I cancelled a 3 1/2 hr work shift and drove 1 1/2 hours this morning from Elgin for an appointment - but was delayed by an accident and construction - I checked in 20 min late and told them that - they refused to see me and stated no appointments until next year - I picked up copies of my labs and a transfer form They requested labs which I had done - but. I asked them to order a thyroid panel not just a TSH as I do not have a thyroid and the TSH has not been a good indicator of how much the actual Thyroid enzymes (T3 and T4 ) are available in my body - as there is no thyroid to stimulate! (TSH= Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) I was very unhappy with the care I received and told them i would be looking elsewhere read more

Avoid this place. The office is really bad, and Dr. Risinger (their best doctor) is old-fashioned and his experience seem to come all from working with the emergency cases - with very sick patients. I have a mild hypertension (despite taking a prescription) and mild hypertrophy. He basically told me to live with it without even taking BP measurements regularly and prescribed a medicine against cholesterol. He didn't send me to to do any lab bloodwork. How would he evaluate the progress of his prescription? After I did echocardiogram in his facility (which was 4 times more expensive than the street price), a nurse called me and read the brief summary of some cryptic medical terms and let me know that she is sending the prescription against the cholesterol. I told her that I need an explanation of the medical terms and I want to discuss a new BP medicine. She scheduled an appointment with him. Today I went there to find out that there was no any appointment scheduled. The receptionist did not apologized or offered to reschedule but suggested that I made a mistake. Don't waste your time, especially if you are not very sick. Look for a younger doctor who is more up-to-date with the new guidelines of BP and new BP medications. read more

I had a nightmare experience with Austin Heart. The doctor was fine but the way this company does business is terrible. After my appointment the company sent my bill to the wrong address, a mistake they admitted to, and instead of calling me or reaching out in any way they sent my to collections within a few weeks of my appointment. Beware, this company will make admin mistakes and quickly sell your home address and phone number to the highest bidder. I am so disappointed and shocked at the laziness and disregard Austin Heart show me. When I spoke with them they admitted the mistake, but offered no way to remedy the situation. I won't go into exactly what happened but needless to say I had to contact the office manager to get something sent because her staff completely ignored me. Wish I had read earlier comments. The sleep study process appears to be just a big revenue generator for Dr. Wang and hospital. He refers you to the Heart Hospital for a sleep study instead of a reasonably priced sleep study center. The bill was exorbitant and way higher than previous studies. I visited with Dr. Wang in early July 2019, by referral of Dr. Gilbert, also with Austin Heart. Everything went great, and I agreed to have an at-home sleep study performed as an initial step into investigating my sudden & alarming night time sleep disruptions. Unfortunately, as of October 3rd, I've yet to have any sleep study performed. After my 4th attempt to set the matter straight, I finally decided to cancel, and terminate my relationship with Austin Heart entirely - including my follow-ups with Dr. Gilbert. This has been due to both the Austin Heart office staff and Dr. Wang's affiliation with Vital Sleep. What caused my sleep study to get off the rails, was Vital Sleep asking me to agree to paying upwards of $3,000 for the return of the at-home monitor in working order... "at the sole discretion & judgment of Vital Sleep." I refused to agree to this, as it's entirely too vague. They tried to debate with me, saying... "Oh, we would never do that." My response... "This is a contract. It's quite clear you can if I sign this. If you won't ever do that, then don't ask for your customer/patient to sign it." I initially informed Dr. Wang/Austin Heart of this in mid August by telephone, and they were to submit a new order to Vital Sleep to arrange an in-house study. I never heard from Vital Sleep. I called again in early September. Again, no call from Vital Sleep. In late September, I tried again - speaking to two staff members at Dr. Wang's office, one of whom was in a management role. I explained the issues in depth. The female manager actually agreed with me that this was not their first issue with Vital Sleep - stating... "I really wish we could just use someone else." I agree completely! (As I've expressed to Dr. Wang's office more than once.) A week later (today), and I had still not heard from Vital Sleep - nor have I received any follow-up from Dr. Wang's office regarding the situation. So... that was the end of the story. I gave up. It shouldn't take months just to schedule an *appointment* for a professional sleep study. I'm not sure where the breakdown is occurring, but I'm sure whomever reads this with Austin Heart/Dr. Wang is certainly aware of the cause. This is unacceptable. Sleep Apnea is potentially life-threatening condition, and my symptoms do not present as the "typical" patient... even more reason to be concerned and to take it seriously. This was my 3rd attempt in 2019 to get a serious sleep study performed in Austin. The other referrals never panned-out either, due to similar service & communication issues between doctor's offices & the sleep centers. Apparently, professional sleep study centers simply do not exist in Austin, TX. I'd recommend Austin Heart & Dr. Wang re-think their affiliation with Vital Sleep (as I've already mentioned on the phone 3 times). read more

