Loved everything about them! I flew business class BOS to VIE and they treated my travel companion and I like VIPs. I really did not want for much, just to stretch out and relax, but they kept bringing me more delicious morsels. The seat was comfortable and the food was good. The chef and the crew went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and well-fed. I especially loved the fennel soup. I dipped m bread into it and it was quite delicious. I had the beef (not pictured because I already dug into it before I remembered to take a photo) and it was pretty delicious. Breakfast was good, but I was not super hungry, as it seems like we had just eaten recently. My favorite seat feature was the massage function. It was light, but noticeable. A nice touch.

Caveat, I haven't actually flown with Austrian yet. BUT their customer service/website/consistency of information is so terrible I feel justified in leaving this review. I bought my ticket through United Airlines MONTHS ago EWR to VIE, INN to EWR. The flight to Vienna is operated by Austrian through United, the flight back to the States is operated by United. Despite booking MONTHS in advance, was told I couldn't choose seats until check in. Was told over phone by customer service representative, via email, and via website that check in is 47 hours beforehand. Am now 47 hours beforehand and unable to check in. Called the same customer service representative and surprise! can't check in until 36 hours beforehand. Austrian keeps moving the goal posts. Similar situation trying to sort out luggage limitations. Basically everything is inaccurate/they keep moving the goal posts. Be prepared, NEVER EVER book an 'operated by Austrian' flight unless you're prepared to spend thousands of dollars and be treated like a third class citizen. read more

Awesome. They offered us a seat upgrade if we'd karaoke a Christmas song at the gate. Free premium economy upgrade for everyone in my group. Each passenger got a large chocolate Santa before boarding. The flight itself was great. No issues. Food was pretty good. Inflight entertainment was top notch. Staff was friendly. It was an international flight so I had my fill of whiskey, cognac, and beer. Thanks Austrian Airlines read more

A broken airline company if there ever was one. Now to be fair, the employees have been beaten to death with layoffs, management shakeups, acquisitions, insolvency, and cost cutting. But these events have left them in a terrible state, with incredibly nasty attitudes, and a "not my job" frame of mind. Its no wonder that the company was insolvent as a stand alone company. But as its been owned by Lufthansa for several years, I would have expected some level of adult supervision to show up at Austrian, but alas, that hasn't happened. The pattern of terrible behavior is consistent with everyone who seems to come into contact with the airline employees. The planes are pretty new, I'm sure the flight crews are competent, but the customer facing employees are worse than the worst US airlines I've dealt with for years. The integration between Lufthansa's systems and Austrian's systems are abysmal, only compounded by the fake "low cost carrier" personalty that Austrian is trying to lay claim to with the crazy Light fares that are being sold through the Lufthansa system. None of it makes much sense. Fake low fares, compounded with super high checked baggage fees and no carry on for economy is a bizarre strategy, but all the airlines are kind of nutty on these things. And their hub at Vienna airport is suitably chaotic for the way the airline's employees behave. I'll never use Austrian again voluntarily. read more

Have not even flown yet and already fed up with the customer service. Do NOT book through United if you see "operated by Austrian Air" as you will be stuck paying extra for an assigned seat. You will NOT be able to upgrade to premium or business class as their web site says you can. You will not be able to check in at 47 hours like their web site says you can.They will next tell you 36 hours. Then they will say you cannot check in at all with Austrian as you check in with United. But then....YOU CAN'T UPGRADE YOUR CABIN through United. United says you need to call Austrian. Austrian say talk to the ticket counter at United. So, money in hand, offering to spend it on an upgrade and no one will take it. I can already foresee a luggage problem because I have THREE different answers to how much cabin luggage I can bring. read more

I flight with my family from Miami Fl to Vienna Au with a stop in Zurich by the end of June 2019. Just cause when we arrived to Zurich we realized cause our flight to Vienna was cancelled and we have to make one more stop to CGN Germany . We got in Vienna 5 hours later with none of our check baggage arriving . We got our bagages Saturday morning, after I went to the airport to get them and when my wife went they the bagages she realized cause about 6 dresses . 5 parfumés and 2 pair of jeans was missing . Worst experience what you can have when you see you stuff missing and gifts what you got for your family. read more

My daughter was 15 and solo coming from Austria to Nashville with a stop at Chicago. They delayed her flight to Chicago for two hours and she missed her other flight to TN. They did not try to help her and even told her that it was not their problem and she had to stay the night at the hectic Chicago airport alone. They did not even give her a hotel. I would highly not recommend. read more

