I paid for three dates with It's Just Lunch in 2022 and only received two. The intake interview was rushed, my stated boundaries were ignored, and I was repeatedly matched with people who didn't fit what I asked for. I was even asked to write a disclosure about my visual impairment -- something no other service has ever required and completely unnecessary given my independent lifestyle. My first date ended with me being stood up, and communication from the company steadily declined afterward. Matches I expressed interest in were suddenly "declined," and eventually my matchmaker stopped contacting me entirely. I signed up for It's Just Lunch October of 2021. After one month zero dates. So, I decided to place membership on hold due to holidays. January 2022, I contacted my matchmaker Hazel to start dating. Now, it's February and no dates. I send Hazel email requesting to cancel membership, no response to email, but few days later, finally a date. He is not available until last week of March! Date was fine and I contacted him and never saw him again. Now, it is April. On April 12th my house is hit by tornado, I live in Salado, Tx I send Hazel pictures requesting to pay for 4 months and then refund for remainder. Again, no response to email, She calls saying she was sorry and natural disaster hit my home to call her to set up a time to talk. I told her I was not available by phone because I want everything in black-and-white via email. She responds saying that it has to be discussed via phone. Guess what she sends an email saying are you ready to date. so there is a pattern I have a fit and miraculously she set me up on a date. what a horrible corporation I could really use the $2600 I paid though due to my house being hit by a tornado but I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen. I was a member for two and a half months. They showed me three profiles of men who I could go on a date with. One guy never got back with them, meaning he passed on me. I scheduled a date with the second guy but I ended up sitting at the restaurant alone, after he apparently stood me up. They never gave me an explanation as to what happened. By the time they sent me a third profile about a month later, I had already met someone on my own. I really expected more interaction with my matchmaker and more dates in that time period. I don't think they have very many men who pay for this service, so they are not able to actually match you with someone you would be interested in. I can see why this site is so lowly rated, by far the worst experience with a dating service I've ever had by far. First they try to funnel you into automated services and will not answer the phone no matter how many times you call, then when you do get a hold of them they will hang up on you mid sentence if they don't like what they hear? I was asked what I did for a living "because its dating for professionals" whatever that means? and when I told them that I'm a Caregiver for my Mom! they just hung up on me? what kind of society sees taking care of the elderly as a negative? they could have been PROFESSIONAL about it and simply said that I'm probably not a good fit for their site! but instead they hang up never to answer the phone again...same with their corporate office, no answer just machines! what is this world coming too? I don't even need these stupid dating sites to find a date, but it is supposed to be easier right? BULL. Stay away, anything will be better. They tell you about these matches before signing up and oddly you never even get matched with them after signing up. I signed up for a year got 1 decent date, the rest were so far off it was a joke. I still to this day tell family and friends about some of these dates because how ridiculous they were. Super pushy sign up tactics by the director constantly keep getting calls to sign up even though I clearly don't have means to do so (starting my own business). Given the same line each time after telling her I can't do it right now. It's to the point of me considering them being a telemarketer. Because for one they don't even ask anything personal like how is your business going or calling to check in see if you might be ready. She just jumps right in telling me about matches and sign up again for the service. I thought they were specialized in dealing with busy professionals? So after you sign up the director will disappear and you are left with a wing person. Wish there was a rating for ZERO stars. I agree with 5 of the 7 reviews posted here. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! This is somehow a legal scam. They have ZERO interest in finding you a match. All they want to do is set dates (appts). I know from an inside source that they get "spiffed"/paid based on how many dates (appts) they set per day. So their goal is to hit their number - not actually provide a true match. Also- i have not been a paying member for well over 3 yrs yet they will continue to call me randomly on and off and as of late they call me SEVERAL times a day using shady techniques in their voice mails like "i was speaking to mutual friend XX recently about you and you MUST call me back because we have the PERFECT match for you." Then i confirm with mutual friend XX that the convo never even occurred. Other times they leave messages and do not say who they are calling from but that it is URGENT that i call them (Tiffani) back. On 4 (not 1 or 2 but 4) separate occasions i was "matched" with guys who were opposed to one of my biggest hobbies (i like to drink wine and they set me up with guys who did not drink and did not want to be around drinkers). After i gave IJL feedback, they told me they were not aware that the guy did not drink. Clearly they are not doing their screening and matching very well or this would not have happened. This is a huge part of their marketing (solid screening), how they claim to set themselves