went to the pharmacy they couldn't fill my PAIN meds which I had been suffering for a day bc I was helped here at 10pm or later after pharmacies are closed. This doctor filled out that he was in LAREDO and put my birthdate under the actual date???! I had to literally jump through hoops just to get my meds. UNPROFESSIONAL doesn't even come close to what I had to deal with. I hope no one has to end of up at this place. Beware - illegal billing practices. They billed my insurance for four CPT codes that did not occur during my visit. Not only did they not occur - I flat-out verbally refused two (optional) treatments when they were suggested to me by the nurse, and so they did not give me those particular treatments, yet they still billed as if they had! So, unless you want to risk being in a months-long struggle over an insurance claim and insurance billing, do not go here. read more

Very strange experience. I went here for a drive-thru Covid test (though I'm pretty sure I just have seasonal allergies). A young man emerged who appeared to me to be wearing a poorly secured drugstore paper mask. I rolled down my window to receive instructions. As he was speaking to me he got closer and closer until I felt like his head was practically poking in my car. I politely asked if he might step back a few paces (social distancing and all.) His response was, "Oh, we're going to get *way* more invasive than this!" I asked if he would be wearing only his thin paper mask during the "invasive" part of the encounter. Given that he spends much of his day around people who have, um, COVID, I thought it might behoove us both to have him properly protected He said, "Well, if you *want* I can go get suited up..." (and from behind his paper mask he seemed quite annoyed at my insolence.) I said, "No need," and drove away. I can't speak to the rest of the clinic...but I don't think you want to catch COVID here. I mean, "Get COVID tested here" As for "Heather's" comment below, I feel like it might make more sense for *her* to contact Carol than for me to. Lol... read more

Update: I talked to their Patient Advocate, Jody, who answered all of my questions and was very sweet. She explained that AEC will not bill me for any of the test visit. They will do the work to figure it out with my insurance. I also very much appreciate the response to this review. All the staff that I've interacted with have been superb and helpful. Previous review: I got a drive thru Covid test on 6/5 that was billed to my insurance for over $2000, of which I was responsible for $250, when it should be free according to the CARES act. Also my results took nine days. Not a completely negative experience though. The actual visit was was easy and the people were polite and glad to answer questions. But save your money and go somewhere else I would recommend. read more

No one ever wants to go to the ER, but when they do, you at least want a good experience. From what I remember check in was easy. I was somewhat disoriented with what was exactly happening so I don't really remember. The lobby was clean and the person up from during triage was very nice. I signed a few forms and was quickly taken back to a room to be assessed. The staff was very nice and patient with me. Luckily I had my better half to answer most questions and help me when I needed him most. It was overall a great experience. The rooms were quite small, but everything seemed very clean and the staff was great. The doc was able to assess and do what he needed rather than spend hours at an urgent care only to be directed to go to an ER. If I need to come back, which hopefully I don't, I will be going here. read more

