Two staff members are to care for, bathe, feed, clean up after, and so on, 15 elderly who need a lot of support. The food is extremely unhealthy. No fresh vegetables and no fresh fruits. Most foods are greasy and overly salted. "Fruit" is canned and mixed in cool whip substance, and vegetables are from a can. Medical decisions are not in line with current medical protocols. If you place someone here, consider supplementing with a private assistant. Many of the reviews are culled as soon as someone places a person at the facility. Reviews are not offered after residents have been at the facility for a while. After my parent passed away, we did not receive a card or any kind of acknowledgement.

My first stroke of luck was in finding Deborah Sutton, Emeritus Northdale's competent and compassionate Community Relations Director. Deb stayed with me, whichever rehab or hospital Dad was transferred to. She visited Dad wherever he went and she became known as the "Milk Shake Girl" because Dad had trouble remembering names but never forgot the name of what she brought with her. Deb's compassion won Dad over, and although it still is taking longer than usual for Mr Independent to feel comfortable, he is finally adjusting and settling in nicely. Another great thing is that the staff all care. I can call anytime and get an update. I know them all by name and they have come to know when I want to be involved and when Dad is just being Dad. The ambulance people had to wait while they actually made the bed she was admitted to. TWO HOURS later, sick as a dog...not a SINGLE Nurse, CNA or staff member had been to see her. TWO HOURS she sat sick, and alone. We had to physically go confront them at 9:00PM to get staff to her. They took Her a sandwich. They did not change her out of her hospital gown- they did no medical care and did not even administer ANY of her meds that night nor the next morning.. NUMEROUS calls by numerous concerned family we're unanswered, and not one single call back. By the next morning my elderly mother was begging us to get her out of there and we called to let them know we were coming to remove her to please make the necessary arrangements. Once again FOUR hours worth of phone calls were unanswered and not a single call back. We literally had to show up at the place and threaten to call the sheriff. Unfortunately once we were able to get her out of the place we had to contact them to get an order for home health care which is where we brought her and the administrator of the facility told our Home Care Case Manager they C OULD write the order but THEY would NOT. Even after denying her basic medical/human care they refused to assist my mother in getting HOME HEALTH CARE! They said they COULD but they WOULDN'T.