apart from other services/and can justify their rates and they simply do not do that. I would highly suggest trying any and ALL other avenues for dating and never use IJL. I have never seen such unprofessional services and business practices in my life. It is not an inexpensive service and you do NOT get what you pay for. I think one star may be an exaggeration. They interviewed me and took photos. They asked me what type of man I was looking for. I explain to them and show them pictures of the type of man that I like. Then they set me up on dates that didn't even come close to what I had described to them. They actually told me my date was 6'1" When I showed up he was at best 5'7" Nothing wrong with that height. But I had clearly stated 5'10"and above. They set me up on another date and when we arrived it was not open for lunch. It was a huge waste of money with empty promises. I would not recommend the service for anyone. RUN!! I'm not surprised to see one star from EVERYONE that has dealt with IJL. Where do I start? IJL was so BAD that corporate office took over the Austin franchise mid-way through my contract. I tried to best to get out of my contract after my second date who I'm almost certain did NOT even LIKE women but to no avail. My dates were poorly chosen for me and I had little to NO common interests at all. After each date I reported as requested so my dates could 'improve' moving forward. Today, after my last date, I phoned Debbie to inquire as to how my dates are selected. She went on to tell me that it is discussed between a group of matchmakers and chosen accordingly. However, after I pressed her for more information she admitted that there are only two criteria in the contract with which they set dates: age and marital/family/children status. She said that they may or may not consider all of the other factors. Some of my factors were religion based and she said that they absolutely do not consider that when choosing a date regardless of your preference. I cannot imagine why it takes a full panel of the so-called experts to choose someone within my age group. Which time I spoke with her I felt rushed and this time was no different. She interrupted me and told me that she had a meeting to go to and that she will write down all of my information and hung up the phone she did not wait for me to say goodbye, she just hung up. It is also very apparent after speaking with my last four dates, that they are begging for men. They are constantly calling men back because they have very few in their dating pool. They are offering men discounts and special prices to return. One of my dates said he went on a couple of dates without even having a contract with them. So, on that alone their practices are discriminating, and shady. I will definitely be reporting in great detail to the Better Business Bureau as well as the Attorney General. Their contract is pretty iron-clad although it's very simple. Even the misleading information I was verbally promised when joining IJL, the contract explicitly states that anything said verbally between the clients is null and void. This basically says that they can lure you in with false promises (which they did to me) but have no intention or contractual obligation to fulfill these promises. Because of how the contract Is worded: "We may attempt to take your preferences into consideration when assigning a match," they can (and will) basically set you up with ANYONE they want. It's not illegal but extremely misleading and unscrupulous in its practices. I was stocked and deceived. I was led to believe my hard-earned money would be out to work in a professional and caring manner. Horrible experience! I wish I had read some of the reviews before spending 2K on their "service". In fact, I wish I could rate them less than 1 star, however that is not an option. EVERYTHING that was listed by other people as negative is true. They will set you up with people you would never choose on your own. They LIE to get you to go on dates with their choices. One example, they wanted to set me up with a guy who was older than my age range. I said No, but they tried anyway to convince me otherwise. They finally gave up, but a few weeks later, they called back with another "great guy" who sounded a lot like the one before, only this time he was 3 years younger. I agreed to see him and although he was a nice guy, he told me during the date how old he was. He was 3 years older, matching exactly the previous guy they were trying to set me up with! They lied about his age to get me to date him! How professional! I was very upset about this and because I refused to take their phone calls, they froze my account. That was 6 months ago and I have not heard from them at all. They are not interested in women, since they have so many of them. Guys, on the other hand, are a different story. There is a scarcity of men in this service. A guy friend of mine who signed up with them before I did, is getting calls from them all the time. If he freezes his acct for even a few weeks, he immediately gets the usual super-friendly-nauseating messages, informing him that they have found the love of his life and he has to call them asap! After years of being with them, he has finally blocked their number. Believe me, match.com and eharmony are a lot cheaper and at least you get to choose your match, to see what the other person will look like before you meet them and for a lot less money! Well....... Let me just say that I really wish I had done more research before blowing $3000. The sales rep told me a great story and I fell for it. Said I would get weekly emails with matches to say yes or no to. I signed up It was 2 weeks before I could even have my face to face to confirm identity(which is only a 15 min FaceTime call and still took them 2 weeks to accomplish) Immediately got 2 matches which I said yes to and went on dates 1.5 weeks later One