TLDR Summary: Amazing, over-the-top service. Ethical, affordable, honest, thorough. About four years ago, I purchased a 2006 VW Beetle convertible with under 75K miles for a great price. I thought I was lucky. Today I feel like, as the song goes, if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all. We have put thousands in repairs into this car. Two months ago, we had it completely gone over with a mechanic in Albuquerque (where we live). All codes cleared, ran well...unless it got hot and I was in stop and go traffic. Then the ghost in the machine appeared causing random stalling and surging. After discussions with a VW tech and YouTube University research, we came to understand that it was likely the vapor canister vent valve causing a vapor lock. We bought the part from VW, but waited (stupidly) to install it until I got back from a road trip to Colorado for work. Bad move. Long story short(er), I had to buy another one in Raton, on the road, having left the original at home. Next I tried to find someone to install it in Raton. No go, and - on the contrary - the mechanics in Raton tried to upsell me on some repairs I didn't need, berated me for researching and buying the part, and would not install it. I fueled up, let the car cool down for 1/2 hour, and pushed through to Colorado Springs. As I pulled in to my friend's the overheated car was stalling again. I knew I needed to get this part installed. A friend in Manitou Springs connected me to Auto Tech Plaza, having used them before and finding them efficient, reliable and affordable. They were everything she said and more. After agreeing to install my non-OEM (but accurate) part, even explaining why and how it differed from the one on my kitchen table over 400 miles away, they took my cell number and told me they would call when it was ready. Less than an hour later, I got the call. Unfortunately, it was still throwing a "check engine" light. Sean and the team neither tried to take advantage of me, nor let me go without getting to the bottom of the issue. Unfortunately, Christine (as I am now calling my car) had decided to become non-communicative - not responding to any of their three sensors. Sean came out and provided updates at every turn. It felt similar to when my kid was in the hospital for a broken arm. Ultimately, the tech made calls to his VW expert friends, and dug deeper under the hood to find some nearly melted-through communication lines (probably not the technical term). They repaired them, and were able to pull the codes, which indicated that Christine was not a fan of off-brand parts (picky jerk). They assured me she was road-worthy, and offered a check up if I was concerned on my way back to 'Burque Monday or Tuesday...and did not charge me an additional cent on top of the initial repair! Truly above and beyond. Huge gratitude. Christine drove me back up to Manitou Springs in rush hour traffic in 99 degree heat without issue. I am so much more comfortable and confident in my safety thanks to Auto Tech Plaza's Team. Good luck for once! read more

Pretty brutal last experience at Auto Tech Plaza on Platte. Originally found this store on Groupon for an oil change and stuck with them the last 2-3 years despite living on other end of town because the staff I consistently dealt with were always very kind, welcoming, and easy to work with even if wait times were longer. Used my extended parts warranty earlier this year to replace oil filter house without issue so when my struts started to leak I called to make an appt due to the seamless process I had just had. Noted on the phone call last week while making appt that I was going to be using the same exact extended warranty, had already called them to confirm struts were covered, and understood that not everything was guaranteed to be covered on work order. Within 5-10 minutes they texted over estimate for me to approve so they could order parts and I immediately approved. Confirmed my appt the day before and showed up the next day for my appt. Realizing I forgot the warranty paperwork in the car the second I walked in the front door, I ran back out to get it. As soon as I hand it to the front desk- it was immediate annoyance and frustration from the staff that they had no clue I was using my extended warranty for this repair and they would have wrote the estimate different had they known. Of course I'm baffled because that was exactly what I told the person that scheduled my appt over the phone and I even remember them saying my extended warranty company was easy to work with and this should be the same process as before. After asking how this lack of communication was my fault if there were no internal notes attached in their system, it just continued to go downhill from there with the specific employee throwing all my warranty paper on the ground by his feet and telling me to pick it up. From a logical point of view- the person who scheduled my appt over the phone the week prior is actually where the breakdown in communication happened because there were no internal appt notes at all about my repair which is why it was written incorrectly by the co-worker. Honestly this last (and obviously final) experience left me more confused/disappointed than mad because it truly made zero sense why they weren't believing me or realizing that as the customer what would I get out of this interaction by lying? Or at the very least from a management viewpoint , consider in the moment of customer interaction that this could very well be an internal team communication issue. Probably not something you should be taking out on the loyal customer who came into the interaction with zero issues assuming this would be an easy repair appt vs. how I felt leaving after being hassled, blamed, and gaslit with my personal property being chucked on the ground for me to pick up at this feet. read more

