I was hungry. I was tired of walking. I needed a boulangerie. This place was in my sights. I walked in, and everything looked good. The girl behind the counter had patience while I looked at everything and read everything. I ended up ordering tomato and cheese pizza, spinach quiche, a chicken sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie, an apple donut, and a chocolate croissant. I thought it would last a day or two. The chicken sandwich was good, but the bread was tough. The cheese/tomato pizza had an interesting balance of flavors-- and too much bread. I ended up eating half of it, and trying to dip the rest of the bread in olive oil and vinegar. That didn't work. The chocolate chip cookie looked good, but tasted awful, very... not worth my calories. The apple donut proved good. The chocolate croissant was good, but if you've had other chocolate croissants at other pasteriees around here, it ranked bad (it needed more chocolate). What topped it off, and brought it down another star, were the reactions of the workers upon payment. I saw the girl tear off of another pastry and eat it while she was helping another customer. There was no one drop of alcohol, and most importantly, they didn't tell us in the very first place!!! Then they charged us 4 half bottle of water, for 22 euros, when we didn't order them at all. When we argued, they said " if you didn't drink them, we wouldn't have charged you". Never coming here again! I ordered one Coffee Macron, one Chocolate Eclair, one tiny Croissant, and two of their fruit drinks. The menu at the front where the bakery items has no items that cost more than 10 Euro; everything was pretty much 5 Euros or less including tax. Guess what my total charge was... 43 EUROS! WHAT A RIP OFF! Also, my bill was hand written and completely illegible, so I did not know what I was being charged for. Just joined the "got scammed" club. This place needs to be stopped from ripping tourists off. Only reason why we tried it was it was listed in Airbnb's guide of places to eat close by. We order an omelette and a croissant and couple of coffees. They bring 2 croissants, couple of bottles of evian (which we didn't order), slices of toast which we assumed was part of the omelette. boy, were we wrong. I tell the guy, we didn't order the water so he says fine. I get suspicious since the couple of local ladies next to us didn't get bottled water by default. When the check came, it was $30 just for omelette, croissant and coffees. the coffees (regular coffee, not espresso or cappuccino) were a ridiculous 5.90 euro each. The toast we assumed was included was 6.50 euro, for toast for god's sake! Croissant was cold so gf asked for it to be warmed but the guy takes it away thinking we didn't want it - which was a blessing since he charged for one. This place just adds items like bottled water (like at least 5 euro each), extra croissant (2.90 euro) when you want just one, toast when you didn't order it to pad the check to crazy levels. Sure, this is a pricey area but this is moving into scam/rip off territory. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Spend your money at more honest establishments! Just to confirm that nothing has changed, we had our most expensive breakfast of our trip at this restaurant in March 2013; and it should not have been. It was a 99 euro petit dejeuner for four. We went there our first morning in Paris while waiting for our hotel to be ready. Just as others have said they brought water that we didn't ask for and I can only imagine what I paid for our coffees. They didn't itemize the bill. I was shocked at the price, but as it was our first meal and we didn't have a feeling for what it should cost. Our next similar meal ran about $40 Euro. I wish I had checked Yelp. Appalled ! Dishonest Owners Please beware and avoid this restaurant. Their pastries and cakes looked appealing from the outside but please do not be tricked into dining in. Whatever you see on the tags on display costs at least 3 times more when you dine in. We ordered a toast and the "friendly" waitress asked if we preferred fries or salad to go with it so we chose fries. It turned out we were charged €5.80 for the fries on top of the €9.80 for the ham and cheese toast! And the small bottle of still water was €5.50! 2 mini croissants and 1 Madeleine at €14.80! Latte at €8.50! Total bill was €81 for 4 of us and we were barely full. I should have read reviews before I entered. We realised they were dodgy as soon as they said they didn't have tap water and then placed 2 bottles of mineral water in front of us when we'd specifically requested 1. This place does have some odd rules about prices being different when dining in vs. takeout.. However you have to factor in the fact that when you dine in you're paying for the service fees too. I've done take away here numerously since it's right by my hotel at the Westin. The chicken sandwich baguette was great along with the vanilla macaron. The macaron here was even better than Pierre Herme and Laduree in my opinion. If you do take away it's not a bad price point I spend about $14 euros vs 38 euros for dining in. In comparison to some of the other places I've been going to around Vendome area this was pretty good other than the Michelin recommended places which will really eat through your cash. read more

