What a rip-off! I brought my car in for repair of 2 oxygen sensors. I was told that I would need to have a diagnostic check first. This would cost about $200 with tax, after which I received a laundry list of items they felt would be needed to be fixed - wipers, cabin filter, alignment, coolant change, valve cover gasket, brake fluid flush, trans service amounting to $1975. Plus, of course, $943 for the 2 sensors which I wanted to have replaced. These 2 oxygen sensors by Bosch, on-line, cost under $100 each. Wipers had been replaced not even a month ago. This casts doubt on the whole list they "suggested" needed to be fixed. Please be careful when bringing your car in here. He will try to upsell you a laundry list of what he wants to do to your car. As a first time customer, I scheduled an appointment for an oil change and chose this business out of convenience because they offered online appointments and had good reviews. I noted I just needed an oil change on the online intake form as well as on the drop off envelope when I brought my car in after hours. At first I was impressed with the quick scheduling (next day service) and text updates/reminders this morning during my appointment slot. I was then sent an inspection report of all their findings that needed future or immediate attention as well as everything that was in good working order (I didn't ask for this, just an oil change). I called to ask for a quote on everything they were recommending since some of the report findings were concerning, which I received quickly. I assumed the oil change I requested was complete by this point and it was just a matter of looking at all the other issues and making a decision on next steps. I asked that they include the oil change service on the quote for my visibility and they did. When I started reviewing the quote I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the oil change at the top of the estimate. How in the world does it cost $166 for an oil change?! I've NEVER paid this amount for a single service in the 12+ years I've owned this car, not even at a dealership. I drive a 2009 Toyota Yaris with less than 100K miles, not an SUV, truck, or luxury car... a Yaris. At most I've paid $75 and even that was on the high end. Once I saw the cost of the oil change and paid, I decided I will never return to Automotive Magic or recommend them to anyone. The cost of the service was outrageous. I believe there are some things listed on their report that need attention, but I'll never give any more money to this business after feeling completely ripped off. I know a few garages up the road from me that are reputable, reasonably priced, and have done great work in the past on my car, they just don't have the online convenience which I can deal with from now on if price gouging is the alternative. read more

I ordered wheels and tires from the web, and they get delivered to the shop, and Automotive Magic installed them as well- balanced and aligned. Pros: flexible and personal service, great WiFi bandwith (able to hook up to my work VPN and work with large files); Cons: a bit of delay in the work (work was supposed to be not much more than an hour. i was there for 4 hours), kinda pricey for a diagnostic service. read more

Automotive Magic is accurately named - they truly work magic. I've had my previous car serviced here until I traded it in on a replacement car. The diagnostic report done on the replacement provided the ammunition I needed to support a complaint against the dealership. I am now returning the car for a full refund and the next car I purchase will be brought to Automotive Magic for servicing. I brought my car in because the Check Engine light was on. I told them that two auto stores had put the dashboard monitor on it, and they both said it was a gas cap problem. They then ran a test on the entire fuel system and charged me $90, telling me IT WAS MY GAS CAP! I also asked them to fix my drivers side mirror, broken off in an accident. They ordered both a new mirror and a new gas cap. By the time they were done, they had charged me with over $450.00! They charged me $36.50 to install the gas cap. They charged me $90.00 to test the fuel system to discover exactly what I had told them was discovered by the 2 auto stores. EVERY TIME I BRING MY CAR TO THEM, I GET CHARGED A FORTUNE FOR REPAIRS. I will never use them again, and I hope no one else does either. $450 TO REPAIR A MIRROR AND INSTALL A GAS CAP IS JUST A RIP OFF! NEVER AGAIN! read more

I recently moved to NJ and needed to get my '03 Honda CRV "safe and legal" since it had service lights on, it would not pass emissions testing. Not knowing the area, I took my car to the guys at Automotive Magic in Kenvil because they are close to where I live. My CRV is well used - I commonly went 10-15k miles between oil changes, and it has over 200,000 miles, the transmission fluid had not been changed in 140k miles, and (frankly) my family has been hard on it. The guys at Automotive Magic listened to what I needed, I gave them my budget, and after they did a thorough inspection of my car, they gave me a list of items that would make my care legal, make it safe to drive, and then the things that would make it better to drive (they have a scale of 1-5 with regards to importance that a service gets done). They knew going into it how much I had to spend ($2,000) - in most cases this would be tipping my hand. They could have easily kept within that amount, neglected to tell me of certain items until I had already sunk several thousand into repairs, but instead they were honest and gave me a list of issues (totaling $7,000), knowing that it meant that I would go buy a newer car instead of fixing my old one. Even though it meant that they would not get my immediate service, they have earned a loyal customer. I have NEVER been loyal to a mechanic, and in the rest of the country NJ does not exactly has a reputation for honesty and friendliness, but the guys at Automotive Magic proved to me that not every experience in NJ has to be a nightmare. Obviously I wish my car could have been fixed for cheaper, but they gave me a break on labor for compound problems which required changing multiple things in the same location. I was also greeted with a smile, not a scowl; I was approached several times to make sure that I was happy and that I was taken care of; and just today, I received a hand-written thank you note in the mail for choosing their shop. My final bill was under three hundred dollars, for an oil-change, degreasing the engine, code check, examining the codes from the on-board computer to determine which codes were being triggered incorrectly so that I wouldn't be fixing something which didn't require it, and a check to determine why my AC did not work, why my doors did not unlock remotely, and to look at the tumbler in my door to see if a locksmith would have to fix it or if they could. I could not be happier with my experience. They also have a pretty good referral program, in my opinion. I will recommend them to anyone I know who needs service.
