This review is based solely on the demeanor and attitude of the woman who called me at 9:30am Sunday June 25. If you have more than one employee calling on that Sunday, it was the lady with the Brooklyn accent. After she introduced herself, asked if we could do this initial information session via email or text. "No." Ok, I said, I happen to not be going to church this morning, but I would guess Sunday afternoon might be better for some people. She laughed at me condescendingly. Then she asked "so what is your situation?" I paused and said I didn't know what she was referring to, by "situation." She said well, your situation. Keep in mind I already filled out the internet form which asks all the demographic ?s. I said, do you mean education? Finances? Career? She snorted and said why are you bringing up money? She asked a few questions like what are you looking for in a man, what fun things do you do that you could do together, which I answered of course. The cherry on top was being informed she needed me to come to Park Crest (and snorted again when I didn't immediately know what neighborhood that was in) for a 90 minute interview. And that I needed to do that on a weekday, at 10a, 1p or 330p. I told her I couldn't because I'm a lawyer at a state agency and it's not convenient to take time off for something I consider discretionary. Plus, I was thinking, you want my money, so you should be a little more accommodating. At the end of the conversation it was clear that she had taken a dislike to me, and I said I would invest my time in another means of meeting someone. I joined this site in a weak moment. I'd grown sick of dating sites that always over promised and under delivered. And yet I still very much wanted to have a good woman in my life. So I spoke with the very persuasive lady and took the bait. Huge mistake as it's turning out! I made it very clear to the lady that looks are very important to me and she assured me that she personally knew several women who would fit my requirements nicely! Well I signed up for 6 introductions and I've met 4. I don't count the one that never called me back. I was assured that a great deal of care went into choosing these introductions. To that I'm in a position to now say bullshit! These were very ordinary women nothing special in any way. I'm supposed to get two more but I'm pretty sure there won't be much improvement. I'm pretty sure they take anyone foolish enough to sign up for this on the female side and proclaim a match. To that again I say bullshit! Now I'm what most would consider an attractive guy of some means so I'm not asking for anything I wasn't willing to provide. It was a very costly lesson to learn that these guys are no different from dating sites just a hell of a lot more expensive! They prey on lonely hearts of which there are too many in this world! That they deceive and profit on this is shameful and you can only hope that karma will catch up to all the bastards. And it's not just me. When I compared notes with the women they felt equally hosed. If these guys can manage to surprise me with the last two I'll pull this review. As a general rule when I write reviews, I try to stay positive while not dipping below 2 stars. However, my experience with MatchMakers of Austin precludes me from my self-imposed rule but I will remain devoid of emotion. I moved to Austin in June 2021 and only knew two people here. I tried all the normal avenues for seeking love, the web, but I kept coming up with emotionally unstable, unavailable, dishonesty, or individuals that didn't mesh well with my own personality. It's life and love, neither are easy so I figured there must be a better way. Austin MM called me in to meet and I knew they had a sales pitch and there were contracts to sign but I was so distracted I didn't think to ask what all a background check encompassed. That's extremely important consider. My "agent" was nice, and took 3 hours to get to know me. "Wow" I thought, they're taking the time to understand me, this is exactly what I needed! They took my picture and kept all my information and while I left the establishment minus 6k I was "guaranteed" 8 meetings and the birds were singing on my trip home. Here are some of the details of my time with them. 1-You don't get to see pictures of the individuals. Since appearance is subjective, this is part of how they can keep you in the system b/c they think looks has little to do with attraction than all their predefined characteristics. 2-The background check from what they SAY they do - criminal record, financial history, employment status, marital status doesn't match what they actually do. There is upcoming legal action against this very point. 3-The "agent" I met for 3 hours wasn't the individual that matched me, it was a woman in Miami. So already there is some information lost between the two. 4-I listed Christian as for me faith is important. Of the 8 women, 2 were Jewish and one atheist. 5-One woman was from Colombia South America but I requested "southern" although I didn't think I needed to specify southern... AMERICAN. I reasserted this in a subsequent meeting & this comes up again. 