Flat-out dangerous and shockingly unprofessional -- avoid this bike rental shop at all costs. We reserved two kids' bikes online, thinking it would make for a quick, easy pickup. Instead, it took over 50 minutes to get them. One incompetent employee was running the show alone, and when a second college aged worker finally showed up, he immediately started helping walk-ins who came long after us. All we needed was two kids' bikes fitted appropriately, two helmets, and a bike lock. Instead, we got a slow-motion circus. The lock was forgotten entirely, which made for an interesting lunch experience. A couple with no reservation showed up, got their bikes, and were on their way with in minutes. Then a group of 15 walked in and were helped immediately--while we were still standing there trying to get one hand brake adjusted by a guy clearly more interested in eating his brunch food than helping his customers. What happened next is what makes this shop not just frustrating, but outright dangerous. We pointed out that my son's bike was making a loud squealing noise before we even left, but they dismissed it as "fine." It absolutely wasn't. The bike emitted piercing, high-pitched screeching sounds for the entire seven hours (see video). Then.....my son's entire BACK WHEEL FELL OFF mid-ride. Let that sink in: the back wheel of a kids' bike came unhinged while riding downhill. We were extremely lucky it didn't result in a serious injury. That kind of failure is inexcusable and a clear sign of negligence with zero safety protocols. Thankfully, we know a little about bikes and could safely reattach the wheel since we were 10-15 miles away from the shop. This place is a liability nightmare and a customer service disaster. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. There are far better, safer, more competent bike rental shops all over town. This one should be avoided at all costs. read more

Rented a bike for a day trip here and the service couldn't have been better. They had a great selection at a great price! I'd highly recommend renting from this location as it's very convenient to the trail to Frisco. The bike I chose didn't have a water bottle holder which I hadn't noticed until we were ready to leave but they immediately took one from another bike and quickly installed it so we could get on our way! Had a not so great experience here renting equipment. A taller guy working rentals would not offer his opinion on what gear to rent. He even turned down an opportunity to sell some socks. Heck of a salesman. When the skis didn't work out, he blamed it on the gear that "you chose". Tons of other options to rent ski equipment, I would recommend Christys Sports a block away--much better service. **Edit: just went to return gear and the same guy (I think the owner) confronted our group for writing this review. Very aggressive approach and didn't want to fix the situation. On the way out he said "I am going to give you your money back and I don't want you to ever come back into my store." We just walked out without the refund. Seriously, run away from this place until the owner learns how to provide a basic level of customer service. read more

Best bike shops in Summit County. Great selection of the gear you need to keep you on the trail and on the slopes paired with local ownership and real knowledge of the trails and mountains. Pricing is good too! The South Avalanche Sports store has a better selection but otherwise the North store is great. read more

Starting a ski week at Breck. I have 2 problems--1 I forgot my thermal undies, and 2 a screw has gone missing in my ski boot. After several stops in other stores that solved neither problem, arrived at Avalanches North location, where they had a good selection of long underwear in my size and fixed my ski boot. I don't even think the dude charged me for the repair. So an all round great experience. Check them out, you won't be sorry. read more

While on vacation in Breckenridge recently , I decided to do some mountain biking . I wanted an aluminum mountain bike to keep the cost down but they were all out . But they gave me a good discount on the carbon bike. They did a great job setting it up for me . They took the time to show me some trails that might fit my ability and printed out a couple maps for me to take . I was very happy with their service and attention . Highly recommended! read more

This business is located in small building with a highly rated pizza bar. I arrived on a busy night and parked in 1 of 2 adjacent spots in the parking lot. As I maneuvered my Suburban in the tight parking lot, I noticed I was being stared down by a gentleman who appeared to be getting in his vehicle and departing. It was awkward as he was with a lady (wife?) and maybe a teenager. As I exited my vehicle, he asked me in a very annoyed voice if I was visiting the ski shop (Avalanche). I said no, I was here to get pizza. He said something to the effect of 'did you read the sign, the parking is for OUR ski shop'. I had read the sign and the legible font said "customers only'. We went back and forth a bit and I was educated the parking lot was segregated and some spots were for the bar and some for the ski shop. Since I was here for pizza, he insisted I needed to move my vehicle as the open spot and the one I was in were for the ski shop. I said no more and moved my vehicle out to the street. I found this incident infuriating as maybe he found me. I can't believe anybody in the tourist business would treat folks this way. At no point in the conversation did he introduce himself. I have subsequently identified him on the Avalanche Sports website as possibly an owner. Parking must be an issue for him or maybe he doesn't get along with his neighbor Downstairs at Eric's. Would seem there are many other ways to address the issue and could have possibly turned me into a customer as the next day I did pick up 8 sets of ski's, which I can assure you I did elsewhere. I hope this man finds peace with parking as certainly he is not in Breckenridge running a tourist business to live a cranky, unpersonable life. read more

In the summer they have high end demo bikes like Yeti, and Santa Cruz Mountain Bikes. The staff is always helpful, and can fix any bike you bring into them.
