We stopped by for some caffeination while out and about west of Calgary. While the idea of having…read moresome wine with our lunch initially appealed we decided to play it safe (as we were driving home shortly thereafter) and get a latte and some pie. This place looks like it does good business, frequented by locals and the occasional drive through visitor. The decor is quite clean, and modern. The inside had dimmed lighting, but bright walls and fixtures, so it was quite cheery. Your orders are taken at a cafe style counter by the door before you sit down. Outside there is an enclosed area on the covered boardwalk which makes for a nice place to sit and eat. It is tight, but not unreasonable. We had latte's and pie, which seemed like good coffee break/road trip food, and it was. The latte's were good, served in a good sized go cup. The pie was good as well, decent sized servings, so forget your calorie counters at the door. We asked if the pies were made at the location and they aren't as they only have a small kitchen, which makes sense. But it appears that even the sandwich meals (which were at $11 price with a soup or salad) were made using your regular grocery store brand provisions (we were able to see the prep area from the counter). We were hoping for some local bakery goods, but it appears to not be the case. All in all the location was good, enjoyable and comfortable - though nothing to write home about. Make sure you get there before the local ladies guild all order their individual lunches, and enjoy the seating out on the boardwalk, as this was probably the most pleasurable part of the experience.

We stopped in at the Canadian Brewhouse with a pretty large group while in town and had a great…read moreexperience. The place has exactly the atmosphere you'd expect from a Canadian sports pub. Hockey and soccer were playing on the big screens throughout the restaurant, the room was lively without feeling overwhelming, and there was plenty of space for our group. One of the fun touches was the hockey stick décor. I kept things on the lighter side and ordered the steak bites with a side salad and balsamic dressing to avoid the extra carbs. The steak bites were tender and flavorful, and the salad was fresh with plenty of vegetables. We also shared an order of fried pickles that disappeared quickly. They were crispy, hot, and delicious. The tzatziki sauce was a great touch to make them pop. Everyone else ordered something different, including burgers, poutine, fish and chips, and a Caesar salad. There wasn't a single complaint. The portions looked generous and everyone seemed happy with their meal. I had a few bites of the burger (without the bun) and really enjoyed their flavor. Fries were good too (I stole a few, no carbs if I didn't order them right?) What really stood out was the service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and incredibly fast, especially considering the size of our group. She checked in often, kept drinks topped off, and made sure everything arrived correctly without ever making us feel rushed. If you're looking for a casual place to watch a game, grab a beer, and feed a group without any hassle, this is an easy recommendation. I'd definitely stop in again.

We went to the Brewhouse during a team tournament because they were offering two free slices of…read morepizza for players. In addition to the promo slices, I ordered three kids' meals--one for the player and one each for his sister and brother. The kids' meal is advertised at $7.99, which includes one main, one pop, and one dessert. However, when the bill arrived, there was an extra $3.99 charge for a pop. When I questioned this, the server told me that because the kids' meal was for a player who already received the free pizza, the drink was no longer included. This policy was never explained beforehand. I didn't ask for a free drink--I ordered a kids' meal as advertised. The free pizza slices are very small and not enough as a meal, which is why I ordered the kids' meal in the first place. With the added charge, the kids' meal became $11.98, which is no longer a kids' meal price and is not what was advertised. If there is a policy that changes what is included in a kids' meal when a promotion is involved, it should be clearly communicated before ordering. This experience felt misleading and left a very negative impression.