These Pilots are the best, they really strive to make things go as smooth as possible. Their flights are diverse with great connections. Vienna has at lest 30 Major Air Carriers, US and Intl. available. Within Europe you can click online above, they have a great area they cover. read more

My son is on a trip to Italy with his school and they took this airline. My son ordered Chicken Alfredo and within 30 minutes he was feeling ill and then began throwing up- and he hasn't stopped. He threw up at the airport in front of everyone on the educational tour, on the connecting flight, on the bus, and now in his hotel room. He is sleeping with a trash can next to his bed. He is a very good kid and has worked hard for this trip. He paid with his own savings and he has been working years for this. I am livid! This is a very special trip for him. His 8th grade graduation educational tour. I wanted him to experience the beauty and learn about Italy and all of the amazing sights, but thanks to your food- he will not experience what he was wishing for. I am on hold with your airline as I type this. BEWARE TRAVELERS don't eat the food on this airline and warn your friends and family. read more

Air Canada subcontracted a flight from Vienna to Toronto with Austrian Airlines. Have yet to fly with them given a flight cancellation, which resulted in being placed on a flight 24 hrs later. Customer service experience, both on the phone and in person, has been absolutely atrocious. From the lack of flexibility, to the refusal to book with non-partnered airlines, to the incredibly unprofessional/rude airline reps...not only will I never fly with this airline again, I will not fly with Air Canada, whose customer service has been as equally unhelpful. read more

One of the worst experiences ever! Our first time flying with Austrian airlines, going from Vienna to Zurich. We got to the airport 2 hours in advance as advised, the gate was posted finally only to look minutes later to see our flight was canceled. Hurried to get rebooked, found out we couldn't get another flight for 8 more hours! We had to wait around that long, then the flight was delayed! I will never fly this airline again or recommend them to anyone! I would stay home if they were the only airline flying! Totally left a bad memory of Vienna... read more

Worst budget airline. First time and last time we will fly with this bad airline. We completed 4 legs with this airline and its partner and in route back we transited back in Vienna. The ground crew claimed that our standard carry ons are suddenly too big and insisted we have to pay $200.00 to check in. Seriously????!! We are transiting and our bags suddenly got too big in a few hours?? We flew 4 legs with this airline with no problem. Very unfriendly crew both inflight and on the ground. Just a bunch of unhappy people. After arguing they waive the fee for the forced bag checkins. Would NEVER fly with this airline again. Worst airline, bad service, grumpy people, stay away if you dont want to ruin your trip. read more

This airlines are absolutely worst!!!! I am never flying with them again and I would suggest you never do so either! They have lost both of my luggages on my way from Frankfurt to Vienna. In one suitcase I have all my clothes and the other is all my presents! The overbooked the flight and suggested that I vhevk in my carry on too. So I did to help them out! Now I have no ctohes and no presents for my family that I only see once a year. Someone called me from there today and said my luggage is in Munich?! Why in Munich I have no clue! They said thay might be able to get my luggagee to me sometimes next week... I called no answer, I emailed no answer, I called to Munich and got transferred to phone number that hang up on me, I requested to talk to management and got hang up on!!! All I wanted to know is wwhere exactly my luggage is and get it! By I can't get no where!!!! The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! THEY DON ´T CARE!!!! Ruined Christmas!!!!! read more

Great food, very pleasant and courteous staff. Business Class lounge is good, but could be updated with more comfortable seating. Business Class pods ok, could be more spacious with better tech, but overall a good experience and will fly again. read more

I just called this number for the third time in two days 1(800)843-0002 and spoke to one of the representatives i explained my situation that i had an emergency health situation and i will not be able to take my flight so I requested to change my flight and of course i showed them proof, so after calling them 3 times I finally got a hold of the supervisor shes was not cooperating at all and started to make my problem evan harder, she was giving me none sense excuses, at the end she said to me call our office in Europe to solve your problem ( of course it didn't make sense cuz at the end its the same airline) i said ok fine give me the number she started saying the numbers very quickly when i asked her to repeat the number she said ohh i cant hear u i cant hear u call us back and she hang the phone on my face of course she was LYING big time, on top of that when i was on hold for more than 20 min for each call. Its really sad when there are thousands of people out there looking for a job and ridiculous people like this supervisor who has no i idea about customer service are in charge.. read more

I understand that planes can be overbooked. I do not understand my experience with this airline. I was traveling from Geneva to Vienna. I arrived at the airport more than two hours in advance and was near the front of the check-in line. I had a prepaid non-refundable confirmed reservation ticket in hand. I was issued a standby seat. Fortunately, I was later placed on the flight, after waiting at the gate for 45 minutes for an agent to arrive who was able to give me a seat of someone who was a no-show. Beware if you plan to use this airline. read more

