I came to AU Co as the leather surface on my steering wheel airbag had gotten scratched in a few places. Not a huge issue but you can't 'unsee' it every time you get in the car. I could not believe that this type of repair could be done (I thought I would need the airbag reupholstered if it was even possible to do that). Top was leaking into the trunk and I needed a new gully system. Since it cost a reasonable amount more and my top was wearing, I replaced it also. Great decision. Ron could not have been more engaged and interested in replacing the top on my 2009 Audi convertible. His technicians did an excellent job on the top and also repaired the motor/pump that puts the top up and down. Without me knowing about, they found that drains were plugged and my carpets were wet. They took the time to dry out the carpet and clean out the drains. Ron's price for the top and motor job was very reasonable and MUCH less than what Audi would have charged. In fact, Audi told me I needed a complete pump and motor assemble but Ron determined it was just the motor. He could have told me what Audi said and I would have accepted that. In closing, I highly recommend Ron and his excellent craftsmen. read more

Recently had a headliner installed in an older vehicle that has a green interior. As outdated as the color is, Ron and his staff still went the extra mile to try to locate any leftover material that could be used. When we weren't successful, he recommended alternatives and overall I was satisfied with the choice. The end result looked better than I could have imagined and I am confident will last the life of the car. Before finding this shop I had received quotes from 5 other shops throughout Westchester and 1 in Queens. Automotive Upholstery and Convertible Tops just completed repairing the cabrio top on my Fiat 500. The repair seems to have been done correctly. The top operates quietly and smooth. Other than that, however, I have to say that this was the most unprofessional automotive repair experience that I have had in nearly 50 years of driving. My roof broke, about 1/2 opened, on July 2nd. Based on my mechanic's referral, I called Automotive Upholstery and was told I could bring the car in on the following Monday (July 6th). After an initial, unsuccessful attempt by them, to get the top closed I left the car. It took 2 weeks, multiple phones, and an offer by me to retrieve the car, but they finally got the top closed. I picked up the car on July 17th and scheduled an appointment for August 11th. At the time, I asked for a cost estimate, which was denied, but I was told that if the entire mechanism needed replacing it could cost as much as $4000. On August 10th, the owner Ron, called and postponed the appointment for 2 weeks. I, finally, brought the car in on August 24th. The ballpark repair time I was given was 2 weeks. I was still not given a cost estimate. Two weeks later, Ron had the parts and asked if he could work on the car at his house because he was backlogged. I said yes. Still no estimate. All told, not including the original 2 weeks that they had the car, the car was with them for over six weeks. I was continually made to feel like I, and my car, were a nuisance. After 5 weeks, Ron accused me of pestering him despite the fact that only called him about once a week. It cost just over $4000. This is remarkably close to the original number, since they didn't need to replace everything. They had to replace 7 parts. They billed me for 35 hours of labor at $70 per hour (which is cheap). They also charged me 3% to use a credit card. Unfortunately I have no faith in the truth of these numbers. 35 hours spent is a lot of time for a skilled technician to spend on any repair. They charged me $1284 in parts. I can get those same part online from Mopar for $467.50. That's quite a markup over retail. read more

I was referred to Automotive Upholstery & Convertible Top Co by a local auto body shop in Northern Westchester to get my drivers seat & headrests repaired on my 2002 Tacoma. I was originally going to get them repaired in CA, but I waited to long, and didn't have time with my move across country. After getting sticker shock from a competitor here in NY vs CA, I was prepared. I pulled up to see many German cars (Porsche, Audi) and 50's American classics (Ford Thunderbird & Chevrolet Cadillac) among other recent models. Not only was the price realistic to what I was quoted in CA, but the seat & headrests were repaired by the next day & they look and feel brand new. The headliner on our 9 year old car was starting to come down. To redo it with Toyota parts would have been over $800. They suggested a few less expensive options. They showed us an example of the least expensive one on another car so we could determine if we would be happy with that solution. We decided to go with that option -- it cost $20. The car looks amazing, and they were able to do the job while we waited. Honest people. High quality workmanship. Very accommodating. Excellent job! They replaced the convertible top on my 91' Porsche. The price was reasonable and the service was great. They washed and vacuumed inside the car and I was able to pick the car up on Saturday without missing a day of work. Father and son operation, ask for Rob (son), great guy and knowledgeable. Frank (father) gave me all the instructions on how to care for and operate the top. They are obviously good at what they do the parking lot was full of cars waiting for new tops or reupholster. My car was done in 3 days and would have been done in 2 days had I called ahead. I do recommending calling ahead because they are a very busy shop. Great great job! read more

I had an unfortunate incident in which a dog tore up the whole back of one of the seats in my car, which is a lease. There was foam and canvas material everywhere and I was in a panic. I called a couple of auto body places to find someone to fix it and two different people recommended this place. When I called on the phone I spoke to Ron, who assured me that he would be able to fix the seat and make it look like new. He ordered the parts and when I came to drop the car off he had it fixed within a couple hours - as promised, the seat looked brand new and exactly matched the other seats in the car.
