Loved everything about them! I flew business class BOS to VIE and they treated my travel companion and I like VIPs. I really did not want for much, just to stretch out and relax, but they kept bringing me more delicious morsels. The seat was comfortable and the food was good. The chef and the crew went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and well-fed. I especially loved the fennel soup. I dipped m bread into it and it was quite delicious. I had the beef (not pictured because I already dug into it before I remembered to take a photo) and it was pretty delicious. Breakfast was good, but I was not super hungry, as it seems like we had just eaten recently. My favorite seat feature was the massage function. It was light, but noticeable. A nice touch.

Terrible terrible customer service. Save yourself, dont fly this airline. At Vienna, the desk people are hateful rude people. I tried calling in and kept getting routed to wrong desk. At the desk, they are confused AND lazy. They will hangout in between clients when you have a full area. Only one kiosk works. Then there is a lady saying not to use the number machine so half people in lline have a number others do not. In this day and age i cant imagine a worst system. AA you have failed in a major way!! read more

Friendly and attentive staff. Kept us well fed and hydrated the whole 9 hour flight! Unlimited free beer and wine too. The ride was also very smooth (from Munich, Germany to LAX). The selection of in-flight entertainment was pretty good too. I would definitely use Austrian Airlines again. read more

Our experience with Austrian Airlines: Let me start by saying we are a couple travelling extensively by air, and as a result we have experience with all travel related matters. The trip we were completing in the beginning of December 2019 turned out to be a horrifying experience from a customer service standpoint. Our itinerary was Bucharest-Vienna-Zurich-Los Angeles. We started our return trip in Bucharest. We arrived in Vienna on time. We had 50 min to our connecting flight. This 50 min was supposed to be enough to cover security and immigration. To make matters worse, our arriving flight stopped at a remote gate (on the tarmac). By the time they shuttled us (by bus) to the terminal gate we had 20min to go through security and immigration. Although Austrian knew we were on the previous flight, they made no efforts on having a staff member helping us make our connection. Nor they even tried to hold the plane for 10 more minutes. You guessed the rest of the story...we missed our connection to LAX. I am fast forwarding 10min and we are sitting (sweat pouring on our faces from trying to make the connection) at the Austrian customer desk. I have to say only a very few times we felt so belittled. The staff was rude and aggressive, and did not acknowledge that 20min for an international connection is not enough time. They did not help at all, and told us to go to the United Airlines transfer desk (our flights were booked on United). We asked for directions and they told us United does not have an office in Austria. They probably think it was funny...We spoke with an Austrian supervisor, and we got same rude treatment and a cold shoulder. The whole staff was acting unprofessional, and they did not even help with a contact number for United. Our bad experience with Austrian made us realize this airline is not to be trusted with our travels from this point in time going forward, and we decided never to come back to Austria and never again set foot on an Austrian airlines plane. We ended up calling United in USA and they re-booked us on a flight next morning. Thank you United! I hope our review will help other travelers out there when making a decision to fly with Austrian. Someone looking for a satisfying air travel experience should steer away from Austrian. read more

Dear Austrian airlines This is the first time I have flown with you and it will be the last. I just arrived in Vienna to find out that you have overbooked your business class ticket from my trip to Miami flight 97 leaving at 9:55 AM. You have offered no compensation. I am now on standby for a full fare business class ticket that was paid in full. To say I am disappointed and this will be the last time I fly Austrian Airlines is an understatement. They have tentatively rebooked me on a flight from Vienna to Zürich. And Zürich to Miami. This is not how I planned to spend my day and again I don't think I will ever fly your airlines again and I will be posting this to my Facebook and Instagram They just don't care!!!!!! read more

