Since our child has been there (he is our first baby) they have given us confidence, comfort and advice when we sought it. They helped us to realize our kid was suffering from hearing loss and guided us on how we could get him help both from doctor and government programs. They have patiently guided our kid through some serious anxiety struggles and I've witnessed they practice flexibility with other neurodivergent children. It's so comforting and appreciated. After 6 months of paying for Spectrum Sitters I have decided to cancel my membership with them. I…read moream writing this review because the existing reviews are all more than a year old and it seems like it is a possibility that things went downhill as the company is trying to scale. To use Spectrum sitters you need to pay for a monthly/yearly membership (around $30 a month) and then pay $10 per appointment. The system works very differently than most other services as the family does not have control on whom they will hire but instead the "job" is posted and the sitters compete for it. A little bit about our situation, we have a 10 years old on the spectrum that exhibits self-injury behaviors that can lead to injuries so someone trained with this should be very a minimum requirement and this was explained to the owner during our initial call. We also made it very clear in our profile so that the sitters are very well informed of what to expect. This is our observations, about 50% of the jobs get filled and since it is last minute some fill literally the day before so it is difficult to make long-term plans. Technically those unfilled jobs are refundable but they are not automatically, you need to chase the owner to get them refunded. And she is not easy to reach. My wife and myself have called them 32 times over the last 6 months and got the phone to answer twice and got 2 calls back to our messages. When I raised the issue and suggested that she ask for help she claimed that it was not problem and took no ownership of her sloppiness. I have spoken to other families and some of her sitters and they confirmed that she is hard to reach. Other issues that we have noticed, the website is using a third-party platform and the UI/UX is mediocre. For example there are two login buttons and if you click the wrong one it will do nothing. The multiple day booking is broken and is terrible in terms of usability, so if you need to book a week, get ready to have to input each day individually. The site has a review system but it is pretty much useless given that the "sitters" are choosing you. Why would I have a rating then? You can't chose who will work your job except for the first 24 hours where you can pick your job "exclusive" but you can only select those that you have hired before. You cannot see the bios of the other sitters on the platform, she is running a business and probably does not want the competition to have access to them easily. We had 3 same day cancellations (one was 1 hour before) and don't expect them to find someone last minute. Talent is really all over the place, we posted 28 jobs. 3 of them were very good, half were average (that means I would not trust to leave them alone with my son) and 3 were terrible (I wish I could have sent them home instead of keeping them around the whole time). When you have a terrible sitter you cannot block them from bidding on your jobs in the future, you have to call the owner (and only customer facing employee) and good luck to get in touch with her. Quite honestly, we had much better luck with Care.com, the business model is really in favor of maximizing the owner profit, then allowing as many bookings as possible and finally finding a sitter for the kid. I raise all of these issues with the owner and her answer was "It may not be the best fit for everyone", and she is so right. On a final note, with any sitting service I encourage everyone to check if the sitter has a facebook profile and access the maturity level of the sitter and make a decision if you think it is a good sitter for you. Nobody knows better than the parents what is best for their kids.

Over time, I witnessed behavior from certain staff members that made me seriously concerned about the environment and how children were being treated. My son experienced inappropriate and hurtful comments about his skin color, and instead of addressing the situation, the blame was shifted onto him. He was also being bullied, and nothing was handled properly. On top of that, I also noticed a serious lack of confidentiality. Personal information about families and their situations was openly discussed among staff and even shared with other parents, which is completely unprofessional and unsafe. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this daycare. Families deserve a place that is safe, respectful, and supportive, and unfortunately this daycare did not provide that for my child. I strongly hope changes are made so no other child or parent has to go through what we did.

People think it's easy and intuitive to be a caregiver and it actually takes a lot of thought time and planning just to make sure each parent is happy and so are the kids at drop-off and pickup. And maybe we just don't notice how it is to get the kids back into shape right before they are picks up. I have never had anyone take care of our kids like you all do. Looking back at it only being a year since being here you have made us feel better than ever leaving our kids with you all and your staff.

We've had wonderful experiences with Stepping Stone--the teachers (our favorite it Ms. Teresa) and the director have always been good at communicating and reliable. We feel comfortable that they are taking excellent care of our daughter, and will soon be caring for our little boy who is on the way. I've noticed that there's been very little turn over or change of staff since we've been there (which is not always the case for other child care centers) so I think they're doing something right over there from an employee point of view too. All the teachers are kind and patient and our daughter has always enjoying going to Stepping Stone. I've seen other people mention issues with the waiting list process. I think part of the issue is that this location is so small and in such high demand because if you live in the neighborhood (this location is an old converted house), it's wildly convenient and walkable. As soon as we were added to the waiting list--probably 8/9ish months ahead of our desired start date--we were told that we would eventually get into this location, but because of space and enrollment constraints we might need to spend sometime a another, bigger campus and wait until there was a spot for us to transfer. Not ideal, but it's a small campus and we've had such a good experience here that I wouldn't hesitate to do the same thing again even with the possibility of the minor inconvenience of spending some time at another location. When something is high demand, there's usually a good reason. And we've think Stepping Stone is great!

Our family moved to the US from another country, and her English level was very basic. I was worried about her adaptation without knowing the language. I'm so happy that I found Twin Oak because, over this period, she has quickly become fluent in English, made many friends, and looks forward to coming to school every day. The wonderful people from the school helped my daughter adapt to a new culture so easily. All the teachers, especially Miss Chuti and Miss Alina, have been incredibly kind and friendly to Nika. They really love children, and this is incredibly valuable to me. My heart always swells with happiness when I see my daughter smiling and happy after school. I love the educational program, which includes many topics such as science, math, new vocabulary, creative projects, and physical exercises like bicycling, splash days, and dance. They may be more traditional (no screens, no digital communication), but I actually enjoy that. I don't need photos of her everyday. I can tell she's learning and engaged by the things she tells and shows us at home and how happy she is to see her teachers and friends each day at drop-off. I appreciate that the teachers are spending their time with my child actually teaching and guiding. My daughter knows her numbers, colors, shapes - even a song that names all the planets. She gets exposed to foreign languages (Spanish, French, Japanese, ASL), music, yoga, other cultures and countries, and so much more. There are some older reviews that mention coloring sheets, but we haven't experienced that. One of the teachers who has been there for roughly 2 years is an artist herself and helps the children with a guided (every child makes their version of the same image) or self-expressive (every child creates what they would like) each week. We even have some framed up in our child's room. I highly recommend Twin Oaks.