of these men lives 2.5 hours from Austin Now over 30 days since I've received an email about a match No more dates have happened and I am 6 weeks into my $3000 contract I was told they had "hundreds" of clients in Austin I am not so picky that they cannot find me a date If they have that clientele then why have I not gotten an email in over 30 days?!?! Quite frustrated with the lackadaisical method of matching, impersonal service, and lack of transparency. I signed up 4 months ago at the cost of $4500 and I fear I have been taken for a fool. The available pool of male candidates and the quality/experience of the matchmakers makes for a perfect storm of disappointment. I truly want to have a local or semi-local matchmaker that has better communication skills and is more honest. Off the charts bad. Let me give some specifics that support 100% what the other 1-star reviewers have published here as well, and equip you with the knowledge to make the decision that's right for you. First, let me say that I've been MARRIED for four months now to the girl of my dreams whom I found on my own. I also moved across the country from Austin several months ago. I repeatedly told their sales monkeys this, but that apparently didn't resonate (or they promote cheating), because I got get another over-enthusiastic call from an overly-bubbly rep in Austin yesterday who wanted to talk about my "membership." If they had just shut up, I probably wouldn't post a review, so I'm pleased to share my experience with you on the basis of them also being idiots. Should you be so desperate and forlorn to still give this a shot following this review, it's your own fault. 1. It's VERY expensive and they do not deliver. For a couple of grand, you're guaranteed 12 matches. I went on three, and none of my "matches" even came remotely close to anyone I would ever be seen with. As far as I'm concerned- that was three hours lost I will never get back. 2. Their matchmaking monkeys are more interested in checking a box off that you went on your twelve dates than actually LISTENING to your feedback so that they don't match you with non-compatibles. 3. This business is unethical in that they do not stand behind their claims. I repeatedly suggested they refund my money, and they repeatedly just glossed over that suggestion. 4. The level of interest in you - as a person - is feigned in each contact you have with this business. The matchmakers are over-the-top enthusiastic and sickeningly sugary-sweet on the phone...and that's irritating when the quality of matches they give you just degrades from date one. It is highly unlikely that don't asses their clientel and an evolving buisness strategy. It's also unlikely they remember every client's personally for match making. - DISRESPECTFUL - During the process of being marketed at, I was told it's only x amount of dollars. - Marketers - Goal marketing not match making - Secretary avoided at all cost telling me the cost, so my phone number was obtained and a marketer/ "matchmaker" could call me. Positive - Learn how to market - Not all their tactics, but they use positive upbeat language and tones to get you to purchase. Don't do this service. Unfortunately, after I signed up I got a lot of negative feedback from other people (some who were still using the service). First, they will set you up with a lot of people...people who are appropriately matched is very hit or miss. My impression is that you get set up with your best matches in the beginning and then it starts a downward slide. You will get matched with some decent guys, but the caliber is no different that what you get on-line (I also do e-harmony). I expected a much higher calibur for the amount of money ($1800 for one year). When you give feedback that the matches aren't fitting your critieria (physically, age, # of kids, etc.), their response is that they don't want you to miss a good match. If it doesn't match my criteria then whose definition of a good match are they using? Some people were totally, absolutely not appropriate matches and I began to feel like I was being passed around to fill other people's 12 person minimum matches. I paid too much for that. Everytime you have feedback or a complaint they had a rehearsed response ready for you. You never get to speak to a director again after your initial interview and your feedback on dates is passed through a 'date arranger' person. The best part is that at the end of the contract, you expect someone will contact you for some sort of exit interview to get feedback (and I would guess to try to get you to sign up again--like most well run businesses). However, when my date arranger realized my contract was ending the following week and I asked about their exit process (because I wanted to give constructive feedback, not because I wanted to sign up again), she responded that there was no exit process, told me good bye and hung up the phone. Unprofessional, Ineffective and Unethical If this review doesn't deter you from joining It's Just Lunch, then please Google "IJL complaints" and "IJL scam" to read the horrible experiences of IJL clients around the country. IJL was sued in NY for fraud http://www.balestriere.net/News/News_Balestriere_PLLC_Its_Just_Lunch_Class_Action.php. These postings barely scratch the surface of the thousands and thousands of complaints filed against this unethical company. My personal experience with IJL: 1. My first date was with a man (T.) who was unemployed and was sleeping on a buddy's couch while he figured out what to do with his life. Isn't IJL supposed to be a dating service for professionals? T. told me that he had been with IJL off and on for 10 years because the company kept offering him "freebies" whenever their male dating pool was low. So even though the rest of us were paying big bucks (in my case $1900), T. was dating for free because the company could not attract enough eligible bachelors to send on dates with the women. 