Update: I FINALLY received my refund on Aug 22, a full month after our return flight. It took Austrian Airlines another two days to actually reach out to me, but I did receive a phone call from a lovely woman who wanted to check that I'd received the refund, and apologized profusely for the lack of communication to my prior emails. She said she would also refund the $70 that I had paid at our initial booking for the window seats in economy that we didn't end up getting. None of my emails to Austrian were ever responded to, nor were either of the ones I sent to PlusGrade after being informed to do so by Austrian. Overall, our flight experiences were fine, but their refund process and their customer service have a LONG way to go. Original review: I am absolutely livid with the customer service we have received with Austrian Airlines. I recently flew Austrian with my husband on a trip from Los Angeles to Vienna - using the new direct service that was launched earlier this year. We applied for the "Smart Upgrade" for both flights, and were contacted two days before our return flight that we were awarded the upgrade to business class on our return flight on July 22, for $705/ticket ($1,410 total). However, when we checked into the airport in Vienna on July 22, we were told that business class had been oversold. I had already been charged for the upgrade, and because of the upgrade, we also lost the window seats that I had paid $70 for at our initial booking. We were re-booked for seats in the middle section of the airplane that weren't even next to each other (not to mention my seat had been double booked and a sweet old lady was in my seat when I boarded, causing more havoc), and were told that our money would be refunded IF we contacted Austrian when we arrived home. I contacted Austrian about the refund when we got back, and was told on the phone that I had to open a "claim" on their "complements and complaints" page of their website. I did so on July 25. It is now August 14, and I still have not received a refund for the upgrade that we did not receive. I have emailed, reached out via social media, and called Austrian several times. None of my emails have been responded to. My social media messages were replied to with a "we can't help you, there's nothing we can do" message. On the occasions I have called, I have been informed that it takes up to three weeks for refunds to be processed. Finally, this morning, since it's been three weeks, I was referred to ANOTHER email address to contact (which had never been offered to me until now). I have emailed that group - PlusGrade.com, and looked up their number online since no one at Austrian was able to supply me with a phone contact. Upon calling their NY office line at 11:40am ET, my call was directed straight to a voicemail where I could leave a detailed message. No response yet. The airline swears up and down that I'll get a refund, but it's absolutely insane and unacceptable that my money has been essentially held hostage by this company due to their incompetence and terrible customer service. Awful business practice of a) overselling seats, and b) charging customers for the upgrade before they are even 100% confirmed for it. read more

My first experience flying with Austrian Airlines left a lot to be desired. After we took off from Vienna and flew for over an hour, the crew realized that there is no water in the plane tanks....the bathrooms had no running water so we had to fly back. OK, no big deal, better safe than sorry. However, I would have thought that they would provide some facilities for the inconvenience, perhaps some refreshments, etc. All they did was apologize, bring few bottles of water that were not enough for everyone, and told us that there will be no meals on the next flight because "we got our meal on the first flight". Quite cheap and inconsiderate behavior after delaying us for close to 5 hours. read more

Horrible experience. Got on the phone with customer service. Thie website states that you can rebook free of charge. Customer service says they will charge an additional amount that does not reflect their website. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the same guy hopped on the phone 2 minutes later and pretended to change his voice. This is the worst way I have done business with an airline. And I live in the States. Stay away from this airline. read more

After repeated errors trying to reserve seats, I found myself in the horror land that is the Austrian Airlines social media team. Incompetent doesn't begin to cover their handling of this situation. Every message I sent was read by a different person who couldn't or wouldn't read any message I had sent other than the most recent one, meaning they had NO IDEA what the actual problem was. They even told me at one point that they had fixed the website error and I could now reserve seats, which was a total lie. In the end I had to ring an international rate phone number to try and get it sorted, due to their refusal to organise for someone to ring me. Despite paying £600+ on tickets and having to pay ~£50 more to reserve seats. AVOID read more

Premium economy for Gold Star alliance means you get the middle seat. Called Vienna New York and no ability to select seat. App did not work 30 days before trip 48 hours before or 24 hours. Always excuses. I souls not even learn my seat at my check airport (Tirana) until 2 hours before departure. Customer service blames codesharing with United. However I did not have the issue with Lufthansa. I would rather an economy seat window or aisle. I also couldn't purchase Business Class upgrade. Book only Austrian all the way or AVOID. read more