I flight from VIE-ORD, was a whole new experience. great inflight catering with a chef on board, new seats, fully reclinable into a bed, on time, friendly staff. I liked their operation's efficiency; I have nothing to complain at all. read more

If you're looking for the company when everything goes according to plan and there is no problem, then here you go. The PROBLEM IS.... When such a company cancels your flight and does not BOTHER to inform you about the situation. So you find yourself in Shanghai after a bit more than 15 hours on route from Christchurch, New Zealand to Vienna, Austria where they inform you, that YOUR FLIGHT WAS CANCELLED!!! In the middle of your trip.... with no bags and no way to get them as you walked out without them, because no one bothered to inform you, that MAYBE there is some problem.... Well, they provided hotel and one meal - for 13 hours wait - I give them that, however there was NO communication about what is happening, when and how.... When I got the the airport for different flight they provided - different company and NO DIRECT FLIGHT - another "pleasant" surprise, other company does not allow customers in economy class to carry two pieces of luggage... I had to pay for every single extra kg I had. Shortly for 18kg I paid app. 1000,- euros! Yes...... So, I arrived to Vienna 23 hours later and 1000,- euros shorter and claimed my compensation.. Austrian did not bother TO ANSWER for 2 months.... They answered after I complained on their FB page (??!!!) and after that they compensate me for late arrival and then informed me THAT IT IS NOT THEIR BUSINESS, that I had to pay that outrageous amount of money for the second bag. The problem is, that IT IS their problem, according to EU guidelines and Directions, so I'm convinced that they are just trying to SAVE money and LIE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS! That is the truth about Austrian and how they do their business and how they treat their customers! Don't get me wrong, well before my trip I called both airlines operating this flight to inform about any additional costs for the second bag and with no word paid to the second company for the extra bag.... So, it is not my fault as I did everything I could to do everything correctly. Obviously I was the only one. Conclusion... do not flight with them, unless you are fine with the fact, that you may loose one day in your life, experience A LOT OF STRESS and loose your money. read more

Terrible, our flight from Vienna to LAX on Sept 30, 2017 was cancelled and the only reason we were given is that the plane never arrived from LA. we waited around at Budapest airport until we were put onto a LOT airlines flight to LAX from Warsaw. I had done online check-in 48 hours before and downloaded the pass for my husband, I had trouble so I waited until I arrived at the airport. Had I not had trouble downloading my pass we would have found out until we got to Vienna that our flight was cancelled to LAX. Terrible we were not sent any notification regarding the cancellation until I got to the front check in point and the attendant notified us that the Vienna flight was cancelled. Terrible! the attendant was able to accommodate us with LOT airlines, but since everything was booked me and my husband had to sit in two different sections of the plane. I should have listened to previous reviews. read more

Our second time using Austrian Airlines (as part of a Lufthansa booking) to go from Frankfurt to Vienna. And once again, just like last time, the plane and crew still hadn't landed at FRA by the time they were to fly us to VIE. Left our FRA hotel at 11.00 to arrive airport by 12.00 to checkin for our 14.15 flight..... which finally lifted off at 16.40 and landed at 18.15. Add in the S7 subway leg once we landed, and we ended up getting to our hotel just in time for quick dinner and then wind down for bed. Entire day spent in Austrian air travel when we hoped for at least part of the afternoon to walk the City Center. Two times is enough. Will never try again. I read elsewhere on here that Austruan Airlines is struggling. Pity. It shows. Next time we will take the train. Why suffer the ugliness of 8 hours of air travel just to spend 1.5 hours in the air, when a more relaxing and reliable 8 hr choice exists. read more

We flew with this airline for the first time. That will be our last time too. It was a roundtrip Miami-Sofia Sofia-Miami. Flight OS98 on 10th June and OS800 on 24 June. Every flight is 12 hours so the staff should make it as comfortable as possible for the passengers.Not the case here.. Flight attendants are rude and unfriendly. Costumer service is definitely not something they are familiar with. No menus are offered on board whatsoever. You don't have any choice of meals and you get whatever they decide. The food is tasteless and not ok even for a flight meal.Beverages are only poured in a sip sized cups and if you dare to request a whole can, you get a dirty look and a rude comment. The so called "snacks" are tiny packs of crackers which are small even for my 6yr old daughter. Flight attendants are not accommodating at all and don't offer any help for anything. The staff on the Vienna Airport is also rude and not friendly. I would never fly again with this company. I felt awfully unwelcome and uncomfortable throughout both of our flights. Worst service. Online check in is not working and customer service is not a help at all. Customer service thinks it is a favor that passengers may be able to use online check in and seat selection and told me so. Such an Airline with this level of incompetency and poor customer service should not operate in US market read more

