I recently hired Austin Professional Painters for a pretty large project: we had remodeled our kitchen and had installed new shiplap, headboard, and chair rail throughout the main areas of our downstairs. The cabinets and walls needed a total refresh of paint, and all that new woodwork had tons of caulking/filling/sanding/priming etc to do. Then we needed new crown molding added to our half bath, and there were several sheetrock patches plus some ceiling cracks which needed good prepping and feathering in. Also, our front and back doors needed to be repainted. So - a lot of work! And I am picky about quality. I chose Austin Professional Painting because they seemed well organized, well qualified, and ready to go at a scale of enough workers that we could get back to living in the downstairs of our house in a reasonable amount of time. Their comfort with good quality paint was also a key factor in my choice. So: the guys who came out to do the work, Carlos and Ivan - plus another couple of guys on certain days, were very nice, polite, and extremely hard working. They did a very good job and I am satisfied with the work. I would hire Austin Professional Painters again (and probably will this fall when we get around to renewing the master bath), and I definitely recommend them. TLDNR: Carlos really took care of us, and the re-texturing work was high quality. There were a few lessons learned on our side, but through the back and forth Carlos made good on everything he promised. Can't emphasize how critical that is in this market. Carlos is great to work with. He always picked up, always met us at the house when asked, and any problem was taken care of immediately. The service was top notch. APP was not the lowest quote (not by much though, still within range) but my partner really had trust in Carlos after interviewing a few companies and convinced me to give him a shot. Glad we did! We were getting our 2000 SF house re-textured and painted, including drywall replacement, white washing brick and painting cabinets. It was not a huge area but very detailed work. Special shout out to Omar on the crew- he was always at the house working hard and you could tell he really cared about the results. One lesson learned was making sure APP includes metal corner beads at all wall corners in their quote if re-texturing: we didn't think they'd be needed since it wasn't new drywall but it looked a lot better with them included. Happy the entire team worked with us to add. The paint job was clean. Only portion of work that required retouching was our cabinets. I think because we were on a strict deadline for the work they were rushed a bit. But Carlos and his team came thru- re-touched and fixed everything we asked. We chose to go with APP because of their experience and we had a decent amount of interior wall texture refinishing and painting to have completed. To be clear you will be essentially paying for APP to source good subcontractors. Which is essentially because there are a lot of subpar contractors in Austin. The walls previously had terrible crows feet and we had APP bring them to level 4 finish. The results were great! We also had the cabinets painted and the results were okay. Overall I am giving APP 5 stars because even though we expected slightly better results with the cabinets the customer service was excellent. read more

I have used them several times over the last few years (complete interior and exterior of our primary residence and a rental property) and they have done an excellent job. I couldn't be happier with my experience using APP for a full re-paint of all the walls in our new-to-us home. Quick availability, fair price, and most importantly: high-quality work. I'm extremely detail-oriented--to a fault--and I only used about seven pieces of blue tape after they painted every single interior wall of our new 3900 sq ft home. They did all the right things: Taped off the trim, removed outlet covers and switch plates, and protected our floors and belongings with plenty of paper and clear wrap. I've had so many experiences here in Austin from Dream Jobs gone smooth to nightmares with unruly quote givers for lack of better words . Rest assure I do my home work before hiring a contractor to do any job as a responsible adult should , but what happens when Yelp, Angie's list Google or Home Advisor fail and what you thought would be a sure thing because of raving reviews turns out to be a financial burden. Some of us have become very paranoid so to speak when in the process of hiring and over look simple steps to make our life's easier . For instance we all know when someone is to busy to give a quote or even answer the office phone you could fairly assume it will be the same if you have any questions and try to call during the work procedures. Second, do the workers try and cut corners assuming you are not aware of the process in which the work needs to be done ? If so this indicates the rest of your jobs remaining work will need a close eye , rite . So with this mind set you can educate yourself as much as possible even if you have to watch ten YouTube videos on how to do it yourself so that you give yourself confidence and jump to conclusions a lot less . We as customers also add to the shit storm of home remodeling and sometimes blame the workers or business when in-fact its our lack of understanding the process . We have to center ourselves so to speak knowing damn well that any type of remodel or house work that takes two or more days is stressful . We have to remember that the workers are not slaves and also deserve respect and to treat them with dignity but it's ok to voice when something isn't up to standard in a constructive way . I learned a lot with Austin Personal Paint , yes they have awesome pictures and 5 star reviews but that's not what makes them great . It's the courtesy from the office staff when I call and complain my ass off for lack of understanding and they never lost their cool if anything they immediately accommodated my issues not once questioning my concern . It's the amazing painters who yes at times are a little bit slower to paint a wall or singing their corridas but take their time to fully take care of every detail nook and cranny of my house to be painted with the upmost professionalisms and quality . It's the awesome project manager Alfredo and John the guys who gave me a quote in the begging who stopped what they where doing wherever they where two to three times during the project and came to my house when i had a concern about texture and paint . They did everything with a smile and never once comprised the work with laziness to get something done quicker . Nor did they cut any corners or try and rip me off . All theses things I mentioned are the real reason they are a five star company . So go out and do research get ride of your fears of starting house work . Hire who you want , I will definitely vouch for this company when I say they perform top quality work for extremely competitive and decent prices . UPDATE: After posting my original review, John contacted me and offered to correct the work that was not done correctly. What I can say is that they are definitely willing to make things right. John promised a new crew would come repaint my cabinets and have the job done in 2 days. While I was skeptical, they delivered on what they promised. The new crew was significantly nicer than the original crew, and seemed much more knowledgeable. While we are still having some trouble with the paint, I believe it is likely due to the work from the original crew and not a result of the repair. John has continued to follow up and I am hopeful that we'll get the problem resolved. All in all, our cabinets do look nice and we receive many compliments on them. Hindsight being 20/20 I would have informed John of my dissatisfaction with the original crew before the job was complete, and this likely could have been avoided. read more