Excellent Airline!! I am looking forward to travel again from Usa to Europe with this airline. Such a pleasant flight attendance. My returning flight was excellent , I had to stop in Viena , timing to another flight was just perfect. Food was delicious , movies selection and music was excellent. 5 starts , if I could I would give 10 stars to this airline and its employees ! DANKE read more

Flight cancelled after three hours on the terminal because of "technical issues", the check in process is an unorganized nightmare, and we sat in the airport for two hours before we ever got a chance to try and rebook. Horrible horrible experience. read more

I am so frustrated with this airline! We have an international trip booked for 8 people, including 4 minors. We are flying multiple airlines and have not had an issue with the other airline booking our seat assignments. I have tried FIVE times now to reserve seats with Austrian. With Austrian Airlines I have to buy my seat reservation if I want to pick my seat. Fine. No problem. I bought my seats....twice now! Each time the payment went through and then three days later, each time, my money was refunded and we no longer had seats. I have called twice. Both times I was assured that the problem was fixed and that we had our seats reserved. Each time, again, my seats were unreserved just a few days later. I emailed the company a very detailed summary of what happened and their reply made it seem like they hadn't even read my email and referred me to the same place that I had been trying to buy my seats but they keep refunding them. I would not care if it were 8 adults. We could figure it out but I am flying with 3 of my children and a foreign exchange student. I need to not have my children spread throughout the plane since they are young. No one seems to care or will help me. I will never use this airline again! read more

We flew Copenhagen to Iasi Romania via. Vienna with just one checked in bag. Austrian messed up the bag transfer in Vienna even though it was checked in all the way to our destination and didn't deliver it until 27 hours later - not even at our hotel but had us meet them in the middle of the city. Since we where now in Romania wearing only sweatpants and with no essentials, we purchased some core items such as toothbrushes, underwear etc. all very modest and asked Austrian to reimburse the cost. They however flatly denied as 27 hours is apparently not long enough to warrant a change of underwear in their opinion. They offered a 50 EUR voucher, but after their customer service experience I am never flying with them again, so that is pretty useless and I'd still be out of money for their mistake. read more

The profiling that goes on on this airline is unbelievable. I was in a group of 31 and only the two Mexicans and the black members of my group were singled out. I was embarrassed and asked to weigh my carry on then I was told that I couldn't take it on because it was not 8 kg it was 10 when I removed the extra weight she then stated that it was a total weight for both carryons. I have never been ask to weigh my carry on and furthermore none of my Caucasian member of my group were asked to weigh their carry ons and theirs weighed over 15 kg, only the three of us were. read more

We have been waiting 3 months for our refund. Austrian Airlines does not allow customers to talk to its feedback (aka customer service department) by phone. Only emails are permitted. Worse, the feedback department cannot talk with the accounting department by phone. They can only send a written request for payment of our refund to the scanning department which forwards it to accounting. The accounting department has promised to wire on three occasions. They used the wrong information and the wrong amount on one occasions, but have refused to provide written confirmation of the other two attempts. Of course, we have not seen the money. I don't know who we can ask to Make Austrian Airlines Great Again. read more

They will lose your bags. My wife flew Austrian Airlines to and from the States and they lost her luggage going and coming. I wouldn't be writing this review if it weren't for the fact that they haven't found her luggage after losing it on the return flight. They seemed very helpful at the beginning but after a week they suddenly dropped all intent to look for her luggage. I have tried to contact them by phone and by email but their Central Baggage Tracing Office has disconnected their number and their email responses say the same thing. My Dad has worked for a U.S. based airline for more than 25 years and in all my experience with his company I've never experienced a problem like this; I've had my luggage lost a lot but I've always dealt with people willing to help. I've started to call the airports she connected through in order to see if they might be able to help, but none can help because it is Austrian Airlines responsibility. read more

