My son attended this school his kindergarten year 2016-2017 and did great! No problems at all. 1st grade, however, was a different story. He started having problems focusing, following directions, and finishing his work. He was being sent home early (sometimes within 30 mins of being dropped off in the morning) multiple times a week because according to the Ms. Weinman, the principal, "We run a school. Not a daycare." At the advice of his teacher we took him to his Dr. to see what could be going on and after having his teacher and I fill out Vanderbilt Assessments (an assessment tool that reviews possible symptoms of ADHD and other conditions), his Dr. diagnosed him with ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder. We thought having a diagnosis would help us start the process of getting him help or accommodations through the school such as an IEP or tailored behavior plan. Boy were we wrong. Even after multiple meetings with the principle and assistant principle it was clear they were going to keep doing everything they could to keep from having to work with him, while also making us jump through hoops. We tried to establish an IEP and as the previous reviewer also stated it took MULTIPLE meetings to even get the ball rolling. The principle was fairly rude and condescending at every meeting. Basically stating every time we saw her that she didn't have time to deal with any of this or our son. We finally got the date set for his IEP assessment and the school has up to 60 days to schedule the assessment. They scheduled it for EXACTLY 60 days out. Then a week or 2 later they sent paperwork home saying that they were revoking his open enrollment status and we had 2 weeks to find another school for him. We lived practically across the street from the Village Meadows but it wasn't technically his "home school" because of zoning so we had enrolled him there through DVUSD open enrollment. After that the assistant principal called me daily to ask if I'd enrolled him in his home school yet or found another non-DVUSD school for him. Because they had revoked his DVUSD open enrollment our only options were to enroll him in his home school per zoning of Constitution Elementary or choose a school in a different district than DVUSD. We ended up enrolling him in Constitution Elementary and it's turned out to be the best decision we could have made. He is thriving and doing amazingly minus a few hiccups when he first started halfway through 1st grade. He is also excited and looks forward to school every day now vs. crying and begging to stay home while he was at Village Meadows. The teachers at Constitution all work with him and we had a behavior plan established almost immediately when he started. The principal there, Ms. Leyva said their goal is to do whatever is necessary to keep students in the classroom and learning and that's exactly what they've done. My son is now in 3rd grade and still doing great. He is even in gifted classes because he tested above his age group in reading and math. This school (Constitution) and these teachers and administrators took the time to work with us and figure out a plan that worked for him. Something apparently Village Meadows can't do. It turns out he is extremely intelligent and was getting bored too quickly with the regular classwork which was part of the reason he was getting into trouble by not doing his work and being distracting. So they found a way to keep challenging him and he's been doing great ever since. We also have great communication with his teachers and principal at this school. The funny thing is we were in the process of moving when he was kicked out of Village Meadows and our current address would legally make Village Meadows his new home school but there is no way I would ever send him or my other son back to that place. They clearly lack the skills, competence, and patience (as Ms. Weinman stated multiple times), to work with kids that are even the littlest bit challenging.

This is an excellent school run by excellent people, Perry Mason isn't just a kick-butt television…read moreattorney but he's also one heck of a principal. They also used to have the best school musicals year after year because Mrs. Dukeshier weren't to be missed. Her choral offerings are something to see. They offer a comprehensive 7th and 8th grade education, have a robust athletics program, and activities for children who use their minds as well! If you have a child who is junior high school aged and you don't hate them this is a good place to send them to school.