6-One woman was still involved in a relationship when I met her. I'm not sure I can say this is MM's fault but some diligence should have been made to ensure she was emotionally available. 7-Two of the suggestions were more than 90 miles away. I did say "local" and I had to reiterate this b/c someone that far away isn't dating, it's called a journey. However, my agent said "well we have some people from California come to Texas to date". I said that's no good, I didn't hire you to find me people thousands of miles away. 8-One woman hadn't talked to the service in two months, didn't know I was going to call (they call both clients to make sure the match is ready to go) and had a boyfriend. I was charged for this date. 9-One woman specifically said she couldn't date in the holiday season so I was charged for this date. 10-To summarize points 8 & 9, once a match is made, ie they give you the number of the client, that is a match. I was charged for two individuals even though they weren't available to date and I never met them, which should have been taken care of by the service beforehand. 11-After telling them I shouldn't be charged for dates I never went on, my agent tried to upsell me and I quote, "Now that we really know what you want, I have several women that are perfect for you. For 1500 I can offer you 8 more matches". I was denied two of my dates and they had the audacity to suggest I should use their service again. 12-After I posted on yelp they wanted to "rectify the situation". I said ok. The first match moved here from China 20 years ago. I told them this doesn't fit my criteria. The male agent tried to convince me for 30 minutes we were a good match. My rebuttal was "if you're not attracted to male yet you're set up with a man it's not a match. No amount of convincing will change that." I "took one for the team" but alas speaking English was a struggle and there was no chemistry. It wasted my time, resources and cost me a match. Since Jan I've had one "match" who didn't meet my criteria which indicates a lack of clients. Now I realize love is a fickle emotion and I hold no person accountable for "guaranteeing" love. The first match I made is one of my best friends & a truly sweet woman. So, I can't say the experience is 100% bad. However, it is of my sorrowful opinion Matchmakers is a money-making business that don't hold true to their word or agreement, are less concerned about finding you someone ideal than giving you a match to fill the quota, and finally they don't seem to always take into consideration your personality, only their own algorithms. Also of the 8 dates I went on, several ended up on various dating websites again. I'm not a rich person and I'm looking for assistance meeting new women since I moved here recently, and thought using this service would cut down on wasted time. Hello. I want to offer as practical and unbiased a review as possible, while adhering to the truth of my experience. I have no interest in slandering this company or any of its individuals, so I'll keep names undisclosed, and know they can do good, but in this case I feel there was a promise of service that was betrayed. I'll be as specific as possible in my reasoning. First, the good. My initial consultation was excellent. If I were reviewing only her job, this would be a five star review. She runs a great sale. Unfortunately, there's more to it than that. I began at Austin Matchmakers at the end of September, and was told to expect that my first date could take up to two weeks to be arranged. I received my first match on October 13. So far, so good. I have no criticisms of the individual they chose, though after our series of dates, it didn't work out. No harm, no foul. On October 24, I inquired after my next match, and was told there may be another, my designated matchmaker just needed to confirm the prospective match wanted to meet. All good. But then I reached out on November 26th after over a month of silence, asking for an update. My matchmaker responded that yes, she had a match in mind for me, and I should expect an update within the next couple of days (I have email correspondence confirming all of this). Unfortunately I have not heard from them since. This is to say, it's been over two months not only since they last assigned me a match, but nobody has reached out to even provide an update or apologize for the delay. I might expect some delay due to the holiday season, but no proactive efforts on their end in over two months? I genuinely feel like I have been scammed. I gave them a significant sum of money, and with the exception of a single match, have been ultimately forgotten. They essentially took my money and called it a day. Which is unfortunate, because I really wanted to like them. I had a lot of hope wrapped up in this expense. If they were to offer me a refund of the services I paid for, I would be willing to take down this review, but until then I feel obligated to share this experience so nobody else drops several thousands of dollars on a service that doesn't communicate or execute on the service they promise. read more