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. Please read before buying a ticket of them. In all my 32yrs alive, I have never wanted to give a company more than a minus review. The story was this. I had to travel to Varna Bulgaria from London UK, the only ticket available was a transfer to Vienna Austria. While the advertised landing time was 9.15am in Vienna, I actually got out of the plane at 9.27am, after that I had to get on a shuttle bus, and then 2 gates of passport checks, and 1 custom check, before I can get on to my 10am connected flight. Bearing in mind that the Gates close 15 minutes before the scheduled flight time, means I only have 15 minutes to do all this and run to the Gate before it closes off at 9.45am. Having missed my flight, I was told that unfortunately I have to wait 24hrs before the next flight to Varna, but I was given option at the Helpdesk to amend my ticket to go to another city but I will have to pay for the rest of my journey. In all my life of travel I have NEVER missed a transfer flight, but at that moment I just realised that this was an impossible task and I was set up to fail. The lady at the Helpdesk's first response was to state that it is not their fault because the flight was scheduled to take off on time - even though when I eventually got to the Gate at 9.50am, the plane had long left. So why should I want to fly Austrian Airlines when they f--k their customers like that? I could have purchased a direct flight from another company, I could have chosen a flight with a better time arrangements rather than getting to the airport at 6am. Instead I ended up having to buy a flight ticket because I was faced with the prospect of being stuck in Vienna for 24hrs. All in all, I had suffered an additional 8hrs delay to my journey, stress of deciding which city to move to, forced to purchase an alternative ticket on the spot, and caused significant disruption to my plans. Days later, I emailed them and asked for a partial refund (because they have no direct phonelines to handle complaints, why?), and of course their policy was ready for such complains and denied me a fair compensation. Their responses are very structured, it was as if they are used to such challenges. All they gave were "...Please be advised, flight OS 458 departed with delay of 8 minutes due to Air Traffic Flow Management restrictions and arrived 2 minutes earlier" - which was a lie because when I got to the Gate at 9.50am, there were no planes there, it had already taken off EARLY in fact. All this presentation of 'facts' does not make for a comfortable customer experience. Their management should review this strategy to fit people in impossible transfer flights under false advertisements. These actions cannot go unnoticed to the general public. read more

I've been flying this route on regular basis since 3 years and finally I got pissed off - no chance to wash your hands at toilets, the aircraft condition showing it was built in 60's (or 50's?) - see attached photos. At the same time, Austrian take full benefit of star alliance mafia and charges you the price of flight to New York (this one in competitive environment). With over 100 flights a year with over 15 airlines, Austrian is definitively the last one to recommend. It's rather strongly recommended to AVOID at all costs :( :( :( read more

First time using Austrian Airlines & it was flawless through, and through! They surprisingly gave us food on the flight which was only 3.5 hours which was a surprise, usually only nuts, or a light snack or drink are provided. Nice surprise indeed! Austrian airlines counter at the Vienna airport & the Larnaca Airport were both particularly helpful, and even when we had a few issues, and seat concerns, they fixed them within minutes! One of the best experiences with airlines I've ever had! I would recommend them through & through! read more

Austrian Airlines canceled a flight and refused to pay a compensation. Instead I got a nervy boilerplate. So I tried to get the compensation with the help of attorneys, specialized for this kind of cases. Finally they paid accordant with the European law. Anyway, the Austrian Airlines Crew is "First Class". read more

Got off my flight June 2nd 2016 from Geneva, Switzerland to Vienna, Austria. Arrived about 12:15pm or so. I witnessed the Vienna baggage handlers (lazy goons) who were servicing my flight carelessly throw EVERY single piece of luggage - Very unprofessional. I will avoid this airport and Austrian Airlines in the future. When I arrive at my destination, I will see how much baggage and contents destruction there is. read more

