Recently, I made an appointment for my father at Austin Haircut. Despite the appointment, we were made to wait for around 45 minutes. On asking at the front desk they mentioned feel free to leave if you cannot wait in a very rude tone. Their body language, tone, and facial expressions inclined greatly toward racism. I made a late morning appointment today at the Braker location. I arrived 5 minutes early and the salon was completely empty other than the three people working there. I was acknowledged from across the room by one of the employees who was lounging in one of the salon chairs while wearing large headphones and staring at her phone. Two other employees just kind of walked around organizing/restocking/whatever while I waited. After 10 minutes, it was clear that haircuts weren't a priority so I got up and left. I would have waited if it was busy, but having to sit there while being ignored by 3 employees isn't respectful of my time. read more

At the SW location on Brodie, Jesse did a wonderful job cutting my long pandemic hair. He trimmed off at least 8 inches, trimmed and layered each strand, shampooed and blow dried it, and it looks phenomenal. He read my mind and left it shoulder length with long bangs. Just looks great. He grew up in Cleveland and has been in Austin only 13 years. He belongs in a great salon. Spent an hour on it. I will be back for sure. Best $60 plus tip I've spent in a long time. read more

This is a terrible place. I had booked an appointment for a haircut and beard trim for noon. Since this was to be my first experience with this place, I put myself down for any available stylist. I walked in two minutes before noon and was checked in. There were three stylists in the main area and one more person in the back. Two stylists were attending to customers. The one that checked me in returned to an empty chair and proceeded to browse her phone. In every other barber shop or salon that I have patronized, the person who is supposed to do my hair is always notified when I am checked in. It did not occur in this case, which I thought unusual. I waited till ten minutes past noon when a walk-in customer came in and was taken to a chair immediately by the stylist who checked me in. I went up to her and reminded her that I had a noon appointment and was kept waiting while the walk-in was attended to first. I told her I was leaving. There was no attempt at an explanation or apology. I was the only person of color in the place. You don't often encounter discrimination in Austin, but my experience here seems to indicate it does exist. read more

I have gone a couple times to the Braker location and not impressed at all. I was asked to sign into the system and I asked if that was necessary? I was told to hold on and she would put me in the system as a walk in not using my personal information, which was great. Moving to the hair cut. I sat in Jennie's chair, we talked about what I wanted. Small talk was fine but she seemed distracted by something else and not focused on my hair. Once she was finished I paid and left with a chopped up haircut. This is the 2nd time this has happened by Jennie. I gave the benefit of doubt the 1st time but the 2nd time, come on. I was super impressed with my experience at the salon! The decor has a great vibe! Also felt very clean and sanitary. My new hairdresser Amanda is talented, nice and entertaining. Unbeatable price for an awesome haircut and shampoo. Amanda dusted the hair off me which seems to be rare these days. Products were great. She used Reuzel clay on my hair which is what normally I use. Parking was easy breezy right out front. I booked last minute and they quickly accommodated in 30 minutes. I went in yesterday and Jesse cut my hair.. sadly. I can't even express how bad it was. He had no idea what he was doing. He didnt ask me to put my head down to cut my length, he gave me inverted layers. If he'd told me he couldn't cut my hair and sent me on my way I'd have been happy. But he took me back and ruined my hair. I feel a little bad leaving this review but what he did was absolutely unacceptable. I've never even done a haircut this bad. I had an unusual experience with a new lady named Maria at the W. Braker store. I usually have Jennie cut my hair. She is very sweet and always helpful with ideas when i don't know what I want to do with my hair. Jennie was not available so I went with Maria. Maria was very abrupt and had an uppity attitude. She was hard to talk to and made me feel uncomfortable. I think this should be told because when I go into the store people always make you feel comfortable. I am new to this city, was in search of a good hair salon came across this one through yelp. Booked an appointment for myself and my 2.5 years old. Really had a worst hair cut ever in my life. Already my hairs are short and in no time the old lady has cut them unevenly, they look so ugly and pathetic that I have to search again for a good salon to go for the correction. She was done in 15 mins with all the bangs and the layers, when I asked her this is it she then showed me the mirror and said yes. This is such a horrible experience I have ever had with my hairs. Talk about sexual harrassment. I went in for a haircut and all the dude would talk about or ask me if I was single or had a boyfriend. Couldnt shut up about his old girlfriends. Super inappropriate. As for my haircut, I don't think I've ever had one worse. Choppy and uneven. Sad to think someone states he's been cutting hair for so long and does that bad of a job. Had to go get it fixed by someone else the following day, cutting even more length off which I wanted to keep. SO BAD. Will not recommend EVER again. read more

Staff is always courteous at this location. My 9 year old son even prefers to come here. Location is very central to my work so I can't stop on my way or back from work. My 15-year-old sister who never held a trimmer could've done a better job. This was so bad, even my beard was running away from it. Literally looks like an elephant took a dump on my head. UNBELIEVABLE!! I cannot completely remember the lady's name, but I know what she looks like, it was an older Asian lady, I believe her name was Maggie. I even showed her the pictures of what I wanted. I wish she would've told me from the get-go that she cannot give a fade instead of doing this kind of criminal act on my head. My husband and I have been coming here for a few years, we always ask for Jessica. She Rocks! She really listens to us when we tell her what type of cut and style we want. She takes her time and is a real professional, yet also very friendly and nice. The whole staff is friendly and we really feel welcomed when we walk in, we are always greeted by the employees. We will continue to come here and have even passed the word to our friends - If you want a good cut and style at a reasonable price, come to this store. Called in at about 2:50pm lady there said I'll have a time opened at 4:45pm. I said great can you put me down, need my info. She said no just come in. I ended up driving there since I didn't have much going on waited in the parking lot for about an hour until 4:42pm. Once I got in a lady said to hold on. Then she came out and two others were sitting down but I guess they didn't have an apt. I said I had one at 4:45 from when I called in about two hrs ago. She said ok I'll take these two people first. I was so confused and obviously not happy with the service and experience of waiting so long just to find out that she's about to cut two other peoples hair before mine which could take up to another hour or longer. I said ok so I'm just going to go, she also had the nerve to say she could still cut my hair after she gets done. Unfortunately I don't have all the time in the world and the reason I called in to set up a cut. Terrible service, not professional clearly.