I can confirm what others have said here. We ordered the petit déjeuner, which seemed to include everything (coffee, OJ, toast, eggs). We were brought items we did not request (water, additional croissants), and charged for items that were supposed to be part of the breakfast (coffee, OJ, toast). The charge for the toast was €13! The total bill was €88.60 when it should have been less than €30. It's clear from the reviews on this site and others that this place specializes in ripping off tourists. We had such a wonderful, lovely time in Paris; we made the mistake of ending our trip in this swindling, deceptive shithole. Our bill initially came out to over 50 euros. They had charged 7.90 euros for one tiny madeleine. Good thing we caught that, but even when we caught the trick, it didn't help much. He ended up charging us 4.90 euros for every pastry we ordered, no matter how tiny each piece was. They pressure you to order as many baked goods and drinks as possible and then pressure you to sit in, so that they can charge an arm and a leg and a foot. No idea how anybody can possibly rate this higher than 1 star. If I could go negative I would. I ordered a small coke and a Croque Monsieur, which comes with a side salad. What I got was a large coke, a Croque Monsieur and the largest salad on the menu (which incidentally was still a small salad). The waiter made his own decision that the side salad that comes with it was too small for me and that I needed something bigger. What should have cost me about 12 euros came to 26 on the bill. I argued with the manager/owner - btw, two other American families had also argued with him while I was sitting there eating - and he defended that he brought everything I requested. Unfortunately, my friends and I found ourselves starving and stuck in the most expensive part of Paris. We thought we had found a nice little bakery to grab a sandwich to eat while we walked, but right as we ordered the lady asked if we wanted to stay and eat. We decided it wouldn't be a bad idea because it was a bit rainy outside - the first lady brushed us off to a waiter and they were not very welcoming or friendly. Upon being seated a waiter asked if we wanted water, and we asked for tap but he said only still or sparkling and proceeded to bring out glass bottles of still water without us really ordering them. Long story short, our bill went from 18 euros for 3 sandwiches to 40 euros for 3 sandwiches, 3 small bottles of waters, and sitting down for 5 minutes. When we tried to ask about the extra charge he rolled his eyes, pointed to a small hidden sign (in French) that was supposed to explain the eating in charge, and then continued talking on the phone. TWO THUMBS DOWN! Summary: It's a TRAP! This is a huge tourist trap, do yourself a favor and avoid it. This is one of those times that I'm absolutely kicking myself for not checking Yelp (or *cough* T-Advisor *cough*) beforehand. To start, I'll say the pastries are OK. We tried a variety of cakes, a cookie, some cheesecake looking thing, and a chocolate flan pastry. The cakes were alright, average for Paris standards. The cookie was forgettable, as was the cheesecake and chocolate flan pastry. For food alone, I'd say it's average/below average. Now the bill is where it killed me. First, we had asked for regular/tap water, along with a coffee and a glass of wine. The waiter said "yes", and then proceeded to bring out bottles of water, and had already opened the lids. We thought fine, we'll just drink it, even though we had asked or tap water to begin with. Then they bring out the bill: -8 euros for a single slice of cake (if you're willing to pay this much for a tiny slice of cake, please do youself a favour and head to Lauduree for macaroons and cake) -5 euros for single bottle of water!!!! I'm not talking big bottles either. 330 mL... -4 euros for coffee -8 euros for a glass of wine Plus, they added surcharges (taxes) which should never happen (it's always included in Paris). We argued but he just responded by mumbling something in French and walked away. Terrible service, average to below average food, ridiculous prices and mystery charges.... 