It says much about this place if a local tannery recommended getting leather products fixed here. While this place is cash or check only, they do the personalized service well and keeping it local, as much of their business is by word of mouth. They're able to replace portioned leather in shoes or the whole works. Or simply fixing it with leather glue and polish to make it look as new as possible - depending on you. The shoes are only as good as you want it to be. The polishing itself was affordable, at $12.99 for leather boots. I would come back if I see my shoes needing further service.

This is their idea of a heel repair.

However, my brother commented on how weird it looked. So, I decided to take them to the shoe hospital because according to my brother they were in bad shape. According to the repairman, the shoe repair services would take a few days. In my mind, I had a target price of no more than $10. However, it turned out to be more. Since I will have symmetrical shoes, I think it will be worth it. Yesterday, I dropped the flip flops off for repair. The process was quick and easy. I got the flip flops back the today. The flip flops are twins again. Historically (over the last 20+ years), I have had my shoes repaired only at the Austin Shoe hospital as they do great work.

I picked up the suitcase without examining it closely and when I got home I realized the zipper pull was still missing. I took it back across town and the older man working this time told me that it wasn't part of the repair and that I would have to pay an additional $30 (on top of the $125 already paid) to have this tiny piece of hardware replaced. Worse, he didn't let me finish one sentence in the entire conversation. He interrupted me repeatedly, told me my experience was not what happened, and tried to mansplain to me that Tumi would not have repaired the suitcase (which they would have--we took it there first, but it would have taken longer). He was extremely rude, there was not one moment that he treated me with anything but disdain and disrespect, and I will never return to this location.

I used this Jack Brown for a couple years while I attended law school at UT. I did not understand…read moreuntil now that a cleaners doesn't have to be this bad. The customer service at this place is a small step above adversarial. The people that work there probably hate dealing with people, and so they never miss a chance to stick it to the customers through microaggressions. The problem with Jack Brown's cleaning is that don't really do anything beyond basic cleaning. Unfortunately, I attract stains. And I've had them all: armpit stains, food, oil, dirt, and blood. Jack Brown does not possess the ability to thoroughly clean your clothes. They might give you a patronizing response if you ask, though. For example, one time I had heard them explain to another customer once that there's not a whole lot they can do about stains: they "run it through" and basically hope for the best. Well then the time came where I needed to bring in my *only* white dress shirt for special treatment. I somehow managed to get a small, but very prominent (and very embarrassing) oil stain on the collar. For some foolish reason, despite having heard they don't do stains, I somehow hoped the situation would be different for my stain. When I came into the store, the lady behind the counter was firmly fixated on her computer. I tried to draw her attention to the stain and asked if there was anything they could do about it. The lady behind the counter never took her eyes off of the computer. She flatly said, "Yeah, I'll put some of that stuff on it." At least she tried to hide the disdain. Needless to say, when I got my shirt back, the stain was still there. That's not to say all business is bad here. It got the job done well enough that I didn't go anywhere else (it was also just two blocks away from where I lived). A couple of years back there was a young lady that worked here that used to call me Sage Scarborough (not my name). She was friendly. But I haven't seen her in about a year and a half. I would say this place is not a bad place if you have some medium to low quality items that you need cleaned that cannot be machine washed. But if you want service beyond that, or if you don't want to deal with some employees who hate their job and are down on life, you should probably go somewhere else.

I looked high and low, visiting dry cleaners, and making phone calls until I finally found Jack Brown Cleaners who informed me that while they do not clean leather on site, they are willing to send it off to Houston. I called ahead and zoomed right over to Jack Brown. When I got there a little while later I did not identify myself as someone who had called, but the nice lady behind the counter put two and two together and asked if I had just called. I appreciate it when people pay attention. Then, as she took my skirt, she made sure to let me know that it would be kinda' pricey ($35) just to make sure I was okay with it ... I was. She also told me that it would take a while to get back since they have to send it outside of Austin. While I am still anxiously awaiting my skirt's arrival, I am so pleased with their customer service thusfar that I had to take a moment to tell you that Jack Brown cleaners will help you get your leather cleaned. So, all you people who have been walking around in leather pants for a little too long without getting them cleaned, Jack Brown is here to help.
