Two staff members are to care for, bathe, feed, clean up after, and so on, 15 elderly who need a lot of support. The food is extremely unhealthy. No fresh vegetables and no fresh fruits. Most foods are greasy and overly salted. "Fruit" is canned and mixed in cool whip substance, and vegetables are from a can. Medical decisions are not in line with current medical protocols. If you place someone here, consider supplementing with a private assistant. Many of the reviews are culled as soon as someone places a person at the facility. Reviews are not offered after residents have been at the facility for a while. After my parent passed away, we did not receive a card or any kind of acknowledgement.

My first stroke of luck was in finding Deborah Sutton, Emeritus Northdale's competent and compassionate Community Relations Director. Deb stayed with me, whichever rehab or hospital Dad was transferred to. She visited Dad wherever he went and she became known as the "Milk Shake Girl" because Dad had trouble remembering names but never forgot the name of what she brought with her. Deb's compassion won Dad over, and although it still is taking longer than usual for Mr Independent to feel comfortable, he is finally adjusting and settling in nicely. Another great thing is that the staff all care. I can call anytime and get an update. I know them all by name and they have come to know when I want to be involved and when Dad is just being Dad. He has been in their great care for 5 months now, and our entire family is very pleased with all they do for him. I visit at many different times and find every team member of every shift to be compassionate and loving for all of their residents. Dad is treated with dignity and respect. The service attitude is modeled throughout the entire complex. The facilities and grounds are beautiful and well kept. I only have one negative -- cell service is spotty indoors, but that gives me more reason to take Dad outdoors to explore the gardens (and beyond).

For the amount of money they cost you would think you would get adequate care. They take his laundry basket to take care of his clothes and don't return it for several days. He ends up not having any clothes to wear until one of the sons goes to the desk to complain. Because he doesn't have clean clothes to put on, his bedding gets soiled and they leave it like that, so we know he is not having his bedding changed in a timely manner. As health care providers, it is their responsibility to make sure their residents are cared for with dignity and respect. Thankfully he has family visit several times a week to keep up with the situation, God help any resident that doesn't have family nearby. There is another resident that is allowed access to others rooms and he steals things from them. I would never recommend this facility to anyone who loves their family member.

The ambulance people had to wait while they actually made the bed she was admitted to. TWO HOURS later, sick as a dog...not a SINGLE Nurse, CNA or staff member had been to see her. TWO HOURS she sat sick, and alone. We had to physically go confront them at 9:00PM to get staff to her. They took Her a sandwich. They did not change her out of her hospital gown- they did no medical care and did not even administer ANY of her meds that night nor the next morning.. NUMEROUS calls by numerous concerned family we're unanswered, and not one single call back. By the next morning my elderly mother was begging us to get her out of there and we called to let them know we were coming to remove her to please make the necessary arrangements. Once again FOUR hours worth of phone calls were unanswered and not a single call back. We literally had to show up at the place and threaten to call the sheriff. Unfortunately once we were able to get her out of the place we had to contact them to get an order for home health care which is where we brought her and the administrator of the facility told our Home Care Case Manager they C OULD write the order but THEY would NOT. Even after denying her basic medical/human care they refused to assist my mother in getting HOME HEALTH CARE! They said they COULD but they WOULDN'T.

I would like to express my feelings and observations regarding the rehabilitation center where my…read morefamily member has been staying for nearly 20 days. From what I have observed, there appears to be a shortage of staff to properly care for the patients, as well as a lack of adequate cleaning equipment and supplies. The person who cleaned today seemed to only do a superficial job, not because of a lack of effort, but because they simply do not have enough time or the proper materials to clean thoroughly. The CNAs are expected to change, bathe, dress, and make the beds for patients, while also serving meals and later collecting all the meal trays. That is an overwhelming workload for the number of patients they are responsible for. The nurses also appear to be overworked. It is noticeable that many staff members do not seem satisfied with their working conditions, and I understand that the pay may also be a contributing factor. In addition, there seem to be frequent changes in management. It is truly unfortunate because the facility itself is very nice. However, it does not appear to have the staffing levels, equipment, or resources needed to provide the quality of care that patients deserve. I do want to recognize that the staff members are kind, attentive, and quick to listen and respond when concerns are brought to their attention. My comments are directed toward the need for better support and resources, not toward the employees who are doing their best under difficult circumstances.