First time with Austrian Airlines and it will definitely be my last. My flight was Venice to Dubrovnik with a layover in Vienna. Their customer service is a joke they all just have scripted answers and redirect you to fill out forms on the website. It's like talking to a robot. I've called numerous times without any success. You request for a supervisor and they say there is none available no matter when you call. I held for an hour today. My partner and I were on a week long trip across Europe and I was planning to propose to them in Dubronvik, but then Austrian Airlines have "delayed" our luggage when we had landed and most likely lost the luggage. My proposal and trip has now been ruined as my partner had to return to Seattle for their portion of the trip for work. While I had to spend a full day of my remaining vacation spending extra money on getting new clothes toiletries because I'm going to be here for four more weeks across European countries. Which I'm told they're going to only reimburse 50% of clothes and 100% of toiletries but it's probably going to be a Great Hastle to get out of them considering everything else lately. I don't even want to imagine if they lose the luggage itself and the expensive ring permantely as well. They're going to have a lawsuit on their hands if that ends up the case. I'm never checking a bag again because of this and encourage no one else to ask well. This is gross negligence and they take no accountability or action. Even when I did check in my baggage I had issues as well. I tried to buy online for 30 per bag and the website kept giving an error which I showed the error and charges to the check in at the airport and she still did not honor the price and made us pay 50.00 per bag to then lose said bags and destroy a proposal and vacation. Now I'm spending half my time on vacation, stressed out, trying to do everything I can to at least have my bags found and sent home and there is ZERO assistance by Austrian. Never fly with them and I would definitely suggest never checking your baggage! read more

Flight of unfortunate events, Long delay, Lost baggage, Unfair compensation, disappointing... My wife and I booked a connecting flight from Zurich to Vienna and lastly to Marrakech, we were supposed to reach Marrakech at 1pm. However, due to a technical issue with the plane as per the pilot, we were delayed for more than an hour causing us to miss our connecting flight from Austria to Marrakech. When we reached Vienna and approached the Austrian airlines service center, we were told by the staff that the only way for us to get to Marrakech is to fly from Vienna to Brussels and from Brussels to Casablanca and from Casablanca to Marrakech which we did as that was the only option given to us. We only arrived at Marrakech close to 11pm which is more than 9 hours of delay... we then waited to collect our baggage but unfortunately it did not arrived at Marrakech and we were told by the representative of Austrian airlines in Marrakech that they are not able to locate our baggage in their system. We then asked if it is possible for them to notify us when they have found our baggage but the representative said that we have to call them everyday to check the whereabouts of our baggage and that it is not their responsibility to notify us. We then wrote in to Austrian airlines feedback team to ask about what are the things that we are able to claim due to the lost of baggage and all they said was to send them our receipts and they will review. Their feedback team response time is really slow and things are worst when you are under such a difficult situation during part of your trip. This was their reply when we asked them what we are able to claim due to the lost of baggage, " We will get back to you as soon as possible. Due to the extraordinary high volume of incoming requests we do need longer to answer you. We thank you for your understanding." We wasted almost 2 days of our holiday due to the delay and the time spent to travel to get our essentials such as toiletries and new clothing which we did not need to buy if not for the lost of baggage. After our trip, we were offered 100% of expenses for cosmetic products and 50% for clothes due to the lost luggage. Please take note that they will neither send your lost baggage to your hotel once they have found it nor will they reimburse for the cost of your transport to collect your baggage from the airport and back to the hotel. We were then told that the technical issue with the plane was due to reason beyond their control and therefore the Airlines will not be compensating us for the delay caused and the worst part was when I asked the staff of the feedback management team if she could provide me with the email of her supervisor as I was unsatisfied with what she had offered. The staff the replied this in an email, "In case you feel that service provided by Austrian should be considered as a breach and as the one that does not apply within the law, you reserve the right to protect your position using any legal provisions available at your disposal." Which in my opinion meant that passengers are not able to have the contact of their supervisor and the only way is to go through a lawyer to seek a fair compensation. I hope the management could provide a proper answer to what exactly happened to the aircraft I was flying on that day, instead of just insisting that it was not their problem and leaving it as it is and for us as a passenger to just accept it without them providing us with the full details. read more

