Paid 800 for valve gaskets installed a few months ago. I started to get miss fires so i changed the plugs. Found a ton of oil in the wells. I pulled the valve covers and they missed the gaskets around the plugs. Nice guys but im done. The blue is the new i installed and black are the old. read more

Had to go back several times. The issue was never fixed, though we were charged, a lot, four figures. Went to Romeo's. He fixed it very quickly for a fraction of the price. Turns out it wasn't a big deal. We're done with Denville Automotive. Maybe Hank should retire. We noticed that Romeo's has posted signs that all of his technicians are certified. That seems like a very good policy when running this kind of business. Never again for Denville Automotive. Thanks Romeo's! read more

I was quoted over the phone by a man that it was 350.00, I said. Ok go ahead and fix the car he said ok, I'll order the parts. I got a call later that afternoon that the car was ready, When I arrived, I went to the counter to pay. The lady asked my name and pulled my invoice and said 434.47 Then she said I can read the invoice for you, serpentine belt 54.99, belt tensioner 239.99, labor plus tax, which comes to 434.47, labor was 122.00 plus tax. I would have preferred an upfront quote! a bit of a double edged sword because I pulled off the highway in an emergency, had no gas and my check engine light was on and my car was overheating when rolled into Denville automotive since I had work done on my car in the past. Hank was very responsive and asked me if I could leave it till the next day. He even put in a light bulb last minute. So I guess I'll have to take it all will a grain of salt and reconfirm these quotes more than once when I take it in to a shop! read more

Used them for several years because they were close by. Every time I got service done, they would always lose my keys. The last visit, the owner, Hank, tried telling me he already gave the keys back to me and he did not believe me when I said he didn't. Shocker, he found them 10 mins later. My final straw was when the owner ripped off a large chunk of my window tint and did not even tell me. When I nicely confronted him, he became nasty and told me how I should not even have tints. He didn't even care that he just damaged a customers property at all. There are way too many mechanics in denville, I will never waste my time at this place again. read more

(I've sung their praises everywhere else LOL) He has cared for my cars over the years as his own. I literally trust him with my life. I stopped by this business because my tire was making a weird noise. The gentlemen that helped me were kind and considerate. It turns out my drivers side tire wasn't tightened properly after some work that I had done! They brought out an impact drill and tightened it for me! Free of charge! I brought my jeep into Denville automotive in September for a new starter. I was told after the starter was replaced that my dip stick had broke off in my engine and the car was not salvageable Hank suggested I sell it for parts for 500. Said it was not worth his time or money to fix the engine. Hank was nice enough to let me keep my Jeep there for a couple months so I could either get the cash for a new engine or sell it for parts. When I went back two weeks later to get my title my car was wide Open. My title and registration we're gone. I must have left title in my car. I took my plates off my car and told hank to send me an invoice. (Attached )and I would get the car in a couple weeks. Fast forward to four weeks ago and I called Hank to tell him I would get my car and pay my bill. he said John the car is not here. I thought you took your car back and screwed me out of $476. I said no Hank. I didn't take my car. I went to a Denville police and file-stolen car report. police are investigating this. I took my plates and locked my car because they did not keep it secured Its been 3 weeks now and I have not heard anything. Evedently there is no video of who took my car. It had no plates. Supposedly the car did not run but yet my car is missing. And no one can tell me a thing. Hank never even called me or the police when it was stolen. I am hoping Denville auto will make me whole this has been a huge nightmare. I just moved back to the area that I grew up in and Hank was very highly recommended imagine if you brought your car into be fixed and they tell you it was stolen but there was no attempt to call me or the police until a month after when I called Hank. I am hoping Hank will make this right. Im sure he is bonded and insured so I'm not sure why I'm not being compensated for my car. i don't know who stole my car but either does Hank or the police because his video camera works but my car was parked where it could not be seen on video. I don't want to take the low road and really didn't want to write this review but im hopeful that Hank will step up and make things right. It was not his fault it was broken into while it was there and stolen but there has been no sense of urgenvy or even an apology as to what I'm going through. if Hank is the man every one says he is he will pay me the Valu of my car and I will tell everyone that he is a stand up guy and righted a terrible wrong. I would pay him for the starter but at this point I think he is frustrated. He should be in my shoes. i will even take half of the blue book Valu at this point. i have no hidden agenda. I had an absolute wonderful experience today and is one of the many wonderful experiences I have had with this business. Called yesterday to make an appointment today for my daughter's car as she is driving to Boston later today. I told them I needed an oil change and check the fluids etc....... I advised I needed the car by 10:3am and was advised to bring the car in at 8am. I come in at 8am this morning and Hank the owner was there and told me he would do his best. He was not the gentleman I spoke to yesterday. I was not feeling very confident when I left that the car would be ready as he had 3 people sitting there waiting for work to be done on their cars. Lo and behold I received a call at 10:30am that the car was ready. Doesn't sound like a big deal but I could tell that in no way was my car going to be ready at the designated time that has been told to me the day before. They kept up their end of the agreement and because of this I need to give them thanks. read more