These guys should change the name to auto scam plaza... I paid $190 for diagnostics here and they quoted me almost $2400 for an ecu replacement claiming they had to remove the entire dash to be able to get to the part. After talking to some other mechanics I quickly realized that auto tech plaza either is trying to scam me or they are just slow. Turned out it was an issue with the chip in my key fob and cost me only $130 to fix. Their diagnostic was not even accurate! Don't let these people play with your money and go somewhere else. You will save yourself a whole lot of time and money. read more

Had them do an oil change on my car. When it was ready they had applied so much air freshener inside it smelled like a bottle of cheap perfume was spilled in my car. The odor was overpowering and offensive. I drove my car for about an hour and the odor permeated my hair, skin and clothes - there must have been an enormous and unbelievable amount of the air freshener put in my car. After parking in my garage, the whole garage smelled of the scent. I called and asked where they applied the scent and I was told it was to the cabin air filter. I removed the cabin air filter and it was clearly not the main source of the scent. I called again and was then told t was applied to the front floor mats. I washed the floor mats and the odor still permeated my car. I now have a fan blowing inside my car to hopefully clear the scent. Shawn at the store was of no help. Zach called me and offered to replace the cabin air filter and said in 5 to 7 days he hoped the odor would dissipate. NOT A SOLUTION! BUYER BEWARE! read more

First off, Accurate Japanese Auto is taking over the repairs to my timing belt and water pump kit since you've made it clear that I'm past warranty and won't help. Accurate Japanese Auto says this is one of the worst installs they've seen. No less than 10 bolts were missing on top of the timing belt cover. I know I'm getting jack sh*t from you, so I'm writing this to save future customers the pain in the ass I'm suffering from these hacks. Do not go here. George where we don't seem to agree here or over email is that your team did look at it again. I didn't know the coolant leak was related to your work. I know f*ck all about cars. I took it to Accurate Japanese Auto to have it looked at because I thought it was a new issue. They pointed to the area you worked on and said there bolts and the timing bolt cover missing and suggested I check if that work was warrantied. I took it back to Raven and your team and they told me nothing was wrong. I even texted pictures Accurate Japense Auto took to Raven and he insisted bolts were there and the cover was in place. The fact that there is no record of my second visit indicates they were covering their asses. I was never charged for the pressure test they said they did, or the inspection of the timing belt cover. I don't care if I was or wasn't in warranty at this point - the work was blatantly done wrong the first time and I was lied to the second time. I know I'm not getting anything from you guys, but stop gaslighting me that you didn't look at it again. This was a huge miss from your team, wildly unethical, and I pray it doesn't happen to anyone else. Original Review: When you go to a mechanic, you trust what they say. The front staff here are either liars, or incompetent. I came here two years ago to get a water pump kit and timing belt replaced on my car. They did the work, no issues, but I started getting a massive coolant leak. I was living on the road, and didn't have time to address it before I got back to the Springs. When I was back September 2023, I took it to a mechanic a friend referred me too (Accurate Japanese Auto - go here instead of these liars). They told me the leak was likely coming from the water pump. They mentioned the timing belt cover was also missing. I took this information back to Auto Tech Plaza. They gaslit me and told me they pressure tested my system, and there was no leak (despite the massive green stain on my driveway.) They also insisted the cover was in place. I didn't have the time, money or knowledge to countermand them. I let it be. Fast forward to now, the coolant leak is still going on, and I took it back to Accurate Japanese who took it apart and confirmed the leak was coming from a poor quality water pump kit and that there was still no cover on the timing belt. Without a cover, the anitfreeze from the faulty kit corroded my timing belt. I have to have it all replaced again. Auto Tech Plaza - you owe me $1200 and an apology. read more

FRAUD!! I went here in November for an oil change because I found a Groupon for one. Well ever since then my car has had many issues. I left and 2 months later ended up needing 1200 dollars worth of work done because of a oil housing leak. They also said that my ac filter and blower motor needed replaced. I declined the service and they ended up throwing the dirty filter back in there causing leaves to shoot into the vents. The next day I noticed a very LOUD noice every time I turned on my heater. I dealt with it for awhile because I was pregnant at the time and couldn't reach the area to replace it. I finally buy a new blower motor and pop out the old one to find PEANUTS stuffed into it causing the loud noises. They wanted to charge me 300 bucks to fix this when I know they caused the problem although I can't prove it. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THESE THIEVES!!! read more