We had our home interior and trims painted by Austin Professional Painting in Nov-2021. Right from estimates to, follow ups to additional queries the John and his entire team were transparent and helpful. We did a few geometric pattern/angles for accent walls in couple of living areas and only decided on the right color after first day of work completed. Luis (the project manager) and rest of the painting crew understood our request and got the right paint second day to satisfy our request. Entire team was sincere and efficient in their work. Couple of days after completion of the work, we called them to report few corrections (minor touch ups) and they showed up the very same day to have some of these corrected (on base boards) We are happy with the overall outcome and will definitely hire and also recommend them for any painting needs. read more

This company should remove professional from its name. We had them paint the exterior of our home. Their contract states that they will do a whole list of items to prepare the house for painting. This list included hand washing the exterior, setting nails, scraping, and sanding. They only do these things if you stay on top of them. Hand washing never happened. They state that the job site will be cleaned during and after the completion of the project. This didn't happen. Materials (ladders, painting rig, trash, etc. were left in our yard every day of the 5 days they were here. We still have masking tape on our roof line. They didn't respect the landscaping, hoses or personal property. After reading so many good reviews, I was shocked to get such an unprofessional crew. Maybe it's luck of the draw or unlucky in this case. I would not use them again and recommend that you find someone else to do your painting. Follow up to business owner response: I received a call from Mr. Contreras' assistant as soon as I posted my negative review stating that the owner would like to meet with me. I asked to what end, the job had been bungled and I didn't see any reason to continue our relationship. She said she didn't know what he wanted but would find out. A few minutes later, John the owner calls. He tells me that he's thinking of firing his crew, can't take payment for a job not well done. Continues for about 15 minutes telling me how great his company is. I reminded him that he had been copied on almost every email that I sent to his project manager and the only reason for any surprises would be that he wasn't engaged. He said that he was considering a refund and would talk to his crew and get back to me in a few days. Never heard back, my second check was cashed the next day after our conversation, and the only communication was his response to my review. This companies idea of making things right is wearing you down until you want them off of your property. I'm still pulling masking tape off of my house (which I told John about in our phone conversation), picking up cigarette butts, and finding over spray on my brick. I double down on recommending that you find someone else for your project. read more

My house's exterior was overdue for repainting. I got sticker shock from all the estimates I was getting, but chose APP because they were lower than the others. And they did a great job--both with some repairs we had identified and the painting itself. And after my final inspection and payment, I found a couple of issues (like the windows being painted shut). These guys did a fantastic job from start to finish! 1. John Contreras came out to scope out the job and explain how everything worked. He was very patient and answered all of our questions. 2. We had a second bid - about the same price, but didn't leave me feeling as confident as John and APP. 3. We checked out references and made sure they had sufficient insurance in case someone got hurt. Barb at the office quickly got that to us. 4. We signed the contract on a Tuesday and they were ready the next week. 5. The painting crew was very professional. We gave them a sample of the trim color on Monday and they had it ready to go on Tuesday. 6. My two story stucco house only took one day to prep (powerwash, scraping old caulk, filling small cracks) and two days to paint (even the chimneys). The spray painted the trim and gutters, but used a roller brush on the stucco - the coverage is great. 7. I can't say enough how thorough they were and they cleaned up after themselves. Jerry managed the crew and came out on Thursday to check everything. I would definitely have them back and recommend to anyone looking to get exterior painting. read more

Posting this almost a year late, but John and this company were the opposite of professional. Did such a bad job on our cabinets multiple times and it just kept getting worse because they would put more paint over uncured paint and using the wrong sprayers. Maybe in the last year they have bought better sprayers, but the ones they used at our house weren't meant for fine mist so would sputter and leave drips. The first crew John sent in hadn't even painted cabinets for his company before. In our original quote, John said they always paint cabinets with the doors attached because it turns out better than reattaching. The new crew didn't do this. Many mistakes made were careless--painting the blue cabinet doors side by side with the white ones, so overspray was left, closing the still-wet cabinet doors so they stuck shut and pulled paint off when opened, and damaging all of the hinges to the point they had to be replaced. Each time they repainted, we found more and more issues like this. John or other management NEVER checked the quality of work before calling to tell us it was done and to go look at it. Finally John had to bring in his more experienced family members to try and salvage the cabinets and they ended up having to roll on paint. They did the best they could with what the other crews had done, but when I said our final product was rolled paint, not sprayed, so that's the level we should be paying for, John became upset and argumentative saying paint had not been rolled--when I had watched it being brushed and rolled all day. So a year later, we still have dings and drips (all done by APP), a gouge scratched in the wood floor from when they carelessly moved the oven, and to top it off they didn't even use the brand/color paint I asked for. read more