5-star price at a 2-star eatery. There is an expectation of everything. When you're paying €31.10 for breakfast, it'd better be perfect, including the restaurant setting. I've been to Paris a number of times before. You can get a coffee around Opera for €2-3, and at the Cafe de la Paix in the Intercontinental Hotel for €12. There's absolutely nothing special with the look of this place that justifies the €8.5 price tag for a cafe au lait. I blame myself for not asking for the price before letting the waitress take my order, because again, who would have thought? I stayed at my hotel (Westin Vendome) the next morning for breakfast for €29. You get swanky setting with plush seats, grand buffet display, attentive waiters, and of course good food. Stopped in this place a couple of times for to-go sandwiches and a baguette since it was close to our hotel. Went back for dinner, expecting to pick up something similar. We were rushed to the back restaurant area and told to take a seat after selecting our items from the front display window. Once our croque monsieur and piece of pizza arrived, we were asked if we wanted salad. We agreed to a small salad to share and were brought two salads (iceburg lettuce drenched in olive oil). We also had water, which came in small, but opened bottles, despite wanting tap water. Then came the bill - 46 Euros!! Our 6 Euro sandwiches turned into 2 plats du jour (19 Euros) and our one small salad turned into 2 at 10 Euros each!. The water was 3.50 each AND the VAT was listed separately. We decided not to argue and to chalk it up to getting scammed in order to get out of there as quickly as possible. This place really leaves a sour taste in your mouth - do not patronize this place!! My family stayed in an apartment in the Madeleine neighborhood of Paris and visited this boulangerie every day for a week. It sells wonderful bread, pastries and desserts for takeout at a reasonable price. Don't be thrown off by the poor reviews for this place; those are mostly by people who ate in at the restaurant, which charges more for the same items that the takeout prices. I never sat down at the restaurant so don't know what the markup is, and it may very well be unreasonable. But if you buy items to go, you won't go wrong. I typically loaded up for the day with a baguette, loaf of bread (ciabatta, country, etc.), two croissants and some desserts (tartes, petits fours etc.) for around 15 euros. Everything I got was excellent. One of my favorite things about visiting Paris is eating fresh and various bakery items every day, and Aux Delices du Manon didn't disappoint. read more

This place looks like an innocent normal bakery but instead, it is a den of thieves. Normal prices are posted outside for the pastries but the moment you dine in, they at least quadruple in price. We got 2 cappuccinos and 3 pastries and were charged 50 euros. When we questioned the bill, the waiter suddenly realized he made a "mistake" and changed it to 4.90 euros per pastry instead of 7.90. The posted prices in the front of the store were 0.80 to 1.20 each. We tried arguing with the waiter and he said that dine in prices are always different. So then we demanded to see where in their dine in menu it stated that all pastries were the same price of 4.90. There were some pastries listed at different prices from 2 to 3 euros but the waiter said that wasn't right. He then said that it's not listed and that "he just knows the price is just 4.90 for all"... Stupid, incompetent son of a coyote!! In fact, this place is the worst of the worst. I can't believe I visited Paris for this horrible food experience. My husband and I visited for lunch and I was so disappointed. I ordered 5he steak medium and a dried out tough plate of overcooked steak was delivered to me. I did attempt to eat it and it taste as horrible as it appeared unappetizing. I did look at the table next to be who also ordered steak but was juicy and cut easily. I returned my order and I must say the server was gracious in understanding I would not be paying for that meal. What I really came for was the desert that looked absolutely divine in the desert Connor I select it then the tele dessert and also the salt rum cake to go because as I was told by the server the price to eat in is not the price to take out. The rum cake was dry, crumbily, and unflavorful this cost 6 euros but I still threw it away after a couple of bites it was so bad. Then on the last day I sat down with my luggage for a breakfast and the fast talking waiter treated us as suckers. €73 for breakfast that included toast for €6.50 that the waiter forced on us AFTER we ordered croissants and acted like it came with the omelette. Then quickly asked if we wanted water and left--returning with expensive bottled water when I would have preferred a carafe d'eau. Water was €11 for 2. Finally my husband had a €15 Bloody Mary that was just tomato juice and lemon with suspiciously little to no vodka. Prices charged were those on the menu, which are unnecessarily high, but the waiter was clearly taking us for a ride by tacking on whatever unnecessary crap he could. Our meal should have been about $35 Euro and it came to 80! They bring you water without asking and it cost us 7 euro. The side salad which he made seem like it was included was more then the main at 12 euro, and the cappuccino's came to 15 euro for 2. There was a young couple there before us that just wanted two sandwiches and the owner stole his glasses to make sure he paid the inflated costs and pushed him.