I purchased a ticket a month ago (Vienna-Krasnodar), only to find out yesterday that the Austrian Airlines has changed its schedule. Austrian issued a new ticket automatically, and booked a flight through Moscow Domodedovo. The direct option was expensive and I was willing to pay the price to have the convenience of having a direct flight to my destination. The flight Vienna-Domodedovo-Krasnodar is much cheaper, but Austrian would not issue any compensation for price difference. Dealing with reservation help desk was not a pleasant experience either. To get a call through, waiting time was on between 16 and 22 minutes based on 4 attempts made). Staff was not helpful. I had re-booked my direct flight on a date 5 days after my originally planned departure. Again, no compensation for the time lost. Upon checking the price on the website, the price of the new ticket on the website was cheaper than the one I had paid. Again, I was told no compensation will be provided since I ti "long term cancellation" (whatever that means). Dissatisfied with Austrian Airlines. Poor customer service and terrible support. Long waiting times in a telephone queue. This is the 4th time happening to me when booking with Austrian Airlines. I never have such problems with any other airlines (Qantas, Emirates, Etihad, British Airways, Iberia). Will avoid Austrian Airlines in the future and recommend you say away from them. Every booking I had with them (11/12 flights in total without exception) had some problems. Change in flight schedule, overselling seats (showing up at the airport only to be told that there are no seats available on the plain). If you want your trip to go smoothly, choose other airline! Don't book with Austrian Airline! Terrible! read more

My wife had to cancel a flight for a medical reason. We were told by Austrian Airlines that her ticket price would be credited to be used at a later date, less a change fee. When I called to make a reservation to use the credit for a flight to Vienna, my experience was terrible. First, I waited on hold for about 30 minutes, the agent was rude right from the start, and he told me that Austrian Airlines does not give credits. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and the Agent told me there was no Supervisor available and to call back tomorrow. TERRIBLE customer service. Credit or no credit, I'll fly another airline from now on. I suggest you do the same! read more

This will be a lengthy post. I have no idea whether anyone will find it interesting. For those who read it in its entirety, I'd be interested in your views. In January 2024, we purchased roundtrip air tickets on Austrian Airlines (AA) from Dulles Airport outside DC to Vienna, Austria. We were supposed to fly to Vienna on April 29, 2024. The day before our flight, I received an email from AA announcing that our flight had been cancelled and AA would make alternative arrangements for us. I called AA quickly to make those arrangements. I made a new reservation for us on the same flight for the following day. I didn't change our return flight in October. AA allows international passengers to check in two days before their flights. So, about 40 hours before our October return flight, I tried to check in. I tried numerous times but kept getting an error message. Our reservation appeared on my AA web account and on my AA App but I couldn't check in either on my laptop or on the AA App. I called AA's customer service at least three times during the two days before our return flight. They informed me that AA was having technical difficulties with its computer systems and that we should arrive early to the Vienna airport to check in there. On the date of our return flight, we arrived at the Vienna airport about two hours and 40 minutes before our flight. We tried to check in at the self-service kiosk and an AA representative offered to help us. With her assistance, we tried to check in three times, all without success. She escorted us to the baggage service counter where she told us another representative would be able to help us. The woman at the baggage counter was able to find our reservation but not our tickets. She made some calls but was unsuccessful. After about fifteen minutes, she directed us to the AA ticket counter. We spent the next 70 minutes or so at the ticket counter working with three AA agents, one of whom was the manager. The first woman also said she found our reservation but not our tickets. She said she couldn't give us our boarding passes without our tickets. Her first solution was for us to purchase one-way tickets to Washington DC. I told her that was ridiculous; that we had already paid for roundtrip tickets and would not pay for more tickets. She said that when AA rebooked us in April on our flight to Vienna, AA had cancelled our return flight and had given us refunds of $66.90 each to convert our two round trip tickets to one-way tickets. I scoured my credit card statements and I found the AA refunds in my June statement. However, I never received an email from AA notifying me of a refund for a roundtrip to a slightly less expensive one-way trip. And, because AA had downgraded us from premium economy to regular economy from our cancelled to our rebooked flight in April, I thought any refund was to compensate for that downgrade. The manager of the ticket office was the only AA representative who actually listened to me. She agreed that it made no sense for our allegedly cancelled reservation to remain on my AA web account and on my AA App. She had added that we had done nothing wrong. The manager told us that this was the only time in her 23 years at AA that this had happened to any passengers. She told us she would figure out how to fix it. It took her another 20 minutes or so but she finally called us over to collect our return flight tickets to DC. She said she was unable to seat us together, but she'd call ahead to the gate agent to see if she could do that. We finally checked our luggage and walked hurriedly across the airport to security, border control, the customs VAT refund office, and our gate. When we arrived at the gate, passengers were already boarding our flight. The gate agent told us she would likely be able to seat us together and she was able to do that. The flight was completely full. All in all, our return trip was stressful. There was an hour or so when we thought we wouldn't be allowed to board. I wonder whether AA will credit us our frequent flyer miles for our return flight. Any thoughts? read more