I love my doctor (Dr. Wang) and his PA (shout out to Molly!) but I really, really dislike the management of this clinic. I get that they're a large and busy practice, but if you call you're put on hold 90% of the time. Then, when you want to leave a message to have a nurse call you or to discuss the dosage of your prescriptions, you're told to go through the online patient portal. It's aggravating, but you log in, type a message and wait. And wait. And wait. I had a dosage change in my bp meds, and the PA and I agreed that I would finish out my current bottle by doubling up pills, and then let the clinic know to send in the new scrip for the new dosage. Two messages in the portal, and two prescription refill requests with comments that the dosage needed changing, and two phone calls to the clinic later, it was resolved -- all of this took 7 days. I ran out of meds but my pharmacy was kind enough to loan pills to me so as to not endanger my health. I'm certain that if the office was set up so that you could call in, have a nurse or med tech call you back, this issue would not have happened. With my two phone calls to the office staff, one assured me the meds would be called in that day, and confirmed the new dosage. Then the scrip was called in for the old dosage. The second time, the staff person told me that the meds had already been called in, and was ready to end the call when I blurted out, "but it was the wrong dosage!" Then they confirmed it was called in incorrectly, and would have someone call it in that day. I finally got my meds the next day. I've been unhappy with the way the clinic is run for a while, but this last issue has pushed me to my limit. I practice patience while on hold when trying to make an appointment, hold my tongue when the guy answering the main phone line tells me "you should use MyChart to make your appointment, honey," and grit my teeth when replying that I'm not near a computer and don't want to use my cell phone to log into the portal, but when I'm trying to get a simple message through and hit a wall...no. It's not like I was expecting a 24 hour turnaround, either. It's like the admin portion of this clinic is trying to be fully online automated with zero human contact, and if you don't toe that line you are a bother. They forget that I can bother some other cardiology office with my insurance dollars and copays. TL;DR: The docs and PAs are awesome, the management style of the clinic and staff customer service is not. read more

Dr Wang of Austin Heart South and his partners in sleep studies, Vital Sleep and Heart Hospital combine for a nightmarishly overpriced and under supported experience. Wish I had read the other reviews of Dr Wang relating to sleep study before I became their next guinea pig. On Apr 11,2021, I went into Heart Hospital for the study ordered by Dr Wang. One message had been left on my cell phone which was never confirmed with me ahead that the charges were $3244, more than 3x the cost of prior clinical sleep studies I'd received from other sleep doctors in Austin. The Heart Hospital never asked on arrival if I had received cost verification and I errantly proceeded, blind and uninformed. Since I learned of the exorbitant charges, I have called all parties at least a dozen times and received either the run around or no call back (this is what has happened for 10 days from Dr Wang's office...not one calI back or response from a letter I hand delivered almost a week ago now). If you have a problem with Dr Wang and Vital Sleep regarding a sleep study, expect that they will politely take your calls and Do Nothing...not even return one call. I have not raised my voice or treated anyone at Dr Wang's office discourteously...yet nothing whatsoever from his staff or him. After reading other Yelp reviews, it must simply be that Dr Wang and his office are incompetent in the area of sleep study procedures. They push it all off on Vital Sleep and Heart Hospital who are way overpriced and have no exceptional or ground breaking technologies. I made the mistake also of taking a referral from my cardiologist, Dr Carlino at Heart Hospital to Dr Wang, apparently simply because they are in the same group. Do NOT make the same mistake, Dr Wang may be a decent doctor in other fields, but he is a HUGE mistake for sleep study disorders. read more

Have been going here for many years, but am not sure I will go through a 3.5 hour drive to have an examination in a aging facility with personnel that has gone way downhill in quality. The physician was the main draw for me but now it is so obvious that they are having to march to the narrative of the left that the vaccine is clearly the best option for everyone and there are no side effects and completely safe. Really - folks- I guess the statistics are becoming so glaring that they cannot be disregarded much longer. Time will tell that tale. read more