2. I was told by date J. that IJL found him by searching through the county's divorce records (which are public) and soliciting him to join the service. The reason IJL has to go this route is because they don't have enough men who willingly join their service. If you're a woman, this is not good. This means the pool of available men is very small. It also means that men have to be "sold" on the service (like T. and J.) instead of willingly wanting to join the service. 3. I had a date with a man who reached across the table and ate half of my cheeseburger. 4. I had a date with a man who inappropriately touched me within 5 minutes of meeting (and no, he did not have my permission to touch me). 5. I had a date with a man who told me all about his girlfriends, his girlfriends' drama, and that he had no intention of marrying again. If I'm looking for a serious relationship, why in the world was I set up with someone who is dating half of the women in Austin and who has zero interest in a serious relationship? The vast majority of my dates were with men who did not meet my dating criteria as clearly expressed to my director and coordinator. Some of these dates were even humiliating and overall were a waste of time in terms of meeting my expectations as expressed to IJL. Here is what is lacking in IJL's service: 1. They don't have enough quality men in their dating pool. The men, for the most part, aren't any different than the ones you meet in the bars. But the catch is that you're paying a premium to meet guys you could meet on your own downtown. 2. IJL doesn't listen to your specific dating criteria and just matches you with someone who meets your age specifications or has the same interests as you. It's as if the IJL coordinators just look at your age and list of interests and say, "You travel. He travels. You workout. He works out. You're both the same age. Perfect match." Well, if it were that simple, we wouldn't need dating services. IJL looks at the superficial and doesn't pay any attention to the deeper aspects of one's personality or requests. This is a serious flaw in their business model. eHarmony does a much better job of matching you with someone who meets your personality criteria...for much less money. 3. IJL is slow to respond to complaints and does not offer refunds. I finally complained to my coordinator after being set-up on numerous dates that did not meet my expressed criteria. I asked for a refund and to be contacted by a director immediately. My request was replied to with a snarky, "We don't give refunds! I'll have someone call you." Click. A more appropriate and professional response would have been, "I understand you're upset. And yes, admittedly, you've had a few negative experiences. Let me escalate your request to a director and someone will get back to you today or tomorrow at the latest." FIVE DAYS LATER, a director called me and said something along the lines of, "I'm making you my top priority. I'm going to make it my personal mission to set you up with dates who meet your criteria." Well, why was I not being set up with dates who met my criteria to begin with? Why did it take an entire business week for a director to call me and promise me what the company should have been doing all along? After the negative experience I've had and IJL's refusal to refund my money, I posted reviews all over the Internet. This has prompted harassing calls by IJL asking me to take down the reviews because they were hurting their business. Too bad. If IJL were an effective, ethical, and professional service, then they wouldn't be the focus of poor reviews and law suits. Buyer beware! Don't join this service. I had tried them once before, years ago. Tiffany cold called me repeatedly this spring. She is a good salesperson. Even though I am happy as a single person; it's pretty natural to not want to be alone. Tiffany and IJL are trained to prey upon that aspect of a person; and that's how they obtain members. I got roped on April 9th and like an idiot, I gave Tiffany my credit card number over the phone. Later that night, I saw this yelp page and realized the magnitude of my mistake. I tried to obtain a refund from IJL before the the charge cleared on my bank account. IJL issues no refunds. They had my $ and had achieved their goal. I tried to dispute the charge with my bank. My bank could not get a refund even though I had gone on zero dates. I tried to be optimistic and chose to let them set me up on one date. The person they set me up with was so far from anyone I would ever date, it was blatant disregard to anything I ever told them regarding my type of person I would date. That was over 2 months ago and I thankfully haven't heard from them. They truly are a scam. I am sad that I threw $2200 out the window-don't make this mistake yourself. These people must be desperate. I went and met with one of their matchmakers over 5 years ago and they still call me relentlessly. I could tell they weren't going to listen to me when they were already trying to talk me in to dating outside of my preferred age range and ethnicities other than what I had listed, so I never signed up. That didn't stop them from calling me over and over and over again even after telling them to remove me from their list. I have told them that I'm married just so that they would stop calling, but even that didn't work. They clearly have no respect for their "clients". I'd like to start off by saying that I've tried many other services like Match.com and eHarmony.com before trying IJL. I had a little more luck with the eHarmony site than I did with Match. One turned into a short relationship. I found that many of the men on these sites were men in the military or in the reserves. I've tried having a few relationships with these men, on and off these sites, but unfortunately I found that many of them were struggling