I called the office, and the receptionist was really short with me and told me I'd have to get a referral and hung up. My insurance doesn't require referrals, but she wouldn't talk to me long enough to understand that. She offered zero help, not even an email or preferred fax number to receive the referral. So, my former audiologist sent a referral and my records over to the fax number they provide on their voice mail recording. Two weeks later, I call to set up an appointment, and the receptionist, who is a different person than the first one I spoke with, tells me they don't have any info for me after looking me up by birth date. I told them the referral and records were sent, and she says, "Well we don't have it. Tell them to resend." Click. Again, no additional research, no additional questions, no confirmation of fax number, nothing. The audiologists there may be good, but I'm certainly not going to pay to be treated like this every time I need to make an appointment. I found someone else in the area. I honestly don't know how this practice has any business at all with such a profound lack of patient care and service.

After the actual exam, I was then told I'd receive the report within 48 hours. I finally received the report 14 days after the exam and after I had placed 2 phone calls and one email requesting it. I felt like I was the recipient of a hard sell and when I didn't bite, I was made to feel uncomfortable. Perhaps I'm wrong, but the 2 week delay in the report feels vindictive.

I am fortunate my parents live nearby so I can make visits as needed, and they are always understanding and flexible in accommodating my schedule, even working with me remotely to program my digital hearing aids. I have a congenital bilateral severe-profound hearing loss, profound on the left, where I am eligible for a cochlear implant. Yet I have always done so well with hearing aids, thanks to their skill programming them to fit my needs, an implant is deemed unnecessary. This is a true testament to their skill. I was mainstreamed in public schools with assistive devices and went on to obtain a master's degree and now work as the staff biologist for a national program in the USDA. I cannot thank founder Marcia Dean and current audiologist Todd Sauter enough for their help along the way, I owe my success to their hard work. They quickly understood any issues I was experiencing, despite often lacking the language to describe it, and made adjustments and provided recommendations for the best hearing aids for my needs, patiently trial and erroring different companies when it is time to upgrade. For the first time in two years, I am able to get out of a chair without using my arms, put on my own socks, and take full steps going up and down stairs. It is like a miracle.