Also, this AutoTechPlaza doesn't really honor Groupons. They say they will, but then make up extra charges so that you're not really saving any money at all. I was told by the guy at the front desk that yes, it's part of the service. I know for a fact that my tires were not rotated as I have a brand new tire on my front passenger tire. My water pump went out on my 2004 Dodge cummins and it was a very quick turn around. The people seem very nice, but once I drove the truck home on the freeway my truck was beginning to overheat. Soo not too sure if the technicians here worth going too. I was stuck on the side of the freeway for over three hours waiting for their tow truck. Little did they know two months prior, my car was in an accident on that side everything was replaced by Chevy n I had the receipts to prove it. This is the second time I've gone here. The first time was with a groupon for an oil change. First of all, I love that I was treated with respect even though I had a groupon. Some people aren't as respectful to their customers when they see the customers have a coupon. Second, I came in today 45 minutes before closing and they squeezed me in. I had a massive hole in my tire and it had been snowing all day. The roads were icey, and I wanted to fix my car ASAP when I noticed the problem. I was referred to auto tech plaza by the body shop that did some work on my subaru. The body shop paid for it, I just needed to take it to ATP to get a 4 wheel alignment done, and my vehicle was finished. At the first appointment there, I waited for over 3 hours while they "assessed" my car. I finally walked around back to check on it and my car was sitting in the same spot, unmoved as it had arrived in while their techs rebuilt the bathroom in the shop. I walked inside and told them I couldn't wait want longer. The desk guy walked back in the shop and came back out later to inform me that they didn't have the parts to fix my vehicle, and rescheduled. I should have known then not to go back, but I did because the body shop was paying. After they finally "fixed" my alignment, I left and immediately felt that the issue was not fixed at all. I still felt the wobble in the rear end. But I didn't want to take it back because of the unprofessional nature of my experience. I haven't driven the vehicle very far because of the issue and what little I have driven, wears my brand new tires prematurely. I do not recommend this business at all. I feel that I was taken advantage of because I wasn't the one paying for their service. The unprofessional attitude of the workers, the lack of any work, and having to go back multiple times to get a service done that they didn't do, left me not wanting to go back. They took money for a service that was never performed. Others have had a good experience, but mine was awful, and showed me why people do not trust mechanics. I'm always skeptical of auto repair shops. I don't really have any reason to be, but I am. I contacted a different Auto Tech based on a referral, but ended up at this due to time constraints. I can't possibly accurately depict how much care and effort they put into fixing my car. What appeared to be a simple fix turned out to be something much more difficult. They spent countless hours testing and resting the car in an attempt to pinpoint the additional problem. In the end, I made the decision to not fix the additional problem and the charge for the original issue was same as the initial estimate despite the significant amount of time they spent diagnosing another leak. In the end, I felt like they really cared about getting my car fixed accurately and didn't want to send me out without making sure every stone was turned. And throughout the process, they kept me informed of what was transpiring and showed me everything they saw. What they didn't know was that I didn't have the slightest clue what they were talking about and really had to take them at their word. read more

Rather than take my $210 for the transmission flush I requested as a precaution, they instead checked over the concern, including a test drive and concluded that they could not replicate the problem I described and didn't want to CREATE a problem by flushing fluids. Instead, they referred me to their specialist, whom I will contact if I have further problems. They fully investigated the condition of my old car, a '99 Ford Taurus SHO, and found a few things for the 'watch list,' but nothing needing immediate attention. I feel like I'm in great hands with these mechanics, and will readily recommend them to family and friends nearby. VERY professional and attentive care. You won't be sorry in their care!! read more

This is the worst auto mechanic I've ever been to they literally killed my Toyota 4Runner and told me it would be ok to drive after I got it fixed and spent way to much of my hard earned money at this shop. I don't do too many reviews but definitely had to go out of my way to let you guys know how awesome these guys are. The family and myself have been coming to Mike and Brett for a few years now and haven't been disappointed yet. Had another great experience today as expected. In the past I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee that had some major PCM issues and went to a few shops to try to figure it out. Nobody could diagnose the problem but had no problem charging the inspection fee LOL finally got to these guys and not only did they find the problem quite quickly but they fixed it for a reasonable price and the Jeep ran great. When in today had them inspect two Jeeps from a few sellers and once again had a great experience. If you want a good reliable shop, you found it. Thanks guys! read more

