A pop out wall I asked for

I hired Magic Toolbox to handle the framing, drywall, and painting for my store They were respectful of my space, kept everything clean and tidy while working, and even finished ahead of schedule. Their communication was excellent, keeping me updated every step of the way. I'm planning more projects at the store soon and will definitely be hiring them again. Highly recommend!

Luis was awesome! I didn't know who to call for a ceiling drywall repair and am glad I found him. Was extremely responsive, was able to schedule my service within a couple of days, was prompt and very professional. He did a GREAT job - you can't even tell where the patch/repair is, it's perfect - and went above and beyond the extra mile to make it perfect. Would highly recommend!

Suffice it to say, Luis and Magic Toolbox Painting made my dream come true and I can't recommend them enough! Let me start at the beginning. Have you ever had something about your house that has bothered you for years, that you constantly complain about and feel like you have to tell anyone that comes over you know it looks horrible and you can't wait to change it? That something for me was my kitchen cabinets. They were this light wood that didn't go with anything else in my house. They looked so out of place. So after looking a few other places for a contractor who could refinish my kitchen cabinets, I turned to trusty ole yelp and found Luis. He responded so quickly and the entire process was nothing but professional and a breeze. Not only was his price amazing, his time frame seemed too good to be true. I told myself and my husband that his time frame seemed more like a goal and to remember that unforeseen things could happen that could extend the project. But fast forward to the project start date. Luis and his team member arrived right on time and got straight to work. They worked hard for two days and finished up on the third, as promised. I was amazed! Anyway, I'm so pleased that I will be contacting Luis in the next few months to do more cabinets in my house and to eventually repaint my entire house!

Luis was hired to paint our new home in Cedar Park on August 2022. Simply said- he promised and delivered, clean, professional work. Exactly as things should be In more detail- Luis was very patient as we had hard time to decide what we wanted and changed some requirements. That was no easy but he managed wonderfully. He was flexible and was able to do what we wanted- painting the house. The team came as promised, and did all the project exactly as planned- duration, quality, material. That is a pro to hire for your paint job. Thank you Luis and team!

Let me start off by saying that this review rating is strictly for kitchen cabinet work. If you are looking for wall touchups/painting, then 4/5 recommend them. Did a good job with painting our hallway, kitchen wall, dining and living area. Taking one point off, for not respecting other's furniture. I saw photos of other people getting kitchen and walls painted in this yelp page. I was expecting that he would take care of our furniture the same way as shown in the photos and as said in his elevator pitch to get the job. Far from the truth. We never got that royal treatment. He didn't cover our sofa or dining table, carpet, nothing. I had to say it every day, then we would reluctantly some days for few hours cover them. On the first day, when he was painting our walls, I requested to please cover the sofa/dining table which he responded by saying - it will never get there. So, I covered it myself with all the blankets I could find. He then decided to take the cover off of our dining table, so the cover doesn't get paint on it?! WHAT? WHAT?? The cover is for that reason, so it get the paint on it and not the actual furniture. He left few white paint marks on my BRAND NEW dining table. Luckily, I was able to fix the situation since this was water-based paint. Over the course of the week, it was a daily struggle to get him to respect our furniture. Covered it again for few hours, took it off, not covered next day and so on. Eventually, he got kitchen cabinet solid color marks on my blankets that were covering the sofa and my brand new replaced carpet, and our door mat as well. THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE SHIT SHOW. If I hadn't covered our sofa myself, then these spots would have been on it and he would have never reimbursed us for the damage. It took almost year to get this brand new furniture delivered with everything going on in the world. Carpet - we spend HOURS trying to get the stain off. Again, he responded casually and still didn't cover it. We covered it with our own tarps. What materials did we pay off in that hefty amount, that he wouldn't even find money to cover the things. We still gave him benefit of doubt... We are first time homeowners and this was our first contracting work with significant amount put in to get the kitchen cabinets repainted/stained/make-them-look-new-and-good. Its been close to 2-3 weeks since they wrapped up the work and called the job "done". I waited this long to make sure I am not writing a negative review in heat of the moment but actually still have true feelings about it. The kitchen work was a shit show. We have no expertise and knowledge about paint; what tools to use, what strokes and what type of stain/paint is the best. That's why we hired Luis and his team of 1. It started off with him using Valspar One-Coat exterior stain and sealer in solid color. After getting through that, he recommended to coat it with Helmsman spar urethane in clear gloss. This is where things went terribly south. He provided us the option and we assumed he knows what he is talking about... well! because he is the contractor who does this for a living. But we were sooooo wrong. He used brush to apply the gloss and let the doors hang outside in our backyard to dry it out faster with no shed/covering. While we waited each day as per his instruction to let it dry for 24-48 hours. I kept asking him, that there are bubbles on it, drip patters, thick gloss brush strokes, grass caught on the paint, dust from outside visible on it but he kept assuring me to not look at it now, he will fix it later. That I will find 1000 mistakes right now, but need to give him time to touch up. Have faith! Come to find out on the last day of his work, apparently, this was his first time ever using urethane on a kitchen cabinet. We were guinea pig in his experiment that cost us a hefty amount. With the results not coming at par after the doors dried, we decided to do research on it ourself. With a simple YouTube search a day before his last day, we found out if you have to apply urethane then you should do it with a foam brush, not paint brush as then you can control the thickness of the gloss and the finish is so much smoother. When we confronted him about the process, his response was - "that would have taken hours, not possible" ... well no shit! good work takes precision and time. If you don't have the bandwidth to do that, then why recommend and do a half ass horrible job?! Its frustrating that there is no definition of 'done' with contracting work. You are at the mercy of the contractor. To fix all this work, would have required us paying him the same amount again as this would be considered a second job. Well! I ain't spitting gold yet but this is a great pay to be forever on a payroll, by messing up and then keep coming back to "fix" it. The results are sooo bad that it breaks my heart every time I am in the kitchen. My best wishes to all people, who hire them. May you have a better luck than us.