This matchmaking service, which they professed to be the best in Austin was just "too good to be true". I paid "plenty of money" for this service and was not given anything that I was promised. When I signed up, I was in a 2hr intake with the person asking what type of woman I was searching for and asking very specific questions. They promised that it would be easy finding the woman I was seeking. All Lies. The women that they matched me up with were the complete opposite of who I was seeking. I let them know, several times, that I expected what I was promised and they totally ignored my request. I was setup with a woman who claimed that she hadn't been on a date with Austin Matchmakers in 2yrs. I believe they were just setting me up with whomever they wanted. You would think with the population of Austin there would be plenty matches to choose from. At least, that's what they make you believe. But they then set me up on several matches with women who were not even in the Austin metro area. I just couldn't believe it. The thing is all these matches counted as part of my total count of matches that I purchased. I'm not a disgruntled client. Most of the women were nice but not my type at all and not what I was seeking. I'm just very upset that they lied and never listened to me when I asked them to check my intake to see what I had originally requested. I also feel that the contract has been breached, but unfortunately, the contract itself is unenforceable, so there is no point to pursue it. I was consistently told to be patient and understanding when match after match was a complete misfit for me. I am a vegetarian and the first match was with a man who is the business of selling hunting weaponry. I am spiritual, but dislike religious zealots. My second match kept sending me Christian messages in spite of the fact that we had not met and I had not responded to his messages. I was "forced" to go out with this man, but told that it wouldn't count against me. It wasn't until much later that I figured out that they need women to date the men who (in my case) were too old for me but clearly thought they deserved someone younger. Several of the men had retired to Sun City and I live a vibrant life in Austin. I am independent professional woman and was matched with a man whose idea of a good fit was someone who thought I should be ready to travel the world with him after one telephone coversation. You get the picture. The truly irksome thing about this entire process is that the claim they make as to why this process is superior to on-line dating is because they learn from your feedback and tailor each match closer and closer and to your perfect match! This is totally untrue. Everytime I spoke with someone, it was a different person and she know nothing about the "feedback" I had shared at length in telephone conversations. No learning about their customers. Outrageous amount of money. And yes, the sales team on the front end is very good at their job! They set you up with ladies with opposite political and/or religious views yet I told them in my interview I wasn't interested in meeting. Time in the interview) as I live in north Austin and getting to south Austin just takes too long. Almost all of the matches were 20-25 miles out of Austin. I could go on and on how they told me how the traffic was in Austin and they lived in Florida. I asked fir someone who was of a sporty nature and golfed. Every single match the ladies didn't golf frequently per my request. I said I live in north Austin and they gave me three ladies who lived in Kyle, TX - simply was too far to drive and I rejected the matches yet the were the judge and the jury and they counted the matches against my purchased allotment even though we didn't speak to each other. Horrible, horrible and unethical. You'll do much better on Match.com Avoid, run, and definitely stay away. They have more excuses than any of my golf buddies. Totally unethical experience. On July 8, 2021, I went in for a 6:00 p.m. appointment and met with Sheri (no last name was given). She said she was from the San Antonio office filling in. I spent almost two hours in a very detailed interview regarding what I was looking for in a man. It was extremely detailed. At the end of the interview, I was quoted the price of $5995.00. I asked to think about it and Sheri said the deal was only good right then and there. They were very convincing, especially in my vulnerable state and the charge was put on two credit cards. However, I accept full responsibility for being stupid. The very next morning (less than 12 hours later), I texted Sheri and requested to cancel. I also tried calling the office several times. Sheri called me and told me the contract was "iron clad" and that it could not be cancelled. I was told the same thing by Tian, my "matchmaker." I even admitted my mistake and requested only half of the money back and Tian said no. Those were the only two people I had been able to reach. At that point, I told Tian that I wanted to dispute the charges and not to send any matches until this was resolved. I disputed