with PTSD. I made it a point to tell IJL not to send me on any dates with these men as it was very difficult for me emotionally. After being heartbroken from my last relationship, I still did not want to give up on love. I remembered hearing about IJL on Oprah years back and I thought that maybe I'd just look into it one night. I just wanted to find out how much this service would cost. I was immediately called and set up with an appointment to meet my matchmaker. I was hesitant to keep the appointment because I thought the cost was too steep. However, I got dressed and showed up and went into my initial meeting with the attitude of going to find out information. I was pleased when I arrived that it was discrete, in a suite of a professional building , and was done by appointment. They greet you with your choice of coffee and fixings as well as water. They make you feel like you are truly cared about. Yes, I knew this was most likely smoke and mirrors, but I also knew that I had just moved to a town where I had no friends or any real connections. So, I could either stay at home and sulk about the last relationship I was in or I could go in with an open mind and treat this as practice or just something to do, and possibly meet some nice guys. I was looking for something real, but I tried to go in with realistic expectations that they may likely not find what I'm looking for. It sucks that we live in an age where dating is so difficult. Work takes up a good chunk of our time, and as we get older we're less likely to meet people at work or in school (if you're still in school) which most people on here aren't. A good reason we join services like this is because most of our friends or acquaintances are either married, have kids, or both. So, this review may not be so much for IJL as it is for those looking to find someone special....I read several of the low scoring reviews on here and found many of them to be true in that I did feel like the matchmakers weren't really listening to what I was or wasn't looking for and some were flat out lies. An example of one date was with a guy that was totally into Crossfit and live music/bands and concerts. I mean he lived, breathed, and ate this lifestyle. I wasn't into either of these things. They often stretch the truth about professions, interests, lifestyles, etc. and it was a little frustrating at times, but what I did find was that the people on the other end of the table were looking for the same thing...love. There were some dates that were awkward and ended early. There were others that we closed the place down because we had a good time, but it didn't really go too far after that. I met the jerk, the disinterested, the painfully shy, the painfully desperate, the just plain awkward, etc. However, having said all of this I will be marrying that date that started off as just slightly awkward. I never would have thought that I would have ended up with a guy like this, but somehow it has worked and I have found my best friend and love. You see, I always kept an open mind and said, it's just drinks or it's just dinner/lunch. Yes, this service is expensive, but the other person is spending the money too. I found that most of the guys were polite and almost always picked up the check (dutch rule on first date). We almost always exchanged numbers whether it was just the polite thing to do or not. You can always tell when someone's not feeling it or just trying too hard to make it work. I found that after you exchanged information the person would usually try to let you down easy if they weren't really feeling it, but didn't want to be rude and I appreciated that. You don't want to waste either of your time. So...IJL in many ways is flawed, but I would recommend it as a tool as long as you have realistic expectations and go in with an open mind. I had no real expectations. I knew that I couldn't settle or force anything. At times it felt like it had become a little bit of a chore with as many dates as I started going on. Truth be told, it made me a little less nervous and it made it easier for me to actually listen to the other person and our conversation. Unethical, Unprofessional, Dishonest - Don't use this service! IJL is so unethical. They care more about making money than making matches. If you tell them you are happy in a relationship, they will try to entice you away and break up your relationship in order to get your money so they can match you, which I hear rarely happens. My boyfriend used their service two years ago before we got together. They keep calling him, trying to get him to come back, describing young beautiful women who want to meet him. He told them he was happy in a serious relationship and was living with his girlfriend....me. Tiffany told him our relationship must not be serious or he would have married me by now and she keeps calling him and leaving messages. He has repeatedly said he was not interested, even hung up on her and after a few months have passed, she starts calling again, like this week. read more