Dr. Wang is kind, personable, and takes time to really get to know his patients and their needs. Dr. M. Scott Blois and the CHF Clinic team are great! Dr. Blois and his nursing staff spend time with you and go over written reports. Also, the nurses (Betty, RN, rocks) call you as needed to check in on your status!! Austin Heart is a very large practice with the best technology in town. I've seen cardiologists with ADC and Seton and they just do not have a system of care like Austin Heart and the Heart Hospital. I went to the Heart Hospital ER and the on-call MD called to let the ER and my regular MD know I was on my way!! I imagine personalized care at Austin Heart was what medicine was like before managed care and in the days of visiting doctors. read more

Dr Wang was great. He prescribed a sleep study but then it took forever for them to schedule it. Every time I called to check on it, I had to wait at least 20 minutes on hold to finally talk to someone who basically let me leave a message. Finally found out the problem was my insurance hadn't approved the procedure. So I called my insurance and they said, no problem and that they had advised Austin Heart it was ok. Finally got the test done and found I need a cpap machine. So that was literally a month ago and I keep calling (again on hold 20 mins every time), leave messages and no one calls me back to tell me what's going on. Worst customer service I've ever experienced from a doctors office. Do not go here. read more

I had such an amazing experience at Austin Heart. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the atmosphere is relaxing and non-intimidating, and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Wang. I've had a lot of doctors, but Dr. Wang is able to fully explain what's going on, ask all the questions he needs, and still chat enough about "normal" things. I felt like I could relate to him really well, and that he was thorough and communicated clearly. Finding all of those things in one doctor is AMAZING. I cannot recommend them enough. read more

Dr. Norman Risinger is as thorough as one could ask for, and at the same time caring and friendly, immediately putting me at ease with a feeling that I am in good and highly professional hands. It is a plus that there is a close network of specialists in the practice so that every aspect of cardiology is covered. Heart rhythm issues has its own specialists; same with various procedures at Heart Hospital. All are coordinated through Dr. Risinger, my cardiologist. At Austin Heart, I feel like I am getting not only a great doctor, but also a great team, but without the loss of that personal touch. I almost feel as though Dr. Risinger and his colleagues are members of my family, and that they care about my well being as a person, not just as a patient. I had heard that Austin is outstanding for its level of medical care. I believe Austin Heart is a stellar example of this well-deserved reputation. read more

Dr. Risinger (hope I spelled this right) is a caring cardiologist and is quite warm when you talk to him. He makes you feel comfortable and I am glad that i switched to him over the doctor I had in San Marcos (Dr. Norman Dean or maybe the other way around, I think?), which was with the same Austin Heart Practice. He remembers my case (even after a year) and is helping me decrease my meds now, till I eventually can be on the lowest dosage. Austin Heart has a payment plan that makes anyone without insurance able to make their appointments and able to still get their meds. They are wonderful at helping you get "hold over" meds until your appointment since they understand how important the medication is to the individual. The front end staff are wonderful and the nurses are friendly too. It's over all a wonderful experience to have and I am glad they are about 10 min from my apartments. So go see them if you need too and ask for Dr. Risinger! read more

Dr. Risinger is excellent, and my husband's care has been stellar. Our issue is with the south Austin office's administration of prescription orders. Often renewals are not submitted to the pharmacy for weeks, and are only submitted once you say you're personally picking up a print copy at the office. If submitted, we have had outdated dosages prescribed, so patients have to be very vigilant. If you are a patient be ready to spend hours on the phone trying to manage prescriptions. As of today, we have been waiting for over two months to have the dosage changed on Losartan, and as of tomorrow we will have been waiting a month for the current renewal of the same medication. My husband has gone a week without the meds because the office has not followed through on our calls or on the pharmacy's fax messages. We absolutely are looking to change to Dr. Risinger's other office which is not as close to our house, or to change doctors over this issue. We are very sad, but the situation is getting worse, and imperils my husband's health. read more

The worst clinic in Austin, period ! Every time I call to speak to a nurse, I get re-routed to an answer machine and no one ever calls back. The heart Doctor (D. I was scheduled to see Dr. Risinger at this facility in South Austin, just a short distance from my home. I was in and out of this facility in just about 35 minutes, but without feeling like I was part of a herd of cattle. Dr. Risinger was excellent, very warm, with a caring touch. I was scheduled for a stress test and an EKG about three weeks later in the same facility (although associated with St. David's). The treatment there was beyond amazing (except I thought they were trying to kill me on my stress test). Everyone was friendly, professional, engaging, and sometimes even funny. If you need a cardiologist, I suggest this facility. I've never been treated better anywhere! read more

