Dr. Gordon and his staff have been taking care of our teeth since probably 1999 and even though I've since moved I still drive almost an hour each way to see him because there are very few dental offices/experiences like the one they provide. The entire staff is positive and friendly and really helpful with everything from scheduling, dealing with insurance and payment and/or treatment plans when needed, recommending helpful tips regarding day to day dental health. Just overall a really upbeat and knowledgeable crew. Importantly, Dr. Gordon is an excellent dentist both skill wise and making you feel comfortable and listening to what you have to say about issues, pain, etc etc and he always goes out of his way to make you comfortable. He's very respectful toward his staff and has had the same core team forever and I like that too. They all seem to enjoy what they do and it shows in how they care for their patients. Timely text and ph reminders 48 hours in advance are very helpful; once arriving the personable staff make every visit stress free and saying they are caring and friendly is an understatement. Prophys are done using both standard dental tools (such as pick, etc) as well as an ultrasonic scaler that reduces the amount of "picking" that needs to be done. Staff is cognizant of specific patient conditions/requests such as chair positioning, degree of reclining etc. read more

"Your teeth are boring, and that's what I like to see," said Dr. Gordon after my last visit. We've been using them for the past couple of years. A dentist we had gone to previously told my wife that she needed a bunch of work done (and were quite pushy about it), but we came here for a second opinion and Dr. Gordon said that her teeth were in good shape. Their staff is always courteous and friendly, getting an appointment is never a problem and they handle our insurance claims for us. Any they clean my teeth way better than I can. :) read more

I believe I have found a forever dentist! I went in for teeth cleaning. It was quick, painless and the hygienist did a great job. My teeth looked really good and very clean. I talked to Dr. Gordon about doing some minor work on my teeth to give me a better smile. I liked the idea and made an appointment for the next day. Again it was quick, painless and my teeth looked better than great. Also, insurance paid for most of it. Everyone in the office was extremely nice and made sure I was comfortable and made the whole office process a breeze. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The office is a cute renovated home that makes you feel cozy and at home and it's conveniently located near Hudson Bend. I have yet to wait more than 5 minutes to be seen. A little hard to find this place, but once you realize there's a blue roof you'll do okay. I'm fairly new to Austin, but am realizing that having a casual, laid-back dentist should've been expected. The office decor is centered around water sports and layered with family photos...I found this really relaxing. Especially for a first-time visitor, it was great not to experience the standard boring non-art and bland magazines. That said, I was encouraged to come 1/2 hour early for paperwork, which took 5 minutes. I'd suggest a call before you trek out there to see how they're doing time-wise. Or request to fill the paperwork ahead of time or online... Once in, Kenla the hygenist was super-pleasant and efficient. Dr. Gordon then came back, checked my teeth, and proclaimed them not an issue. My favorite kind of dentist visit! read more

My dentist of 20+ years retired this year and I decided to get a dentist near my home. I called for an appointment and specifically told them that I wanted cleaning only. They gave me an appointment for the next day, which was nice. I arrived at the office which was decorated in discarded wake boards, leaving me wondering whether I was in a dental office or some tiki bar. I was escorted to the back and the dental tech immediately tossed a lead apron across my lap. I asked what that was for and was told that it was for X-rays. I told her that I was there for cleaning only and she told me that I HAD to have x-rays. I asked if it were a law or something that I did not know of and she finally told me that it was policy. They would not even accept x-rays from my prior dentist. I gave in to the tune of $77 for unnecessary x-rays. I then was escorted to another room where I was treated to a slide show of the Gordon family vacation photos including many of the dentist posing shirtless with flexed muscles. Not exactly how I want to picture a professional. Then the dentist arrived and told me that he was going to conduct a "comprehensive cancer screening". I wasn't sure whether I need to strip down for skin examination and prostate exam, but was quickly reassured that it was oral only. So, I get a 30 second look in the mouth for $118. I finally got the cleaning which I had come there for and she actually did a decent job as far as I could tell, hence 2 stars instead of one. After the cleaning, Dr. Gordon arrived once again to recommend several thousand if not tens of thousands of dollars worth of dental work for a condition that I have had for 37 years and which has been easily managed with medical methods. Not only did I need to have these procedures, but they had to be done ASAP, that what I had was dangerous. I called my retired ex dentist and he confirmed that there was no way that he would recommend what had been prescribed for me, that we had managed the condition for decades and had had no problems. The bill for services with the included unnecessary services was approximately three times what I had been used to paying for regular cleanings at my old dentist. I would continue to use this dental office for cleanings only at what they charge for that service because she does a decent job, but have a real problem with Dr. Gordon and his pushing of unnecessary services. Oh...and it wouldn't hurt to lose the surf shop decor and family slide show. read more

