    Affordable Decks & Additions

    Affordable Decks & Additions

    (12 reviews)

Hired Mike at Affordable Decks of Washington County to build us a deck and roof. He provided us…read morewith a CAD drawing of how the deck/roof would look. Nothing on the computer rendered 3D design states it is just an example not actual. It looked as we discussed. He said it would come off the current roof line like it was built with a house. He had been to our home many times for changes and samples and going over options and we were quite clear that we had ordered a new door from Pella that was the same height as our current door just the length of the entire wall basically, his response was oh that will be beautiful we did that at our house. I even informed him that Pella was able to install a door before him started the deck and he said he would want to get the deck going. His subcontractors come and tell me that I should choose a different railing... I ran it by Mike, and he said the railing I chose is a pain in the butt they don't want to do it. (i feel that is why it is not done right, they were annoyed they had to do it.) It is not even installed with the right parts, no drink rail clips or adapters to stabilizers. Frank the leader looked at the CAD drawing and plans and said that the roof of the deck needs to be lowered and that it wasn't right on the 3D design. I also informed Frank about the door, and he asked exactly how tall and wide it was and I told him the same height as this 1 but the entire length of the wall. I ran it by Mike, and he said he would be out the next day to discuss with us and Frank, so we are all on the same page. That never happened. Frank put the roof beams in, and I immediately sent pictures to Mike that they look too low. I think it is going to interfere with my door, he said he would be out the next day to take a look, he came and said it'll be fine. Sure, enough I was right he was wrong. The roof was too low. Before the roof went any further, we demanded it be raised up and built as specified on the drawing that we agreed to and signed. Mike refused and turned into a total jerk. He told us too bad and buy a new door. The guys didn't come the next day Pella came out to examine it and see what could be done and drew measurements and what needed to be done to be able to fit the door in. The guys were supposed to be here to meet with the installer, but they didn't come. On another note, we were having a gas line put in by a plumber and Frank and Larry had their auger to dig post holes, well they asked the plumber without my consent or knowledge to dig out the post holes with his digger instead of using their auger, like everyone else. The plumber ended up charging me for it. I have the invoice. Through texts Mike said he would frame out the bottom for skirting, never did, ignored my texts asking about it. Bullnose trim that was supposed to go on the edges never got put on. These guys left my yard and under the deck a mess. I have watched a few decks here be built since and those builders left their yards like he was never there. Under the decks are nice and neat, smoothed out and 1 guy even put landscapers mat down. Not here, they left it all piled up and huge rocks and dirt underneath. My neighbors post holes filled in nicely and level with ground. Not here all my post holes are sunken in/ caved in. The contract states they would do the cleanup, but he didn't. Mike came and gathered his reusable scraps but as for their millions of cigarette butts and drink bottles rocks and dirt. No, me and my son had to go out and shovel everything and clean it up. Now, the deck is done, and we start noticing stuff around the roof where it meets the house, all open and exposed. My husband and myself had requested several times to have a walk through with Mike so all of us could see punch list stuff to fix. He finally agreed but made excuse after excuse to blow us off. My husband continually texted to ask when he was coming. The corner post trim hacked to hell they should have replaced it. No pipe connected to gutter to direct water away from the foundation, the railing brackets, several looked forced, there's spaces, lopsided. There is a drink rail, and you can see between the railing and drink rail like it is coming off. The railing was cut to hell. Now he's refusing to fix anything or honor warranty until we pay him another $2600.

Honestly this place was a disaster. We asked them to come back to look at things and it took…read moreforever. The workers were slow and bitching. The deck is three years old and the roof is warping, the electric wires they placed were a disaster. They cut tons of boards short. I added some photos and got bunch more. Made me sick to pay what I paid for this. I am bringing this up now cause my buddy came over for the first time and told me this was a disaster. He is a private contractor

Do you not use this service. The owner Dan is not reputable and does not honor his word. I contacted him in June he was on vacation, I've left several messages for him with no response. I contacted him again on July 6 and he picked up , guess what he's on vacation again He ignored that he got my messages but had no intention on returning them or having someone else work call me. he's now decided he doesn't want to do that kind of business (fixing his workers craftsmanship) even though he has a lifetime guarantee on his product. The best part of the whole story is that when he originally installed my deck He didn't even install what I wanted when I came home I was shocked but it was done and there was nothing I could do about it and I paid him and I let it go Knowing that I had a lifetime guarantee warranty and that I didn't have to worry about it. What a joke. But I did not want real wood I wanted the artificial one and he didn't even install what I wanted Which is what I was quoted on. But, when I came home I was shocked. it was done and there was nothing I could do about it and I paid him. In all the years of being a homeowner (28)I have never run into a company that did not stand behind their product or who drag their customer along for months just to leave them hanging with nobody to fix it. He has left me in a position that I will not be able to use my deck and I will have to pay somebody to fix it. Don't put yourself through the hassle of having to take someone to the magistrate like I'm going to have to. Do not use him. Beware. Bonus note he did the same exact thing to my neighbor who had her deck put on by him. We both had our decks done within a month of each other, what does that tell you shotty work. Dan I hope you're not using this business as a legacy for your children because what you're doing is leaving A name that means nothing.