**IAD - VIE** **Economy Class** Reviewing my first flight with Austrian Airlines for our honeymoon. Flew on miles this time and to be honest, I was a little anxious because, well first I'd never heard of Tyrolean Airlines - then someone educated me about it a bit and then realized it was Austrian. The boarding process at Dulles was early and they were quick to get people in their seats and ready to take off. THAT is how I operate. I appreciate promptness and I appreciate getting people on board because there are SOME passengers that are bound to hold things up (the ones that put their jackets in the overhead bins instead of waiting till bigger suitcases and briefcases are all put up). Anyways, my hubby and I were seated and considering that it was an Economy flight I was dreading it but it wasn't too bad. This was the first time I packed light and I had plenty of space. The plane was relatively new and comfortable. Flight attendants friendly and of course laughed/congratulated me for trying to communicate in German. The flight was smooth, the food was okay, nothing to rave about it's airline food, and the AVOD was fantastic. I watched some shows that I've been meaning to watch for a while and I was all caught up. The free wine helped put me right on asleep. We arrived in Vienna early and seeing as I had a connection to Innsbruck with a connection time of 65 minutes I was hoping we would. If you get me there on time to where I can make my flight - we are cool. **VIE - INN** **Economy** On the way to Innsbruck, they were a little slower at boarding folks but I was more relaxed since it was the final leg of the flight. Once we boarded I noticed those cushions are real thin BUT there was plenty of leg room. The flight was on its way before I knew it because I was dead tired. Breakfast was served and a drink. That's perfect. Back to sleep I went. The first thing that woke me up with the thud of the wheels hitting the pavement. We were a happy couple **VIE - CDG** Same situation as before. Prompt and ON TIME. So, getting in and out of CDG can be interesting to say the least but we got there in plenty of time (early) and we received all of our luggage. Flight was smooth and we don't have anything to complain about on Austrian Airlines leaving from IAD. Smooth, 4 stars, and ON TIME. read more

(Flew Austrian in Nov 2013) This was our first time flying Austrian Airlines. The service was good and staff was attentive. The flights were on-time and very comfortable (RT: Chicago - Vienna - New Delhi). The food selection was amazing (vegetarian meal) and they kept us well fed throughout the journey. We enjoyed it thoroughly and would definitely use Austrian Airlines again! read more
Flew Austrian on a flight within the continent. Overall a satisfactory experience. Plane was clean. Staff was very friendly. Snack and drink were served on the plane. Bonus points for the flight attendant giving my boy a cloth Austrian airlines book that he still plays with after we have gotten back to U.S. I would fly again. read more

I took their direct flight Vienna- Los Angeles. I had my dog with me and unfortunately he had to travel in the cargo section of the plane. Austrian Airlines took such an amazing care of my pup! My pup was the last one to be put into the plane and first one to be taken out of it. They made sure he had AC on and on the room temperature, as well as the light turned on so he could see his surroundings. My pup arrived to Los Angeles safe and happy! So happy I trusted them with my dog. read more

Even one star is too much for them, One of the worst airlines, avoid it if you can, Cheap Airline, small old plane(more than 20 years old) with no entertainment at all, broken luggage during flight, they did nothing to replace the luggage, I had 30" Samsonite luggage broken during flight, in Veina they offered me to take little 17 " or 19" no name luggage instead, I had stop over in Vienna for a night, had to hang around in Vienna with a luggage with a broken wheel, at the end they said they were sorry! is not comparable with any other european airlines. My advise: Pay little more and take a better airline. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT PASSENGERS. Worst experience I ever had. Nightmare, with them you just have to be happy to arrive alive! read more

The worst airline ever! Ok, where to start.The first wen you call customers service to upgrade your flight.On web page is written upgrade available, 74 h before the flight, call center customers service said 36h before flight reality is 24h before the flight.Even then you can not do it the only way is to do it at the airport. Never book extra legroom seat! Doesn't exist.Row 19 I paid from Miami -Vienna I was sitting squizzed between the business class wall. Customer service, so unpolite they heng up me twice.And every call they use the different name to introduce them self. Never again. I have flown them twice.Frankfurt to Salzburg on a round trip.Great people who go the extra mile.Pretty much on time.Very clean planes, Even on short flights under 50 minutes they provide a snack at appropriate times of the day.The U.S. Airlines could learn a trick or two from this proud local company. read more
Had the pleasure of flying with them twice and both flights were great. The planes I were on are smaller regional type "Airbus" style seating with 2 X 2 seating front to back. Despite that the seating was comfortable and they offered a full beverage service with a complimentary "sweet or salty" snack. Both flights were on time and posted the fastest baggage claim I have ever experienced. They are also a United partner which is great for my miles. If you need a regional flight in Europe I would highly recommend them. Enjoy! read more

