We wished we could put ZERO stars, but not an option here. We were with the original McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning team, but they are now gone. They were actual professionals with care, expertise, and professionalism. Today: zero team work and knowledge. Two days ago a technician came to our home smelling of tobacco smoke and making up repairs as he went from one floor to the next. First, we were told it would be $450 for one hour of labor. Then, we needed a new heating strip at $700, even though we're under warranty and with a maintenance plan. That night our heating dropped by ten degrees after the technician fumbled with wiring and reset the panel without our permission. We slept in 40-degree temperatures in our house for two days! We are still awaiting a reply and solution. When I call them, my calls go "offshore" to the Philippines. I cannot speak to anyone local to problem solve. Does anyone work here anymore and with skills and expertise? Who does this with no accountability and responsible behaviors as a business in Austin, Texas? The McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning team. Unreliable and full of jargon on this website: https://coolmenow.com/. Wordiness and skim and scams are core values at McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning. I learned their technicians are outsourced to third parties and under training. Be careful. Keep and stay away from McCullough Heating & Air Conditioning. If you must use their services, ask for printed reports on your system. Take pictures. Hold their wobbly team accountable and responsible. We've proof of what we speak.

The installation of new ac ducts went very smoothly and the workers cleaned up after finishing each day. I would highly recommend Green Collar to anyone needing duct replacement or repair.

The owner of the company provided our estimate, the team arrived within the time windows predicted, they were competent and courteous, and they did a *fantastic* job modernizing our system to heat quietly and evenly throughout. They added a vent to a bathroom that had been inexplicably left without one, improved the insulation throughout, and added an attic walkway for safety. We've been tolerating very uneven temps and noisy vents for the past 10 years, and I wish we would have discovered Green Collar sooner! It is *NICE* in here. I have no reservations about recommending Green Collar's services. Stay warm, y'all!

Sorry for the long review...but please read on to hear my horror story with this sorry excuse of a company. I don't normally write reviews (good or bad), but my poor experience with this company cannot go unheard. I feel obligated to warn others of their frankly criminal business practices. I originally called them out to take a look at my old HVAC that was no longer producing cold air. They identified the Freon was low and filled it back up. Worked well for a bit, but then got low again...indicating their was a leak in the system. The unit was so old, we decided to replace the unit instead of fixing it. The new unit was installed, but not without issue. I chose what they described as their go-to brand - American Standard. Apparently their technicians do not know how to install their go-to brand, because it took several days and several different technicians to get the install completed. A year later, the unit began tripping the breaker any time it went to the 2nd stage. Took them 3 days to come out (when approaching triple digit temperatures), charged $150 service fee and $450 in parts and labor to add a capacitor to the setup (a $50 part and about 10 minutes of labor). Did not fix the problem. Tech came out again, and said it seemed to be an issue with the breaker and that I needed to call an electrician to diagnose and solve the problem. Ended up paying $300 for an electrician to come out. When he took a look at the install, he was flabbergasted. He could not believe what he was seeing! He identified the unit was installed on an aluminum electrical line, that was severely undersized for the unit installed. He said no respectable company would EVER do this kind of shotty work. He said replacing the electrical line would likely cost a couple thousand dollars, since it was on the other side of the house. When I called Smart Air to let them know of the situation, the dispatcher was very dismissive. She said she would have their lead install tech follow up with me, but of course I never heard anything back... That is when they went dark despite several additional attempts on my part, and broke communication with me entirely. I ended up having to pay an electrician to run the new line on my own dollar - several thousand dollars - and now I'm finally back up and running.

It is the sound of money hemorrhaging from my household into Reliant Energy's bottomless maw. My house had issues. Let's just say that energy efficiency and green concerns were not at the top of the list when my cookie-cutter suburban pad was thrown together. My doors: permeable. My windows: radiant. My upstairs: a sweltering hotbox fit to slow roast a brisket to perfection. And onward droned the air conditioner. Now, before we go much further, I want you to know that I am not gullible. There are no magic solutions that would turn my house into a perfectly efficient icebox. It's bloody hot out there, and the relentless sun will have its due. I'm also not a wealthy man. I would not be swayed by some silver-tongued charlatan into undertaking a massive home renovation just to save some money on my electricity bill. I was looking for quick fixes for a fair price with tangible benefits (less hot air drafting into my house and less heating of my upper story from my attic). This is where the Energy Guys came in. I chatted with the owner (Jeff) as he was working on an insulation job for one my neighbors. I hate being sold to, so I was on guard for pressure sales tactics. Jeff was reasonable, factual, and laid-back. We did a walk-through of my house and came up with list of basic fixes. Thermal imaging confirmed what I suspected. My doors were leaking due to terrible weather-stripping, my upper story was baking due to poor insulation in my attic, and my duct work was poorly sealed with precious cold air leaking into my attic. Though I have windows that are just turrible, Jeff advised me that taking a second mortgage to replace them just didn't make sense for my house and situation. I've got two kids in daycare and a prodigious appetite for fine espresso, wine, and other edibles. There's not a lot of money sitting around to plow back into my house, but the bill was reasonable. The work should qualify for rebates offsetting a big portion of the cost, but that part hasn't been done yet. Jeff and his crew were professional, skilled, easy to work with, and punctual! My upstairs feels cooler, and I can't feel hot air seeping in from my front and back doors. Even better, there are now more frequent reprieves from the droning of the air conditioner. For anyone looking for an energy audit or other home energy services, these guys were great to work with. Highly recommended.

When my A/C failed at 2AM on a Sunday, they were the only company able to come out immediately (I called at least 5 others). The technician arrived promptly, diagnosed the problem efficiently (faulty fan motor on my Carrier unit), and completed the repair within a couple hours, including a trip to source the part from their vendor. The Concerning The final cost was $2,303.60 for what I've since learned should typically cost $700-$1,000 (that is including emergency service fees). While I understand emergency calls command premium pricing, this felt excessive. Additionally, the quoted price increased from $2,000 to $2,303.60 when it was time to pay without clear explanation of the additional charges. My Takeaway Apex delivers on availability and technical competence when you're in a crisis. However, I'd strongly recommend getting multiple quotes if time permits, as their emergency pricing appears significantly above market rate. The convenience of immediate service came at a steep premium that I wasn't prepared for. Would I use them again? Only in a true emergency where no other options exist, and I'd request detailed pricing breakdowns upfront. For future customers: Get clear, written estimates before work begins, and ask about all potential additional fees.
