Fiaker goulash with Tyrolean dumpling. $14.25
Wendy P.

The Austrian man serving us in the Austrian Canadian Cultural Centre is the friendliest man I know! Well, besides me anyway. Forewarning, if you take offense to stuffed animal heads lining the wall, you may want to avoid the lounge. Chandeliers were made out of antlers. I have no idea if they were real or not, but it certainly set the tone for a carnivorous kind of space! If you're in the restaurant bit, you've got your choices of some vegetarian options, like a vegetarian quesadilla with ground tofu, cheese spatzle, vegetarian schnitzel and ravioli florentine. Or entrees include a variety of seafoods and steak and other meat dishes. We, however, were in the lounge. The evening menu in the lounge is where it's at! Schnitzel, wurst, goulash, liver dumpling soup (if you don't like liver, you won't like the liver dumpling soup. Trust me). I opted for the Fiaker Goulash with Tyrolean dumpling for $13.95. Don't ask me exactly what was in it. I don't know. All I know is a plate filled with gravy, some kind of sausage and other meat all mixed in with a potato-y scoop on the side that I assume was the dumpling showed up in front of me. And it was delicious. Is it wrong that I licked my bowl? You won't be hungry by the end, but you will want dessert! I promise you will. The sacher torte is good, but the Kaiserschmarrn (royal pancakes) are so where it's at. Imagine freshly made fluffy pancakes all crumbled up into a delicious hot mess with strawberry syrup to spread all over them. *drool*. That's the lounge. There's also a 300 seater banquet hall complete with dance floor in the same building. Really well kept (and no animal heads on the walls that I could see). It would make a great facility for just about any event!

Our family had a lovely horse drawn sleigh ride experience in Alberta here near Kananaskis outside…read morethe Banff area. The ride is about 30 minutes but went by quickly - we were given two blankets each one to sit on to stay warm and a second to cover us up. You can for easily 4 adults across in a row (maybe 6 rows?) - very charming and peaceful ride into the snowy woods! When we returned we had hot coffee and hot chocolates waiting for us! Definitely a must for any families or couples!

They assigned us to our horses and gave us instructions on how to direct our horses and hold the reigns. I'm a first time horse rider and was nervous, but once we started I got more comfortable and enjoyed it! The trail was a little muddy and goes up and down hills but it's amazing to see what these horses can do. The views were breathtaking and the weather was perfect. Chloe, our leader on the ride, was great. I appreciated that she made sure to have us stop for photos. I would definitely come back. Your butt might be sore afterwards :)

We went to Flores and Pine for a meal with another couple that I did not know very well. As a…read moreresult I did not want to be "that guy" and raise an issue at the restaurant and even if we were on our own, I likely still don't raise the issue but just simply not return to the restaurant. We dine out a lot so this was not a case of not having comparables. Service was very pleasant and attentive. 3 out of 4 meals were fine. All salmon based dishes that were enjoyed. The fourth was the Alberta Lamb Top Sirloin. I wish I would have taken a picture of the meal. The price was $62 for the entree which I find is in line with mid to higher end restaurants in Calgary and expected. What was surprising was that the entree consisted of two pieces of lamb that each would be slightly above the size of a golf ball. I actually cut it into small pieces just so that it would last longer. There were a couple of slices of potatoes and a small amount of seasonal vegetables. In my head I was saying, "seriously" or "that's it". I would say that since Covid occurred, prices at restaurants have risen about 40% higher and given that we still dine out quite a bit, I have been accustomed to this new pricing but I simply would not return to Flores and Pine given the complete lack of value. It is a shame because the room and ambience was nice and this restaurant had been on our list to try since it has opened. I don't believe I have ever written a review of a restaurant and I have certainly have had worse meals at a restaurant but these were likely at a pub or chain restaurant where I have few expectations. Anyway, as mentioned the other 3 in our party enjoyed their meals and it was only I that had an issue.

Disappointing. The appetizers arrived before the wine was even opened. The fries were luke warm…read moreand only 2 slices of bread for 3 people. My guests order sirloin and bison. They were very pleased with their meals. I ordered the Icelandic Fish which was cod. Very small piece on a bed of Luke warm shredded fennel and onion. 2 patties of something that had been grilled but were cold. The plate was also cold so everything was a disappointment. The dessert was a small tablespoon of fresh fruit on the whipped egg white wasn't even close to a serving. At $18, it was not value for money. The wines were good, but we were refilling our own glasses, which was poor service for a meal at a rop restaurant. When one pays $500 for a meal for 3 people, one expects top line. This was not.