Expensive, inflexible and poor customer service. For economy light/basic, you cannot change your ticket not even for a fee. They do charge you $60 for checked luggage, and your carry on is limited to 8kg. Customer service cannot even provide the boarding time for your flight, which is not on your ticket. They are reluctant to even refunding airport fees, because they don't care. There are so many bigger, better and overall cheaper airlines out there. There's literally nothing to justify flying with Austrian. read more
Worst international airlines I've been on. Careful of their checked bag price gimmick. Not only do you have to pay for every international checked bag, but the advertised €20 only actually works if you precheck your bag online. Sadly, if you try to check in online with an checked bag, you'd receive an error directing you to check in on site, where they'll promptly change you about €50 for your bag, up to 23kg. Try to talk this out with the human working the desk, and she'll promptly show you she's not a person, but a robotic drill sergeant whose more skilled at scolding you for requesting something as barbaric and thinking beyond her computers flowchart. Just pay the extra €50 and fly a better class airline. read more

I'd like to start off by saying that these Austrians are worse with their security than the TSA at LAX. From LAX, I flew to Ukraine with a cream, not a liquid which was confiscated in Austria on my flight to Russia, and half a bottle of face cleaner, less than 200ml also confiscated. In addition, they began to wipe me for bomb residue everywhere, my waistline, my phone, my bag, my clothes etc. No one else had any issues. I assume this was because I was clearly American and they felt like they had to give me a hard time. One of the worst airline experiences, even worse than American Airlines, and will never fly Austrian again. Would rather have a longer layover in another country than a flight on one of their planes. read more
So far this has been the worst experience I've had with an airlines. A simple flight from Tuscany to Vienna and they lose 3 bags. They took off the bags to supposedly rebalance the weight, along with about those of 10 other passengers, and never told anyone. We waited at baggage claim for an hour before heading to lost luggage. That's when they told us they don't know where it went it from Florence or if it even left. No record? No documentation? Really? How professional is that? Than they said we will email or call you when it is ready. Here is some toothpaste and toiletries..have a good night. Next day we were told, after calling them, that it was in Florence and it would be here later today. No show nor a call to follow up. Called and got the story that they still don't know what is going on and it is another department. They will call us or we can email. Very poor service with little accountability or desire to truly assist when you call. Even when I asked if he could dial the other dept he said he couldn't and he was off at 8 so they will call us. Really!? Get insurance before using this airline. This is not the professionalism or competence I would expect from an Austrian company. read more

Horrible airline. I spent nearly $1,000 USD on a one way flight from Israel to Vienna. The gal at the check in counter was unbelievably rude to me because I attempted to check in for a flight earlier then the allotted time frame. How was I to know since there was no signage? I recommended a sign as a way to help for future situations like this and she glared at me and waved me off. No mention of where I could sit in the meantime (as I'd never flown this airline or spent enough time in the airport to be familiar with the layout). She neither suggested that I wouldn't need to wait in line for a second time once the check in was open. Once on the flight, I arrived at my seat to find an open blanket there. All the other seats had blankets still in the plastic wrapping, but in my seat was a used one. Gross! Later, when breakfast was being served, the flight attendant tried to give me the standard breakfast. I mentioned I had requested a vegan meal and not surprisingly, there was no record of it (though I later confirmed with my travel agent that she had in fact notified them about my request). The attendant just told me maybe I could get two cups of juice from the drink cart. Steer clear of this horrible company where customer service is an illusion. read more