I hired this company as I was open to meeting new people in a new way years ago. Promised and payed for 12 dates I stopped around 7 (can't remember exactly). After my final date of being fixed up with a guy who couldn't afford his own dinner, unemployed and staying on a friends couch I knew this company wasn't listening to my needs. Tiffany, called to get me back multiple times. Finally she pointed out "you're still single and you're not getting any younger" I terminated all communication with IJL. I made it very clear to Tiffany not to ever contact me again. Insulting me wasn't the way to get me on board. It's been YEARS, I just got a call from Jenna who told me she works close with Tiffany and they are so excited to get me dating and they have found the perfect guy. I was in shock. So upset to be disrespected from IJL that they didn't take my request to be left alone after aggressive calling campaigns to get me back, I became. Wet angry. I did cuss at Jenna, which is never appropriate, however she feels my request to be left alone from IJL doesn't need to end honored. I've called and written the corporate office. They don't have staff that can answer the phone. I will continue to leave messages for their 3 recorded employees as I feel I will be harassed by Jenna and Tiffany forever. Total FAIL! I was set up with an openly racist man, an unemployed homeless man and I reported all of that and they continue to harass me telling me they have my perfect guy!! Total crap. I met with one of their directors and was impressed with the level of detail she sought out about me, my lifestyle, interests, etc. and what I was seeking in a match. Unfortunately, the dates I've been on have not been at all appropriate. I give them repeated feedback and ask them not to set me up with anyone who doesn't meet my criteria, but I might as well be talking to a tree. They either lack the ability to screen potential matches or they simply don't care. I've concluded that they really just want to sell memberships and meet quotas. read more

Worst service ever. Every date seemed like an episode of catfish. Not a single second date. Example of lies- tells me the guy is a huge gamer who loves video games and biking. Guy turns out to work for the business side of a video game company but thinks all gamers are "stupid" and "immature". Also he owns a bike but only uses it so he doesn't have to drive home from bars. I should note that I don't really drink much and told them that. Other example- claims the guy is over 6 feet tall, has his masters in education, has a job In education and is really active. He turns out to be getting his masters in business advertising, has no job, and is in a motorized wheelchair. None of which they told me, Every place the send you is very expensive, even when you ask for more affordable casual places. They lie when they talk about people they want to match you with and they never take your reviews into account. They seem to just throw people in your age range at you. There is no real matching. When a guy stood me up they never even bothered to find out why or tell me why. It's so expensive and I feel cheated. It's a huge scam. They don't care. They just want their money. I would have given them 0 stars if I could. This company does nothing buy lie and manipulate you to take your money and feed off your hopes and loneliness. Once I called and asked about their services, I was called nonstop until I signed up. Once the payment cleared, I didn't hear from them again for weeks. When I finally did get set up on a date it was with someone who did not match ANY of my criteria. I gave them the benefit of the doubt thinking that this couldn't be an easy task. For a whole year I gave the same feedback over and over and nothing changed. It turns out they were just sending me on dates to run through my contract and burn other people's dates too. There was no matchmaking involved. While not all of the women were awful, some were the exact opposite of what I was looking for. Then I find out about all these lawsuits against IJL. They are known to intentionally set you up with bad dates to get through your contract without fulfilling the spirit of the contract. When confronted, they only offer more dates as appeasement. Why would I want more uncomfortable dates with people who are violently opposed to my beliefs? You will get more successful matches going to a speeddate event, for 1% of the cost. These people are horrible. I want to talk to people here about seeking a class action lawsuit for fraud here at the Austin branch. read more

TOTAL SCAM. If you have any doubts ask them to communicate with you via email...impossible as they don't want to document their lies, communication is just by phone. They just omit relevant information or flat out lie about the dates. They even lie about the age and height of the dates you are supposedly a match for. In fact as soon as I asked them to leave messages on my voicemail about the matches ( so I can document) all of a sudden they cannot match me with anyone... what a surprise! There is no matching. They try to convince you to go on dates just to give you 12 dates, period. And can't care less about either party and easily lie about everything. The women working there just get a commission to send you an a date and they have no conscience and do whatever it takes to get their few bucks. Not to mention after a couple months they call (as they know how disappointed you already are) and try to sell you another service, that if you are not happy with your dates we can provide high quality ones but that service is 10K! So don't waste your money and more importantly your time. read more

Admittedly IJL has not the best matchmaking experience to date; agree with other reviewers that it hasn't proven useful and falls short. The initial interview with the Director set the "goals" and frankly, my expectations were high as my requirements were rather, um, low. The Director actually told me I needed to lose weight!! Regardless, wanted to use this venue as a means of complimenting one of their representatives, Santeeka. She seems to be the only member of the team who listens. Although the Director "finds the match", representatives, like Santeeka, are IJL's front line who interact with their customers (aka me); scheduling the first date, following up on the match, etc. My schedule is sporadic, but she jots down the specifics of availability with surprisingly no mistakes. When listening to my feedback, she takes an earnest interest in what I have to say; I prefer a man with teeth, hair optional, education and a full-time job. So far the Director has missed...they actually set me up with a grandpa (20 years my senior), a recent divorcee (who was not on the market for a new relationship), and two guys who were looking for employment. Yep, no kidding. Contract includes 24 first dates; out of the current count of 20, only 2 went beyond the 1st date. Kinda sad and disappointed. Gave the two stars because I have experienced more luck by walking the Auto/Truck show and IJL deserves a 0, but Santeeka deserves a 4 or better. read more