I always go to them for Oil changes and they're generally pretty good. But on this particular visit things just didn't seem right, there was work I needEd done and they did more work then they should've or repairs that didn't solve the problem my car is now dead and I was told after I did about $2800 total worth of work on my vehicle that I now need to get in with dodge to fix the electrical part of my ignition and my car problems would be solved even though they told me that the last repairs that I got done for $1500 would solve all of my problems. When I called to tell them my truck was dead after the repairs that's when they finally told me the electrical part of the ignition would solve my problems. They also put it in the notes after I called them because the guy that I talked to said he didn't see anything in the notes about someone telling me I needed to go to Dodge for that specific problem. UPDATE 04/10/2014: The shop emailed me a survey and I provided feedback on the below issue. The shop manager (Jeff) called me the following day and wanted to talk about the situation. Beware of serious price gouging at this place. If they perceive you to have a gullible nature they will try to take advantage of that. They thought they were doing that with me when they gave me an estimate of $2,000.00 to fix the water pump of my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. I still have the copy of that estimate as proof because this was so outrageous. I ended up taking my car to a mechanic in Security who fixed it for $200. If I had not gone online myself to check prices and to see they were trying to take advantage of me. read more

The people are really nice, but I'm not sure if I have bad luck with them or what but my last two oil changes have gone wrong. First time they didn't replace the O ring on the oil filter for some reason so my car started to smoke as oil dripped out. Today I got my oil changed by them again because I don't hold a grudge first time around. Picked up my car and less than a mile down the road I start to smell burning oil. Apparently the filter area hadn't been cleaned, so the filter literally fell off. Went back to get it fixed so fingers crossed that it's good now. The people are really nice and Mike is a good manager, but I just can't bring myself to go back there after the second botched oil change in a row. Sorry guys. read more

These guys are straight shooters and very pleasant to work with. I first visited the Auto Tech Plaza at 1548 South 21st street in Colorado Springs. Unfortunately, they were about to close and were not open during the weekend. The manager at that location, Mike S., referred me to a sister location on E. Platte in Colorado Springs. Before leaving this first location, Mike asked if he could look under the hood for a second. I happily agreed and Mike took a look under the hood in the hope that he might find a loose wire or some other indicator that could solve the problem for me. He absolutely did not have to do that, but he did and he did it with a good heart and sincerity. That is very rare in the auto repair business in my experience. I arrived at the E. Platte location on the following morning, a Saturday, and the manager, Mike Z. was expecting me. I was about 1,100 miles away from home and my F250 V-10 was acting up, stalling for some unknown reason. The Check Engine light came on, but the truck kept running. Clearly, I couldn't risk an 1,100 mile trip with an unknown problem causing the truck to stall. Needless to say, I was basically at their mercy and I was naturally concerned about the final outcome. My concerns were normal, but were based on years of experience dealing with auto repair shops in California. They ran several diagnostics and examined the OBD info I printed up from a visit to the Autozone on Garden of the Gods road. They determined that the coil on cylinder #7 was bad and needed to be replaced. Diagnostics, a new coil, and an onboard computer update had me back on the road in a matter of a couple hours. Shortly after leaving, I experienced another stall. I called the shop, told them the problem, and said I was on my way back. When I arrived, the manager had already done a good deal of research to try to determine what was going on. Ultimately, they determined the coil on cylinder #5 was also bad. Fortunately, they previously ordered up 4 new coils for my truck so they had one on hand. They replaced the coil and charged me for just the cost of the coil, no labor. Mike Z. explained "we should have caught that the first time." If this is their normal way of doing business, (and I believe it is) they just earned a loyal customer any time I need help when visiting the Springs. Mike S. was actually at the E. Platte location (off duty) when I arrived. He spent a solid 20 minutes talking to me about personal things completely unrelated to the work on my truck. I found him to be genuine, kind, and a very good person. Actually, I found that to be true for all the employees I interacted with and again, that is very rare. So, if you are ever in the Colorado Springs area and need help with an automotive repair, I highly recommend either of these two service centers. Their professionalism, compassion, and genuine caring attitudes elevate them to the very top of my list and I'm confident you will have a very similar experience.
