BUYERS BEWARE!! Autos of Forney is one of the most unprofessional businesses I've ever purchased from, even for a used car dealership. I purchased a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee on 10/17 and from the beginning there was a constant string of problems that still have not been resolved. To be fair, I had several opportunities to save myself, but I really wanted the Jeep and couldn't find a similar one anywhere else except for Autos of Forney. I was having the Jeep delivered from Dallas to Austin, so I didn't get a chance to test drive it, but they assured me that it passed a pre-sale inspection and I actually know someone personally at the dealership who assured me that he personally drove the vehicle and everything looked great. The first red flag was when Autos of Forney sent me the wrong paperwork, which had completely different numbers than what we discussed on the phone. Additionally, I had elected to purchase an extended warranty, which was not included in the contract. If you do choose to purchase from Autos of Forney, make sure you read the contract VERY thoroughly. I informed Autos of Forney of the mistakes, and multiple staff members blamed the mistake on the finance manager, Maletta, citing that she had been hospitalized for multiple days due to an asthma attack and was unable to respond directly to my concerns. They assured me that Autos of Forney would send out the correct paperwork but after two weeks and several follow up calls they still had not completed the paperwork. After two weeks, in a last attempt to get the new contract, I told a sales rep that I was intending to purchase a car locally the upcoming weekend, and that seemed to get them motivated enough to get the paperwork out, which did have the warranty included. The sales price was $5000 more than advertised initially (from ~$28,000 to ~33,000), and I inquired about the change. The sales rep told me that the extra fees were for "reconditioning fees" and a 3-month bumper-to-bumper warranty from the dealership itself to ensure that any unnoticed mechanical issues would be covered after the purchase. However, when I spoke to the sales manager later, she informed me that Autos of Forney does not offer a 3-month warranty at all, and she seemed very surprised that I was ever told that. I never got an answer about the difference in price (see email thread). However, I really wanted the Jeep, and it was still within my price range, so it wasn't make or break for me.
When the car actually arrived, I was very excited and took the car for lap and was horrified to hear how the vehicle sounded. VERY loud like I was driving on a couple of old box mattresses. The sound is audible from the inside and outside and sounds like the car should not be driven at all. There is absolutely no way that the car could have been test driven without the noises being heard. Multiple loud sounds that appeared to be coming from the suspension on all sides of the car. Loud enough that it turns heads when I'm riding down the street. I still was not overly concerned because I had purchased the extended warranty to protect myself just in case something like that happened. I contacted the finance manager, and she suggested that I take the car to a local Jeep dealership to be diagnosed. The dealership informed me that the sound was coming from the sway bar system and indicated that it should have been noticed in any pre-sale inspection. However, he also informed me that the repair was not an emergency repair and sounded worse than it actually was. He then proceeded to inform me regarding a number of other repairs that were needed for the car and indicated that the most critical repair was actually a significant leak in the radiator which was lowering the internal pressure of the radiator and making it vulnerable to overheating and blowing the head gaskets. He recommended that I not drive the car, if possible, until the radiator had been repaired, due to this risk. He also reported that the motor mounts were slightly cracked and that the rear brakes were down to 1mm, a critically unsafe level, which might lead to a higher risk of brake failure, and had already led to significant rotor damage. He stated that all of these problems should have been easily noticed in any thorough inspection, which made me feel that it was not inspected at all by Autos of Forney. Also, my recent requests to see documentation of the inspection were completely ignored (see email thread). I was surprised there were so many repairs needed, especially the brakes. Also, I drove the car in the rain for the first time this morning and was late to work because the windshield wipers were dangerously ineffective, even in light rain, and I had to stop to get new windshield wipers and install them to get to work safely. The service technician stated that he would contact my warranty company and that he would expect everything to be covered except for the brakes because they were routine maintenance. read more