0 stars. I have been on Match.com on and off for years and have had a few relationships but nothing stuck so I was looking to try something new. After meeting one of the coordinators at an event in my apartment complex she convinced me that this company would be a perfect fit. I was the "ideal" client. Popular age range, successful job and bubbly personality. I was skeptical about signing up but after my interview with Jordan (one of the match makers) she sold me on the company and service. She made it seem like she had an over flowing amount of matches for me and I would be able to go a few dates a month. My first date was a DISASTER !!! I am talking about opening scene to a James Bond movie crash and burn and total destruction. The drinks only lasted for an hour and that was 59 mins too long. The guy never looked at me once, he would stare off into the restaurant the entire time and never made eye contact. I ordered a beer and he made a comment about drinking during the week and having to go to work the next day. 1 beer is not going to kill my career and it sure helped me get through the rest of the date. At the end of then evening he blind sided me and asked for my number. I thought he got the vibe that this did not go well at all. I was caught off guard and didn't know how to say now so I gave him my number. On my drive home, not even 5 min down the road from the restaurant I get a text "I had a wonderful time and I want to see you again. Also you have the most amazing green eyes" Is he serious? How does he know my eye color when he never even looked at me. I had to let him know that I wasn't interested in going out again and when I did I received the nastiest text in return saying I was a b!tch for wasting his time by giving him my number. I explained this all to IJL and said if this was the clientele they had they falsely advertised their service. They immediately apologized and set me up on another date and they were sure this one would be better. Well the 2nd date wasnt any better. Instead of 6'1 with brown hair I got barely 5'8 and bald. Their description of the men was completely off as well as what I was looking for they could not provide. Every followup call I mentioned I need an outgoing and charismatic person. Someone who can easily have a conversation and that has confidence and not once out of my 10 dates did I ever meet such a person. I have one last story to tell as well. In all of my years of online dating or being set up by friends, I have never once been stood up for a date and I was stood up twice by two difference matches from IJL. IJL sure knows how to pick their clients. Men who can't even show up for a date let alone call the restaurant to let me know they were running late or not coming. Nothing better than sitting at a table all alone for 45 mins (twice) while you wait for a blind date that never shows up. Those last few dates were the last straw. I called and put my membership on hold , but really I just want to be done with this company. What they say they have as a database of matches is slim pickings and I would not recommend this company to anyone. Please don't waste your time or money. I learned the hard way so please avoid this company. I would rather sit at a bar and have a drink by myself then be set up on another date by this service. read more

Basically a legal scam. Was sold a great story. Was told they have plenty of clients to meet my criteria. Actually have very few clients from what I can tell. Either that or they literally have no regard to match you up with your expressed interests. Staff are young, immature and unprofessional. I stopped taking their phone calls after being told they would not let me cancel for a refund. Best advice is don't pay up front for their promise of service. IJL is definitely a scam and not worth the cost. The "Directors" insist they are good at their jobs, however they are only good at the sales part, not the personal matching. When I have provided feedback, they continue to say things like "well I wasn't on the date with you so I can't say what happened" or "give me feedback, let me try to make this right", however all could have been better if they had just took my wants and expectations under consideration. I was signed up over the phone and sent an email to sign the contract. I didn't sign the contract and went on my first match, which was sold to me with a lot of lies. For example, I was told the person was from Australia and had a great Australian accent numerous times in one conversation. Well low and behold, no accent, so it was obvious that the Director had never spoken to the person and was just making things up to sell me a false bill of goods. After I requested a refund, my presence in the office was requested where I was immediately asked to sign the credit card slip. I made the mistake of signing it then and didn't notice it said "All Sales Final". It's really too bad this merchant has to run such a scam because the concept is good, the Directors just aren't good at the matching part of their jobs. The second date, after I had very specifically provided all of my requests and requirements in person, was off the charts because the date was not even in the same ballpark. Seriously, I'm not a huge fan of online dating and I really wanted to believe that IJL would be the breath of fresh air they advertise, but it's just not the truth. I want to write a review because fairly often we read reviews from those who are unhappy, and almost never from those who are happy. I joined IJL about 5 months ago and i have