Each class lasts 30 school days and meets only Monday through Friday. They are accredited and teach according to the Arizona State and National Educational Standards. I have seen many students who were unsuccessful at a traditional high school succeed at Deer Valley Academy! My nephew was one who had lots of family issues and kept dropping out of school. DVA took him in, evaluated his courses from the seven high schools he attended and was able to enroll him, teach him, and graduate him in a semester. Painted Rock Academy is a standing violation ready to be shut down. I am absolutely baffled how I…read moremade it through 5 years at this school all the way up to the last year I COULD attend. I started here as a student in 5th grade up to 8th grade, starting 6th grade I have had horrible experiences with not only the administration here but many of the teachers. Almost every year here I have been called up to the office for 'inconveniences' they believe were me just because of my 'record'. Keep in mind, I have NEVER received a detention here or at any of the schools I have ever been at, they have accused me of flooding the school, fighting, talking sexually, even have been written up for these claims, but never have I done such and their only proof was random rumors spread about me, I was purposely targeted from Mrs. Goshow & Mrs. Nash (AS Principal and Principal) due to the fact I brought up major concerns to them every year that were necessary to address. Speaking of that, if you are a parent who does not fund the school, participate in PROP, or has/has had an A+ student, you will not be listened too. My parents have been belittled and dismissed on major safety concerns regarding teachers and the facility. When it comes to the facility, you do not expect a K-8 school to be perfectly clean, but Painted Rock is disgustingly filthy; the pipes in the bathrooms leak and flood, there has been a broken window that has yet to be fixed as of the time I left (May 22nd), the floors are cracking and have stains all over them, theres black mold on the ceiling vents in the bathrooms and in office hallway, there is a hole in one of the walls, and the AC constantly gave out and leaked all over our desks from the tiles. I addressed all these problems to admin, but I was yelled at; told I was wrong, and called directly to my face I am 'sensitive' and a 'liar'. When it comes to SPED classes, they do not 'teach' your child to be better, they do not teach them how to comprehend a lesson, they automatically pass a SPED student, and it encourages low effort. No child in the SPED classes are equally cared about, some are more cared about than others, some are ignored, some are spoiled by the teachers. I know this as I had several friends from those classes approach me. There are some great teachers, but many yell, bully, and discourage. They are there simply to come and go, they do not care about their students, do nott get me wrong, they have some pretty good teachers though. (FYI: Only 80% of the teachers are qualified.)

This morning, Callie accidentally left her laptop at home, so I brought it to the school around 9:00 AM. When I dropped it off at the front desk, the receptionist Mellisa mentioned that she "might be able to get it to her." I assumed she was joking, so I left it with her. Later in the day, I found out that Callie never received her laptop. When I returned to the front desk, I expressed that if it wasn't going to be delivered to her, I would have preferred to take it back with me. The receptionist mentioned that she thought it was for homework, but in fact, Callie needed it for classwork during her last period today. I also want to note that this is only the second time Callie has forgotten her laptop, yet the receptionist claimed it had happened three or four times, which is simply not true. I was disappointed to hear an inaccurate statement about my daughter's track record, especially when it could impact how she is perceived. I wanted to make you aware of this situation because it caused Callie to miss an important class activity. I understand everyone is busy, but I hope we can ensure that items critical to a student's classwork are delivered in a timely manner in the future and that communication remains accurate and respectful. On April 2nd 2026, and the 9th 2026 my daughter was assaulted by another girl at this school. Each…read moreattack was by a separate individual. The second attack was so severe that my daughter was transported to the hospital via ambulance. She had her head smashed against the concrete that resulted in a concussion by this girl, and multiple bruises to her face and shoulders. The school, after the first attack did nothing to prevent the second attack. When I asked them what precautions will be taken if my daughter returned to their school after this second attack, I was told she could use the nurses bathroom since the first attack took place in the women's bathroom, and that she could eat lunch in the office or somewhere that they designated since the second attack took place while she was at lunch in the courtyard. The girl who more severely assaulted my daughter on the second attack was withdrawn from the school. I found out that apparently this girl had been expelled from another school for fighting and that she'd already been in several fights that year at Moon valley and was on a contract for fighting so they knew she was volatile and dangerous and still did nothing to take any type of precautions with other people's students. They just allowed her to roam free..... The hospital visit alone cost me $1,400, I haven't seen the bill yet for the ambulance ride, nor have I seen the bill yet for the specialist who is supposed to be her follow-up for the concussion. Drugs and alcohol are also rampant in this school, they are bought and sold by students. When I had photo evidence of these individuals selling and buying drugs, and using alcohol on campus I brought it to the attention of the assistant principal and the campus officer and they did nothing with that. Also told the campus officer when my daughter was assaulted the second time that I wanted to file charges and I'm pretty sure I was given a bogus report number because when I went back to look up the status of my daughter's case the report number he gave me kept coming back could not be found. There's going to be a lawsuit on their hands if this isn't taken seriously and handled it a befitting manager and taken seriously with implementating some sort of safeguard so my daughter can finish out the rest of her year and then transfer her out..... Worst school any of my four children have attended and I would not recommend it to anybody if they value their children's safety. And when I tell you it's worse than Glendale School District I mean it. I regret moving so that she had to attend this district/school.

Moon Valley High School has been good to our kids. We moved here two years ago from a midwest…read morestate. Moon Valley High School Theatre under the leadership of Ms. Razor and Mr. Peters has welcomed my children. The AP classes have also been great in imparting excellent strategies. Our one criticism is that the 6 day block does not allow our kids to participate in multiple special areas like band, choir, dance, culinary and theatre. Our family was used to an 8 period block. Having to choose one or two special interests has been heart-rending for our students. Overall, we are thankful for Moon Valley.
