Reckless and Dangerous Experience at Baylor Scott and White Urgent Care…read more I scheduled an appointment through the Baylor Scott and White app, believing I would receive care at a clinic that was fully part of the Baylor Scott and White network. When I arrived, I was shocked to learn they did not have access to the Baylor Scott and White system. Even more confusing, the building only had signage for Baylor Scott and White Urgent Care. There was no mention of NextCare or any indication that this was operated by a third party. From a patient's perspective, there was no reason to assume this was anything but a regular Baylor Scott and White facility. I came in with intense lower abdominal pain. During the brief evaluation, the provider stated it could be my appendix. That alone should have triggered immediate escalation, lab testing, or at minimum a referral to the emergency room. Instead, I was sent home with nothing but a prescription for a muscle relaxer. There were no labs, no imaging, and no follow-up instructions. I was in the same amount of pain I came in with, but now with a medication that could have masked the symptoms of a serious emergency. Thankfully, I trusted my instincts. About fifteen minutes later, I went to the Baylor Scott and White Clinic on Slaughter. The staff there took my condition seriously and quickly referred me to the emergency room. A CT scan confirmed I had acute appendicitis. I underwent emergency surgery to have my appendix removed later that day. Had I followed the guidance of the first provider and taken the muscle relaxer to rest at home, my appendix could have ruptured. That kind of delay could have led to a life-threatening infection. This was not just a poor experience. It was dangerous and could have resulted in serious harm. The most concerning part is that the provider openly acknowledged the possibility of appendicitis but still made the decision to send me home without running a single test. That is unacceptable. Masking the pain of a potentially fatal condition rather than investigating it further shows a complete lack of clinical judgment. I will be speaking with a patient ombudsman and formally submitting a complaint to Baylor Scott and White leadership. The fact that their app directed me to this location and their name is on the building means the care that happens there reflects directly on them. Patients should not be misled into thinking they are receiving Baylor Scott and White care when they are not. There needs to be full transparency about who is providing care and what services are actually available at the location. This experience was extremely unsettling. I trusted the Baylor Scott and White name and almost suffered the consequences of that trust being misplaced. I hope this review serves as a warning to others and as a call for change within the system. Patients deserve competent, transparent, and safe medical care. I nearly did not receive it.

He has had violent coughing fits for 6 days, some ending in vomiting, with clear mucus, and gasping for air, no fever or other symptoms. We informed Dr. Snyder of recent travel to the Big Island, where pertussis is circulating. Despite this, she refused to prescribe antibiotics. This contradicts CDC guidance for presumptive treatment and left my child and our community at risk. I told her we were switching pediatricians to someone near our home since his was almost 2 hours away so we needed something to start him on. Although the doctor was informed I was told to "follow up with one" or "go to a different hospital that does that kind of testing." No referral or concrete next step was offered. This represents not only a failure to act on clear CDC guidance, but also a failure to ensure appropriate continuity of care for a symptomatic, unvaccinated minor. While I can appreciate that she is a doctor that doesnt just throw antibiotics at children, this is a different case, and the fact that my son isn't vaccinated should have been treated more seriously. This would have been his second ever antibiotic but because we are with him and know this cough isnt normal we felt the antibiotic would be a smart choice. I called her again and she still refused. Requesting that we take him somewhere else, as if everyone can afford another doctor visit. I will be requesting an investigation into the clinical decision-making.

I called and it took a while to get through as it's automated at first and you have to wait to speak with a live person. Once I did I got a person that answered the phone he told me that he was in training. He did a good job communicating but told me I'd get a call back within 24 hours. Unfortunately I missed the call back so I had to start the whole process over. I called again and spoke with a friendly and patient woman who booked me an appointment for the next day. Driving in was not a problem. There is a garage for parking. I found a spot and walked in. I wasn't sure where to go and asked the person working the desk on the first floor. She told me to take the elevator to the second floor. When I got there I noticed that the waiting area is clean, bright, and in a large space. I had a brief wait and then someone called me over. She checked me in and I paid. It was fairly quick and the person I spoke to was friendly. After paying she told me to sit and wait until they could get me in for X-rays and then a room. I waited for about 20 minutes and then a woman called my name. After my name was called I met two women who took me to get X-rays on my foot. They were both friendly. One of the women was guiding me through the process while the other was working on the the computer and checking the scans. It was actually very fast. After the x-rays, I was taken to an exam room. I waited less than five minutes and another woman came into the room. She asked me questions about my visit and medical history and then told me that the doctor would see me soon. I waited less than a minute and then the doctor walked into the room. He was very friendly and professional. He introduced himself and we talked about my medical history and why I was there. He then examined my foot and we went from there. He sent me off with some options and a plan for future treatment if necessary. Overall I had a mostly positive experience at Baylor Scott and White. My only frustration was with the automated answering system and wait to get a live person on the phone. Other than that the parking lot was convenient, the office was clean and bright and everyone that worked there was friendly and professional.

First Visit: I had been dealing with a respiratory tract infection for almost 30 days and had already been treated by another community care center. Since I had a trip planned, I wanted to confirm whether I was still contagious. After completing my paperwork, I was called in quickly. The doctor reviewed my symptoms--fever that came and went, a bad cough, and throat discomfort. She checked my vitals, body temperature, and BP, which were all normal at that moment. Since I had already completed a round of antibiotics, she advised me to let my body fight the infection, reassuring me that I was no longer contagious. That was a relief, and I left Ally without being charged. Second Visit: After returning from my trip to California, I came back to Ally with a 103°F fever, severe body aches, extreme fatigue, and a baddd cough. This time, they ran every available test for infections and viruses, which confirmed that I had Influenza A, Influenza B, and COVID-19 and Respiratory Tract Infection. Unfortunately, since I had been sick for over a week, the doctor explained that antiviral medication wouldn't be effective. But they saw how severe my cough was, they prescribed an inhaler and cough medication to help manage my symptoms. I was charged $220 but that was in my best interest there are several other options which you can decide accordingly. What I appreciate most about Ally is that they are upfront about costs. Unlike other ERs that seem to prioritize billing over patient care, they inform you of pricing in advance, giving you the option to accept or decline services based on what's in your best interest. I honestly trust them more than my own physician at this point. I once took a friend to another ER where she tested positive for the flu. All they did was checked her vitals and BP before prescribing medication. Later she received a bill for $1,000. I was very ill at the time, so I do not have any pictures of Ally. However, I've attached a screenshot as proof of my visit.

However, the follow-up care after the ER visit could be better. Overall, this hospital is one of the better options in the Austin area. Despite her visible dehydration and the difficulty staff had establishing an IV, she remained in the ER for approximately four hours without receiving any IV fluids. Before being discharged, she suffered a physical setback, yet she was still sent home. The following day, we were notified that she tested positive for C. diff. It is deeply concerning that a patient in her condition, with what turned out to be a serious infection, was brushed off and discharged while still thirsty and weak. We now have to wait several days to see her primary care physician for follow-up care that should have been initiated or supported by the emergency team. I am disappointed by the lack of effort and the dismissive attitude we encountered during this visit. I would appreciate a review of her case and an explanation as to why standard interventions, such as administering saline fluids, were not provided given her symptoms. We can do better for all patients.
