However, my brother commented on how weird it looked. So, I decided to take them to the shoe hospital because according to my brother they were in bad shape. According to the repairman, the shoe repair services would take a few days. In my mind, I had a target price of no more than $10. However, it turned out to be more. Since I will have symmetrical shoes, I think it will be worth it. Yesterday, I dropped the flip flops off for repair. The process was quick and easy. I got the flip flops back the today. Sad to say that my good experiences of a decade ago didn't match the experience I had this week. A friend dropped off my Tumi suitcase to be repaired and was told by the young man working that they would repair the broken zipper and also replace a missing zipper pull. I picked up the suitcase without examining it closely and when I got home I realized the zipper pull was still missing. I took it back across town and the older man working this time told me that it wasn't part of the repair and that I would have to pay an additional $30 (on top of the $125 already paid) to have this tiny piece of hardware replaced. Worse, he didn't let me finish one sentence in the entire conversation. He interrupted me repeatedly, told me my experience was not what happened, and tried to mansplain to me that Tumi would not have repaired the suitcase (which they would have--we took it there first, but it would have taken longer). He was extremely rude, there was not one moment that he treated me with anything but disdain and disrespect, and I will never return to this location. read more

I've never written a bad review on Yelp, but I'm moved to do so now by the outrageous and shameless response I got from Joe at Austin Shoe Hospital on Burnet, after he over stretched my shoes, ruined them and blamed me. He's always been likable, so I was shocked at the way he handled my situation when something didn't go right. I brought one of my favorite leather sneakers made by Pikolinos, a brand that specializes in leather with an artisanal yet classic look. They were originally around $170 new. I had worn them for several years, but wanted the left toe stretched just a little as I'm a perfectionist about comfort and sometimes after a day of wearing them I felt a little ping on that toe. When the shoes were returned to me and I tried to put them on, the top of the shoe, where it had been hand stitched had ripped off and separated from the sole. They were ruined! I was heartbroken. Joe said it was because the rubber had rotted. OK. Perhaps that could be true. However, one could ask why he didn't tell me it would not be a good idea to stretch it. One could ask, was it over stretched? One could ask why there were light colored smudges where the yellow dye looked like it was wiped off by a chemical--barely noticeable but indicative of carelessness in handling the shoe. One could ask, why, if I brought the shoes to him in good condition, wearable and well-taken care of... why they were returned to me ruined beyond repair with nary an apology. There was, indeed, no apology. No offer of any compensation nor at least a refund of what I had paid to have them stretched just a little (and ruined). I did not ask for any compensation to help me replace the shoes. I did ask, at least, for a refund of the $30 or $35. fee I had paid, more on principle than financial motivation. Joe refused and said it was my fault that I brought in shoes that didn't fit me to try to make them fit! That was the most outrageous response I could ever imagine. He was blaming me and saying the shoes didn't fit and the rubber sole was rotted! I've never run into this ungraciousness from a vendor ever. I was floored! Needless to say, I will never use Austin Shoe Hospital ever again and I don't recommend you do either. read more

Customer service was so good. The gentleman behind the counter recognized me from last week. I asked if his credit card machine was working again. He gave a sigh, and was like finally. I said, We depend so much of these machines to take our money. And when they don't work, it stops everyone in their tracks. Today I had cash just incase the C.C. machine didn't work. It did thank God, so I was able to pay and get my heels. My Christian Louboutin's look beautiful. The black has been brushed out, the red bottoms have been replaced. I brought in a pair of boots that I value quite a bit for a full resole, conditioning, and eyelet replacement. I was told the turnaround time would be 3-4 weeks. Instead, it took three additional weeks beyond that estimate, and the final result was extremely disappointing. When I finally picked them up, the boots looked exactly the same as when I dropped them off, aside from the new sole. The conditioning clearly was not done, and the eyelets I specifically requested to be replaced were never touched. To make matters worse, when I tried tightening the laces, both of the laces snapped immediately, which says a lot about the level of care and attention given to the job. Waiting nearly seven weeks for work that was only partially completed is unacceptable--especially when basic requested services were simply ignored. If the shop couldn't complete the work as requested, I would have appreciated honest communication rather than picking up my boots in essentially the same condition I dropped them off in. At drop-off, the staff was friendly and clear that not all stains might come out -- I appreciated the transparency and fully understood that going in. We agreed on an $80 cleaning fee. When I returned to pick it up, the interior looked cleaner -- some faint coffee marks remained, which was expected -- and I was content with the result. He briefly showed me the inside, quickly wrapped it back up in paper and plastic, and sent me on my way. Aside from the coffee spill, it was practically new and had been stored and rotated with other bags carefully since purchase. The missing rivet was absolutely intact when I left it with them. I immediately drove back to the shop to show them. The employee's reaction? A casual, "That's okay, we'll replace it." I assumed they had the original piece and would reattach it properly, so I allowed him to take the bag to the back. When he returned, he had hammered in a generic, unbranded rivet--a completely inappropriate fix for a $4,000 designer bag with custom, branded hardware. When I asked for the original part back, he denied they had anything to do with the missing rivet, insisting that their cleaning