This will be a lengthy post. I have no idea whether anyone will find it interesting. For those who read it in its entirety, I'd be interested in your views. In January 2024, we purchased roundtrip air tickets on Austrian Airlines (AA) from Dulles Airport outside DC to Vienna, Austria. We were supposed to fly to Vienna on April 29, 2024. The day before our flight, I received an email from AA announcing that our flight had been cancelled and AA would make alternative arrangements for us. I called AA quickly to make those arrangements. I made a new reservation for us on the same flight for the following day. I didn't change our return flight in October. AA allows international passengers to check in two days before their flights. So, about 40 hours before our October return flight, I tried to check in. I tried numerous times but kept getting an error message. Our reservation appeared on my AA web account and on my AA App but I couldn't check in either on my laptop or on the AA App. I called AA's customer service at least three times during the two days before our return flight. They informed me that AA was having technical difficulties with its computer systems and that we should arrive early to the Vienna airport to check in there. On the date of our return flight, we arrived at the Vienna airport about two hours and 40 minutes before our flight. We tried to check in at the self-service kiosk and an AA representative offered to help us. With her assistance, we tried to check in three times, all without success. She escorted us to the baggage service counter where she told us another representative would be able to help us. The woman at the baggage counter was able to find our reservation but not our tickets. She made some calls but was unsuccessful. After about fifteen minutes, she directed us to the AA ticket counter. We spent the next 70 minutes or so at the ticket counter working with three AA agents, one of whom was the manager. The first woman also said she found our reservation but not our tickets. She said she couldn't give us our boarding passes without our tickets. Her first solution was for us to purchase one-way tickets to Washington DC. I told her that was ridiculous; that we had already paid for roundtrip tickets and would not pay for more tickets. I scoured my credit card statements and I found the AA refunds in my June statement. However, I never received an email from AA notifying me of a refund for a roundtrip to a slightly less expensive one-way trip. And, because AA had downgraded us from premium economy to regular economy from our cancelled to our rebooked flight in April, I thought any refund was to compensate for that downgrade. The manager of the ticket office was the only AA representative who actually listened to me. She agreed that it made no sense for our allegedly cancelled reservation to remain on my AA web account and on my AA App. She had added that we had done nothing wrong. The manager told us that this was the only time in her 23 years at AA that this had happened to any passengers. She told us she would figure out how to fix it. It took her another 20 minutes or so but she finally called us over to collect our return flight tickets to DC. She said she was unable to seat us together, but she'd call ahead to the gate agent to see if she could do that. We finally checked our luggage and walked hurriedly across the airport to security, border control, the customs VAT refund office, and our gate. When we arrived at the gate, passengers were already boarding our flight. The gate agent told us she would likely be able to seat us together and she was able to do that. The flight was completely full. All in all, our return trip was stressful. There was an hour or so when we thought we wouldn't be allowed to board. My husband and I traveled with our 6-month-old daughter from Texas to Austria this past September, and while our baby was an absolute angel, Austrian Airlines made this trip a nightmare. We had to pay to reinstate those tickets, and we also lost the money we spent upgrading to extra-legroom seats. Our return flight ended up in cramped seats with zero legroom, despite having paid for the upgrade. And as if that wasn't enough, when we finally arrived back in Texas, our brand new $120 suitcase was completely destroyed -- split wide open and literally wrapped in rope by the airline to hold it together. I even have video proof of them wrapping it. Throughout all of this, customer service was dismissive and offered absolutely no assistance, compensation, or even an apology. I strongly recommend avoiding Austrian Airlines. Their flight schedules are far too tight to realistically make connections -- especially for families -- and their customer service is completely unhelpful when their own operational failures cause problems. My seat number was k6 and the seat has no cushion whatsoever, I had to stack pillows and blanket to prevent back pain Most incompetent company I've had to deal with. Called someone in Detroit to get information about the plane and flight, he gives me another number to call I believe it was in Chicago. I call that number, another person tells me we don't handle this, you have to call another number. Called that number, that person gave me the original Detroit number. I called Detroit back, another person answers and gives me the information I was asking to begin with. Not done yet. I finally check in and get on the plane, plane was gorgeous and flight attendants for most part were very hard working. Half the people on this flight were idiots, loud, arrogant, dirty and bathrooms even after a couple hours in flight were dirty, urine on the floor, clogged up sinks. Absolutely disgusting!!!! Like a fourth world country on a top of the line plane. I will never ever fly Unitedagain!!!! Would rather pay twice as much and get to Amman in 3 days then fly this airline.
