They added a vent to a bathroom that had been inexplicably left without one, improved the insulation throughout, and added an attic walkway for safety. We've been tolerating very uneven temps and noisy vents for the past 10 years, and I wish we would have discovered Green Collar sooner! It is *NICE* in here. Summary: they totally wasted my time, and are not trustworthy/competent for attic air sealing or…read moreHVAC. E.g. They recommended an HVAC return that would have never functioned correctly according to HVAC pros. They would have upgraded a supply plenum without changing ducts, which would have accomplished little. I had them come in the spring to assess my house. They suggested many improvements, of course, but the sales process is so clunky that any change requires them to reprice the whole quote. This wasted a bunch of time. They could complain about me, sure, but they were the ones trying to upsell me. They were supposed to pull out all insulation, air seal, and put in new insulation. However summer arrived and it got too hot, so the sorry changed: "we don't actually need to pull insulation, we can just move it around and seal and add new on top" of my existing feces ridden insulation which they originally insisted to remove! You cannot adequately air seal without removing insulation. Do your own research and you'll see. Afaik they were also not going to use the correct cans to seal around lights. For these reasons I was only going to use them to pull insulation and put in new, plus a few other non-specialist improvements. They also had nothing to say about the terrible air sealing around my doors because they never checked! "Energy savers" is a joke if you can't identify the largest energy leak for a house in the winter. When I came back to them to get a final quote, the ignored me twice before blowing me off. I would not recommend using them for anything.

Last month, Moore McDonough, owner of 360 Energy Savers and a local energy specialist, spent several days advising us on how to improve our older home's heating and cooling system. I'm a bottom line kind of a girl. Just the facts and make it quick. You do not get that with Moore. He gave us the Wikipedia version of everything and I certainly appreciated his knowledge. For example: "One inch of insulation material is equal to the heat resistance of a foot and a half of brick". Fascinating, right? This is definitely cocktail hour trivia. Moore's employees, Shawn and Eric, who are extremely polite and hard-working, installed weather-stripping, insulation, and expanded our vent system. These guys spent a lot of time crawling around the attic like giant rats. At one point, Moore brought in an Energy Conservationist who created a new duct system and performed additional work netting us numerous rebates from the City of Austin. Our first bill, even with the summer heat, was less than our last cooler weather bill. Plus, the rebates will pay for more than 25% of what we had done, which included a new air conditioning unit. We are now, accordingly, freezing in the summer.

So honestly, I didn't expect an attic makeover ALONE to completely solve our heat problem. Investigate your attic and air leaks before spending quadruple+ the cost to upgrade the entire hvac. With almost fossilized attic insulation, passive inefficient gable vent and no radiant heat barrier, we've been sweating inside the house as soon as the sun was out. While they were working on the attic with the old insulation removed and attic door open, the inside temperature spiked to 80°F with the AC blasting nonstop. Once the new insulation and radiant barrier was in, even our obsolete hvac was able to keep the house cold that we had to raise our target temperature. Mistakes happen, but how a company responds reveals their true character. After the blow-in, negative pressure began pulling loose insulation through hidden gaps around our furnace closet ceiling, clogging our AC filter and choking the airflow. Following a long evening of emergency DIY sealing and cleanup, I reached out to explain the situation. Jim and a technician showed up the very next morning, sincerely apologized, addressed all questions and concerns, and mastic-sealed everything properly. They earned this five-star review because instead of getting defensive, they treated us like human beings, owned the issue, audited what was missed in their protocol, and actively improved their process to prevent it from happening again.