My husband and I traveled with our 6-month-old daughter from Texas to Austria this past September, and while our baby was an absolute angel, Austrian Airlines made this trip a nightmare. Our flight from Texas was delayed over an hour because they didn't have enough staff to load the plane. This delay caused us to miss our connecting flight -- through no fault of our own. When we went to the Austrian Airlines counter for help, we were told our only options were to wait until 10 PM for the next flight or take a train. Neither was reasonable after already traveling so many hours with an infant. We asked about a refund for the missed connection and were told to email customer service. After doing so, they denied our request, claiming we had "enough time" to make the connection -- completely ignoring the fact that a customs trainee held us up by unpacking and testing every single item in our carry-ons. Because of that delay, we missed our flight and were forced to rent a car and drive four hours to our final destination at our own expense. To make matters worse, Austrian Airlines then canceled our return flights entirely because we missed the final leg on the way there. We had to pay to reinstate those tickets, and we also lost the money we spent upgrading to extra-legroom seats. Our return flight ended up in cramped seats with zero legroom, despite having paid for the upgrade. And as if that wasn't enough, when we finally arrived back in Texas, our brand new $120 suitcase was completely destroyed -- split wide open and literally wrapped in rope by the airline to hold it together. I even have video proof of them wrapping it. Throughout all of this, customer service was dismissive and offered absolutely no assistance, compensation, or even an apology. I strongly recommend avoiding Austrian Airlines. Their flight schedules are far too tight to realistically make connections -- especially for families -- and their customer service is completely unhelpful when their own operational failures cause problems. I finally check in and get on the plane, plane was gorgeous and flight attendants for most part were very hard working. Half the people on this flight were idiots, loud, arrogant, dirty and bathrooms even after a couple hours in flight were dirty, urine on the floor, clogged up sinks. Absolutely disgusting!!!! Like a fourth world country on a top of the line plane. I will never ever fly Unitedagain!!!! Would rather pay twice as much and get to Amman in 3 days then fly this airline. As an Emerald member with the oneworld alliance, I have always received complimentary seat selection on partner airlines. That changed with airline. I paid $140 for two seats that were clearly shown as a two seat row. When my wife and I boarded, we discovered the row actually had three seats. No one pays extra for a middle seat -- ever. My seat number was k6 and the seat has no cushion whatsoever, I had to stack pillows and blanket to prevent back pain Most incompetent company I've had to deal with. Called someone in Detroit to get information about the plane and flight, he gives me another number to call I believe it was in Chicago. I call that number, another person tells me we don't handle this, you have to call another number. Called that number, that person gave me the original Detroit number. I called Detroit back, another person answers and gives me the information I was asking to begin with. Not done yet. I finally check in and get on the plane, plane was gorgeous and flight attendants for most part were very hard working. Half the people on this flight were idiots, loud, arrogant, dirty and bathrooms even after a couple hours in flight were dirty, urine on the floor, clogged up sinks. Absolutely disgusting!!!! Like a fourth world country on a top of the line plane. I will never ever fly airline again!!!! Would rather pay twice as much and get to Amman in 3 days then fly this airline. Rather take any other airline that go through that hell AgaiN. read more

The onboard seating experience was also uncomfortable. My assigned seat, 6K, lacked sufficient cushioning, making it difficult to sit comfortably during the journey. I had to use extra pillows and blankets to support my back and reduce discomfort throughout the flight. Customer service before departure was equally frustrating. I contacted one office for information regarding my flight and aircraft, only to be transferred to another department. After several phone calls and multiple referrals between different offices, I eventually reached someone who provided the information I originally requested. The process was unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. While the aircraft itself was modern and visually impressive, and several flight attendants worked hard to assist passengers, the overall cabin environment left much to be desired. Restrooms became untidy early in the flight, with cleanliness issues that negatively affected the travel experience.