I went in for pain on my right side during my 5th week of pregnancy. After a very lengthy vaginal ultrasound, the doctor told me the gestational sac was in the uterus but she needed the X-ray tech to look at the ultrasounds. An hour and a half later, my boyfriend asked what was asking so long, they said the scans should be over in 5 minutes, 20 minutes later they came back to say they just needed to get them signed. Sorta felt like being in Vegas where everyone's got technically nice outfits on but have that seedy, grifter quality underneath. And I mean that as a compliment. Anyway, I told the front desk before filling out the papers that I didn't want to waste anyone's time (especially mine) but that I only had a hundred bucks to spare. Nevertheless she strung a bunch of words together that didn't relay any information, like there had been a morning meeting where they put her on strict orders not to give even close to a ballpark. Long story short ( I know, I know, that ship has sailed), the doctor agreed I needed antibiotics and 2 other topical meds for my stupid skin issue (don't even get me started on THAT). Then the bouncer, I mean, the nurse (who was cool in like an unapologetically 90's, White Zombie way) came in and told me that since I couldn't pay the $300, that the doctor won't call in the prescriptions but that after I signed some paperwork, I "was free to go". Umm, dude, I was always free to go unless this place is a jail disguised as a pop up ER in the Pep Boys parking lot. Bizarre place. Those people were interesting characters though and oddly attractive now that I'm thinking about it. Probably would be a cool dysfunctional reality show to watch. Just that nurse dude alone seemed fun to party with...and there was definitely something mcsteamy between him and the supermodel-esque doctor-feel-good lady. My friend was playing in a volleyball tournament at the Austin Rec Center and badly dislocated her finger. We tried going to MedSpring but there was an hour and 45 minute wait and they didn't set bones. I had called ahead to them and TOLD them my friend's finger was dislocated but they didn't let us know until we got there that they didn't do dislocations. Ugh! But they referred us to AEC and it was close so we went there. When we got there they had a nice, comfortable waiting room and the lady up front got us started on all the paperwork. I had to fill it out for her and they took her back and got started on her X-rays before I even finished the paperwork. The nurse was very nice and personable and the doctor was as well and saw her quickly. They showed her the X-rays first and told her that he just needed to pop it back in. They numbed it and then the doctor gently and expertly reset it. They explained the regab process and discharge instructions well. She was checked out quickly and efficiently and we were there barely 45 minutes. They worked as a team there and it was a very easy process to what could have been long and painful. I don't give many 5-star reviews but I work in healthcare IT and have worked in some of the biggest and best ER's in the country and this place was very well run for a standalone urgent care center. Normally the staffing at these places is not top-tier, but AEC ran like a well-oiled machine with excellent care. They even had windows/skylights in the rooms so there was a lot of natural light and paintings on the walls. Great crew there and they got everything taken care of quickly. read more

Don't ever go here! I had chest pains related to a clavicle injury, that I suffered years ago. Periodically, it flares up and I go in for the same non-narcotic medication. These "doctors "asked me several times if I wanted morphine for the pain. I repeatedly said no, it was almost as if they insisted on it. They also said that it could be a heart attack, I had been in pain for over six hours. Nobody at this location listened or cared about my well-being, in fact I overheard the front desk lady insults me saying that I was overreacting. read more

If you enjoy unclear medical bills, yes plural - both a separate facility and doctor bill, based upon a "point system" that no one there seems to be able to articulate, and extremely high cost, this is the place for you. After an eye injury, I went to AEC - South Lamar, for approx. 30 min - enough time for them to refer me to a specialist - and was charged a total of $2,185.81. It was described to me as "moderate severity ranking". What was done in the 30 minutes? Was given a Tylenol and an eye drop (totaling $58), vitals taken, had my eye looked at / fingers waved in front of my face, then told there was nothing they could do and I needed to go to a specialist. Their "point system" is based upon: "procedures performed, patient acuity, potential liability, and the complexity of the physician/patient interaction." I had a surface level eye inspection, basic pain killer, needed 1 nurse to take down my vitals, and a doctor to tell me he couldn't perform any procedures - but still ranked moderately and charged over $2,000? I feel sick to my stomach thinking about other clients that cannot afford these expenses and go to this place for help. This center should be ashamed for the stress they put their patients through - they're a racket. It is no wonder they had to switch their 3rd party billing company - I wouldn't want to take on that many scammed clients either. During my investigation into their billing practices I had to call the billing company 5+ times to even get a call back, and when I was finally able to speak to the manager, I met one of the most rude individuals I have ever spoken with. After questioning the ranking I asked for her to send me the medical billing done on my specific case and was told it would be sent - it was never sent. I implore AEC to listen to my several calls and see firsthand how patients get treated by the new billing manager. I am exhausted dealing with this company that treats patients this way and never bothers to call back; but I am glad they have updated their home site to 'try' and explain their practices a bit clearer..good luck. read more