I wanted to like this place. My parents come here and so I scheduled my annual cleaning (I live overseas) for when I was home. The appointment itselt was mainly fine - the office staff and dentist were nice and gentle. However, they tried to upsell me on refilling all my fillings since I was going back overseas. I got a second opinion later who told me I had about 2-3 more years left on those fillings. So yeah, big waste of money. Where things really went wrong was billing. They sent my bill to my parent's insurance and linked our accounts. I have minimal dental (with BC/BS) so I use an HSA account to pay for most of my appointments. My dental was never properly accounted for (since they screwed up the mailing) and I am STILL waiting for the correct billing so that I can get my money from my HSA (my appointment was in May 2010). When I contacted the office for help in re-filing, they told me they "don't do that". I understand most offices outsource that kind of billing but considering it was their mistake to start with, I expected a little bit more help or at least some guidance. BC/BS told me I could re-file the claim but Dr. Gordon's office refused to fill out the paperwork. I am really disappointed with the level of service I received after their own error; it seems like once they knew I was unhappy (and probably guessed that I'd never come back) the once-pleasant attitude totally changed. I'm now out over $250 (that if they'd billed properly I could have been reimbursed from my HSA) and will never EVER go back again. For the record, I did wait and exhaust all negotiations and requests for billing assistance with Dr. Gordon's office before writing this review (seven months later). If you have great dental to start with and your family all gets billed together, this practice will probably be fine (althought I'm still leery of their recommendation to re-do my fillings). read more

Just moved to Texas and Dr. Gordon was recommended to me and I was not disappointed in his service. I had a checkup, cleaning and needed a crown (which I knew I needed so wasn't a surprise) I liked his relaxing, friendly manner and thought Kenla was also very nice. He is expensive though, I paid double for a checkup and cleaning to what I paid in the Midwest plus I always got a tooth brush and floss but not with Dr. Gordon's office. Not to crazy about the office decor in the waiting room and thought the front staff were distant. also do not like the way you have to fill out new patient info on a erasable board with marker. Found that to be very cheap and not easy to do. read more

I have been seeing Doctor Gordon and great staff for the past 12 years and I would highly recommend his practice. When work needs to be done Dr. Gordon is through in explaining what needs to be done and why. Usually its something that he pointed out as a concern a number of years earlier and its now time to take action. His in house crown capability (Cerec) is amazing. I had 2 crowns put in a year ago and not only was it painless, I had the whole process completed in less than 2 hours. read more

I love this practice. From the minute I walk in the door, I feel at great about the care I am about to receive. Alicia greets me warmly as I walk in. She is always personable. Jenny is a phenomenal hygienist, and meticulously yet gently cleans my teeth. She is very knowledgeable and helpful, easily the best hygienist in town. Dr. Gordon is super thorough, yet down-to-earth and easy to talk to. I can tell he cares a lot about me and my dental concerns as a patient. The office is homey yet modern and squeaky clean. Dr. Gordon was applying fluoride to my gums for desensitization and it started to burn my lip, so I tried to tell him. He just kept on applying it and said that there was no way fluoride could burn. He was seriously abusive in his manner and after I left the office a small blister started to form on my lip. I called the office and told him, He basically told me I was lying. I told him I could come back in and show him. He told me not to. A few days later I received a packet of papers from an attorney asking me to sign agreements that I would not sue. This was UNBELIEVABLE to me. I had never even so much as hinted at anything like suing him. I had zero intention of doing so. The blister went away after about 24 hours. I just wanted him to acknowledge the reality that I HAD been in pain and not act like I was crazy for asking hm to stop the procedure. It was abusive to not stop when asked. He is a real piece of work. Would not go there again if he was the only dentist in the whole Austin area. I would travel many miles to find someone else. Luckily I found Dr. Tomasik who is a really good, as well as compassionate dentist. read more