I grew up nearby and when I moved away, I would always have Hank look my car over when I came back to visit my parents. Today my kids were in the area and had a problem with the car. I called Hank and he waited there for them and made sure everything taken care of. You don't get that kind of service just anywhere. After going to WAY too many mechanics who have lied to me about work that NEEDED to be done ("or else your transmission will be shot", "or your brakes will go out", "or you will be stuck on the side of the road", etc.) I found Denville Automotive! They were recommended a neighbor. They are trustworthy and kind, and so reasonable!! I stopped today to get a brake light fixed and they didn't even charge me. They will check your car out for no charge and then fix it with your permission ONLY IF NEEDED! I went to Midas recently and they told me I needed a bunch of work done or else bad things would happen to my car. It was a $1200 estimate. I went to DA and Hank told me I didn't need half of the things done. Can't give this place enough stars!! read more

We had the misfortune of hitting a pothole in the middle of the night on 287, 2.5hrs from home, while traveling with 3 small kids. Luckily, the tow truck driver brought our car to Denville Automotive. Hank and his crew put a new tire on the car, and kept in touch with us about when to come back for it. There was something wrong with a valve at first, so the new tire lost air. Hank stayed after hours to make sure it was fixed, and that we were able to get back on the road safely. Meanwhile, his wife recommended their favorite place to eat before we got back on the road, and they gave us their home number, instructing us to call if we had any problems! The next day, Hank called to make sure we made it home safely, and told us to give him a call if we're ever back in Denville, or if we ever need any car repair advice. If this is the type of customer service they give everyone, I have no idea how Hank and his family manage to juggle 3 shops, but can certainly see why they are so well trusted. I wish we lived closer, and could go to him for all of our automotive needs! Thanks again, Hank- we'll definitely stop by next time we drive through Denville! read more

This is an honest review of Denville Automotive, not just something for the hell of it. I had an accident up the street from here and was recommended to this shop due to me being out of town and out of time to pick and choose. So after reading a few reviews I believed to be in safe hands. I still feel that way because these guys, especially Hank, were very friendly and helped me out in every way possible. Not going to say anything about price because depending what you need done and the make and model of your car/truck it could be costly. I had a accident into a curb on an icy/snowy day and damaged a few parts and pieces on the driver side wheel and had to replace an axel/knuckle/brake cable/....parts. Due to me having an accident on that front driver wheel the gentleman at this establishment failed to even take a look at the rim on the front driver side. Once I received my car back and drove it home I had a little wobble to the car at about 60 mph. I gave Hank a call and he agreed to have me stop in and take a look at the wheel. After removing the wheel, to his surprise but not mine, the rim was bent and misshaped from the accident. With a smile on my face I look in the wheel well and notice there was a sway bar link missing (stabilizer bar link) and ask Hank about that. He kind of chuckled and said you'll need that as well. NOW, I had to get a new/used steel rim and a sway bar link. It's about safety at this point. I pick up my 10 month old daily and a little nervousness comes over me because of this issue being over looked. Due to the price paid and friendliness of this establishment I figured they'd be a little more on top of their game. I'm not going to knock Denville automotive completely though. I'm just going to give anyone a heads up that you may need to make sure the t's are crossed and i's are dotted. I used them about a year ago per a reference. Just haven't gotten around to entering this review. Had a couple cars get the oil changed and minor work done there. I stopped going there when I had my brakes done and they charge me a ridiculous amount of $760. And to top it all off the brakes we're not done correctly I called to tell Hank about it he said bring it back in I never did get around to it I was just so disgusted that I just never went back for any of my cars. I am a woman that went there alone thinking I could trust these people and I just felt like I was taken advantage of. read more

My daughter and I were driving from Connecticut to Ohio in her 2010 Volvo V-50. En route, the car started vibrating and making a terrible noise. I pulled over and checked to see whether we had a flat. We did not. So we used Google Maps to find the nearest car mechanic, and it led us to Hank and Denville Automotive. What a blessing! Hank is one of the nicest and kindest people I have ever met, and his office assistant is also very personable and helpful. Hank diagnosed the problem, fixed it (the right front tire had loose lug nuts - or whatever they're called!), didn't charge us anything, and we were soon back on the road.