the charges with Citibank (the charges were on two different Citibank cards). It took two months, and in the end, they found in their favor because I went to their office. I thought I had three days to change my mind but apparently that is not the case since I went to their office. This was explained verbally to me from a Citibank representative in mid-late September. On 9/29/21, I decided to make the best of it and told Tian to call me with matches. The first one I spoke with on the phone (no pictures allowed) and he was 100% opposite of what my requirements are. I sent Tian an email expressing my frustration. I paid $6000 for them to vet these people so I don't have to. I also found out he paid much less than I did. Because we were so incompatible, we decided not to meet. On 11/18/2021, I called trying to find out the name of a manager, as I had not received any more calls about potential matches. Megan was the name I received and I requested that she call me, which never happened until March 2022. I found the name and number of the Principal of the company, Mike Carroll. I called the number listed there and got a recording that said, "If you know your party's extension, please enter it now." Of course, I don't have an extension and it just hung up on me. I looked into small claims court but found out that no one mans the office on a regular basis so there wouldn't be anyone to receive a summons, which is required. THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM!!!! Also on 11/18, I was told about another possible match. He and I spoke on the phone and decided to meet. It went okay but he did not meet my top two requirements. Again, I can do this well on a dating site so why did I pay $6000? To add insult to injury, Tian asked ME to call HER on 11/30/21 about any new possible matches "because she had a lot of people to call that day." Are you kidding me?????????????? This is literally her job. I said no, that she needed to call me. I also asked Tian on a couple of occasions to set me up with a different matchmaker because the men she presented to me were unacceptable. Both times, she argued with me about why that's not a good idea. The real reason is because there aren't any others, at least in this area. I honestly don't know how she sleeps at night. On 11/23/21 I sent another email to Tian regarding not receiving a call from Megan as well as confirming that she will be the one to call me on 11/30/21 since that's what I'm paying for. No response. The next communication was in February, 2022 and I went on my second date. He was physically disgusting and quite forward. I never received a call or an email response until March 2022, after my complaints to the BBB and Texas Attorney General. Once they got those complaints they set me up with a nice gentleman (my third date) but we were incompatible. It was after that when I finally received the call from Megan promised months ago. We talked about my frustration with the three dates I've had and she tried to upsell me another program to get "counseling." Seriously??? I'm confident they don't have "inventory" and they knew this at the time they took my money. I don't know how long the contract is good for but I only get 12 matches. It's been just about a year that I've signed up and they've only contacted me about four men. I've had only three dates plus the conversation with first one I never met. The first two of these dates were my worst dates ever, and I'm 60. I haven't had a single phone call or any communication from this company since March 2022. Then they lied about the race of one match they sent me. Then sent me another match that worked different schedules than me. Yes, I did complain, but was told they're only obligated to provide the number of matches you buy even if you don't meet. Also, don't buy into it's better to meet a person without knowing what they look like beforehand like I did. They'll tell you they have a lot of new people that joined. I call BS on the whole thing. Once you are in their office (WHICH BY THE WAY IS JUST A RENTED ROOM AT A REGUS FACILITY), they make all kinds of lofty promises to get you to sign up and pay a large sum of money. In fact, the person whom I met for my "informational meeting" (Trudy) over a year ago told me that my expectations of a potential date are super easy to fulfill, and that they have many ladies (they call them "referrals", which is a weird term for potential dates) that would love to meet me. Once they got my money, they ONLY produced EXCUSES and found only a couple of ladies/"referrals" who WERE ABSOLUTELY NOT within my criteria. They tell their clients they will be notified by both E-mail and a phone call when they have been matched and matches can take 2 to 3 weeks. They call sometimes when they should call without fail and matches can take 5 weeks. They do not consider differences in lifestyles - a pretty important consideration when you're talking about a life-long partner. They do not listen to the feedback provided and do not improve with time. In a matter of speaking, they throw the paint on the wall and hope something sticks.
