An absolutely wonderful record shop, with a very wide range of genres, and with excellent organization. The prices are a little unpredictable, some things seemed way overpriced to me, yet other more unique and rare things seemed undervalued. So: lots of fun to look through, and some very high quality recordings, old, new, re-issues, and unique new vinyl. I only checked out classical and jazz, my loves, but the other sections seemed chock full and varied. Glad that stores like this still exist. read more

I was recently in Montreal so I made it a point to dig in nearly every record shop in town. Aux 33 Tours was pretty high on my list. The shop is located in a nice shopping and dining area of Mount Royal. The shop itself is very clean, well-lit, organized, easy to navigate. They had practically every genre with both new and used vinyl available. One of the biggest issues I had was the mixing of used and new records in the same bins. It just took longer too search through since I mainly was looking for used. Either way, I still walked away with some great stuff. Everything I looked at was in good shape. They had tons of new vinyl and reissues. Easily, the largest selection of new vinyl in Montreal. I also noticed tapes (fairly small) and CDs too. They also run a discogs account where some stuff on there may not be located on the main sales floor. The staff at the counter were friendly as well. I have now written reviews for many different record stores through the nyc/nj area and will now forever be spoiled by Aux 33. This store was big, roomy and with a huge variety of vinyl. Cons: -none! Pros: -A lot of records were on sale -Where a lot of record stores increase the prices on vinyls that are newly released, this store kept the prices normal -Prices overall were slightly lower then in the nyc area -All new vinyl is in their computer system so they can look up different albums and artists for you -Huge huge variety. Records I have never seen and thought I would have to special order for were in massive amounts at this store. My bf even found a huge selection of punk vinyl -Super friendly staff who were more then happy to help with any questions. If your in Montreal and like records this is a must visit. read more

In stores like these, I always wish I had more time. Unfortunately, I was only passing through Montreal, and had limited time. I pre-ordered a few records on their very good Discogs.com site, and picked them up from the store. The Discogs counter is located at the back. I don't think the inventory is the same as is in the store. The selection here is right up my alley. Lots of New Wave, Industrial, and modern rock. Great store with excellent well curated collection of used and new vinyl. The records I purchased were used Jazz Tete Montoliu to be specific. The plastic sleeve was taped shut, so I could not inspect the vinyl in the shop which I typically do. Anyway, I took the risk and was pleasantly surprised when I opened them!! The records are Near mint Flawless condition, and the price I would say was very fair. My only complaint was that the staff were not very friendly at all. I made several attempts at friendly convo only to be treated rather poorly. In the end I would go here for records because they have a great stock and that's about it. The Renaissance Librarie across the street has great records and cds for a great price and the staff are very friendly. Aux 33 Tours should have staff train over there. read more

Being that I've been living on a small island for the last 5 yrs, this place was a breath of fresh air! I just love record stores, it feels like you're in the move Empire Records or something! My favorite record shop in Montreal. I visit (at least) once a week... which borders on the obsessive side, but that's how great this shop is. The staff is extremely earnest and knowledgeable, the selection is unmatched, and the prices are pretty great. You can spend an hour or two here, flip through records (New and Used are all amazingly labelled and organized) Keep your fingers crossed in the "Used" bin (once in awhile, you'll find some long-lost treasure in there...) Sometimes my friends and I will just go in to LOOK at records. We won't buy (t'ill next time, we're on a budget yo!) but man, what a great store. Awesome selection especially for new vinyl, but crowded and mostly out of my poor student price range. Had more of a bright, businesslike Bullmoose feel, which I don't dig as much as way small, dusky used stores where you can talk to staff about music and dig around without feeling like you're in someone's way. Visiting Montreal, I read about this place and decided to check it out. A bit of a ways from the city centre, it is located in a decent area with a lot of different shops and places to eat. Let me say that this is the cleanest, brightest and most well organized used vinyl shop that I have ever entered. Everything is priced and packaged in plastic sleeves. Unfortunately for me, the classical selection was blah at best and also, being a digger, this nice shop is not for that. I spent about 10 minutes tops in here and left with nothing. read more

Generally quite a good record store, but the experience I just had with the owner has left me baffled. I bought a record that, when I got home with it, was just warped enough to dance my needle a bit, just enough that it skipped in certain spots. I returned it to, as it turns out, the owner, who asked what kind of record player I have. I told him and he said that he's not familiar with my player (it's a rare, but great player) and his advice was to add extra pressure to my cartridge to keep it from skipping. I was waiting for him to tell me to put a penny on my headshell. Then he went on to tell me that any record packaged in a gatefold cover is going to be warped. This is beyond bizarre. I don't know if he thought I was an idiot, new to vinyl, or what, but I'm just flabbergasted by this guy. The rest of our conversation was just him being condescending. He did, at least, agree to allow me to return the record. FFS I like the store for the store. Go when it's busy so you don't have to listen to the hipsters who work there talking about how much they hate whatever music it is that they're playing. And don't let the owner try to sell you some bs about how all vinyl in gatefold covers is warped or has a "slow curve." Why you would talk to someone like this is beyond me. read more

I'm not even a big fan of record shopping, but if you or someone you love is, this place is totally easy to spend some time (and money) in. They have a well-curated selection and it's easy to flip through. They even have really well placed stickers on each record so you can see what you're doing. I've been on a retro vinyl kick lately, and, at the moment, Aux 33 Tours is the store that's been doing the best job of satisfying my addiction. Huge selection of music, most of it vinyl, and it's well-organized, too. (I recently went into a record store that was organized by first names. The "B" bin contained records by The Beatles and The Buzzcocks alongside records by Bob Dylan and Bert Jansch. The rationale? "iTunes, man. That's what the kids are into!") Anyway, I'm not sure about the staff yet, they've been mostly stand-offish, but they're getting their hands on some choice records, and the collection spans everything from classic and modern rock, to psych, folk, soul, jazz, metal, and beyond. Great selection of Franco-prog, for instance. Lots of new releases on vinyl, too. Prices run the gamut--sometimes very fair, indeed, other times a little on the exorbitant side, but generally perfectly acceptable. read more

I found this store on a recent trip to Montreal and I must say that it was heaven for a vinyl junkie like myself! Their selection was amazing and I thought the prices were very good also. They have both new pressings and used selections. Their filing system made it easy to browse and I could spend days in a store like this! They also sent my purchases to me so I didn't have to take them with me in my luggage. If you are in the city and love vinyl, it is well worth the trip to check them out. They also have CD's but I didn't look at these because I was focused on the vinyl selection. The store is only 10 blocks from the Mount Royal metro station which is very convenient so enjoy! read more