had a really good experience. Yes, i've been on a couple dates where there was no chemistry, or i wondered what the hell i was doing there. I wondered how i got matched up with this guy. But in thinking about it, it also made me realize that I'm not ordering a pizza. I am trying to find love. I bet if everyone reading this review wrote out what they were looking for, it would be very similar. Someone who is smart, funny, loyal, considerate, attractive, etc. That is why communication on my part is crucial. I had to dig deep and give them specifics of what I liked and didn't like after each date when I gave feedback. If I didn't, i knew that my next match most likely wouldn't have been any better than the previous one. I'm sure IJL thinks of me as a high maintenance client, and ya know what? Good. I paid a lot of money and i want to feel like i'm being taken care of. I know that this is their job, but it's my love life and i'm emotionally invested. I didn't feel comfortable working with one of the coordinators, so i demanded to speak with the director every time. I talked her ear off. But before i called her to give her feedback, i really thought hard about what bothered me about my hour-long dates with each guy. I was there for just an hour and knew he wasn't the guy for me. Why wasn't it him? The point is that if you can't give actionable feedback, they can't take action. It is as much your responsibility as it is theirs. Once I realized this, things got better really quickly. In fact, the very next date resulted in meeting someone amazing. So in reading all these reviews about how their database is filled with ugly, unstable, unemployed losers - i would say that's written by someone who hasn't been matched with the right person and isn't communicating their needs in an effective manner. it's your job to help them help you. If you can't communicate with your matchmaker about what you are looking for, chances are you are single for a reason because you have problems communicating in relationships. Because you are in a relationship with It's Just Lunch, which is what makes it great. You are dealing with a person who is managing your matches. So talk to them like people, and not a pizza delivery service. And i promise you will meet some great people. And if s/he turns out to be the one... well, that's up to you. I would highly recommend joining if you are serious about meeting someone. read more

I recently joined IJL and wanted to take a minute to discuss it. The reviews here quite frankly almost stopped me from making what I believe to be one of the best decisions I have ever made in finding a quality relationship. I discovered that most of what is here is bad but, successfully finding the one you love is a complicated process and not properly approached it can lead to disappointment. I am a 47 year old professional that runs a business and have been single for over 10 years. Finding someone should be simple right? WRONG. I have little time to hang out at the local bar scene other places people claim to meet. Never had any luck there anyway. I do not meet people at my business as that would violate my professional standards. I have attempted the on-line dating scene to no success, you get what you pay for. Many people post images they took years ago and their self summaries are not always accurate. I was not sure that I liked not seeing a picture of the my date in advance but having been out on 6 dates I have yet to really be disappointed, no one had a huge wart on their nose thank goodness. This process forces you to take the time to get to know some one and get beyond the superficial borders that stop us from meeting others. I justified the money once I realized I have spent a larger sum on bad dates and a divorce. If I find the one relationship I might even send my director a bonus. Love and happiness is worth much more than money. I joined because I want to find a partner and a mate. This is not an easy task and the human heart never gives an simple path to finding the one we love. I can honestly say that since I joined this service I have met more QUALITY individuals than I have met in the preceding ten years of being single. No I am not married yet but I can honestly say I have several people that I consider friends, another priceless item in my opinion. I am also beginning to get involved with a FANTASTIC woman. Not one of these ladies I would have met had it not been for this service. Why? They share a similar life as mine and they joined to find others they might not have not ever met. I have left my on-line dating profile up with a site that matches you for compatibility and so far 30 Day into this I have had 6 dates with ILJ and only one email on the dating site. Hmmmmmm looks like IJL 6 to 0, the score board does not lie. Quite frankly I had to ask my director to slow down so I could pursue a woman I had already met. So in summary, if you are grumpy and not very social please do not join your not going to be happy. If you are open to new people and enjoy an hour of conversation with some one with similar interest, Yes they will get you some one with similar interest. Join! You will have fun. read more

This is the worst fraud of a business ever. If you're a woman, don't even bother. They don't do background checks which means there's a real possibility of getting set up with a psycho. Everyone else you are set up with are single for a reason. And don't even try to get your money back. These thieves cannot admit they are wrong and have no business in the match making services. Agreed. Paid a ton and so frustrated after a few months and fewer dates I stopped responding to them. I'd rather lose the money than have to deal with IJL any longer. It started with my first set-up not even showing up and went downhill from there. The matches never aligned with the way IJL sold them to me. Once they had my money their job was done.