    Before - dark wood
    Ruth T.

Luis and his team recently painted our cabinets and our interior walls, and we couldn't be happier with the results! The cabinets were originally a dark espresso color and are now a beautiful bright white! Looking at them now, it's hard to believe they were ever dark wood. Luis and his team were attentive to detail and were communicative through the whole process. He even called a few days later to check and make sure we were still happy with everything. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for interior painting or cabinet painting - they do outstanding work! Five stars!!!

Luis also lies. I have posted our text communications about the epoxy here. He did our garage and the epoxy was sticky and we couldn't even walk in the garage. Never fixed it and never took responsibility. On top of it, he says he doesn't have me as an epoxy customer!

Got the hard to reach spots.

The cabinets and walls needed a total refresh of paint, and all that new woodwork had tons of caulking/filling/sanding/priming etc to do. Then we needed new crown molding added to our half bath, and there were several sheetrock patches plus some ceiling cracks which needed good prepping and feathering in. Also, our front and back doors needed to be repainted. So - a lot of work! And I am picky about quality. I chose Austin Professional Painting because they seemed well organized, well qualified, and ready to go at a scale of enough workers that we could get back to living in the downstairs of our house in a reasonable amount of time. Their comfort with good quality paint was also a key factor in my choice. So: the guys who came out to do the work, Carlos and Ivan - plus another couple of guys on certain days, were very nice, polite, and extremely hard working. They did a very good job and I am satisfied with the work. I would hire Austin Professional Painters again (and probably will this fall when we get around to renewing the master bath), and I definitely recommend them. I'll have to update this review with photos soon, I just need to take a bunch of them.

After they finished painting my house, a few weeks later after heavy rains I noticed a stain on the ceiling of a guest bedroom. I knew immediately it was the long nagging problem of the "dead valley" along my roof. The house was designed and built according to the architect's drawings to have the roof of the first floor bedroom run into the siding of the house. It was a short "run" and rainfall should go quickly into the gutters. But, this was built under a big, old oak tree and for many years, I've had leaves and twigs built up, damming up the water. If I can remember it, I have to get up on a ladder with a rake and rake the leaves away from where the shingles meet the siding. After one major hailstorm, I had the roof replaced and when they replacing it, I asked them to build something to reduce the leave/branch damming. They did build it, but apparently not big enough. It lasted probably 14-15 years until this recent Spring. Since I had a good experience with 21st Century, I called them out to give me a bid on repairing what was probably rotted trim and exposed flashing and other rot elsewhere. And while they were at it, I asked them to build me a better diverter away from the siding. They came out and took care of it in a day. The guy was there from 8:30 to 5:00, taking a break for lunch, but got it done. Since they were also the painters, they asked me for the leftover paint they left for me (for touch-up) that came in handy as they had to replace the rotten trim and as it turned out a section of the roof decking. Attached are the pictures they took for the bid and then afterwards when they were complete. They were detailed enough to ask me first, "hey, this diversion we're putting in is a lighter grey then your shingles. Are you okay with that? We can go back and get darker materials". I said that was fine. No one can see that part of the roof and so it was trivial to me. The only negative thing from the painting and the roofing experience is so minor it's not worth taking away a star is that there will be a gap between when you sign and return the contract and they contact you about scheduling the actual work. In both cases, I had to drop them a line to remind them I was in the queue. Being a service that can't work when it's raining, I can understand that they have days where scheduled work is delayed and that causes a snowball effect of delays.

So, we developed an informal prospectus based on this assumption. Sometime later, we happened upon a poster advertising That 1 Painter, a licensed and bonded enterprise based in the Treasure Valley. Their reviews were strongly favorable and more so noteworthy was that T1P had been voted Best of Idaho twice (among many other plaudits)! So, when we were ready we contacted them with the intention that they would provide us with our first estimate. We were visited by Ruth Brinton, a professional house painter and owner of T1P. She presented well with confidence and comprehension. She looked at many things that we would have likely overlooked. She made many observations and shared her thoughts with us. She also looked at the property and made recommendations regarding colors to not only enhance the house, but also to optimize the use of colors that would give balance and compliment to the property on the whole. The next day, we received the detailed estimate for the job. We were stunned to learn that T1P would do the job for well below our most auspicious estimates! All the information we had gathered convinced us that we did not have need to solicit another estimate. Within a month's time (from initial contact) our house was very nicely and professionally cleaned, prepped and painted. The crew performing the work were polite, friendly and professional. Clearly, the team at T1P are committed to customer service and satisfaction. We offer a solid 5-star review and our full endorsement.