Dr. Wang is a competent doctor. His competence is not my complaint. The reason I have only given a two star rating is that his staff is inefficient. I called in a prescription for medication to my pharmacy in the morning on Wednesday. By Friday morning, Dr. Wang had not yet authorized it. The problem is not that I have not seen him recently. I had seen him the day before I called in the prescription. So on Friday morning, I left a message through the patient portal, because I don't want to be a pest. On Friday afternoon, when the prescription still had not been authorized, I checked the patient portal to see what the problem was. I learned, to my dismay, that no one has read any of my messages since February 2020. I know there is a pandemic, but people are still able to work remotely and handle email. This is a persistent problem. I blame myself, a bit, because I should have remembered that the staff there is not on the ball. read more

The Coumadin clinic in Austin heart south ( just the nurse that assisted me) gets 5 stars for being so helpful. The other part of the office is a whole different story. The guy that works up front is beyond awful and so is the other receptionist. I told them TWO days ago that I was moving to Florida and if I can get my prescription there...someone was supposed to call me back and never did. I called and was transferred about three times and when I finally got someone they stated that no they can't help me bc I don't seek care with them anymore. Who cuts off a heart patients medication without any notice?!?! The next available appointment isn't until September with a new doctor and they wouldn't even listen to me when I asked for enough to last me until that appointment. Only stating that the doctor is on vacation and won't be back for 2-3 weeks and I can call back then. Bravo Austin heart! You seriously show your compassion and care for your patients who NEED THIER HEART MEDICATION! Don't have a pcp here since I JUST MOVED! So I'm basically having an anxiety attack over here bc I don't know what to do. And to make it even sweeter, the last time I was in the office l informed them I was having really bad heart palpitations and the nurse told me since it was close to closing time I should just "go to the emergency room since we are closing in thirty minutes or you can come in the morning" I WAS SITTING IN AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEM I don't understand how some people can be this rude and careless. My primary care doctor suggested I get a routine screening for my heart every 10 years and it had been ten years. I checked with insurance and they said they would cover it. Dr. Blois indicated on his coding that the procedure was "diagnostic" instead of "routine" and got my medical history wrong in his notes so my insurance didn't cover it. After telephone run-arounds between my insurance company, St. David's billing department, Austin Heart, and Dr. Blois' office, with each saying it was the other's responsibility, I wrote a letter to them all, explaining the circumstances. The only response I received to my letter was collection letters. After multiple phone calls, someone there finally started to address it , but Dr. Blois has not corrected the incorrect medical history. Doctor's never make mistakes. For a routine test, Dr. Blois billed over $200 to schedule it and then over $200 to read it, and the test itself was about $1000. It is almost impossible to get through the staff to talk to the doctor, and his coding is what determines whether the insurance companies pay. To St. David's which owns Austin Heart Hospital and which is not longer a Saint, (it is owned by Hospital Corporation of America), you are an account number for collection, not a person and Dt. David's couldn't care less about whether they screwed up once they put you get into their collection machine. read more

I've always had thorough and caring care from Austin Heart, whether my doctor, Dr. Wetherold, or when she's out, another member of the staff. After unnusual symptoms, I began taking my blood pressure and found them abnormally high for me. I called Austin Heart and they had me fitted with a 24-hour monitor and to get a test. After returning the monitor, a new prescription was called the next day and I was given an appointment to see how it was working. It is excellent. Everyone in the South Austin office is efficient, from receptionists to the doctors. And in my followup appointment, the 24-hour monitor results were shown to me on a computer, and everything explained. Whether there for an appointment or testing, I've never had a long wait, and everyone I've interacted with has been efficient and exceptional. The quick action every step of the way in this latest incident has been the way I find this staff operates. read more

Initial visit was a sham and we won't be back. Dr Risinger came in for a minute or 2, made small talk, did some very basic minor checkup on my wife then walked out. Then later got a big bill for a 45 minute extensive evaluation. I raised it to their internal audits and they said checked out because "'it has all the documentation". He has someone come in with him to do the documentation the moment the door opens, but they're not documenting the exam and conversation. They're filling out the documentation to cover their bases because it's the documentation not the actual visit that counts. Lots of red flags with the character and integrity of this practice. You can find better care with another doctor just as we did. And cheaper too. This place is professional insurance billers. They know all the documentation tricks to get every penny possible from you and your insurance, while delivering a sham of a consultation. read more