process only involved a brush and couldn't have possibly caused the damage. So which is it? You're willing to "fix" it with a random part, but also claim you're not responsible? Just denial and a careless attempt to slap on an unmatched part like this was some cheap canvas duffel--not a luxury handbag I'd paid thousands for and taken great care of. Horrible BELOW 1-STAR experience. I have been a 20+ year customer but I have never been treated so poorly upon picking up my expensive school bag that I brought into the shop to have a new magnetic clasp-set installed. I came in to pickup my bag today 08-21-25 and I immediately noticed that the clasp-set they installed did not match in color or clasp-style. When I pointed this out, the desk manager said "well doesn't it snap together?, what's the problem?" I said, "Yes, it snaps (although differently in touch and feel) but for an expensive repair for an expensive bag I expected better. I expected the clasps to at least match in color and style and they simply don't". See photos. The manager said that upon me bringing the bag into the store that I only asked if the color would match? WTF? Was it unreasonable to expect that the clasp type and style would match? Which by the way in the pictures you can see that even the color doesn't match. He then asked me what I wanted to do, so I said that I really need my bag for classes but it would help if he could at least adjust the price of the repair given the issues with the repair and he flatly refused!" I told him I have been coming to his store for 20+ years and that this would be the last time that he would receive $ from me. So I paid him the full price of the repair. I'm not sure what has changed over the years but this isn't good. His lack of empathy and lack of action essentially told me to go "pound dirt". Use to love this place. After my most recent experience, it's apparent that they are cutting corners and making rookie mistakes. What a shame. Brought in a 3 year old pair of boots that needed to be conditioned and re-soled. After waiting 2 1/2 weeks, I picked them up and they looked okay. After wearing them for a day, nails started coming through to my feet. Took them back in and they pounded on them. No more feel of nails after putting my hand in to check. Left and put them on then I got home. More nails. Took them back in again. The guy behind the counter wanted to argue with me and said that it was the old nails and happens when you re-sole. No ... it's bad work. Re-soling means you take the old soles off and put new ones on as a replacement. Old nails should never, ever be coming at your feet. The price is high but reasonable if the work is done right. Any price is too high if there are nails hitting your feet. Too bad. Have been there four times in total for one piece of work. read more

I asked politely if he would consider going down to $40 and he asked the manager. Cobbler #2 (he's the manager): "That will be $50 and a week." Me: "But you're charging me more than I was originally quoted and asking for more time!" The look on his face. It said: "I'm the only game in town so eat it." Whaaaah! This deeply bugged me. Had a horrible experience. Dropped off my a purse I thrifted and wanted it to be cleaned and repair an area where the leather was splitting. We went over options for dying the leather since there was a spot on the logo that was worn but I decided against it due to the fact I didn't think the spots were that bad. I came back to pick up my order and I notice a massive black stuff above the logo (this wasn't even an area that had an issue, it was pristine). I flag this to the worker and they stated "oh there was a mark and we fixed it, but it must have come off when they cleaned the bag" I'm confused because there was literally no mark before (see before picture) they gaslight me into believing I'm wrong so I leave and assume they will fix it. The next day I'm back to pick up my bag and I see they have completely painted the leather, which I DIDNT ASK FOR. Because they painted it 1. It doesn't match the color and 2. The once white stitching is painted brown. They keeping saying "oh I thought you wanted us to make it look good" as if that portion of the bag was an issue (...it wasn't, and now it looks worse) we go back and forth on options but I decide I don't trust these people anymore, I want to take my bag home and find a real repair service to fix this probably irreparable damage. As I go to inspect other areas of the bag they call out "oh we didn't clean the inside" (so what is even included in a cleaning???), I also notice some numbers on the side holes I didn't remember, I call them out and they go fully off on me. The start insinuating this is some type of a scam I'm doing (I'm literally a 29 year old woman) I start to bring up pictures I had taken of the bag when I wanted to show my friends my amazing thrift find (this is a Fendi baguette from early 2000s and is rare, I was so excited about it) now this man is asking why I have pictures that's weird and insinuating I'm of bad moral character all because I'm inspecting my bag and asking question (shocking normal thing to do given you did work I didn't request that caused DAMAGE). At this point I'm Shaking I can't even concentrate on finding reference pictures because I'm being treated like a criminal. (FYI my guy if you would have let me breath I would have found reference with the numbers) at this point I'm over it so I just want to take my bag home and leave. Since I received service I didn't ask for that has now ruined areas of the bag I felt I shouldn't have to pay for this. He refuses and says we will give me a $20 discount (lol this is a +$3k bag you personally damaged but thanks dude). I end of trying to give him my Amex and he refuses to take it, stating "I don't take that type of card in these situations" and requests cash which I don't have. (What a sketchy thing to ask?!?) Went to pick up a Saint Laurent bag for a re-dye due to it having several wet stains. I was told that the dye would do away with the water mark and that's not how it turned out. After pointing this out and the fact that the color and texture were significantly different, I was told to "just buy a new one then". Horrible place if you're looking for good quality work on designer items. I would've at least expected good customer service and an "I'm sorry this is the best we could do" some sort of sympathy for doing messy work. The chains are sticky, the texture is rough like it's a 100 year-old leather bag, and the hardware has paint marks. For $250 + tax I would've expected better quality and value work. Took almost 3 weeks to receive my item when they set the expectation for 1 week. When I called to check on the repair I was told that the work had been completed the day before -- I didn't receive a text or email saying that it was completed. During the phone conversation it became clear to me that this company doesn't have a good system for keeping track of things and don't really know how to use technology to help facilitate basic customer service. The repair on my bag was great, the customer service was bad. The customer service aspect is a major liability because it's logistical in nature: meaning that I can see how items can come up missing or notes being overlooked/ignored, etc... They also have a lot of shoe maintenance materials for sale, which was convenient as I was looking to get some leather conditioner and could consult them on what to use. I had a pair of Italian Leather derby shoes I once spoiled myself with and when I discovered upon moving to Austin that one of the soles was coming undone, I was just about to cry. (no literally, because I would've never thought this would've happened) After spending a very pretty penny on these shoes, I was in a pinch as I had every intention of wearing them to a a friends wedding. I swung by Austin Shoe Hospital with two days before the wedding and asked to see if they could be my fairy shoemother. They quoted me $45 to get the shoe redone and to repaint them so they could come back to life. I appreciated they don't charge you until you pick them up and they even send you a text notification when your order is ready. Never drop your shoes off here- worst customer service ever! I was quoted 7-10 business days and over a month later I started to think they lost them. They have zero customer service or go out of their way to take initiative to keep you posted on the update of your shoes. The first time I called to inquire about my shoes a month later I was told their system was down and she (who I found out was the manager) told me she would call me back once it rebooted. 24 hours later, no phone call. I then called. She said the system was still down. 24 hours later?! Then how was she doing business? No follow up from her again about the system being back up. The third time I called I was finally told where they sent them off too had to order something so it was going to take longer than expected. Not once was I called to be informed about the additional time needed or asked to approve the additional time needed. This was very important to me since I repeatedly told her I was moving and leaving the state on a certain date. I went the day before moving and my shoes were there. Of course, she never called me to tell me any updates or that they were in the store. She made me pay full price to get my shoes! Go anywhere but this place! This was hands downs the worst customer service experience I've ever had. If you read no further, just know to never take your shoes to this company. Unless of course you like having to call repeatedly to get your lost shoes back... I dropped off a pair of shoes to Austin Shoe Hospital on 8/14. Simple sole separation repair with a few other cosmetic touch ups. I was quoted around $86 and told they'd be ready in a week and a half. A week and a half comes and goes and I call about my shoes. I'm told "if they're ready, we would have called you, so no need to call us." I leave for a trip and return expecting to have missed a call. I call the store on 9/13 and am told they can't locate the shoes, they'll call me back. They don't call back. Same script given on 9/14 with yet another unnreturned call. Again on Friday, 9/15. Finally I get a call from the manager, Joe, on 9/15 before closing who says its priority #1 on Monday (9/18). No call on Monday. On Tuesday (9/19) I finally got a text they were ready. I was again traveling and could not pick up until today, (9/22). I called before I came because I was hoping there was something the manager could do in terms of price to make the situation right. I was having to jump through crazy hoops to get a $200+ pair of shoes back over a month after expected to be due. The manager initally offered $15 off (less than 20% off) for almost entirely losing my shoes. I noted I was not happy with this offer. He offered $25 and asked if $25 off would keep my business. When I responded no, he said "no discount then". I asked to speak to the owner, who was "busy" and then unreachable. I paid full price for the service today because I wanted it over with. I noted I will be leaving poor reviews due to the terrible customer service experience and Joe exclaimed "Well aren't you nice!" in front of another employee and customer. Beyond embarassing. Overall, I'm not jumping with joy over the repair that has been made. The leather paint used took away from the look of the shoe. My real complaint lies with the complete runaround I was sent on to try to retrieve my shoes. This business treats customers very poorly and has no concept of customer service. EDIT - see attached photos. After further inspection before my first wear, there was a lose thread that they did not care to remove. Rather, they lazily painted over it. This resulted in torn paint. Horrible quality. Also see paint all over metal buckle. Find an online business to repair your shoes. Don't let this company steal your money. -------------- What a terrible experience I had with Austin Shoe Hospital. I dropped my loafers off on 6/8/22 to be dyed. I called three weeks later for an update and I was informed that they were not finished. I then drove to the location five weeks following the drop off and still no progress. The gentleman informed me that he would call the dye shop and provide me with an update within a day or two. Another week passed and I had not heard from the gentleman. I drove again to the location to inform the shop that I wanted my shoes returned and I did not want them to perform the dye work on my shoes, as I would be going elsewhere. A few days later, I received an email that my shoes were complete. I picked up my shoes on 8/4/22 and the shop had performed the dye work, after I explicitly told the shop to return the shoes to me and not perform the work. Almost two months had passed and if I would not have continued to follow up, I would still not have my shoes. Stay away from this shop.
